National tolerance program of the United Arab Emirates:universal and spiritual values

The importance of tolerance in the multicultural reality of the modern world cannot be overestimated. Toler-ance is essential in the conceptual foundations of many states’ domestic and foreign policy. Against the back-ground of developing various models of tolerance in the world, there is also a reverse trend towards reviving traditional and religious values. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) promotes its position on the importance of traditional values and tolerance in shaping the conceptual foundations of the country's domestic and foreign policy. The UAE Federal Cabinet has approved a National Tolerance Program that promotes brotherhood and peaceful coexistence between different cultures and religions and fully supports traditional values. The article analyses the conceptualization of tolerance, its distinctive features, value bases and potential for implementa-tion in the Middle East region. The methodological and theoretical basis of the research was the work related to approaches in interpreting different views on understanding the concept of tolerance in the UAE. The arti-cle concludes that the balance between universal and traditional values of the Islamic world is the main fea-ture of the national tolerance program. It is also expected that, given the growing influence of the UAE in the Middle East, this model of tolerance may become widespread and become a new basis for consolidation in the Middle East.

DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OF HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS OF KAZAKHSTAN FOR THE TRAINING OF TOURIST PERSONNEL

The tourist industry in Kazakhstan demonstrates a high potential for growth, especially in the conditions of the development of domestic tourism and increasing interest in international tourists. High- quality training of tourist personnel is a key factor in the successful development of the industry, and educational programs of universities play an important role in the formation of professionals and work in this sphere. In this article, the specific features of educational programs of Kazakhstan for training tourist personnel, their compliance with market and international standards are considered.

Narrative Review of the Theoretical-Methodological Foundations of the TREINI Program.

Scientific knowledge has advanced in the implementation of safe and beneficial interventions for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP). Although the importance of interdisciplinary interventions that integrate all components of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) into family-centered practices is widely recognized, this approach is not yet widely adopted. Instead, many programs remain focused on isolated domains. This study presents the theoretical and methodological foundation of TREINI, an interdisciplinary and family-centered program developed for children and youth with CP and other neurodevelopmental disorders. TREINI incorporates intervention strategies that address all ICF domains. It is grounded in the biopsychosocial model of health and utilizes principles based on the best evidence in pediatric rehabilitation, including intensive training, task-oriented training, and a naturalistic learning environment. Unlike traditional rehabilitation approaches, the care provided by the TREINI program is delivered through an intensive and interdisciplinary approach, by a team working collaboratively in a single location. In addition to including evidence-based interventions, the TREINI program features two innovative components: the "City of Tomorrow", a naturalistic learning environment, and the "TREINI Exoflex" therapeutic suit, specifically designed to address deficiencies in the body functions and structures of children with CP and other neurodevelopmental disorders. This program has been carefully designed to support the process of neurological re-education and rehabilitation for children and adolescents with neuropsychomotor developmental delays.

Current problems of using artificial intelligence inHR management in Kazakhstan

The article provides an understanding of artificial intelligence in the field of HR, and it is said that the digitization of the industry is reflected in the widespread use of artificial intelligence. The theory and history of the field of artificial intelligence is systematized by reviewing the works of researchers. The possibilities of using artificial intelligence are clarified and its efficiency is considered. As a result of the study, it was determined that artificial intelligence is used in four main categories in the field of HR, and it was found that there is a high demand for automated resume search, analysis, and selection services. At the same time, in order to invite candidates for a vacant position, including the identification of qualified talented employees, chatbots, Skype interviews, the use of information on online recruiting platforms such as HeadHunter, notification of vacancies at fairs, and pilot projects introduced by the state will be analyzed. The features of artificial intelligence programs introduced in the Kazakhstan labor exchange, and changes brought to the HR system, the advantages and disadvantages will be discussed. Especially as the most effective programs in the field of artificial intelligence in recent years: IBM's Deep Blue program, Alvinn program for driving, and Microsoft Application and Services Group's talking robot program, the importance of research on the specificity of programs in the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals will be analyzed and considered as examples of regional enterprises.

