Strengthening the excellence of study programs is a strategic step in order to improve the quality of competitiveness of study programs in order to be able to adapt to the needs of scientific developments at the global level. Therefore, a comprehensive and data-based strategy formulation is needed to optimize the Strengthening process. This study aims to identify the Strengths, opportunities, Weaknesses, and Threats and formulate a strategy to Strengthen the excellence of the D3 Culinary Arts Study Program of Balikpapan State Polytechnic. The methods used in formulating this excellence Strengthening strategy are SWOT and QSPM. The results obtained in this study are based on the IE matrix which is seen in the total IFEM score of 2,966 and EFEM of 2,924 in the SWOT matrix, the position of the Study Program is in quadrant V (Hold and Maintain) which means it has moderate internal and external capabilities so that it is necessary to Strengthen the Strength variables and develop according to the opportunities it has. Based on the QSPM analysis, alternative strategies to utilize industry-based curriculum and the implementation of PBL-based curriculum to establish collaboration with institutions and industries at national and international levels to improve student competency and internship opportunities (9.90), overcome the community paradigm towards universities in Java which are considered better by improving international accreditation of study programs and utilizing a wide alumni network for promotion and branding, (9.84) and utilizing a wide alumni network to expand cooperation and funding in the fields of education and research and improving mentoring and networking programs for students (9.82) are the three priorities of the Study Program

The Electrical Engineering study program of the Faculty of Engineering, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia has been collaborating with Harapan Bagi Bangsa Christian Middle School, Cilincing, North Jakarta for several years in an extracurricular program for junior high school students, as a form of community service from Electrical Engineering lecturers. The extracurricular activity program implemented is in the form of basic electronics training. The theme of the activity varies, according to the requests and needs of the partner schools. The first activity is to provide basic electronics skills training to students. This program received a very positive response from teachers and students. From the evaluation results of previous activities, all students wanted training activities with advanced materials. The training provided is an introduction to basic Arduino Uno microcontrollers using Tinkercad simulation software. The purpose of this activity is to conduct training on the introduction and how to program the Arduino Uno microcontroller to turn on Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). The training was carried out at Harapan Bagi Bangsa Christian Middle School. The training began by assembling the resistor and LED components on the project board. After all the components were installed, an Arduino Uno microcontroller program was created to turn on the LEDs alternately according to the order of the program created. The training used Tinkercad simulation software and the Arduino Uno microcontroller board. From the results of the student evaluation, 92.2% of students gave good and excellent ratings, while 7.8% gave neutral ratings for this training.

Association of Body Mass Index and Physical Activity with Psychological Stress among Female Undergraduate Students in Nigeria

Abstract Background: The prevalence of stress among university students has emerged as a significant concern, with notable impacts on their academic performance and overall well-being. Despite the growing body of literature on the association between body mass index (BMI), physical activity (PA), and stress, there is a shortage of research in Nigeria. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the associations of stress with BMI and PA among female students in Nigeria. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was employed, and data were collected from a convenience sample of 301 female undergraduate students at a Nigerian university. The Perceived Stress Scale and International PA Questionnaire—Short Form assessed stress and PA. BMI was calculated from the participant’s weight and height. Results: Participants’ mean BMI was 22.5 ± 3.8 with 68.4% falling within the normal BMI range. A greater percentage reported low levels of PA (60.8%) and moderate stress levels (67.4%). There was no significant relationship between BMI and stress (r = −0.090, P = 0.131). However, a low level of PA was associated with increased stress (r = −0.131, P = 0.027). Conclusion: PA significantly influences stress. Universities should facilitate an exercise-friendly environment and encourage PA programs for female students.

This study aims to develop and implement a drone-based education program for 4th-grade elementary school students during school autonomous hours and to evaluate its impact on student agency. This involved surveys of the educational community and analyses of school infrastructure and characteristics. Using the ADDIE model, a 22-session program was developed. Pre- and post-tests measuring student agency were administered to an experimental group (17) and a control group (32). Additionally, reflections and self-assessment journals from the experimental group were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings are summarized as follows: First, the democratic consensus within the educational community played a key role in the design and implementation of the program. By synthesizing the inputs from students, parents, and teachers, a drone education program aligned with environmental and sustainable development education was developed. The program’s activities included theory and piloting practice based on safety education, using drones to solve school problems, and lessons on career and ethics. This process contributed to a sense of responsibility and cooperation among all stakeholders, especially boosting student motivation and interest in learning while maximizing the program’s effectiveness. Second, the analysis of pre- and post-test results on student agency in both the experimental and control groups, as well as the progression reflected in self-assessment journals, revealed improvements across all four domains of student agency—community agency, learning interaction, purposefulness, and responsibility. Third, the study demonstrated the potential of the developed drone education program as a valuable resource for school autonomous hours. It provided a learning experience where students took the initiative to participate, reorganizing the drone utilization from a briefly covered topic in practical arts or creative classes into 22 lessons to cover related contents in depth and foster cooperation within the educational community. The study found that the developed program positively impacted elementary school students' agency. Moreover, the materials are expected to serve as useful references for developing drone programs for elementary school students and structuring autonomous school hours.

