MSU — my love!

The article is a generalized analysis of students’ opinions about Moscow University, which they expressed within the study “Moscow State University through the Eyes of Students at the Faculty of Sociology” conducted at the Faculty of Sociology. This study was dedicated to the 270th anniversary of Moscow University. The purpose of the study was to create a holistic view of students’ attitudes to Moscow University, its mission in the development of Russia and Russian science, as well as their own life trajectories, based on the analysis of students’ opinions on the criteria for choosing a university, on various aspects of the educational process and employment prospects. The responses analyzed in the article are a vivid demonstration of the fact that Moscow University has played and continues to play a special role in the lives of students. It is the students who are the main characters of this article. Young people expressed their opinions on why they chose Moscow State University, what factors influenced their choice, how their education is conducted, and how their alma mater influences their life strategies. Instead of a conclusion, the article includes two extraordinary essays that describe the students’ path to admission, their impressions of their studies, as well as their expectations, aspirations, and hopes.

Youth Employment Challenges and Opportunities in Pakistan: An Econometric Analysis

The involvement of young people in Pakistan's job market is the subject of this dissertation. This work highlights two main benefits of the research conducted using micro data. First, it breaks out the labor market behaviors of teenagers in Pakistan by age group. Then, using econometric approaches, it explains what variables influence youth work chances in Pakistan. According to the research, several young people start working at a young age, which may affect their future productivity and income. At the beginning of their professions, young people frequently have a higher unemployment rate; nevertheless, this number decreases with time. In addition, there were notable disparities in the labor market outcomes for male and female teenagers based on area. Unemployment rates for young women are higher than those for young men in several regions of the nation. Although young people in Baluchistan are more prepared to enter labor than their counterparts in other regions, the study's main conclusion shows that their employment prospects are poorer. Several characteristics, the findings of a logistic regression analysis demonstrate that the job chances of youth in Pakistan are highly impacted by age, gender, marital status, emigration, geography, educational achievement, and family characteristics. In addition, studies show that Pakistani teenagers are a heterogeneous group, reflecting a wide variety of personal traits and perspectives on employment that are influenced by their home context. Policymakers should see Pakistani youth as something other than a monolithic entity. Unemployment is a problem in Pakistan due to several factors.

Reciprocal Teaching in tech with struggling university readers

Reading comprehension is a skill that is crucial in everyday life, as it allows people to read critically and understand the various texts they encounter. Reading comprehension is not a skill that is actively taught or improved upon in most Western countries, despite its relative importance to everyday life. As a result, university readers struggle with comprehension skills, which can impact their employment prospects. The present study explores the initial implementation of a potential solution to this issue. This study will focus on Phase 1 of a larger project and will implement a qualitative methodology of reflexive journaling to reflect on the initial curriculum design, pedagogical practice, and technological challenges and evaluate the construction and implementation of an online learning platform designed to assist students in improving reading comprehension.

Research on the relationship between college students’ English learning anxiety and biomechanical factors

English learning has become essential for higher education for students throughout the world, particularly in non-English-speaking nations where fluency in the language is frequently linked to success in the classroom, employment prospects, and international communication. Learning English is an emotional as well as a cognitive endeavor for many students. Anxiety related to language acquisition, including exam anxiety, fear of rejection, and fear of communication, is a common issue that can significantly impact how well students achieve. The goal of this research is to examine the connection among biomechanical characteristics and the anxiety that college students have while learning English. Participating in this study were 326 college students in total. Participants will also complete a structured questionnaire survey on biomechanical factors, as well as supposed muscle tension, posture habits, and physical discomfort throughout English learning sessions. The Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) is a validated instrument that will be used to measure English learning anxiety levels. The data was analyzed by statistical methods, including Regression analysis and Pearson correlation were utilized to ascertain the association between the English learning anxiety score and biomechanical factors. To evaluate students’ anxiety and biomechanical reactions, an ANOVA will be used. The data was analyzed using SPSS v20 software. The result established the relationship between English learning anxiety and biomechanical factors is necessary for creating more supportive learning environments. Research demonstrates that the relationship between bodily reactions and anxiety, needs to address the mental and physical components of stress, and the significance of developing more effective methods of lowering anxiety, boosting student well-being, and raising academic achievement in English learning. This research suggests the relationship between college students’ English learning anxiety and biomechanical characteristics, adding to a more complete understanding of how physical and psychological aspects impact English language learning outcomes.