I paid into it with every paycheck I earned: How benefit type and beneficiary contributions shape attitudes about increasing or decreasing administrative burdens for social protections

AbstractAdministrative burdens are an important policy tool that has received growing scholarly attention. Burdens are consequential and serve as a contributor to incomplete program take‐up. However, our knowledge is limited on how program characteristics affect public attitudes toward burden‐increasing or decreasing policies. Based on our knowledge of public attitudes toward the welfare state, two such characteristics, whether benefits are “earned” and whether they come in the form of in‐kind services or cash payments, may also affect perceptions of administrative burdens. Using a nationally representative survey (N = 2904), we tested support for two administrative burdens (in‐person interviews and requirements for government‐issued documents) and two administrative easings (presumptive eligibility and express lane eligibility) for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) in the United States. In general, we found no strong and consistent differences along both dimensions. However, Republicans, Conservatives, and those high in racial resentment consistently favored increasing burdens and opposed decreasing burdens with the opposite effect for Democrats, Liberals, and those low in racial resentment. Americans supported administrative burdens in the form of documentation requirements across all programs. However, they were open to burden decreases.

Youth-led community street sport in practice: balancing programme intentions and peer leadership

ABSTRACT Peer-led sport programmes can provide supportive social relations and opportunities for role modelling and identification. These features can support the inclusion of groups who usually do not participate in sport activities and provide an environment that fosters personal and social development. However, it is important to assess the implementation of peer-led activities to understand whether such potentials are fulfilled. Therefore, we investigated the quality of delivery of peer-led street sport activities implemented by the street sport organisation GAME. The study combined quantitative and qualitative observations. Peer leader practices were assessed quantitatively with 40 observation items scored on a Likert scale. In addition, qualitative observations could be noted on the observation form. We conducted 49 observations at 15 different peer-led street sport activities delivered in low-resource neighbourhoods. We compared peer leader practices with the intentions of the programme as described in the programme logic model and explored influences on delivery in the physical and social setting. Quantitative data showed that pedagogical competencies (‘role modelling’, ‘body language’ and ‘conflict management’) scored highest for quality of delivery. Sport instruction elements, particularly the categories ‘technique’ and ‘instruction’, scored lower. The qualitative analysis suggested that programme features and structure as well as the (mostly outdoor) community setting influenced the possibility of peer leaders for implementing the programme as intended. Peer leaders were often observed to function as role models, mostly in a prosocial manner, although role modelling was also observed to not support programme intentions. The study provided insight into some of the challenges in and potentials inherent to peer-led sport activities in the setting of low-resource neighbourhoods where youth peer leaders are responsible for implementation.

Operationalizing Predictors of Postschool Success in Secondary Transition: A Delphi Study

To improve postschool outcomes for students with disabilities, research in secondary transition has increasingly aimed to identify in-school experiences that contribute to positive outcomes after high school. Although research on postschool success for this population has recently identified seven new predictors, operational definitions and essential program characteristics remain missing. Therefore, the purpose of this Delphi study was to operationally define the seven newest predictors of postschool success in secondary transition and identify their essential program characteristics. Experts in the field of secondary transition reached consensus on an operational definition and a set of essential program characteristics for each of the seven newest predictors of postschool success. These definitions and essential program characteristics provide additional information needed to develop, implement, and evaluate effective secondary transition programs. Moreover, these results continue to move research to practice in meaningful and actionable ways. Suggestions for further research and implications are discussed.

The Challenges and Opportunities of Implementing Montessori Education in the Public Sector

Over the past two decades, Montessori education in the United States has rapidly expanded from the private to the public sector. This expansion has created important questions about whether or not the Montessori approach can thrive alongside the education standards and accountability movement in the public sector. Questions also exist as to precisely who is benefiting from this expansion of and investment in public Montessori. To examine these topics, this study focused on South Carolina, the state with the highest number of public programs in the United States. We used implementation surveys, classroom observations, and teacher interview data collected by the research team and student record data collected by the state of South Carolina to conduct the analysis, which consisted of three parts. First, we investigated to what extent public programs in South Carolina are able to implement Montessori education with fidelity to the model. Second, we considered what program characteristics were related to higher levels of Montessori implementation fidelity. Third, we analyzed which children had access to higher-fidelity Montessori programs. Generally, findings indicated that, despite challenges created by the education standards and accountability movement and concerns expressed by educators about authenticity, most programs in South Carolina were implementing Montessori with fidelity. Several characteristics were associated with higher levels of fidelity, including the age of the program. Findings also indicated that Black, Hispanic, and students from low-income families were disproportionately participating in lower fidelity programs. Our study provides an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities associated with government trying to implement successful private-sector education models in the public sector.

