Some New Zealand parasitic Copepoda of the family Pandaridae

Summary The 723 copepods from 42 sharks captured in New Zealand waters belong to seven genera and 11 species of the family Pandaridae. Of these, Nesippus borealis (St. and Lut.), recorded for the first time from a host fish, Dinemoura latifolia St. and Lut., D. producta (Muller), Phyllothyreus cornutus (Milne‐Edwards), Pandarus cranchii Leach, and Echthrogaleus coleoptratus (Guerin) are widespread species. Pandarus bicolor Leach, Nesippus orientalis Heller, and Perissopus dentatus St. and Lut. are each recorded from the Pacific for the second time, and the last two may be restricted to warmer waters. Demoleus latus Shiino and Echthrogaleus braccatus (Dana) are respectively recorded for the second and third time only and may be restricted to the western Pacific. The hitherto unknown hydroid of the anthomedusaBougainvillia principishas been found in the Firth of Clyde, and medusae from it have been reared. The hydroid and the stages of development of the medusa are described and figured. The medusa is commonly present in the plankton in this area, and its seasonal occurrence is described.The historical development of our knowledge ofB. principisand ofB. superciliaris, which have been confused, is discussed. TRINUCLEID TRILOBITES FROM THE HIGHER DUFTON SHALES OF THE CARADOC SERIES IN THE CROSS FELL INLIER

Summary Five trinucleid trilobites, belonging to the genera Onnia and Tretaspis, are described and figured from the higher beds of the Dufton Shales. Three are given new specific or subspecific names; the fourth is compared with Tretaspis ceriodes (Angelin), and the fifth, referred to an Irish form of similar age, is held to be a probable synonym of Tretaspis moeldenensis Cave, described originally from South Wales.

Probable synonyms include two other genera of the Sporobolomycetaceae, Tilletiopsis and Sporidiobolus, and the proposed but invalid genus Entylomella (representing conidial states of Entyloma and other smut fungi). The isolates of Itersonilia responsible for leafspot and canker of parsnip, Pastinaca sativa L., in the United States are considered to represent I. perplexans Derx.

A Catalogue of the Protozoa and Helminths of North American Rodents. I. Protozoa and Acanthocephala

distribution records of the protozoa and helminths reported from North American rodents (Order Rodentia). The most recent catalogue of this type covering all of the rodent genera is that of Harkema (1936). Because interest in the parasitic fauna of rodents has increased rapidly since that time, and since the writer is privileged to have access, to the Index-Catalogue of Medical and Veterinary Zoology, Animal Disease and Parasite Research Branch, it seemed desirable to gather together once again the many widely dispersed records for the benefit of those working in the field. This catalogue covers references through 1952 and includes only natural infections of rodents occurring in continental North America. It does not include records from hamsters, guinea pigs, or rodents in. Zoological Parks that were obtained from localities outside North America. However, it does include reports concerning rodents in Zoological Parks that were obtained from localities within North America and these are indicated as such with an asterisk (*). The common laboratory white rat land white mouse are referred to as Rattus norvegicus albus and Mus musculus albus, respectively. No locality records are listed for these two hosts. Locality records concerning olther hosts are listed except when the locality is not known or when merely reported as occurring in North America. Numbers in parentheses immediately followinfg distribution records refer to bibliographical entries. Many of the parasite names which are numbered and listed in alphabetical order are no longer recognized. There appears to be considerable difference of opinion regarding the status of others. Names with which certain of the entries have been reported as synonymous are listed in brackets followed by the authority or authorities (number in parentheses). When no authority is given, the person making a new combination is considered the authority. No new combinations have been made. However, in certain instances the writer has indicated probable synonyms not mentioned in the literature with an italicized question mark in parentheses (?). This is to be distinguished from a question mark lacking it-alics which indicates that uncertainty was expressed by another author. Host names are listed as they appear in the literature except that ssp. has been added when the species consists of a number of subspecies and the subspecies has not been designated. Host names not commonly accepted are listed in brackets immediately following the name commonly accepted. The Identity and Generic Position of Chauliodes disjunctus Walker (Megaloptera: Corydalidae)

Walker (1866) described Chauliodes disjunctus on the basis of a single female from Vancouver Island. Davis (1903) identified males and females from California as belonging to this species and noted that the male antennae were pilose and as long as the head and thorax combined. Supposing Davis' observation to have been based on a broken specimen, van der Weele (1910) referred C. disjunctus to Neohermes Banks, 1908, as a close ally and probable synonym of Neohermes californicus (Walker), a species in the male of which the antennae are as long as the body and are provided with segmental whorls of long hair.

A review of the species of Dinobothrium (Cestoda) with a description of a new species.

A critical review is presented of the species of Dinobothrium and their probable synonyms. D. septaria v. Beneden and D. planum Linton are accepted as valid species. D. keilini Sproston and D. plicitum Linton are regarded as of doubtful status, the former being probably a synonym of D. septaria, while D. plicitum may be a synonym of D. planum. The type-specimens of D. keilini and of D. paciferum Sproston have been re-examined. A new interpretation is offered of the structure of the scolex of D. paciferum, and some other details of its anatomy are redescribed. A small species from Cetorhinus maximus is described, which is very similar to, and may prove to be identical with, Dinobothrium paciferum. As it apparently differs in having the neck and parts of the bothria covered with spines, it is treated as a distinct species and named D. spinosum. The question of the specific identity of the known larval forms of Dinobothrium is briefly discussed.