Teaching the Humanities for the Future Public

Abstract This manifesto is a case study of a new method of configuring Humanities wisdom. Following the 2008 financial crisis, students and parents questioned the value of Humanities disciplines in relation to debt and future employment prospects. The experiment described here is an attempt at Arizona State University to reinvigorate humanistic pedagogy by means of an entirely new transdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts degree that abandons the disciplinary nomenclature that goes back to Aristotle and was instantiated, then ossified, in the twentieth-century university. The problem, it is argued, is not in the content, but in the naming: History, Literature, Philosophy, Language, and Religion. The experiment is to begin not with these discrete and seemingly moribund bodies of knowledge, but with the most pressing concerns of present and future publics. We name these, and so we name the new degree, Culture–Technology–Environment. The manifesto describes the design and content of the degree and raises the hope that curricular innovations of this kind will create Humanities-wise citizens for the future.

Implications of the Differences between Chinese and American k12 Education Models for China

The differences between Chinese and American K-12 education systems have garnered significant attention, yet challenges persist in integrating their strengths. This paper analyzes the structures, methodologies, and impacts of the Chinese and American education systems, focusing on student interest cultivation, development, and future employment prospects. The analysis reveals that the Chinese system excels in academic rigor and discipline, but often at the expense of creativity and student well-being. Conversely, the American system fosters creativity and critical thinking, yet struggles with maintaining academic rigor and consistency across regions. Based on these findings, this paper suggests that China should incorporate more flexible, holistic educational approaches that encourage creativity and personal growth. At the same time, the United States could benefit from adopting elements of China’s emphasis on academic discipline and mastery of core subjects, particularly in STEM fields. Both countries should also enhance global perspectives and technology integration to better prepare students for the demands of the 21st century.

Understanding the Importance of Email Etiquette and Addressing Email Communication Challenges Among BTVI Students

Email serves as a communication channel for students in higher educational institutions to interact with teachers on course materials, assignments, and impending tests and seek guidance on personal or academic concerns. The present research examines student-instructor email communication, explicitly identifying the problematic elements in students' emails that hinder effective communication. The study examines a sample of 50 email communications composed and sent by first-year students to their instructors at Bright Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) in Kurdistan. Textual analysis is a valuable method for investigating research inquiries across several disciplines. The study findings demonstrated that informal aspects of student email exchanges include the usage of slang, overuse of capitalization, unconventional spelling, symbols, and emoticons. Lack of adherence to email etiquette norms and grammatical errors. These elements indicate a need for more understanding of formality, professionalism, and the decorum expected in a university atmosphere. Thus, it is advisable to implement pedagogical intervention to develop the necessary abilities for composing and comprehending emails. Providing education and assistance on the protocols and norms of email communication may enhance students' capacity to effectively and professionally interact via email in (BTVI), hence fostering good practices and increasing future employment prospects.

Assessing Mukah Community's Readiness Participation in the Ecotourism Industry

Ecotourism is a distinct category within the broader tourism sector. Ecotourism is an excellent option for enhancing local socioeconomic circumstances and generating economic activity that positively impacts the national economy. The involvement of local communities, specifically rural youth communities, in ecotourism activities can offer employment prospects such as serving as nature guides, engaging in business ventures within the ecotourism industry, benefiting from the activities and products of ecotourism, and fostering social connections and local income growth. However, an essential determinant of the effectiveness of tourist development programs is the level of readiness within the community to engage in these ecotourism activities. The objective of this essay is to evaluate the preparedness of the local community in Mukah for the implementation of ecotourism activities. The study was carried out as part of the community program. A total of 62 respondents originated from the surrounding communities of Mukah, Sarawak. The findings indicated that most participants had neither attended nor received any kind of training in nature guiding. Although most respondents initially did not engage in ecotourism activities, a significant number of them showed a newfound interest in becoming nature guides and stated a readiness to pursue relevant courses in the future after enrolling in the program. It indicates that a significant proportion of young people participating in this program had the necessary readiness to engage in local ecotourism initiatives.

Research on the impact of WTO trade policy review mechanism (TPRM) on the employability of Chinese college students during the economic structural transformation of its member countries

The WTO TPRM is a very important machinery where the WTO members submit for evaluation their trade policies and structures as well as their economic reforms. This research used secondary evidence from employment reports, government statistics and various industry research and employed expert policy and economic opinion. It analyses employment rates prior to and after the implementation of the “mass entrepreneurship and mass innovation” policy and the policy of integrated enterprise-school and university-enterprise. In total, the general sample consists of 500 students half of whom are male and the other half are female. The employment rates stands at an average of 78% among the students. In terms of the standard deviation, the figure is equal to 9.3% which he described as moderate variability of employment outcomes. . Similarly the analysis reveals a positive relationship between GPA, entrepreneurial intention and participation in vocational programs on employability ( p < 0. 001). The coefficient for entrepreneurial intention is especially significant (β = 0. 38), which means that students, who had entrepreneurial intentions, are more likely to be employed. Employment prospects for college students were found to be especially enhanced through adoption of the above policies showing a very strong implication of education and training to economic needs especially during structural change. This study has implication for policy formation and course offering for higher institutions of learning to enhance the employment status of graduates in the current world economy.