Are Aspiring Principals Prepared to Lead for Equity? An Exploratory Analysis of the Principal Fellows Typology in North Carolina

While principals play critical roles in mediating inequitable teaching and learning conditions in their schools, scholars have long argued that some remain unprepared for this responsibility. However, these arguments are often supported by qualitative studies of school leaders, years after their pre-service preparation. Using survey data on two cohorts of Master of School Administration (MSA) graduates, also pre-service principals, across North Carolina, this study analyzes their perceptions about their preparedness to engage in equity-oriented leadership. The study leverages the new Principal Fellows policy in North Carolina, a competitive grant program that awards state funds to principal preparation programs demonstrating exemplary principal program features and a focus on preparing school leaders for equity, as the basis of its evaluation. Overall, MSA graduates reported being very well prepared to enact equity-oriented leadership practices, though this preparedness was significantly higher for graduates across Principal Fellows preparation programs. The main finding from this study is that principal preparation program quality is the most significant predictor of graduates’ preparedness to engage in equity-oriented leadership. The findings from this study offer implications for principal preparation programs, policy, and future research.

Exploring the association between individual, family, and program characteristics and change in health outcomes 12 months after enrollment into the CANadian Pediatric Weight management Registry (CANPWR).

To examine individual, family, and program characteristics associated with changes in anthropometric and cardiometabolic health indicators in children with overweight or obesity after participating in multidisciplinary obesity management for 12 months. Participants included children 2-17 years old with overweight or obesity enrolled in the CANadian Pediatric Weight Management Registry (CANPWR). Multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to investigate the associations between individual, family, and program characteristics and changes in anthropometry (WHO BMI z-score) and cardiometabolic health indicators (systolic and diastolic blood pressure; fasting and 2-h glucose post-oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT); high density lipoprotein- (HDL) and non-HDL cholesterol and fasting triglycerides). BMI z-score data were available from 1065/1286 (82.8%) at 6-months post-baseline and 893/1286 (69.4%) at 12-months post-baseline. At 6-months, BMI z-score decreased relative to baseline (mean difference (MD) [95% confidence interval (CI)] = -0.08 [-0.10 to -0.06]; p < 0.001). BMI z-score (MD [95% CI] = -0.08 [-0.13 to -0.04); p = 0.001) and fasting triglycerides (MD [95% CI] = -0.07 [-0.13 to -0.02); p = 0.011) decreased at 12 months from baseline. Older age at baseline (estimated β = 0.025; 95% CI [0.006, 0.042], p = 0.007) and female sex (estimated β = 0.241; 95% CI [0.108, 0.329], p < 0.001) were associated with a worsened Δ BMI z-score at 12 months, while total hours with mental health provider (estimated β = -0.015; 95% CI [-0.030, -0.001], p = 0.049) was associated with an improved Δ BMI z-score at 12 months. Hours with an exercise counselor (estimated β = 0.023; 95% CI [0.008, 0.039], p = 0.003) were associated with improved HDL, while hours with a registered dietitian (estimated β = -0.026; 95% CI [-0.051, -0.001], p = 0.044) were associated with improved non-HDL cholesterol. Male sex and hours spent with a mental health provider, exercise counselor, and registered dietitian were related to significant improvements in several anthropometric and cardiometabolic health indicators at 12 months post-baseline.

