A comprehensive literature review on the basis of the flexural and ductility behaviour of the plate reinforced concrete beams are presented in this paper. The objective of this paper is to provide a review of the development and current progress in the flexural and ductile behaviour of plate-reinforced concrete beams. The composite beams are composed of plain concrete beams strengthened by steel plates, externally bonded to their tension faces. The effects of four parameters; namely, plate thickness, beam size, concrete strength, and adhesive type on the moment capacity, deflection, and failure mode of composite beams are studied. This paper also highlights the use of plate thickness and beam size, which has a significant impact on the flexural strength, stiffness, and failure mode of composite beams. Furthermore, this literature study also identifies areas, where further research is needed, such as, the effect of the adhesive type and concrete grade on the properties of composite beams.