The integration of AI-driven technologies brings about automation of tedious tasks, enhances decision-making capabilities, and boosts overall productivity. Nonetheless, the adoption of AI carries profound implications for both the labor market and skill prerequisites. On one hand, the advent of AI is poised to usher in new job opportunities, particularly in domains such as machine learning, data science, and AI engineering. Conversely, AI's implementation is expected to automate numerous routine and manual job functions, resulting in the displacement of workers in sectors like manufacturing, transportation, and customer service. This transition underscores the necessity for workers to cultivate fresh skill sets and competencies. Skills such as data analysis, critical thinking, and advanced problem-solving will ascend in importance, whereas conventional proficiencies like manual dexterity and routine problem-solving will diminish in relevance. Furthermore, the effects of AI on employment prospects and skill requisites will vary across different industries and geographical regions. While certain sectors may undergo substantial job displacement, others may witness a surge in demand for adept personnel. Thus, policymakers and industry leaders must adopt a proactive stance toward reskilling and upskilling initiatives to ensure workforce competitiveness. Ultimately, the integration of AI tools is poised to catalyze transformative shifts in the labor market and skill landscape. While it presents novel opportunities and enhances productivity, it simultaneously necessitates adaptive measures from workers to thrive in an evolving job market.

Digital Tools in the Thesis Process: A Case Study from Sweden

The emergence of autonomous learning has revolutionized educational systems, offering new pathways to enhance higher education. Across most Swedish universities, Bachelor's and Master's theses (final projects) represent an important part of students' academic journey. Embracing technology as a tool, rather than an end in itself, has become imperative in contemporary higher education and thesis processes. Departing from traditional instructional methods, the focus has shifted towards interactive and autonomous learning, propelled or supported by digitalization. Despite the growing emphasis on autonomous learning and the benefits of technology-enhanced learning (TEL), there are concerns about the misuse of digital tools such as Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in educational contexts. The scarcity of knowledge to properly use available tools would potentially affect students' academic performance and future employment prospects, which has recently caused significant concern for educational authorities, educators, and even policymakers. This study reflects on students' perceptions of using digitalization and GAI to facilitate autonomous and interactive learning to support the thesis writing process. The focus is to understand how digital natives (predominantly Gen Z) view the integration of new digital tools in autonomous learning. A case-based approach in the form of an open survey conducted during the spring semester of 2024 gathered 52 responses from students within the informatics discipline at bachelor's and master's levels in a Swedish university. Results indicate that most students used digital tools such as GAI interactively, in the thesis process, mainly for constructive learning. They indicated that learning about digital tools as part of their formal learning leads them towards effective and more structured use of the tools for brainstorming, drawing inspiration, and developing interactive learning, which simulates real-world peer interactions or teacher-student dynamics. This instructional approach equips students with the skills to responsibly use tools as academic support rather than for any other inappropriate purposes. Effective utilization of digital tools promotes autonomous learning, leading to improved quality of bachelor's and master's theses and overall academic performance in higher education. Conversely, inadequate knowledge and improper use of these tools can negatively impact students' educational outcomes.

Effects of Innovative Technologies on Gender Disparity and the Future of Work

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) has prompted organizations to embrace digital transformation, demanding that employees possess ICT technical skills to boost productivity. In developing countries, a lack of ICT education exacerbates high youth unemployment, particularly among gender-disadvantaged individuals who struggle to secure jobs requiring digital literacy. This study investigates the factors contributing to the gender disparity of youth unemployment in South Africa. The study adopted the Technology Acceptance Theory to guide the study. The quantitative method was used for the data collection process using Google Forms to draft a questionnaire that was distributed to respondents online. The study results show the importance of ICT technical education to improve youth employment prospects and recommend that policymakers implement ICT skills development initiatives to mitigate youth unemployment.

