COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF GENDER EQUALITY POLICY ON THE LABOR MARKET IN CHINA AND RUSSIA

The theme of gender inequality of character for many countries of the world. Particularly acute is the issue of inequality in the labor market in countries with a problem of low levels of natural reproduction of the population. One of the countries with this demographic problem is Russia. The purpose of this work is to identify the most relevant measures to combat gender inequality in the labor market of the Russian Federation. The author analyzed the works on this topic by domestic authors, for example, N.V. Zubarevich, A.S. Budyakova. In addition, in retrospect, the measures taken by the PRC government to combat inequality in the labor market were considered. Learning from China’s experience in fighting inequality in the labor market can be useful for Russia and other countries, as China is one of the largest economies in the world and has already made significant progress in this area. The theoretical analysis carried out made it possible to identify a number of measures that can be adopted from the PRC, for example, the promotion of entrepreneurial activity among women. The author also proposed some measures derived from the work of domestic researchers.

Institutional factors that impact the entrepreneurial activity of university students

Higher education institutions (HEIs) have a responsibility towards the comprehensive transformation, both social and economic, that they bring to individuals through their access to teaching and learning processes. Therefore, through a document review methodology, the aim was to identify the main institutional factors that impact students' entrepreneurial activity. In this way, a unified input is generated to support the programs and initiatives of each institution, to contribute to their strengthening and the promotion of entrepreneurial activity. It was found that entrepreneurship education should be approached as something other than the ultimate goal but as an expected outcome of a comprehensive education, fostering the development of essential life skills such as creativity and innovation.

Entrepreneurship has increasingly captured policymaker’s attention due to the need to promote economic development and job creation. Among the drivers of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial education is of particular significance. This paper reviews entrepreneurship education from a research and practice perspective. Firstly, a discussion is held as to whether entrepreneurial talent is born or bred. Secondly, the different approaches to entrepreneurship education are revised, specifying their distinctive characteristics. This is followed by a review of research on the potential of entrepreneurship education to awaken individuals’ entrepreneurial intentions. Finally, a series of practical considerations aimed at improving entrepreneurship education programs are proposed. Ultimately, this paper contextualizes entrepreneurship education, advocating its relevance in the promotion of entrepreneurial activity.

An Econometric Analysis of Entrepreneurship and Unemployment for Sub-Saharan Africa: 2006 -2016

High unemployment rate in Sub-Saharan Africa continue to persist with a current rate of 6.14% in 2016, 6.28% in 2017, 6.16% in 2018, 6.17% in 2019 from 6.18% in 2020 (World Bank, 2020). Several factors account for the high unemployment rate including poor infrastructural facilities such as power supply which discourages entrepreneurial activities, poor standard of education resulting in unemployable youths, corrupt political environment which channels funds for productive activities into private pockets, high population growth rate, neglect of the manufacturing and agricultural sector and insecurity of lives and property. The resultant effect include high crime rate, high rate of depression due to long state of hopelessness, loss of skills by the unemployed, low economic growth, high poverty rate and increased rural-urban migration. Several programs are implemented by the government towards curbing high unemployment rate which can be categorized into 3 groups: infrastructural development, promotion of entrepreneurial activities and encouraging foreign investors. Hence this study assesses the impact of entrepreneurship start-ups on reducing unemployment in the sub-Saharan Africa region using a sample of 10 countries for the period 2006-2016. The study applied traditional panel data methodology of pooled OLS, random effect and fixed effect, and finds a positive relationship between the two variables thus suggesting that if entrepreneurship is well harnessed it can sufficiently reduce unemployment in the region.

Emprendimiento e innovación: agentes potenciadores de la empresa familiar

El presente trabajo tiene como propósito realizar una reflexión teórica sobre el emprendimiento y la innovación como agentes potenciadores de la empresa familiar. Se inserta en un paradigma cualitativo, apoyado en una revisión documental, especificamente textos, y artículos científicos derivados de base de datos especializada de reconocidos autores en el área, tales como: Navarro y Villegas (2016), Vesga (2017), Rockefeller (2004), entre otros. Los resultados muestran luego de la revisión bibliográfica, que existe una necesidad de fortalecer la innovación para promover la sostenibilidad de este tipo de empresas; asimismo, se debe reorientar esfuerzos en funcion de las políticas públicas definidas hacia el fomento de la actividad emprendedora; estas proveen los recursos financieros que deben ser aprovechados para el desarrollo tanto de las empresas familiares como de las comunidades en las cuales se insertan. Debe existir una cultura emprendedora apoyada en la innovación que permita potenciar la economia familiar y de la sociedad en general.

