Synergistic Antibacterial Properties of Silver Nanoparticles and Its Reducing Agent from Cinnamon Bark Extract.

Synthesis of silver nanoparticles with antibacterial properties using a one-pot green approach that harnesses the natural reducing and capping properties of cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) bark extract is presented in this work. Silver nitrate was the sole chemical reagent employed in this process, acting as the precursor salt. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis, and some phytochemical tests demonstrated that cinnamaldehyde is the main component in the cinnamon bark extract. The resulting bio-reduced silver nanoparticles underwent comprehensive characterization by Ultraviolet-Vis (UV-Vis) and Fourier Transform InfraRed spectrophotometry (FTIR), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Transmission Electron Microscopy, and Scanning Electron Microscopy suggesting that cinnamaldehyde was chemically oxidated to produce silver nanoparticles. These cinnamon-extract-based silver nanoparticles (AgNPs-cinnamon) displayed diverse morphologies ranging from spherical to prismatic shapes, with sizes spanning between 2.94 and 65.1 nm. Subsequently, the antibacterial efficacy of these nanoparticles was investigated against Klebsiella, E. Coli, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus aureus, and Acinetobacter strains. The results suggest the promising potential of silver nanoparticles obtained (AgNPs-cinnamon) as antimicrobial agents, offering a new avenue in the fight against bacterial infections.

Phyto-synthesized silver nanoparticles from Sargassum subrepandum: anticancer, antimicrobial, and molluscicidal activities.

In the realm of nanotechnology, the use of algae to produce nanoparticles is an environmentally friendly, sustainable, and economically viable strategy. In the present study, the brown macroalgae Sargassum subrepandum was utilized to effectively produce silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Through various characterization techniques, the AgNPs' structural integrity was confirmed. AgNPs exhibited significant antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Fusarium equiseti. AgNPs showed cytotoxic effects on the MCF-7 breast adenocarcinoma cell line with an IC50 of 12.5 µg/ml. Treatment with AgNPs resulted in a marked reduction in cell viability, alongside evident apoptotic and necrotic morphological changes in the cancer cells. Through molecular docking studies, a deeper understanding of the interaction between AgNPs and crucial proteins related to cancer has been achieved, AgNPs showed a promising molluscicidal action on Biomphalaria alexandrina snails, a Schistosoma mansoni intermediate host. The half-lethal dose (LC50) of AgNPs was determined to be 0.84 mg/L. The potential consequences of its administration include potential disruptions to the glycolysis profile, as well as potential impacts on the steroidal hormone's estrogen and testosterone and certain kidney function tests. This study highlights the diverse uses of algae-synthesized AgNPs, ranging from healthcare to environmental management, demonstrating their importance in advancing nano-biotechnological solutions.

Simple two-step synthesis of Ag/ZnO nanoparticles with enhanced photocatalytic response

This study presents a simple two-step synthesis method for the fabrication of Ag/ZnO nanocomposites to improve the photocatalytic response of ZnO. The synthesis involves ZnO nanoparticles that were fabricated from the thermal decomposition of commercial zinc acetate. In order to produce Ag/ZnO nanoparticles in a simple two-step process, ZnO nanoparticles were mixed with Ag nanoparticle suspensions previously obtained by the laser ablation of solids in liquids technique at three different fluences. Structural characterization of ZnO powders revealed the presence of single phase wurtzite ZnO nanoparticles with crystal sizes of 20 nm. On the other hand, XRD patterns for a composite sample revealed the presence of signals associated to both ZnO and Ag suggesting that silver nanoparticles were attached to the ZnO particles surface. Optical characterization of the ZnO powders, carried out by UV–vis spectroscopy, showed a strong absorption band centered at 380 nm, which is associated to excitonic transitions in ZnO nanoparticles, whilst absorption measurements of silver nanoparticles colloids revealed the presence of a strong band centered near 412 nm. This band shifts to shorter wavelengths with increasing fluence from 2.6 to 6.2 J cm−2, indicating changes in nanoparticles size. Photocatalytic degradation tests of methylene blue under UV irradiation were carried out using pure ZnO, Ag colloids and Ag/ZnO nanoparticles. After the first 30 min of irradiation, it was observed that the silver nanoparticles reached degradation percentages of 16, 22 and 29% for samples synthesized at 2.6, 4.2 and 6.2 J cm−2, respectively. Meanwhile the ZnO sample reached a value of 13% after 30 min. Regarding the Ag/ZnO composite sample, the percentage of degradation after 30 min was 36%, demonstrating a considerable enhanced photocatalytic activity as compared to ZnO. After 24 h irradiation, Ag/ZnO degraded 95% of the methylene blue solution. It was observed that decorating ZnO with laser produced silver nanoparticles accelerates the photocatalytic response of ZnO by enhancing the activity at short times.

