The Correlation Between Leadership Competency and Project Success in Construction Industry in Thailand

This study's main goal is to highlight the significance of implementing competencies in a project environment and underline the attribute of key leadership that is critical for the project's success. The literature review focuses on determining leadership competencies: emotional intelligence, a leadership trait, and transformational leadership and its project success. This research is highlighted; the field of project management is more crucial; it involves integration across the functions with unexpected situation occurrences. This research is representing the view and correlation between leadership competencies such as emotional intelligence, a leadership trait, and transformational leadership with the leadership theories. The research model's methodology with the survey was developed and used the qualitative method to validate, evaluate, and analyze the data. The result of this research is to identify and define the correlation between leadership competencies and project success.

Effective Factors on Project Success in Malaysian Construction Industry

Abstract Although success is a word that encapsulates a general and wide idea and it is challenging to provide a definite and a consensus definition from all individuals concerned, for many years, there has been a growing interest in identification of the success factors and the relationship with project success. In this research, the main objective investigates the relationship between top management, project mission, personnel, communication and Schedule/Plan and project success in construction industry in Malaysia. A survey was conducted among Managers and Employees of construction companies registered with Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) of Malaysia and the correlation and regression analysis was carried out in order to test the hypotheses of the study. Key areas are now offered that practitioners and academics should further explore to contribute to the knowledge body on project success and to explore in more details which factors affect project success in construction industry in Malaysia.

Impact of Materials Management on Project Success in Construction Industry

Materials management is a problem when there is shortage, delay in supply, damage and wastages. This research is all about how materials are managed during construction, its impact in the project success of Construction Companies, how successful a project can be when there is effective use of the materials. A literature review on materials management and project success in the contraction projects was conducted. It tells the need for more refined materials management solutions in order to improve in project success. Therefore, this study identifies the factors of importance and analyses using multi-linear regression analysis. Facts about this research were gotten over a survey by administering questionnaires. It shows how important and effective materials management is in the project success of any company. Framework for Designing Project Delivery and Contract Strategy in Chinese Construction Industry Based on Value‐Added Analysis

A project delivery method (PDM) and project contract strategy (PCS) are two critical factors for project success in construction industry. Currently, there are several options available for them in the construction industry, with several innovative PDMs and PCSs emerging along with the development of the industry. This paper maintains that the PDM should be designed in combination with the PCS given their close relationship. This paper focuses on the design of project delivery and contract strategy (PDCS), with the aim of developing a conceptual framework for the PDCS design. The design process is divided into two stages: preliminary design and detailed design, taking engineering design as a frame of reference. In the design process, the value‐added analysis of project objectives is adopted as a tool to make decisions at different stages. The framework proposed in this paper is intended to provide a more distinct and direct path to improving PDCS selection or design, as well as enhancing the reliability of decision‐making.

Influence of Six Sigma on project success in construction industry of Pakistan

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the level of implementation of Six Sigma (SS) in the construction industry of Pakistan along with the current state of affairs and the challenges, and opportunities for a successful implementation.Design/methodology/approachThe research is purely exploratory in nature. Based on published work, critical success factors are gathered, and a number of questionnaire surveys and interviews are conducted to refine and quantify their impact. A system dynamics framework to assess the SS influence on project success is developed and case study project are simulated.FindingsThe construction industry of Pakistan is still functioning in a traditional way; marred with low level of awareness and ad hoc approaches, the findings point to a huge improvement opportunity. Further, when under planning projects are exposed to SS, the chances of project success improve better than under execution projects.Research limitations/implicationsThe limited level of awareness possessed by the respondents constrains the possible outreach of this work in industrially developed contexts. However, this work may become an impetus for further research in managing quality in construction industry.Practical implicationsThe findings can be used to improve the quality provision of construction projects.Originality/valueThis work may trigger an important debate over the research and implementation of SS in the construction industry of developing countries that may greatly benefit by improving the quality of their projects and rectify their diminishing reputation for project success.

Do Longer Projects Have Larger Cost Deviation Than Shorter Construction Projects?

Construction cost and delivery time have been used as mutually inclusive measurement for project success in construction industry. In relation to this, several researchers showed a correlation between cost deviation and deviation on delivery time. However, very limited research discussed about the relationship between total construction time and cost deviation. The purpose of this paper is to analyze two specific types of construction projects (roads and buildings) and test if there is a correlation between cost performance and the length of construction time. In other words, respond to the proposition that longer projects have large cost deviation. Further, the research discusses managerial implications by referring what it really matters in cost performance in either of longer or shorter projects. To do this, the research considers various size public road construction projects and building constructions with different project completion time. It uses quantitative research method. The result showed that longer project do not necessarily have higher cost deviation. Unlike the building construction, road construction showed negative correlation between cost and construction time. However, few longer projects showed relatively large cost deviation as compared to smaller projects. This paper also wants to do practical discussions by comparing the attributes of shorter versus the longer projects.