A qualitative study on university student learning as part of an outdoor leadership course in Vietnam

ABSTRACT The current study uses experiential learning theory as a framework to understand themes associated with student outcomes of an outdoor leadership course in Vietnam. The study explores student-oriented themes, benefits of outdoor learning, and examples of contextualized concrete experience. Two hundred and eighteen university students participated as part of a 3-day two credit course with the theme of servant leadership. Survey responses were analyzed using qualitative methods and results produced higher and lower order themes linked to learning outcomes, program goals, and experiential learning mechanisms. Themes emerged related to course instructional goals (leadership), programmatic features (outdoor setting), and individual skills (problem solving). Themes were also associated with the outdoor setting and connections to nature appreciation, mental health, stress reduction, health and wellness, and proud moments linked to risk taking and physical challenge. Instructional process, concrete experience, and emergent thematic connections to the outdoor education setting are discussed.

Analysis of Surgeon and Program Characteristics Associated with Success on American Board of Surgery Exam Outcomes.

Existing research exploring predictors of success on American Board of Surgery (ABS) exams focused on either resident or residency program characteristics, but limited studies focus on both. This study examines relationships between both resident and program characteristics and ABS Qualifying (QE) and Certifying Exam (CE) outcomes. Multilevel logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between resident and program characteristics and ABS QE and CE 1st attempt pass and eventual certification. Resident characteristics were gender, IMG status, and prior performance, measured by 1st attempt USMLE Step 2 CK and Step 3 scaled scores. Program characteristics were size, %female, %International Medical Graduate (IMG), and program type. The sample included surgeons with QE and CE data from 2007-2019 and matched USMLE scores. Controlling for other variables, prior medical performance positively related to all ABS exam outcomes. The relationships between USMLE scores and success on ABS exams varied but were generally strong. Other resident characteristics that predicted ABS exam outcomes were gender and IMG (QE 1st attempt pass). The only program characteristic that significantly predicted ABS outcomes was %IMG (QE and CE 1st attempt pass). Despite statistical significance, gender, IMG, and %IMG translated to small differences in predicted probabilities of ABS exam success. This study highlights resident and program characteristics that predict success on ABS exams. USMLE scores consistently and strongly related to ABS exam success, providing evidence that USMLE scores relate to future high-stakes consequences like board certification. After controlling for prior performance, gender, IMG, and program %IMG significantly related to ABS exam success, but effects were small.

A Rapid Review of Mental Health Training Programs for School Nurses.

There is an urgent need for improved school-based mental health services to address students' increasing mental health needs. School nurses are often at the frontlines of youth mental health, but report feeling unprepared to manage student needs due to limited training. We conducted a rapid review to identify evidence-based mental health educational interventions for school nurses and evaluate program characteristics. Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria. While the literature evaluating mental health training programs for school nurses is limited, it suggests that training may improve school nurse knowledge, confidence, and preparedness to address student mental health needs and improve the management of student mental health. Additionally, it highlighted the importance of support, resources, and policies that foster mental health promotion. Future research should focus on obtaining a current assessment of school nurse mental health education needs, evaluating existing interventions, and developing more evidence-based mental health training programs for school nurses.

What Women Want: Program Design for Females Sentenced for Child Sexual Abuse

ABSTRACT There is a growing body of research exploring the treatment needs of females sentenced for child sexual abuse (CSA), along with an increased recognition of the importance of considering the “female” experience in correctional programming for this population. While knowledge of the gendered nuances relevant to “what” to address in program content has been explored, strategies for “how” to enhance responsivity in treatment programming for this population are less well-known. This research aimed to uncover key responsivity considerations relevant to program design and configuration for women sentenced for CSA. Interviews were conducted with justice-involved women sentenced for CSA in Australia (n = 18) and practitioners (n = 25) involved in delivering treatment. Thematic analysis revealed that flexible treatment methods, re-imagined treatment settings, and positive alliances are perceived as essential features of programs for women sentenced for CSA. Participant suggestions largely reflect practices currently used within programs for males sentenced for these offenses, and mirror international best-practice standards in correctional treatment. These findings shine light on the preferences of women who are commonly silenced in correctional research; thereby helping to inform evidence-based program development and design to enhance responsivity.

Efficacy and tolerability of extracorporeal shock wave therapy in patients with plantar fasciopathy: a systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression.