Agro-waste mediated silver nanoparticles from Pithecellobium dulce (Roxb.) Benth fruit peel and their multifaceted biomedical applications

The present work aimed to produce silver nanoparticles using an agro-waste fruit peel extract from Pithecellobium dulce (Roxb.) Benth (PD) and examine their antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer characteristics. The synthesized silver nanoparticles (PD-AgNPs) were validated by the characteristic dark brown hue and surface plasmon resonance at 417 nm. Fourier transform infra-red spectrum pinpoints the important functional groups in charge of their reduction and capping. The X-ray diffraction pattern and transmission electron microscopic images confirmed the face-centred cubic crystal structure and spherical-shaped PD-AgNPs. Particle size and stability of the PD-AgNPs were found to be 83.90 and −31.2 mV respectively. Antibacterial experiments against E. coli, K. pneumoniae, B. subtilis, and S. aureus showed concentration-dependent inhibitory effects. In various assays, including those for DPPH, hydroxyl, superoxide anions, and ABT radicals, PD-AgNPs exhibited strong free radical scavenging abilities when compared with vitamin C. In the MTT experiment, PD-AgNPs displayed dose-dependent cytotoxicity against MG-63 cells with an IC50 of 22.09 µg/mL. Additionally, the anticancer potential of PD-AgNPs was studied by measuring mitochondrial membrane potential and apoptosis. The potential of PD-AgNPs for utilization in biomedical applications was established by their antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer characteristics. The study emphasizes the importance of green synthesis methodologies in creating multifunctional nanoparticles with therapeutic potential, which warrants further investigation for practical medical applications.

Chemical fingerprinting, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and anticancer potential of greenly synthesized silver nanoparticles from pistachio (Pistacia vera) nuts and senna (Cassia angustifolia Vahl.) leaves

AbstractThere is a growing interest in standardizing the biocompatible, cost‐effective, and eco‐friendly manufacturing techniques for metallic nanostructures due to their widespread applications in the industrial and medical sectors. In recent decades, green synthesis has been proven as the most suitable technique for synthesizing metal nanoparticles. The present research study investigates the use of Cassia angustifolia (senna) leaves and Pistacia vera (Pistachio) nuts to prepare crude aqueous extracts, ethanolic extracts, and biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The prepared aqueous extracts were used as reducing, stabilizing, and capping agents for the production of silver nanoparticles. These AgNPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy. The outcomes validated the formation of stable AgNPs with bioactive functional components. In vitro antibacterial, anticancer, anti‐inflammatory, and antioxidant potentials were assessed by Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion test, MIC test, MBC test, MTT assay, BSA denaturation inhibition assay, and DPPH antioxidant assay, respectively. Results confirmed that the tested plant extract possesses a variety of bioactive compounds with various biological activities and is therapeutically effective. These findings verified that C. angustifolia and P. vera are promising bioresources for the synthesis of therapeutic extracts and nanostructures with commendable therapeutic potency.