The Alarming Exodus of Nigerian Professionals: The Devastating Consequences of Human Capital Flight and Migration on Nigeria's Economic Development

Purpose: This study rigorously investigates the phenomenon of human capital flight and migration in Nigeria, emphasizing the alarming exodus of skilled professionals and its profound implications for the nation's economic development. By contextualizing brain drain within the broader landscape of labour mobility, this work seeks to elucidate the factors driving the migration of educated individuals, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and technology. Materials and Methods: Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this research synthesizes qualitative data from academic literature, policy documents, and empirical studies, alongside quantitative analysis drawn from migration statistics and socioeconomic metrics. This robust methodological framework supports a comprehensive exploration of the interplay between migration, brain drain, and national development, facilitating a deeper understanding of the ramifications of skilled labour loss. Findings: The findings indicate that Nigeria's alarming exodus of professionals is intricately linked to a confluence of factors, including systemic corruption, deteriorating infrastructure, and limited employment prospects. This human capital flight significantly undermines the quality and accessibility of essential services in critical sectors, leading to substantial socio-economic disparities. Consequently, the loss of skilled labour constrains Nigeria's competitive edge and stunts its economic resilience and growth potential. Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy: This inquiry extends beyond descriptive analysis to propose a nuanced framework for understanding the theoretical implications of human capital flight and migration in developing economies. It underscores the urgent need for policymakers to undertake comprehensive strategies that address the root causes of this phenomenon, fostering a conducive environment that retains talent while enhancing human capital investment and innovation capacity.

Academic success centers at us universities as an effective factor in ensuring the quality of higher education

The aim of the work is theoretical analysis of the peculiarities of the activity of the Academic Success Centers in the U.S. universities. The methodological basis of the study are official websites of Academic Success Centers, scientific articles by Ukrainian and American researches and analytical reports. Results. The article is devoted to a review of the activities of Academic Success Centers in U.S. universities. It is found that there is no single definition of «Academic Success Center» due to the variety of services offered. It is determined that Academic Success Center is a structural institution that provides academic and social-psychological support to students, helps to reveal their potential and prepare them for a career. The author emphasizes the technologies of support for students of higher education institutions. The main support technologies are tutoring, mentoring, academic coaching and Supplemental Instruction. It is proven that these technologies contribute to the improvement of the academic achievements of students and increase students’ retention rate of the educational institution. Special emphasis is placed on the interaction of the Center with freshmen, who most often face a number of problems in a new academic environment for them. The Centers provide academic advising for students on choosing courses. Academic advising lasts from admission to graduation at the university. Moreover, Academic Success Centers provide an opportunity not only to learn, but also to teach. Seniors have the opportunity to become tutors, mentors and academic coaches. A special feature of Centers is career guidance work with applicants. Universities organize meetings of future first-year students with students, graduates, teachers and administration of the institution to provide complete information about admission, studies and further employment prospects. Conclusions. The conducted study proved the need for further thorough research of the basic principles and areas of activity of centers of academic success in US universities in order to introduce better experience into educational practice.

AI and Digital Technology: Gender Gaps in Higher Education

Abstract This article examines gender gaps in higher education in Spain in the context of technological advancements, particularly digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI). First, analyzing descriptive Spanish data we identify significant disparities, with women overrepresented in health-related fields and underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines. This imbalance is concerning as STEM fields offer better employment prospects and higher salaries. Then, we analyze university degrees’ exposure to technological change through routine task intensity (RTI) and AI exposure indices, as well as a novel index of exposure to emerging digital technologies from 2015 to 2024. Our findings show that women are more enrolled in degrees with higher RTI, prone to automation, and less in degrees with higher AI exposure, likely to benefit from technological advancements. This suggests technological change could widen existing labor market gender gaps. To address this, we recommend policies to boost female participation in STEM fields and adapt educational curricula to reduce routine tasks and enhance AI complementarities, ensuring equitable labor market outcomes amid technological change. “Missed opportunity”: mental health and ethnographic fieldwork in Japan during the Covid-19 pandemic

The aim of this article is to explore how the relationship between ethnographic research and the mental health of its practitioners is represented in formal anthropological writing and methodological training. Drawing on my recent ethnographic research in Japan, I first reflect on my own mental health and the ways in which I coped with the challenges and difficulties in my professional and personal life since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. I then focus on how ethnographers’ mental health is treated in anthropology, in particular, and other social sciences in general. I find that the long-standing inclination of neglecting mental distress during and after fieldwork is beginning to change, with researchers, especially female anthropologists, beginning to point out the pitfalls of ethnography related to mental health. However, the issue remains highly stigmatized. Although fears exist that writing openly about the mental anguish experienced during fieldwork will affect future employment prospects. I think that it is necessary we examine them, as the emotions often continue to affect the lives of ethnographers even after leaving the field.

