How Do Organizational Commitment and Workload Influence Cyberloafing Behavior

Cyberloafing, or employees engaging in non-work-related internet activities, has become a prevalent issue for many companies. Finding out how organizational commitment and workload affect cyberloafing behavior in nurses at the Lampung Province Regional Mental Hospital (RSJD) is the goal of this study. The basic data for this study came from a Likert scale questionnaire. There were 115 nurses in the research sample, and SPSS 29 software was utilized for the multiple linear regression analysis of the data. The study's findings provided evidence in favor of the premise that organizational commitment and workload significantly and negatively influence cyberloafing behavior. The recommendation for the Lampung Province Mental Hospital is to help create an atmosphere where nurses can feel content and at ease at work, as well as to inculcate positive values in them. The Lampung Provincial Mental Hospital ought to establish guidelines for the equitable distribution of nursing responsibilities. To lower the amount of cyberloafing among nurses, the Lampung Provincial Mental Hospital must also implement specific internet usage guidelines.

Online mindfulness-based stress reduction improves anxiety and depression status and quality of life in caregivers of patients with severe mental disorders.

To explore the effects of online mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) on the anxiety and depression status, and quality of life in the caregivers of patients with severe mental disorders. Ninety-three caregivers for patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, who were hospitalized in Yunnan Provincial Mental Hospital in March 2021, were enrolled and randomly divided into control group (n=47) and MBSR intervention group (n=46). Both groups received basic health education and rehabilitation skill training, while the intervention group received additional online MBSR for 8 weeks. The anxiety and depression status, and the quality of life of the caregivers were evaluated by Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) before and 8 weeks after intervention, respectively. Thirteen caregivers dropped out of the study, and 80 subjects (40 in each group) were included in the final analysis. At the baseline, there were no significant differences in SAS, SDS and SF-36 scores between two groups (all P>0.05). Compared with the baseline, SAS and SDS scores in the intervention group significantly decreased after 8 weeks of intervention (both P<0.01) and were significantly lower than those in the control group (both P<0.01). There were no significant changes in the control group (all P>0.05). Except the physiological function dimension, the total score and the scores of each dimension of SF-36 in the intervention group were significantly increased after 8-week intervention (all P<0.05), and were significantly higher than those in the control group (all P<0.01). There were no significant changes in the control group before and after intervention (all P>0.05). Online MBSR can reduce the anxiety and depression levels, improve the quality of life in the caregivers of patients with severe mental disorders.

A Position Analysis of BPJS Claims Administration Officers and Verifiers (Case Study: Jambi Province Regional Mental Hospital)

The high coverage rate of handling partially rejected claim financing reaching 7.34% of the total 19,476 cases in the Outpatient Unit of the Jambi Provincial Mental Hospital (RSJD) in 2022, is closely related to the quality of human resources (HR) in this case, the claims officer and the suitability of what is done with the job description, job specifications and standard operating procedures (SOP) that have been made. This study aimed to analyze the position of administrative officers and claim verifiers in the outpatient unit of the Jambi Provincial Mental Hospital. This research used a qualitative method. Information was collected through in-depth interviews with eight informants, observation, and document review. Test validity by triangulating sources, techniques, and data. The results showed that officers already knew the claims administration and verification procedures. The claim administration SOP in this case, the RJTL claim submission SOP and the monthly reporting SOP have not been outlined in a decision letter for the coding SOP. However, it has been outlined in a decision letter but has not been adequately socialized to the officers concerned. The SOP for claim verification has not been outlined in a decision letter and still refers to the technical guidelines for claim verification issued by BPJS Health. It is still found that the delegation of tasks and the number of verification officers not following the calculation of workload and standards set are obstacles in implementing administration and verification of claims in the Jambi Province RSJD outpatient department.