Plantar fasciopathy (PF) is a common musculoskeletal condition characterized by heel pain and functional impairment. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) has gained increasing interest in the treatment of PF, but the optimal ESWT program is still debated. Therefore, this systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression aimed at providing a comprehensive assessment of the efficacy and tolerability of ESWT in PF management. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published until February 2023 were systematically searched on PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and PEDro. Studies assessing adult patients with PF treated with ESWT were considered. The primary outcome was the tolerability of ESWT, measured by treatment adherence, dropouts, and safety. Secondary outcomes were pain intensity and functional outcomes. Meta-analysis and meta-regression were performed to examine the relationship between ESWT program characteristics and treatment outcomes. The quality of included studies was assessed using the Jadad scale and the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. Our findings showed that ESWT is effective in reducing pain intensity assessed by Visual Analogue Scale [focal-ESWT: -2.818 (SE 0.803, -4.393, -1.244; P< 0.0001; radial-ESWT: -3.038 (SE 0.428, -3.878, -2.199; P<0.001)]. Meta-regression analysis indicated a positive relationship between specific ESWT parameters (frequency, number of pulses, energy flux density and frequency, and number of pulses, pressure) and pain intensity (all P<0.05) and dropout (all P<0.05). ESWT seems to be an effective and tolerable treatment for PF, albeit the peculiarity of parameters might affect both the efficacy in pain relief and the adherence to the treatment. Physicians should consider individual patient characteristics when selecting the ESWT parameters for PF treatment. Further high-quality studies are warranted to establish the optimal ESWT protocol to treat PF.

Using Integrated Administrative Data for Promoting Access to Early Childhood Education Programs

Early childhood education (ECE) can significantly mitigate the detrimental effects of poverty. Head Start (HS) is a federally funded program in U.S. designed to promote school readiness for children from low-income families. Nationwide estimates suggest that HS only reaches 41% of eligible children and programs are facing under-enrollment, which highlights the importance of addressing the evolving needs. This is a secondary analysis study that utilizes real-world data to explore (a) child, family, neighborhood, and program characteristics that predict HS non/enrollment and (b) HS eligible children’s use of other public ECE programs. It employs an individual child-level integrated dataset from Iowa’s Integrated Data System for Decision-making (I2D2), including data from the State Departments of Public Health and Human Services, Education, and HS recipients. Our data is unique as one of the first systems in the U.S. that includes child-level data from HS recipients statewide. We also integrated aggregated county- and program-level datasets to include multidimensional neighborhood conditions (i.e., poverty, employment) and comprehensive information about HS programs (i.e., staffing, transportation, partnerships). Our analytic sample is 30,048 potential HS eligible children who were born in Iowa and attended kindergarten in 2016-17 or 17-18. Preliminary results showed that only 12% of eligible children were enrolled in HS the year before kindergarten. We are testing logistic and multinomial logistic regression models, and the results will be ready by the presentation. Findings will inform HS programs on improving equitable access and recruiting strategies to meet the needs of children who are most in need.

Addressing the Complex Needs of Customers Who Contact the Veterans Crisis Line.

Since its creation in 2007, the Veterans Crisis Line (VCL) has provided 24/7, confidential crisis support services for Veterans, Service Members, and their families, supporting the VA's highest clinical priority of suicide prevention. As part of this effort, VCL created the Customers with Complex Needs (CWCN) program to manage the individual needs and operational impact of VCL customers who call at a high frequency, are abusive toward hotline staff, exhibit sexually inappropriate behavior, and/or make threats of violence. This paper describes the VCL CWCN program and customer characteristics. Call data from 2012 to 2022, including operational data for 1,096 CWCN customers identified from October 2017 to December 2020, were used for analysis. At the cohort's peak size in 2020, calls from CWCN customers accounted for 0.4% of all distinct phone numbers received by VCL and for 22.1% of total VCL call volume. Implementation of the CWCN program was associated with significant annual reductions in average individual call volume among high frequency callers. However, no change in call volume was observed among nonhigh frequency callers. Formative challenges and future directions for the CWCN program and implications for other crisis lines are discussed.