늘봄학교의 초등학교 저학년 대상 지속가능한 식생활교육 프로그램 개발

This study developed and evaluated a sustainable food education program for lower elementary school students as a model for Neulbom School, a recently introduced program providing child care and education in elementary schools. The program consisted of 30 sessions over 15 weeks during the second semester of the 2024 academic year for first-grade students at an elementary school in Seoul. Focusing on fostering healthy eating habits and cultivating basic cooking skills for sustainable food practices, a series of lessons were developed on the importance of eating, taste education, awareness of diverse foods, basic cooking, and reducing food waste. These lessons were designed in line with the developmental stages of first graders and included content on cooking practices that reflected and addressed the needs of both students and parents. To this end, necessary lesson plans and teaching materials were developed for each lesson, creating a student-centered approach that met the needs of the target audience. We aimed to nurture basic self-management skills through storytelling with children's books in line with students' developmental stages, body expression activities, and communication through play. Program effectiveness was evaluated through observations of students' behavior, records, and class outputs, as well as participant interviews. The results showed improved basic lifestyle habits and social development, strengthening self-management capabilities. Moreover, both students' and parents' interest in the program increased as they recognized its potential and the need for its expansion as an effective educational tool for elementary school students. Recommendations for program improvement and expansion included customizing and supporting school-based food education programs, developing and expanding age-appropriate cooking utensils, improving awareness and providing the necessary equipment for hygiene and safety for cooking, and offering efficient administrative support for material preparation and food handling. As a novel educational approach that combines care and education, this study seeks to expand the food education component—traditionally underrepresented in the elementary school curriculum—into a program that fosters self-management skills in food management through educational activities offered by the Neulbom School.

This study surveyed 319 students majoring in early childhood education at a four-year K-university located in Gyeonggi-do on their perception of the extracurricular program. Through this, it is intended to provide basic data on the development and operation of extracurricular program for students majoring in early childhood education in the future. This research tool is a questionnaire related to the operation of extracurricular program and was analyzed by the SPSS 24 statistical program. Early childhood education students at K University participated the most in the program to promote career and practical skills in the field. First-year students' participation was the lowest, while fourth-year students who were about to graduate and find employment were the highest. Satisfaction with the 'creative personality' and 'convergence' programs was relatively low, and the satisfaction of other programs all showed a score of 3.4 or more on a 4-point scale and were statistically significant. As a result of DUNCAN post-test, the satisfaction of first-year students was relatively low, so improvement measures are required. In the 'teaching personality' program, the effect of the program was the largest, while the 'creative personality' program showed a relatively low degree of improvement, and these results were statistically very significant. The 3,4rd grade, who is about to practice childcare, had the highest rate of request for program opening, and the 1st grade had the lowest rate. Early childhood education students were more likely to demand that a extracurricular program of major-related and digital use be conducted at home non-face-to-face within 2 hours during the afternoon or evening of the semester.

Exploring the impact of the Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) as a crucial motivating landing space

The smooth transition of students into higher education is crucial for laying a strong foundation for success at the university level. This paper investigated students’ perceptions and responses to enrolling in an Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) and lecturers’ efforts to motivate students and understand the factors that may hinder student success. To achieve this, the research utilised a mixed methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative dimensions. The researchers purposefully selected 150 ECP students enrolled in the 2024 academic year. Data collection involved the use of free listing techniques and semi-structured interviews, which allowed for a comprehensive understanding of the students' experiences. The collected research data was organised, transcribed, and analysed using thematic analysis, ensuring a systematic and in-depth exploration of the data. Additionally, the findings were statistically analysed using Microsoft Excel to compare the challenges faced based on gender and age, providing a nuanced understanding of the factors influencing student transition. The students, while enthusiastic about their university experience, also expressed feelings of being lost and overwhelmed during their transition. Many students, particularly those who linked their early academic performance to future opportunities, felt unprepared for independent study at the university, which was distressing. Ignoring such experiences and the lack of a sense of belonging can hinder students' academic success. Therefore, it is crucial for lecturers to identify students’ emotions early and implement supportive strategies, such as a well-planned orientation program, recognition, and rewards for high-achieving students. The paper recommends strategies and techniques that should be implemented to facilitate a smoother transition for students into higher education.