Evaluating food sanitation, hygiene, and quality in the nutrition installation of an Indonesian mental hospital: A qualitative study

Background: Food sanitation and hygiene is an effort to control factors such as the environment, equipment, personnel, and food items that may cause health problems, diseases, or food poisoning. Hospitals are healthcare institutions that provide comprehensive individual healthcare. One crucial aspect of healthcare services in hospitals is nutrition installation, which plays a vital role in the patients' recovery process. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the food sanitation, hygiene, and quality at the Nutrition Installation of the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Mental Hospital in 2022. Methods: This study employed qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The information was sourced from two key informants and four ordinary informants. Data collection methods included in-depth interviews to explore the topic thoroughly, careful and direct observations, documentation through photographs of relevant phenomena, symbols, and signs, as well as recording dialogues during the research process. Triangulation techniques, including source, method, and research time, were used to ensure data and information validity. Data analysis involved classification, sorting, and presentation. Results: The findings indicated that the food storage and processing practices complied with the requirements outlined in Decree of Indonesia Minister of Health (Permenkes) No. 1096 of 2011. However, the selection of foodstuffs, food presentation, food transportation, and personal hygiene of food handlers do not meet the standards. Furthermore, based on the assessment of the physical feasibility of food sanitation hygiene at the nutrition Installation of the hospitals, a score of 80 was obtained, which falls below the minimum requirement specified in the requirement. Conclusion: The study revealed a significant non-compliance with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by food handlers during food processing and serving. Furthermore, health checks were not conducted, and the Nutrition Installation of the selected hospitals lacked a certificate of sanitary hygiene eligibility.

Hubungan Burnout dengan Mekanisme Koping pada Perawat Pelaksana di Ruang Rawat Inap Rumah Sakit Jiwa Daerah Provinsi Jambi

Nurses who work in hospitals are at high risk of experiencing burnout. A person who experiences burnout will lose the meaning of his job because of a prolonged response to emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion experienced. Burnout is physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion due to being in an emotionally demanding situation. Factors that cause nurses to experience burnout are patient demands, possible dangers in providing nursing care, heavy workloads or pressure when they have to provide a lot of care for many patients during work shifts. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between burnout and coping mechanisms for nurses in the inpatient ward of the Jambi Provincial Mental Hospital. This research is a quantitative research using cross sectional method. The sampling technique used is total sampling with a sample of 86 people, the research instrument using a questionnaire was analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test. The results showed that 55.8% of nurses experienced burnout and 60.5% of nurses had adaptive coping mechanisms. The results of the chi-square statistical test obtained p-value = 0.000. Which means that there is a significant relationship between burnout and coping mechanisms for nurses in the inpatient room of the Jambi Provincial Mental Hospital. It is hoped that they can apply more persuasive management by conducting communication forums to discuss problems at work and provide guidance in order to improve the performance of nurses.

Evaluasi Kinerja Program Rehabilitasi Mental terhadap Orang Dengan Gangguan Jiwa

Currently, it is estimated that there are 450 million peoples uffering from mental disorders (WHO,2016). The recurrence rate at the Jambi Provincial Mental Hospital, which is the only mental hospital in Jambi Province is 89.2%. The purpose of this research his to find out how mental rehabilitation is given at this hospital. This study use the evaluation framework of the CDC. Step 1, the stakeholders consulted were the head of the field, the head of the section, the head of the room. Step-2 there is no special model/design in report generation. Reports are based on daily visits and become monthly reports. Step-3, the report in this installation doesn’t use any special evaluation model in the development program and currently in the process of facilities and infrastructure that are still lackingare psychologists in installation and religious therapists for non-Muslims. For step-4 data collectionare from daily record, whether the patient can or cannot or less in participating in the therapy activities, there is no special team in program evaluation. Step-5, to understand the findings, the stakeholders didn’t find any problems, drawn based on the monthly results. Step-6 every stakeholders can see the report result. Mental rehabilitation activities have been going well, in the evaluation of the program evaluation, need a model that can support the program description so that it can help the program development stage. The hospital also needs to cooperate with institutions/organizations tohelp patients that just discharged from the hospital toreceive direction and prevent recurrence patients