Reported impact and protective factors of the care partner role during persistent critical illness: a content analysis

BackgroundPatients with persistent critical illness experience prolonged multi-system morbidity, functional impairments, and chronic conditions. As a result, these patients have prolonged intensive care unit admissions. If discharged, they return home with long-term medical dependencies. Care partners take on a variety of physical, mental health, cognitive, and social roles to support the provision of care for these patients. There is limited evidence, however, of the impact of being a care partner for this patient population during hospitalization.MethodsA qualitative descriptive study was conducted to explore the impact care provision on care partners for patients experiencing persistent critical illness. Patients who have or have had persistent critical illness and care partners were recruited from two inpatient units in a single community academic hospital in Toronto, Canada to participate in semi-structured interviews. Data was analyzed using a team-based inductive content analysis.ResultsSeven (43.8%) participants were patient survivors, and nine (56.3%) were care partners. Patients and care partners reported physical, socio-emotional, and social stress as impacts of care provision during persistent critical illness hospitalization. Care partners identified several protective strategies that they used to mitigate the impacts of care provision on them such as seeking external mental health support and boundary setting. Features of formalized and care partner programs were also identified and suggest that these programs can be protective of care partner values, mitigate feelings of helplessness and stress, and may improve relationships between the family members who are in the care partner role and the healthcare team.ConclusionsThis study identified physical, socio-emotional, and social stress related impacts of care provision on care partners of patients with persistent critical illness during hospitalization. Additionally, this study identified protective factors initiated by care partners to mitigate the reported stresses of the role, as well as protective features of a care partner program. The results provide a better understanding supportive features of care partner programs that are specific to the experiences and needs of persistent critical illness and add to the growing body of evidence about how to provide equitable access to care during and post hospitalization.

The Characteristics of Teacher Training with Social Impact to Overcome School Violence: A Literature Review

Research demonstrates that overcoming school violence is crucial for ensuring a safe environment and quality education for all students. The scientific literature shows that educators can significantly impact school violence, but their effectiveness hinges on the quality of their training. Therefore, identifying the most effective training types is essential. This literature review aims to identify and synthesize the characteristics of teacher-training programs that have effectively reduced school violence. Inclusion criteria were studies focusing on interventions to reduce school violence, with either quantitative or qualitative outcomes. Exclusion criteria were studies not specifically addressing school violence or lacking evaluative measures. Data sources included Web of Science, EBSCO Host, Medline, Scielo, and Scopus, with searches conducted in December 2023. From an initial pool of 2128 articles, 13 studies were included. The results, synthesized through narrative analysis, reveal the key features of teacher-training programs that effectively address school violence, including the nature of the training, the content covered, and the social impact achieved.

Burnout is not associated with trainee performance on the Vascular Surgery In-Training Exam

ObjectiveThe Vascular Surgery In-Training Examination (VSITE) is a yearly exam evaluating vascular trainees’ knowledge base. Although multiple studies have evaluated variables associated with exam outcomes, few have incorporated training program-specific metrics. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of the learning environment and burnout on VSITE performance. MethodsData was collected from a confidential, voluntary survey administered after the 2020 to 2022 VSITE as part of the SECOND Trial. VSITE scores were calculated as percent correct then standardized per the American Board of Surgery. Generalized estimating equations with robust standard errors and an independent correlation structure were used to evaluate trainee and program factors associated with exam outcomes. Analyses were further stratified by integrated and independent training paradigms. ResultsA total of 1385 trainee responses with burnout data were collected over 3 years (408 in 2020, 459 in 2021, 498 in 2022). On average, 46% of responses reported at least weekly burnout symptoms. On unadjusted analysis, burnout symptoms correlated with a 14 point drop in VSITE score (95% confidence interval [CI], −24 to −4; P = .006). However, burnout was no longer significant after adjusted analysis. Instead, higher postgraduate year level, being in a relationship, identifying as male gender with or without kids, identifying as non-Hispanic white, larger programs, and having a sense of belonging within a program were associated with higher VSITE scores. ConclusionsDespite high rates of burnout, trainees generally demonstrate resilience in gaining the medical knowledge necessary to pass the VSITE. Performance on standardized exams is associated with trainee and program characteristics, including availability of support systems and program belongingness.