The emergence of generative AI in education has a revolutionary impact, which moves teaching-learning processes to change, thus requiring teachers and students to learn new skills to enhance their use in such a way that it favors meaningful learning. This research focused on knowing the impact of its use on the learning of programming in UTHH students; The Case Study Method proposed by Robert Yin was used. The analysis of the results does not lead to the conclusion that students strengthen the learning process through requesting guidance and correction on errors in the code, detailed explanation of the lines of code to ChatGPT, highlighting the fact that it can be used natural language for communication, which helps them better understand the problems raised.

Non-formal education as a form of supporting the development of programming skills in primary school students

ObjectivesThe main goal of the article is to analyze the role of non-formal education in the context of teaching programming to primary school students in non-formal educational settings, considering current technological developments and the need for adaptation in educational approaches.Material and methodsThe text employs descriptive and analytical approaches, examining the characteristics and benefits of non-formal education in programming. The author utilizes theoretical and practical examples to illustrate the issues of non-formal education and the development of programming skills among primary school students.ResultsThe conclusions highlight the advantages of non-formal education in teaching programming to primary school students, such as flexibility, individualization, and emphasis on practical skill development. Universal, School-Based Mental Health Literacy Programs for Middle School Students: A Scoping Review.

Universal, classroom-based mental health literacy (MHL) curricula are associated with improved mental health knowledge, attitudes, and help-seeking behaviors. Young adolescents are an ideal target given their need for and receptivity toward MHL education. We conducted a scoping review to identify universal, school-based MHL programs primarily for students aged 10-14 years, with adequate descriptions of curriculum implementation and content, and measured outcomes. Thirty-one articles describing 24 programs met the inclusion criteria. The content and educational strategies varied, with no two programs having the same curriculum. The studies show promising results for improvement in mental health knowledge, attitudes, help-seeking, and student mental health. Collaborative work between educational and mental health professionals, along with rigorous study of outcomes, aiming to reach a consensus on a core MHL curriculum and best implementation practices, will advance efforts to improve MHL. This scoping review confirmed that existing universal, school-based MHL programs for middle school-aged students improve mental health knowledge. The programs are diverse, and their outcomes are often challenging to compare. Ongoing study in this field to optimize design and implementation for improved effectiveness is needed.

Entrepreneurial Guidance and Educational Programs for Young University Students in the City of Riobamba

After the growing economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for entrepreneurial orientation arises in educational programs at universities. Concept that has been incorporated in universities, as a topic of importance in the different careers and training areas today, in the face of the problem of lack of employment and the crisis, it is therefore essential to work on these concepts. The results of the research in university students were: 56% women, 44% men; 58% at the age of 21-24 years; 98% single, 2% cohabiting; 67% students from (ESPOCH) and 33% from (UNACH). In the entrepreneurship orientation variable, three indicators were measured: (i) short-term goals: 75% of students spend on vacations, 93% spend on parties, 58% spend on clothing; 81% spend on food; 95% spend on their vocational training to obtain a university degree. (ii) medium-term economic goals: 62% would invest in financial entities; 63% would be part of the shares of a company. (iii) long-term goals: 48% would buy a vehicle, and 88% would buy a house or an apartment. In the educational programs variable, 74% have a business initiative; 79% have not yet started a business and have not carried out commercial activities; 70% do not have an account in a financial institution to invest in their own business; 56% would take out a loan to start a business, 67% expect employability to obtain their own business. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between the entrepreneurial orientation variables and the educational programs. Resumen Tras la creciente crisis económica ocasionada por la pandemia COVID-19, surge la necesidad de la Orientación emprendedora en los programas educativos en los universitarios. Concepto que se ha incorporado en las Universidades, como tema de transcendencia en las distintas carreras y áreas de formación que hoy en día ante la problemática de falta de empleo y la crisis es imprescindible trabajar estos conceptos. Los resultados de la investigación en los estudiantes universitarios fueron: 56% mujeres, 44% hombres; 58% en la edad de 21-24 años; 98% solteros, 2% unión libre; 67% estudiantes de la (ESPOCH) y 33% de la (UNACH). En la variable orientación al emprendimiento se midió tres indicadores: (i)metas a corto plazo: 75 % de los estudiantes gastan en vacaciones, 93% gastan en fiestas, 58% gastan en prendas de vestir; 81% gastan en alimentos; 95% gastan en su formación profesional para obtener un título universitario. (ii)metas económicas a mediano plazo: 62% invertiría en entidades financieras; 63% formarían parte de las acciones de una empresa. En la variable programas educativos, 74% tiene iniciativa de un negocio; 79% aún no emprende y no han realizado actividades comerciales; 70% no tiene una cuenta en una entidad financiera para invertir en su propio negocio; 56% realizaría un crédito para emprender, 67% en su expectativa de empleabilidad es obtener su propio negocio. Measuring the Nexus Between Information Literacy, Creativity, and Lifelong Learning in Media Professionals