Silver nanoparticles conjugated amoxicillin: A promising nano-suspension for overcoming multidrug resistance bacteria and preservation of endotracheal tube

Growing cases of multi-drug resistance (MRS) among microorganisms pathogenic have rendered antibiotics incompetent. For that reason, present research endeavors are focused on devising ground-breaking solutions to this pressing problem, together with the progression of new antibiotics and the increase of their effectiveness. In our study, we produced silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and antibiotics Amoxicillin (AMO) separately, also, we used a combination of amoxicillin with Ag NPs (AMO@AgNPs) by co-friendly method of Pulsed laser ablation (PLAL). UV/Vi spectrophotometer, XRD, TEM, and FTIR were used to investigate characterizations of Amoxicillin conjugated AgNPs. To evaluated their antibacterial activity, we study activity of silver nanoparticles, Amoxicillin, and their conjugated AMO@AgNPs against two types of human pathogen using a well diffusion method. The results showed AMO @Ag nanoparticles were spherical in shape, with a size distribution between 12 and 97 nm, with an average diameter of 32 nm. Conjugates of AgNPs and amoxicillin have anti-bacterial properties against Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria more than Haemophilus influenzae bacteria. Moreover, the results confirmed that the AMO@AgNPs was more active than either AgNPs alone or Amoxicillin alone. Furthermore, studied on biofilm formation and endotracheal tube effects via AFM thickness measurement evaluation showed properties of AMO@AgNPs in preventing biofilm formation in endotracheal tubes. This study's conclusion emphasizes the creation of Amoxicillin-conjugated silver nanoparticles as a critical strategy for dealing with bacterial strains that are resistant to antibiotics. The study highlights the benefits of AMO-AgNPs as a potentially effective treatment against bacteria. Moreover, our findings suggests that AMO@AgNPs may be useful as breathing tube preservative.

Inshights on antifungal potential of Bryum Argenteum in association with therapeutical clay smectite and silver nanoparticles

This work presents the development of a novel antifungal ternary approach that is eco-friendly, biocompatible, and cost-effective. It consists of Bryum argenteum extract, silver nanoparticles, and healing clay smectite. The research focuses on the green production of silver nanoparticles using an aqueous extract of Bryum argenteum as a stabilizing and reducing agent, as well as the synthesis of clay dispersion and plant extract. The silver nanoparticles were characterized by FTIR, SEM, UV–Vis spectroscopy, and XRD. Using a standard phytochemical screening procedure, the aqueous, ethanolic, and acetonic extracts of Bryum argenteum were subjected to phytochemical screening. Silver nanoparticles and plant extract were evaluated for their antioxidant properties using DPPH scavenging activity at 517 nm. Using the agar well diffusion method, a number of investigations have been conducted on the antifungal potential of the proposed innovative ternary approach against Rhizopus oryzae (R. oryzae) and Aspergillus Niger (A. Niger). The color shift validated the silver nanoparticle generation, and the maximum absorbance at 432.11 nm was observed employing UV–Vis spectroscopy. Several functional groups responsible for the synthesis of AgNPs were identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The particles are spherical in shape, with the range of 10 nm to 50 nm in size. Both ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Bryum argenteum contain sterols, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, and terpenoids. AgNPs have stronger antioxidant activity in comparison to the aqueous extract of Bryum argenteum. Out of all the individual components, AgNPs demonstrated the strongest antifungal activity, with clay and plant extract coming in second and third, respectively. Additionally, their binary composition exhibits a synergistic effect with each combination. However, the ternary combination consisting of smectite clay, Bryum argenteum mediated silver nanoparticles, and Bryum argenteum extract showed exceptional antifungal efficiency against the mentioned fungus species. In respect to the zone of inhibition, the maximal antifungal activity was correlated with concentration and pH. ConclusionIt is concluded here that the proposed ternary system has significant antifungal potential. Future technological and medicinal studies will find this new ternary system to be an invaluable tool.