A Study of Mobility as a Service for Mobility Management System in the Education Sector

The initiative of the Peru provides robust assistance for promoting mobility to facilitate the discovery of training or employment prospects. It is imperative to discover solutions for limited mobility during widespread disease outbreaks. A practical approach would be establishing a collaborative platform that facilitates cooperation in both professional and educational domains. This research seeks to determine the essential elements to develop a new ecosystem to promote Peru’s academic mobility. This research utilized qualitative and quantitative techniques, specifically interviews, to gather data from 150 participants. The researchers employed the NVivo applications, notably its Word Frequency Query tool, to discern pertinent attributes within the four primary groups: competency acquisition, teaching methods, organization, and technologies. The results indicate that focusing on acquiring skills relevant to the future job marketplace is essential. Learners show a preference for activities that incorporate gamification. The platform ought to be designed to facilitate effortless searching for jobs and training opportunities. In general, learners have a good perception of material that focuses on the future, motivates them, and includes various technical activities. The user experience study might be expanded to encompass a cohort of educators and administrative staff involved in educational Mobility as a Service (MaaS) endeavors.

Problems and prospects for employment of young Russian teachers

The article raises the problems related to the peculiarities of building a professional career of graduates with pedagogical education. Despite the constant demand in the labor market, educational organizations are in a situation of chronic shortage of teaching staff. The aim of the article is to analyze the difficulties and challenges faced by young teachers not only during employment, but also during the period of adaptation in an educational institution. Based on a large array of statistical data, as well as sociological studies conducted by the research teams of Institute of Sociology of FCTAS RAS and RSUH, risk factors and channels of leaving the labor market of young teachers-professionals shown. The article poses, firstly, the problem of insufficiently meaningful choice and, as a consequence, motivation of future teachers during their enrollment in the university, the formation of “professional ballast” of students unmotivated for the profession of teacher. Secondly, the problem of lack of necessary vacancies, insufficient salary, uncomfortable working conditions. Thirdly, the problem of adaptation to work in an educational institution: the lack of stress resistance, professionalism, communication competence, responsibility and initiative. It is concluded that in order to attract young teachers to schools it is necessary to take thoughtful measures to retain motivated people in the profession, starting from the university stage and ending with the creation of favorable conditions for their career development in the workplace.

Staying away from the crowds: an analysis of factors influencing Chinese college graduates’ decision to study in the Nordic countries

ABSTRACT The surge in international student mobility (ISM) has seen China emerge as a leading source of international students, including being one of the largest sources in the Nordic countries. This paper draws upon empirical evidence to explore the factors influencing Chinese college graduates’ decisions to study in the Nordic countries. While confirming the impact of economic and scholastic capital on study abroad decision making, this study also highlights the significant role of students’ perceptions of the destination country in the context of China-Nordic degree mobility. An Access-Experience-Outcome (A-E-O) model is proposed to explain students’ decision-making process regarding degree mobility, which reintegrates the various scattered factors affecting students’ choice of study abroad destinations in the push-pull theory. The findings suggest that the Nordic countries, known for their welfare systems and quality of life, provide an attractive alternative for students seeking unique educational and cultural experiences, as well as promising prospects for immigration and employment. This research contributes to the literature by offering a nuanced perspective on Chinese student mobility beyond the mainstream destinations and provides policy implications for the Nordic countries in attracting and supporting international students in a competitive higher education market.

Dynamics of youth unemployment in ASEAN-5 emerging economies through macroeconomic analysis

This research investigates youth unemployment dynamics in ASEAN-5 emerging economies using a macroeconomic framework. Employing the panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) methodology, it examines the effects of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), inflation rate, population growth and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on youth unemployment rates. Empirical results reveal that GDP and inflation significantly influence youth unemployment over the long term. This highlights the interplay between economic expansion and youth employment prospects. Conversely, neither population growth nor FDI significantly impacts youth unemployment. This suggests that increasing population or attracting foreign investments alone may not directly translate to better employment opportunities for the youth. Instead, robust economic growth and stable inflation rates are crucial. These findings underscore the need for ASEAN-5 policymakers to develop strategies fostering economic growth and controlling inflation to mitigate its adverse effects on youth employment. The research provides insights into how targeted economic policies can better address youth unemployment challenges, creating a conducive environment for job creation and economic stability, ultimately benefiting the youth workforce.