The Effects of Online Health Promotion to New Habit Adaptation

Health workers have a high risk of being exposed to COVID-19. The lack of knowledge of health workers, especially nurses, can lead to increased stress during the pandemic. Therefore, there is a need for preventive and promotive efforts in the form of new habit adaptation. Online health promotion can be used to improve public health optimally. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health promotion on new health adaptation which was conducted online. The research design used pre-experimental with one group pre-post test design. Nurses at the Bali Provincial Mental Hospital who have attended the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (DKJPS) training on adapting new habits online for 3 days were given a pretest on the first day of implementation of new habit adaptation and a post test on the 56th day. The samples used were 82 nurses and 146 nuclear family nurses who were selected using purposive sampling that met the inclusion criteria, that is nurses from the Bali Province Mental Hospital and their nuclear families aged 15 years. Data collection was carried out from August 25, 2021 to October 26, 2021 using the New Habit Adaptation questionnaire in reference to the DKJPS manual book. The analysis used the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test. The results of the analysis showed that the p value value 0.05 showed that there was an effect of online health promotion on the new habit adaptation. The results of this study prove that online health promotion affects the implementation of new habit adaptation in an effort to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Description of Socialization Ability in Isolation Patients

This study aims to describe the socialization ability of social isolation patients at the Mental Hospital of West Java Province. The research method used is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The study results based on the Shapiro-Wilk test between socialization skills obtained a p-value of 0.709 which means it is more significant than 0.05, so it can open up opportunities for socialization to isolated patients in West Java. The Provincial Mental Hospital is good. Indonesia According to WHO (2017) data, there are about 35 million people affected by depression, 60 million people are affected by bipolar, 21 million are affected by schizophrenia, and 47.5 million are affected by dementia. The nursing problems that arise from the medical diagnosis of schizophrenia include hallucinations. Based on data from Mental Hospitals in Indonesia, about 70% of patients undergoing treatment in inpatient wards of mental hospitals experience hallucinations nursing problems. Data from the inpatient room of the Jambi Provincial Mental Hospital in 2018 from 12 rooms the number of patients experiencing hallucinations was 4320 patients. The management of hallucinations is through the continuous application of comprehensive nursing care, accompanied by incorrect modality therapies. one of them is Group Activity Therapy. Objective: To determine the effect of Sensory Stimulation Group Activity Therapy (TAK) on changes in the level of hallucinations in hallucinating patients in the inpatient ward of the Jambi Province Mental Hospital. Gambaran Pengolahan Air Limbah Rumah Sakit Jiwa Daerah Provinsi Lampung Tahun 2020

The hospital is one of the efforts to improve health consisting of medical centers and doctors' offices which are also supported by other units, such as operating rooms, laboratories, pharmacy, administration, kitchen, laundry, waste and waste treatment, as well as organizing education and training . The purpose of this study was to determine the description of wastewater treatment in Lampung Province Mental Hospital in 2020. The type of this research was a descriptive study using qualitative methods, with the object of research being the entire wastewater treatment system of Lampung Province Mental Hospital in 2020. Data collection obtained through observations and observations of the condition of the drainage of wastewater treatment, and interviews with related sections, namely the sanitation department and WWTP officers of Lampung Province Mental Hospital about the wastewater treatment process. From the results of the research that has been done, it can be seen in the treatment of wastewater in the Lampung Provincial Mental Hospital that has not gone well. In the treatment of wastewater treatment plants WWTP off, the wastewater from laundry is not flowed to WWTP, the inspection of wastewater quality is not in accordance with established regulations.

Vitamin D Serum Level in Patients with Schizophrenia in West Java, Indonesia

Background: Vitamin D is an immune-regulator that influences the neuro-inflammation process in schizophrenia. The study aimed to explore the vitamin D serum level in schizophrenic patients at the outpatient clinic of the Provincial Mental Hospital, West Java, Indonesia. Methods: A quantitative descriptive study was conducted in November-December 2019 using secondary data of all-male schizophrenic patients at the Provincial Mental Hospital. Data collected were demographic characteristics, clinical characteristics, and vitamin D Level. Scoring was then performed using Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to assess the positive and negative symptoms as well as the cognitive symptoms based on the serum vitamin D levels. Result: All male schizophrenic patients had a low serum vitamin D level (mean16.67±5.6ng/ml) with 64.52% of them had vitamin D deficiency (&lt;20 ng/ml). Interestingly, patients with vitamin D deficiency had a negative symptom (mean22.1±5.6ng/ml) whereas those with vitamin D insufficiency (20-29 ng/ml) had a positive symptom (mean 18.55±5.6ng/ml). Furthermore, patients with vitamin D deficiency had a lower impaired cognitive function value (mean 19.7±3.4ng/ml) compared to those with vitamin D insufficiency. Conclusions: A low vitamin D serum level in schizophrenic patients may play a role in the pathogenesis of this disorder. Further studies are needed to confirm this finding.