From opportunities to action - An integrated model of small actors’ engagement in bioenergy business

Abstract The promotion of entrepreneurial activities and establishment of SMEs to strengthen national competitiveness has accelerated the examination of the business opportunities offered by cleaner technologies, such as bioenergy solutions. Finland is one of the countries which seek new ways for economic growth by boosting e.g. the growth of bioeconomy, and the rural areas in the country are considered as fertile ground for the growth of grassroot-level innovations related to bioenergy. However, the growth does not happen without suitable incentives for bioenergy business development. Thus, it is reasonable to examine the factors which have an influence on the decisions the actors in these rural regions make. In the paper, an integrated model is constructed to widen the knowledge of the process from the discovery of an entrepreneurial opportunity to actual business engagement. This is done by introducing the entrepreneurial process and utilizing the process in conjunction with two widely used theories: the Technology Acceptance Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior. The model offers an opportunity to observe the impact of different enablers and barriers on new business engagement, as they can be related to certain phases of the entrepreneurial process and certain environmental levels surrounding the individual actors. In the empirical study, an integrated model is reasoned in the context of small actors’ engagement in bioenergy by examining the business opportunities offered by biogas production from animal manure. The constructed model is meant to assist in the promotion of entrepreneurial intentions, and that way also to advance the fulfillment of national targets for bio-based economy and SME development.

CEO career horizons and when to go public: the relationship between risk-taking, speed and CEO power

Initial public offerings make a noteworthy contribution to both the growth of equity markets and the promotion of entrepreneurial activities. As a strategic issue, the decision on when to go public depends on the firm’s leader, and the personal characteristics of chief executives (CEOs) have been found to affect the results of the initial public offering. This paper investigates whether the speed with which firms go public depends on the CEO’s time to retirement, the so-called career horizon. Hypothesising that CEOs with short career horizons will be more risk-averse and aim to preserve their legacy, we found that CEO career horizon is negatively related to the time the firm takes to start the initial public offering. CEOs with longer career horizons make faster, more risky decisions, such as to go public, because of their risk-taking preferences. We also examined how the extent of CEO power affects this relationship. Our results show that a low level of power is linked to more risky decisions, so that powerful CEOs tend to be associated with taking longer to reach the point of initial public offering.

Alternative sources of financing entrepreneurial undertakings in agriculture

Insufficiency of internal financial resources and limited access to external sources of capital, as one of the key problems, local agricultural producers - entrepreneurs usualy describe with high cost of capital, complicated procedures, lack of transparency in regard to the settlement of credit requests and problems with security of loans. The aim of this study is to analyze the possibilities of facilitating access to increased volume of capital for domestic entrepreneurs in agriculture by using funding sources that are applied in developed economies for financing entrepreneurs. In order to achieve the stated aim, the subject of investigation in this paper is the analysis of alternative sources of financing, which use or increased adoption in Serbia would provide greater availability of capital for agricultural producers and others across the chain of agrobusiness complex and thus the promotion of entrepreneurial activity, and consequently, greater competitiveness and greater income of domestic agricultural producers and others across the chain of agrbusiness indirectly leading to increased economic growth and improvement of the welfare.

A systemic approach to entrepreneurial learning: an exploration using storytelling

AbstractThe promotion of entrepreneurial activity is high on the educational agenda, reflecting economic and political interest and support. However, the study of entrepreneurial learning is characterized by a diffuse and fragmented literature which spans policy, individual learning and business development, with conclusions based on a plethora of methodological approaches. In this paper, a systemic schema is modified and developed to provide a frame of reference for the study of entrepreneurial learning. The paper is based on a study of women's narratives of their experience as small/micro‐enterprise owner/managers in the UK. Theoretical developments concerning the potential usefulness of the schema are discussed; practical implications for the design of entrepreneurship development programmes are also presented.