Information literacy (IL) plays an essential role in digital inclusion as it enables people to make use of the information available in multiple mediums on the Internet through digital devices. This study intends to examine the effect of IL on lifelong learning (LL) through the mediating role of creativity among news reporters in Pakistan using a quantitative research approach. The survey was conducted using an online questionnaire from the registered news reporters of press clubs in the four provinces and the federal territory of Islamabad, Pakistan. A total of 758 responses were received and analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results indicated that the IL of news reporters positively influenced their lifelong learning through both direct and indirect pathways. Furthermore, the nexus between IL and LL was influenced by the mediation of creativity. These findings have practical implications for academia and the media industry, highlighting the invaluable role of IL in enhancing lifelong learning and creativity to attain a sustainable competitive advantage. These results may inform educational programs for journalism students and existing journalists to impart IL skills. This research contributes to the available literature on workplace IL, especially in the context of media professionals.

Self-Determination Theory Applied to a Second-Year Engineering Classroom

Integrated Learning Stream (ILS) is the program for second-year electrical engineering students at the University of Calgary. During the semester, students complete reflections about their learning. This paper aims to find insight into students’ motivation during the ILS program. Using self-determination theory as the conceptual framework, student reflections were qualitatively coded. From the themes that emerged, a narrative discussion provides insight into how to foster students’ intrinsic motivation in future years of the program. The discussion also aims to be applicable to any post-secondary engineering classroom.

Aligning Health Occupation Students for Valuable Interprofessional Learning: Evaluating Program Structure, Resources, and Student Experiences in a Regional Clinical Setting

Developing Inter-Professional Education (IPE) programs for undergraduate healthcare students poses multiple complex challenges, in both university and workplace settings. These challenges can limit the widespread implementation of IPE, despite research demonstrating its potential impact on improving knowledge about other professions roles, collaborative practice, and inter-professional identity. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of an IPE program delivered in a regional health service during clinical placements and evaluate student perceptions of its value to their learning. Students from fourteen disciplines (n=136 across eight workshops) completed a retrospective mixed methods survey. Students particularly valued the following aspects of the IPE program: clinical simulation, structured approach to communication and timely multi-source feedback. Inter-professional learning which enabled opportunities to learn with, from or about students was highly valued.

Demonstrating Progress and Potential: Lessons Learned From Federally Funded Inclusive Postsecondary Education in the United States

ABSTRACTBackgroundSince 2010, there has been significant growth in the United States in the number of students with intellectual disability accessing higher education, driven by federal legislation and funding. Currently, over 340 institutions of higher education provide programs of study for students with intellectual disability. Of these programs, 134 have received federal funding through the Transition and Postsecondary Education Program for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID) model demonstration program. The Think College National Coordinating Center (NCC), the evaluator of the TPSID model demonstration projects, has collected annual data on student activities and outcomes.MethodsThis study provides trend analysis of data from the TPSID model demonstration program on almost 5000 students with intellectual disability over a 13‐year period.FindingsThis analysis identified trends in student characteristics, university access, employment, support and outcomes of federally funded higher education programs.ConclusionsThe TPSID model demonstration program and resulting student and program data substantially impacted higher education program development and quality in the United States. Trends reflected in this study demonstrate growth in inclusive course access, employment, credential attainment and use of financial aid for college students with intellectual disability. The study provides implications for practice, research and policy in the United States and internationally.

Teachers' and Students' Experiences on the Implementation of Individualized Education Programme for Students with Visual Impairments in Inclusive Secondary Schools

This study explored the experiences of teachers and students in implementing Individualized Education Programmes (IEPs) for students with visual impairment in Tanzania. The study employed a qualitative approach under case study design, situated at Shinyanga Secondary School in Kishapu district. A total of nineteen participants involved, including five special education teachers participated through interview and fourteen students with visual impairment participated through focus group discussion. The participants were selected purposively depending on their experiences in inclusive secondary school. The thematic analysis was used to analyse the data inductively. The study revealed three significant themes as experienced by the participants: the identification of the learning needs of students with visual impairment (VI), strategies to meet VI learning needs, and challenges during the implementation of the IEPs. The study found inadequate implementation of IEPs from the selected school due to several challenges, including informal strategies in identifying students with VI, irregular training for the IEP team and inadequacy of teachers of special education to accommodate the available students with VI. The study suggests that the identification of students with visual impairment needs to be formalized, regular knowledge updates for the IEP team, and a reduced workload for special education teachers. Although this research is confined to a single-school study, the findings can be used as a benchmark for the schools that face similar situations regarding IEP implementation