Gambaran sindrom metabolik pada pasien gangguan jiwa yang dirawat di rumah sakit jiwa provinsi Bali

Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a constellation of various disorders that can increase the risk of heart disease. MS is known to increase morbidity and mortality rates in psychiatric patients. However, MS in the population of mental disorders, especially in Bali, is still not well known.Methods: A cross-sectional analytic descriptive study was conducted in psychiatric patients treated at Bali Provincial Mental Hospital from January 2018 to February 2018. Inclusion criteria included inpatients who diagnosed with mental disorders based on DSM-IV criteria and those who had MS based on the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel (NCE ATP III) criteria.Results: A total of 245 samples were included in this study with the prevalence of MS was 48.6%. According on sex, female had higher proportion among MS patients than male (42.8% vs 60.7%). In addition, the age group &gt; 65 years had the highest frequency (75%) suffered from MS followed by age group of 45-65 years (54,9%). Based on the class of antipsychotic administered, MS patients with typical antipsychotic drug classes had the highest frequency, followed by the atypical group and combination of atypical and typical (49.4%, 49.3%, and 46.2%, respectively). Among MS patients, most of them had obesity (87.3%), followed by dyslipidemia, hypertension and impaired fasting glucose (76.4%, 65.5%, and 60.4%, respectively).Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome among patients with mental disorder admitted to the Mental Hospital of Bali Province. Comprehensive multidisciplinary co-operation is required in the treating those with metabolic syndrome as comorbid.

Rapid eye movement sleep study on different episode types of depression and post-stroke depression

Objective To explore the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep characteristics of different episode types of depression and post-stroke depression (PSD) patients and provide support for clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Methods Patients with single-episode depression (group A, n=22), patients with recurrent depression (≥2 episodes, group B, n=26) and patients with PSD (group C, n=19) were included from Henan Provincial Mental Hospital. 20 healthy volunteers were assigned to control group.Participants in the 4 groups were performed polysomnographic recordings (PSG) from 9 PM to 6 AM before treatment.The 3 patients groups were performed the second PSG recordings and HAMD score at the end of 6 week SSRIs treatment. The REM indexes of 4 groups were compared and analyzed. Results First PSG detection showed that REM sleep latencies (RL) were shorter in group A and B (A: (65.57±18.29) min, B: (66.32±15.46) min) than that in group C ( (79.17±20.18) min ) and control group( (87.24±16.55) min); REM activity (RA) (A: (99.82±25.71) u, B: (104.70±28.23) u)and REM density (RD) (A: (81.06±19.35)%, B: (86.61±23.83)%) were increased more significantly in group A and B than those in control group ((79.61±18.40) u; (68.11±17.54)%); REM sleep time (RT) were decreased more significantly in group C ((51.66±22.26) min) than that in group A((71.43±20.70) min), group B((74.81±17.52) min) and control group ((70.46±16.35) min)(P 0.05). There was no significant difference in the indexes of REM in group C; RT was prolonged ((51.66±22.26) min vs(68.37±20.16) min)in group C, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Most of depression patients with different episode types have REM disinhibition phenomenon. RD increase may be REM characteristic type of depression patient. Sleep disorders of PSD patients are mainly poor sleep process and sleep continuity and have no characteristics of REM sleep disorder of depression ones. Dressing and Addressing the Mental Patient: The Uses of Clothing in the Admission, Care and Employment of Residents in English Provincial Mental Hospitals, c. 1860–1960

Scholars of insanity and its historical antecedents have paid very little attention to personal and institutional clothing. Such dress, distributed to patients in mental institutions, has always been inscribed with the conflicting narratives of the period in which it was made and worn. The language of civil and medical authority is more evident than personal choice in the shape and address of the attire. This article examines clothing worn by patients in three Devon mental hospitals during the century before 1960. We consider the ways in which institutional clothing formed part of a hospital regimen of overt control, as well as suiting considerations of economy and employment that figured in these institutions.