Beta maritima mediated silver Nanoparticles: Characterization and evaluation of Antibacterial, Antifungal, and antioxidant activities

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are known for their large surface area, which enhances their energy and antimicrobial activity. This study focused on producing silver nanoparticles using leaves from the Beta maritima (vulgaris) plant. Various techniques such as Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) to characterize the synthesized AgNPs. The biologically synthesized AgNPs were then evaluated for their antimicrobial (antibacterial and antifungal) and antioxidant properties using different agents such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2 azobis, 3-ethyl benzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS), and phosphomolybdate. The results showed that the AgNPs exhibited strong antifungal activity, particularly against fluconazole-resistant strains of Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus, with a 61 % inhibition rate. Moreover, the AgNPs demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against various strains. At a concentration of 40 µg/mL, they exhibited 26 % inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus, 22 % against Micrococcus luteus, 18 % against E. coli, and 24 % against Klebsiella pneumonia, outperforming clarithromycin antibiotics. SEM analysis revealed spherical AgNPs, sized using nano measurer 1.2, EDX showed the presence of silver having composition at 80.38 %, and XRD confirmed a face-centered cubic crystalline structure. In addition to their characterization, the AgNPs also displayed strong antioxidant activity. At the same concentration, they showed percentages of 80.78 % (DPPH), 85.38 % (H2O2), 81.78 % (ABTS), and 80.66 % (phosphomolybdate), surpassing the antioxidant activity of the plant leaf extract alone. The synthesis of AgNPs using the extract of the Beta maritima (vulgaris) plant offers several advantages compared to other methods, including ease of handling, cost-effectiveness, wide availability, and eco-friendliness.

Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Properties of Distinct Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized by Green Synthesis

Nanoparticles are materials that can be used in a wide range from medicine to industry. In recent years, especially the fruits, flowers, leaves, and roots of plants have come to the fore in nanoparticle synthesis because they are environmentally friendly and economical. Rosa damascena is a plant that is used both in foods such as jams, desserts, and beverages, and in many cosmetic products such as perfumes, creams, and lotions due to its pleasant smell and taste. In addition to its pleasant taste and aroma, valuable bioactive components are among the main uses of these flowers. Berberis crataegina fruit is a wild shrub fruit that can be consumed by humans but is unknown to many. This study aims to examine the antibacterial and antioxidant properties of silver nanoparticles produced from Rosa damascena flowers and Berberis crataegina fruits, both of which are rich in anthocyanins. For this, first of all, the produced silver nanoparticles were evaluated using SEM and SEM EDX. In addition, the size and properties of the nanoparticle were defined by performing XRD and FTIR analyses. In addition, antimicrobial, and antioxidant analyses analyses of these nanoparticles were performed. As a result, two different silver nanoparticles with high antioxidant properties were synthesized from both. However, nanoparticles synthesized from R. damascena flower showed more antimicrobial activity than nanoparticles synthesized from Berberis crataegina fruit.

Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles from Extract of Epiphytic Shrub Leaves (Ficus heteropleura Blume) on Oil Palm Plant and Evaluation of Their Antibacterial Activity Against Escherichia coli

Silver nanoparticles are silver metal particles with a size of less than 100 nm. Extract of epiphytic shrub leaves (Ficus heteropleura Blume) serves as a bioreductant in producing silver nanoparticles, which are utilized for their antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli. This study aims to synthesize silver nanoparticles and assess their activity against Escherichia coli. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using the green synthesis method with Ficus heteropleura leaf extract with silver nitrate (AgNO3). AgNPs were synthesized using a 1 mM solution of AgNO3 and different concentrations (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10%) of Ficus heteropleura extract. The AgNPs were characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, and PSA. UV-Vis analysis revealed that AgNPs at concentrations ranging from 2% to 10% exhibited absorbance peaks within the wavelength range of 201.2–473.5 nm. FTIR analysis identified functional groups such as OH, CH, C=C, C≡C, C≡N, and CO, which played a role in reducing silver nanoparticles. The size distribution of AgNPs was determined, with AgNPs synthesized at a concentration of 6% exhibiting a size range of 1–100 nm, constituting 40.77% of the total. For AgNPs synthesized at concentrations of 8% and 10%, the percentage of nanoparticles in the 1–100 nm size range was found to be 26.845% and 1.28%, respectively. The antibacterial activity of AgNPs at concentrations of 6% and 8% against Escherichia coli demonstrated moderate effectiveness.

