The reaction of 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene (TPB) with chromium hexacarbonyl in boiling dibutyl ether leads to the following compounds: TPB·Cr(CO) 3, TPB·2Cr(CO) 3 and TPB·3Cr(CO) 3. The proton resonance spectra prove the bonding of the Cr(CO) 3 group to the central benzene ring in TPB·Cr(CO) 3, contrary to the other two compounds whose Cr(CO) 3 groups are π-bonded to the phenyl rings.