The expression of depression among Javanese patients with major depressive disorder: A concept mapping study

In this study, we explored the presentation of clinical depression in Java, Indonesia. Interviews were conducted with 20 Javanese patients (male and female) with major depressive disorder from both lower and higher socioeconomic levels. The recruited participants came from provincial and private mental health hospitals in the cities of Solo, Yogykarta (Jogja), Jakarta, and Malang on the island of Java, Indonesia. Concept mapping methodology using multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis was used to identify underlying themes in the expression of depressive phenomena in this Indonesian population. The results identified themes that grouped into six clusters: interpersonal relationships, hopelessness, physical/somatic, poverty of thought, discourage, and defeat. Findings give support to the view that culture influences the expression of Indonesian depressive phenomenology, which nevertheless has some common roots with Western clinical pictures of the disorder. Cultural influences may mask symptoms of the disorder to clinicians. Diagnostic and assessment tools must be carefully selected to ensure they address culturally specific expressions of depression.

Visiting the Mentally Ill: Volunteer Visitors at Saskatchewan Hospital, Weyburn 1950-1965

This article offers a glimpse into the lives and activities of some of the patients, volunteers and staff in the Saskatchewan mental health system during the period of deinstitutionalization. Drawing on her own experience as a patient in psychiatric wards as well as ongoing research in the history of mental health, it features the role of Regina Volunteer Visitors in Saskatchewan Hospital, Weyburn and examines the importance of occupational and recreational therapies and activities in improving the lives of the patients in that institution. It emphasizes the perspectives of patients and volunteers who actively worked to develop recreational activities, with the intention of helping individuals connect with the surrounding communities. The views and perspectives presented here are drawn from a variety of historical and oral interview sources, including views from visitors to the asylum and patients who lived within its walls. The author has also been a consumer of mental health services, and spent time in the Provincial Mental Hospital in North Battleford. The article therefore makes an important contribution to enhancing our understanding of the social history of deinstitutionalization, not only for its unique source base, but also because those sources have been examined and explained to readers through the perspectives of a former patient herself. This article draws significant attention to the changing opportunities for patients as they interacted with the women's volunteer groups, as well as to how the changes brought about by the encroaching deinstitutionalization, care in the community, and decisions from "above" affected the individuals on the ground.

Outcomes and future directions of the national community mental health care program in Viet Nam

The mental health system in Viet Nam (population >85 million) has services provided at the central, provincial, district and community levels. There are 31 central and provincial mental hospitals, 27 psychiatric departments in general hospitals, 60 outpatient mental health facilities and 17 social care centres. Its workforce comprises about 950 mental health doctors, 2700 nurses and 800 other staff. Each of Viet Nam's 10,750 communes has a primary health centre (PHC), and there are over 47,000 primary health staff. Delivering mental health care via the primary care system is endorsed as a suitable option for many developing countries 1,2,3. A national community mental health care (CMHC) program was launched in Viet Nam in 2001 to build up community mental health service by integrating mental health care into PHCs. The components provided were illness identification, basic treatment, relapse prevention, and reduction of risk and disability. Activities included training of PHC staff, screening at the community level, monthly review and medication provision, rehabilitation in activities of daily living, community education and regular interactions between the PHCs and the provincial and central hospitals. In 2009, the National Psychiatric Hospital No. 1 in Hanoi implemented a World Health Organization (WHO)-funded review of the CMHC program. The review consisted of a national workshop of 40 provincial hospitals leaders, site visits of several CMHC services and selective data from the national monitoring system and various community mental health stakeholders 4. After being initiated in all 64 provinces in Viet Nam, the program has driven the development of country-wide community mental health network and services 5. It has achieved a national coverage of 64%, reaching about 145,160 patients. The strengths identified include: better access to treatment for community patients especially from remote areas, thus reducing treatment gap; greater opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration into community; and increased public awareness of mental illness. The main limitations concern human resource and facilities, scope of treatment, scale of service coverage and linkages with families and community. A framework for the revised model of community mental health care in Viet Nam was collaboratively developed by service providers and consultants, in line with best-practice recommendations in the region 6. This includes: broadening the scope of mental health care to include mental health promotion, prevention, and intervention at the primary care level; strengthening the partnership with community supports to deliver mental health services together with PHCs; and developing specialist mental health teams to initiate and support the service implementation in order to build local expertise and long-term sustainability. The revised CMHC program will strive for an integrated mental health service in the primary health system which is supported by strong community partnerships and reliable governance. Building the capacity of PHC staff to meet these aims requires significant initial investment but is likely to be a cost-effective and viable strategy in the long term.