Single and Combined Effects of Phenanthrene and Silver Nanoparticles on Denitrification Processes in Coastal Marine Sediments.

The increasing production and utilization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and commercial silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have raised concerns about their potential environmental release, with coastal sediments as a substantial sink. To better understanding the effects of these contaminants on denitrification processes in coastal marine sediments, a short-term exposure simulation experiment was conducted. We investigated the effects of single and combined contamination of phenanthrene (Phe) and AgNPs on denitrification processes in a coastal marine sediment. Results showed that all contaminated treatment groups had different degrees of inhibitory effect on denitrification activity, denitrifying enzyme activity, total bacteria count and denitrifying genes. The inhibitory effect sequence of each treatment group was combined treatment > AgNPs treatment > Phe treatment. Moreover, the inhibitory effects of denitrifying genes were much larger than that of total bacteria count, indicating that the pollutants had specific toxic effects on denitrifying bacteria. The sequence of sensitivity of three reduction process to pollutants was N2O > NO2- > NO3-. All contaminated treatment groups could increase NO3-, NO2- and N2O accumulation. Furthermore, according to the linear relationship between functional gene or reductase and denitrification process, we also found that the abundance of denitrifying genes could better predict the influence of Phe and AgNPs on sediment denitrification than the denitrifying bacterial diversity. In addition, at the genus level, the community structure of nirS- and nosZ-type denitrifying bacteria changed dramatically, while changes at the phylum level were comparatively less pronounced. Single and combined contamination of Phe and AgNPs could reduce the dominance of Pseudomonas, which may lead to a potential slow-down in the degradation of Phe and inhibition of denitrification, especially the combined contamination. Overall, our study revealed that combined contamination of Phe and AgNPs could lead to an increase in NO3-, NO2- and N2O accumulation in coastal sediment, which poses a risk of eutrophication in coastal areas, exacerbates the greenhouse effect and has adverse effects on global climate change.

An evaluation of antimicrobial potency of silver nanoparticles synthesised from Fusarium sp.

Biological synthesis of metal nanoparticles has caught the interest of scientists due to the environment friendly synthesis approach which yields metallic nanoparticles with antimicrobial potency. In the present study silver nanoparticles were produced using a green method with the assistance of Fusarium sp. fungal cell filtrate and their antimicrobial potency was explored. The silver nanoparticles depicted a surface plasma resonance of 434 nm when run in the Ultra Violet–Visible Spectrophotometer. The functional group present in the nanoparticles were investigated using an Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared where –OH, C–H, amide I and amide II functional groups were notable. The morphology and crystallinity of the produced silver nanoparticles was investigated with the help of a Scanning Electron Microscope and X-ray Diffraction. The X-ray diffraction results revealed that the nanoparticles were crystalline in nature with a face centred cubic structure and a crystallite size of 38.5 nm. The Scanning Electron Microscope revealed that the nanoparticles were spherical with sizes ranging between 3 to 43 nm. Antimicrobial studies of the synthesised silver nanoparticles were conducted at different concentrations (1 mM, 10 mM, 20 mM and 100 mM) against disease causing microorganisms Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the results showed that at a concentration of 1 mM there was no inhibition but as the concentration was increased to 20 mM and 100 mM, there was a notable inhibition with the maximum inhibition zone being 17 ± 0.6 mm.

UV-assisted green synthesis of silver nanoparticles and their characterizations

Silver nanoparticles are receiving discernible attention because of their potential applications in different fields of science and technology. However, chemical synthesis methods leave behind harmful byproducts. Here, we report an alternative method for the rapid synthesis of silver nanoparticles through radiation-assisted green synthesis. Aqueous leaf extract of Ocimum sanctum is used as a reducing and stabilizing agent with silver nitrate solution under UV-B irradiation. UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) collectively revealed that bio reduced silver nanoparticles were polydisperse, polycrystalline, spherical in shape, had an average diameter of 40.1 nm, and were stable more than six months. These observations suggest that radiation-assisted green synthesis is a quick and eco-friendly method for the large-scale production of stable silver nanoparticles without any harmful byproducts.

