He obtained his Ph.D. from Tkyo Univrsity in 1951. He has been Professor of Organic Chemistry at Pharmacceutical Institute, Tohoku University, since 1959. He is working on the total synthesis of physiologically active natural products and heterocyclic compounds. He is not only editor of an international journal, Heterocycles, but was also its founder in 1973. He received the Academic Prize of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan in 1969, Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon, “Shiju Hõshõ” in 1979, apan Academy Award, “Nihon Gakushiin Shõ” and Fujihara Prize in 1980.Search for more papers by this authorKeiichiro Fukumoto, Keiichiro Fukumoto Pharmaceutical Institute, Tohoku University, Aobayama, Sendai 980, Japan Keiichiro Fukumoto is an Assistant Professor at Pharmaceutical Institute, Tohoku University. He received his Ph.D. from Osaka University in 1964, and the prize of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan in 1976.