Prairies, psychedelics and place: The dynamics of region in psychiatric research

In 1957, the word ‘psychedelic’ entered the English lexicon from a rather unexpected location: an asylum superintendent working on the Canadian prairies in one of the provincial mental hospitals in Saskatchewan. During the 1950s Saskatchewan-based researchers engaged in political and psychiatric reforms that brought international attention to their work in a relatively isolated geographic location. This article considers the influence of location on the development of a medical theory that challenged prevailing ideas about the causation and treatment of mental illness and addiction. Drawing on perspectives from historians, political scientists, sociologists and geographers, this case study explores the historical meanings of region and place and combines older historiographical traditions, which define region in political terms, with concepts borrowed from other disciplines, which offer a more nuanced view of cultural geography, to examine the development of psychedelic research in the post-World War II period.

Distancing the mad: Jarvis's Law and the spatial distribution of admissions to the Hamilton Lunatic Asylum in Canada, 1876–1902

The institutional confinement of the ‘insane’ in the nineteenth century constitutes one of the most controversial events in the social history of medicine. Within this scholarship there has emerged an important debate over the spatial determinants of institutionalization. Some studies uphold an historical postulate—Jarvis's Law—that contends there was a ‘distance decay’ effect in mental hospital utilization—that is, an inverse correlation between the distance from a medical institution and the likelihood of people to use its resources. Other scholars have challenged or modified this thesis, arguing that factors such as the local politics, urban living, or socio-economic status were more important determinants of institutional confinement. This article contributes to this ongoing debate by analysing over 4000 admissions to the Ontario Provincial Asylum in the city of Hamilton, Canada, between 1876 and 1902. The results confirm Jarvis’ Law was applicable to the Hamilton context: there was an inverse statistical relationship between physical distance from the asylum and the likelihood of admission. However, this paper yields three additional dimensions to the literature: (1) it demonstrates that jails were much more likely to be utilized as temporary places of confinement for communities far from provincial mental hospitals; (2) the length of stay in the asylum was positively correlated with the distance travelled to the institution; and (3) an inverse relationship was found when correlating distance from the asylum and the likelihood of being readmitted to the same institution. These findings suggest an impact of ‘distance’ beyond the dimension of hospital utilization and imply that the broader asylum experience could be affected by the previous location of patients.

The incidence of schizophrenia in European immigrants to Canada

Objective The risk for schizophrenia in immigrants to Europe is approximately three times that of native-born populations. Discrimination and marginalization may influence the risk for schizophrenia within migrant populations. The primary objective of the present study was to determine whether the risk associated with migration was also evident 100 years ago. A second objective was to determine whether changing social stresses are associated with changes to the incidence of schizophrenia. Method During the first two decades of the twentieth century, the Provincial Mental Hospital was the sole provider of psychiatric services in British Columbia, Canada. Detailed clinical records have been preserved for 99.5% of 2477 patients who had a psychiatric admission between 1902 and 1913. Diagnoses were made after a detailed file review and 807 patients met DSM-IV criteria for first-episode schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, schizoaffective disorder, or psychosis not otherwise specified. Diagnoses had high inter-rater reliability. The incidence of schizophrenia in migrants from Britain or Continental Europe was compared with that in the Canadian-born population using indirect standardization and Poisson models. Results Migration from Britain or Continental Europe to Canada in the early twentieth century was associated with an increased rate of schizophrenia; IRR = 1.54, (95% CI = 1.33–1.78). Incidence increased over time in immigrants but not in the native-born population and this increase occurred during a period of economic recession. Conclusions Migration was a risk factor for schizophrenia a century ago as it is today. This risk occurred in white migrants from Europe and increased during a period of increased social stress.