A systematic review on green synthesis of silver nanoparticles, characterization and applications

The increasing demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable synthesis methods has prompted the exploration of green routes for the production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). This study focuses on the green synthesis of AgNPs from different plants and microbes. The article indicated successful formation of stable AgNPs with well-defined characteristics. The eco-friendly synthesis approach ensures antimicrobial activities of the green-synthesized AgNPs, including bacteria and fungi. The mode of action of the nanoparticles on microbial cells were also investigated, shedding light on their potential as novel antimicrobial agents. Furthermore, the versatility of these green-synthesized AgNPs was explored in different applications, such as biomedical, agricultural, and environmental sectors. Moreover, the environmental implications of utilizing these eco-friendly nanoparticles were assessed, highlighting their potential in addressing contemporary challenges.

Biogenic silver nanoparticles of Moringa oleifera leaf extract: Characterization and photocatalytic application

Abstract The current study proposed a novel simple and environmentally friendly approach for producing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using an extract of Moringa oleifera leaves (MOL) and optimizing the different experimental factors required for the formation and stability of AgNPs. The formation of nanoparticles was confirmed by a color change from yellow to reddish-brown with a surface plasmon resonance band at 412 nm. The morphology, size, and elemental composition of AgNPs were investigated by zeta potential dynamic light scattering, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy analysis, which showed crystalline and spherical AgNPs. The identification of functional groups was supported by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of AgNPs were assessed in the degradation of organic Malachite green (MG) dye in the aqueous solution. Two kinetic adsorption models, the pseudo-first-order model and the pseudo-second-order model, and three isotherm models, the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin, were used to mathematically characterize the MG degradation process. The pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Freundlich isotherm model were found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. As a result of their synergistic interaction with the MOL extract solution, the photocatalytic activity of AgNPs increases and they can successfully adapt to the photodegradation of organic dyes in industrial effluents.

Bacteria-mediated green synthesis of silver nanoparticles and their antifungal potentials against Aspergillus flavus.

The best biocontroller Bacillus subtilis produced silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with a spherical form and a 62 nm size through green synthesis. Using UV-vis spectroscopy, PSA, and zeta potential analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the properties of synthesized silver nanoparticles were determined. Silver nanoparticles were tested for their antifungicidal efficacy against the most virulent isolate of the Aspergillus flavus fungus, JAM-JKB-BHA-GG20, and among the 10 different treatments, the treatment T6 [PDA + 1 ml of NP (19: 1)] + Pathogen was shown to be extremely significant (82.53%). TG-51 and GG-22 were found to be the most sensitive groundnut varieties after 5 and 10 days of LC-MS QTOF infection when 25 different groundnut varieties were screened using the most toxic Aspergillus flavus isolate JAM- JKB-BHA-GG20, respectively. In this research, the most susceptible groundnut cultivar, designated GG-22, was tested. Because less aflatoxin (1651.15 g.kg-1) was observed, treatment T8 (Seed + Pathogen + 2 ml silver nanoparticles) was determined to be much more effective. The treated samples were examined by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry for the detection of metal ions and the fungicide carbendazim. Ag particles (0.8 g/g-1) and the fungicide carbendazim (0.025 g/g-1) were found during Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry analysis below detectable levels. To protect plants against the invasion of fungal pathogens, environmentally friendly green silver nanoparticle antagonists with antifungal properties were able to prevent the synthesis of mycotoxin by up to 82.53%.

Silver Nanoparticles as Antiviral and Antibacterial Agents: A Comprehensive Review of Synthesis Methods and Therapeutic Application

AbstractSilver nanoparticles have shown inhibitory capabilities and its use in battling viral infections are strengthened by its potent antibacterial activity. Notably, since it directly affects antiviral efficacy, the proper choice of synthesis process for making silver nanoparticles is a vital element to be taken into consideration. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles for the treatment of viral and bacterial infections involves creating silver particles at the nanoscale with unique antimicrobial properties. Various methods exist for synthesizing silver nanoparticles, including chemical reduction, green synthesis, and physical methods. Chemical reduction involves using reducing agents to convert silver ions into silver nanoparticles. Green synthesis employs reducing agents in an environmentally friendly manner. Physical methods rely on techniques such as laser ablation or thermal evaporation to produce silver nanoparticles. In order to provide technological guidance for choosing antiviral silver nanoparticle manufacturing methods, this paper introduces and explores alternative synthesis methods for creating silver nanoparticles.

Synthesis characterization and application of butyl acrylate mediated eco-friendly silver nanoparticles using ultrasonic radiation

In the present investigation, with an effort to provide appropriate material for future applications, we have touched on two viable advancement targets: the production of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) employing an ultrasonic approach and the use of Ag-NPs in environmental remediation. A green economical method was involved to prepare Ag-NPs using butyl acrylate as a stabilizer. The following techniques were used for analysing Ag-NPs: energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transformed infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis for the lattice characteristics showed that Ag-NPs have a face-centered structure with an average crystallite size of 9.51–11.83 nm. FE-SEM and TEM analysis were used for morphological investigations, and revealed that Ag-NPs had a spherical shape with an average particle size of 16.27 nm. The EDX profile displayed a strong signal at ∼3.0 keV, which indicated that the samples comprised silver. UV–Visible spectrophotometer with the absorption maximum occurring between 401 and 411 nm further confirmed the formation of Ag-NPs. The dye degradation effect of synthesized Ag-NPs on methylene blue and Rhodamine B was analyzed to assess their ability for environmental remediation, and results showed that around 100% of the dye degradation effect. This study has provided a most plausible mechanism for the dye degradation.

Synthesis and characterization of n-isopropylacrylamide based copolymers with silver nanoparticles

In recent years, the so-called "smart" polymers, which can systematically respond to small environmental changes, such as pH, temperature and electric field, are widely used in many fields. Researchers are particularly interested in using drugs to transport to the right place in the human body. One of the types of these smart polymers are thermosensitive polymers. Among the thermosensitive polymers, the most well-known are homo- and copolymers based on N-isopropylacrylamide. In the research work, in order to improve the properties of thermosensitive polymers, silver nanoparticles were added to the hydrogel composition. Hydrogels based on N-isopropylacrylamide and 2-hydroxyethylacrylate monomers were synthesized by radical polymerization in solution (in H2O and AgNO3 solution). While the production of silver nanoparticles is based on the redox (by NaBH4 solution) mechanism, the formation of these nanoparticles in the gel was carried out by diffusion. While the introduction of silver nanoparticles into the gel was controlled by ultraviolet spectroscopy, its inclusion in the gel was confirmed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Meanwhile, a hydrogel containing silver nanoparticles exhibits antibacterial properties, it was investigated using biomedical tests. It has been shown here that a hydrogel containing silver has good antibacterial properties, whereas a hydrogel without silver does not have the ability to destroy bacteria.

Synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles from Cocos nucifera L. male flowers: An investigation into their potent antibacterial and anticancer efficacy

The current research focused on the production of silver nanoparticles using dichloro methane-mediated Cocos nucifera male flower extract and their minimum inhibitory concentration against ten different bacterial pathogens. C. nucifera male flowers were extracted by 100% DCM, and the phytochemicals present in this extract were studied. These plant phytochemicals act as reducing agents to reduce the silver nitrate (AgNO3) to silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) which was confirmed by UV/Vis spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infra-red spectrum, X-ray diffraction analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The 15 µL of silver nanoparticles was the minimum inhibitory concentration for Klebsiella pneumonia and Bacillus subtilis. The 20 µL of silver nanoparticles is the MIC for Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Vibrio harveyi, and Plesiomonas shigelloides. 30 µL of plant flower extract concentration highly inhibits the E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella paratyphi, Vibrio mimicus, and Vibrio alginolyticus bacterial pathogens. C. nucifera male flowers extract derived silver nanoparticles are highly stable and have high potential activity against MCF-7 Cell line.
