EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH AIRWAVES: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF WOMEN-CENTRIC PROGRAMMING ON ALL INDIA RADIO AND MY FM 94.3

Radio, which is called the medium of sound, is actually working like a magic into listeners ears the reason is voice, presentation, language, tone of the artists and its content. Radio is the most important program content that engages the audience and has always been working to create awareness and educate the society. There has been an old relationship between radio and women. Radio has been broadcasting programs for women for many years, but with time there have been many changes in the program content, through which we have tried to know what kind of content the radio channels are now broadcasting for women. Are they relevant to women empowerment? or their main objective just to entertain? For the study, we have selected a private radio channel (94.3 MY FM) and a public radio channel (All India Radio). To know about women empowerment content, we have included women centric programs of both the channels for the study. The study area is city of lakes Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh). This is the one-week radio shows study in which researcher has recorded one-week women-based radio shows on mobile phone. We have analyzed the study content very deeply. The researcher also tried to know how much time slot they are giving for women centric shows. As well as to know what the difference between the two is, for which we have used a comparative study methodology to get better results.

Good Morning Young People: Geronimo Fm Radio's Efforts To Maintain Existence In Generation Z


 
 
 
 Geronimo FM is a radio that was established in 1971. It was the first national private radio in Yogyakarta that not only became a music barometer, but also provided various information about the world of entertainment, arts and culture and the lifestyle of young people. Nowadays, almost all people including generation z rarely listen to radio. Thus, the researcher examines the efforts of Geronimo FM radio in maintaining its existence in generation z. Therefore, the purpose of this research is so that generation z can regain interest in radio. The research method used is qualitative method. For data collection techniques, this research explains the results based on participant observation, semi-structured interviews with the main source Leila Karina, supporting sources Pamungkas Kusuma Sakti, and finally documentation. Furthermore, for data analysis using data reduction by selecting data, data display, and conclusions. The results of the study explain that Geronimo FM's efforts to maintain their existence in the decline in the number of listeners, especially in generation z through the Good Morning Youngste program, namely generating (Attention) by creating content, growing (Interest) by curating the selection of info, generating (Desire) by creating an activity, doing (Decision) by collaborating with digital media and doing (Action) by finding out what trends are being discussed by generation z, so that generation z has a sense of interest in radio again.
 
 
 

Regional public subsidies for the media in Spain: amounts, beneficiaries and impact on income statements

This article analyses public subsidies for the media awarded by Spain’s autonomous communities in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020. The aim is to establish the amounts and the number of beneficiaries, as well as what such subsidies represent as a proportion of the main beneficiaries’ operating incomes. To that end, 38 calls for applications for subsidies issued by nine autonomous communities were analysed, as were their respective decisions. The total amounts, the itemised subsidies received by each media outlet, and the three main beneficiaries per call have been identified. For the main beneficiaries, the subsidies as a proportion of their operating incomes have been calculated. It is concluded that the press sector received the largest volume of subsidies but is not very financially dependent on them. However, many examples of private radio and television outlets whose activities are maintained by public funding were observed. In the audiovisual sector, it was found that public subsidies represented more than 20% of some beneficiary’s total declared income, and even up to 50% in some cases.

Jejaring Radio Swasta Sebagai Inovasi Merebut Pasar

In line with the growth of digital technology, according to Nielsen's survey (2020), 67 percent of netizen listening to music or radio through sharing platforms of social media such as YouTube and Dailymotion. However, the existence of analog based commercial radio remains unchanged. Nielsen's survey finds the tendency of the millennial generation to listen to the radio increased, especially during weekend. To prove the Nielsen’ finding, this article tries to uncover the strategy of private radio in attracting their listeners by offering network system in their broadcasting service. By using qualitative methods, this study compares the characteristics of the networked radio stations, namely KBR radio and Etnikom radio network, and their endeavor to maintain the network. The research shows that KBR is more focused on news network, while Etnikom is more tended to the ownership network. Broadcast Journalism of Private Radio in Cirebon, Indonesia, in the Convergence Era

Convergence is a deep integration of knowledge, tools, and all relevant areas of human activities. As an inevitable condition, convergence has also changed a lot of aspects of mass media at the international, national, and local levels. This study elaborates how the local radios in Cirebon, namely Sindangkasih FM, Suara Gratia FM, and Cirebon Radio, are adapting to the convergence culture. This study seeks to demonstrate how the convergence culture can affect private broadcast media, which are not in the epicentrum of media in Indonesia. This study indicates that these three private radios in Cirebon have tried to adapt to the convergence culture in minimally three aspects, namely structural, information coverage, and news presentation or storytelling convergence. The structural convergence happened at the organizational structure of the radio, in which more direct and fluid coordination in the newsgathering and writing processes is applied. At the news coverage level, reporters and scriptwriters are responsible for managing news content for old radio broadcasts and new online media as well. At the news presentation level, the news is not only broadcasted but also reported on new online channels, such as websites and social media. These convergences have further created a more convergent newsroom, including integrating journalism workflows, applying multiskilled journalism and resource sharing, using various technological tools, creating interactivity with the audience, and expanding the audience reach. Analysis of the Influence of Information and Communication Technologies on News Processing, Reporting and Dissemination on Private Radio Stations in Nigeria: Sun Rays 103.1 FM, Korinya City in Focus.

Information and Communication technologies is considered to be a driving force to be reckoned with in the 21st century because it has caused and continues to cause major changes in the way we live. In the electronic media, ICTs has ignited and provoked radical and drastic changes that has affected and revolutionized the broadcast industry, most especially in immediacy and timeliness of news. With Information and Communication Technologies, information spread, infinitely becomes faster and cheaper and readily available. This study attempts to analyze the influence of information and communication technologies in news processing and reporting on private broadcast stations in Nigeria with emphasis on Sun Rays FM, Korinya City. The Research Design employed is the descriptive survey design. Three research questions were formulated for the study. The population for the study consisted of 380 respondents. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for gathering data for the study. Data collected were analyzed using frequency tables and simple percentage. This study uncovered some of the numerous benefits and challenges associated with the use of ICTs in news processing in broadcast industry. This study concludes that ICTs have created opportunities for widespread electronic and timely delivery of news. Furthermore, not only are there technology barriers that news organizations need to overcome to deliver news electronically, but there are also problems of employee attitudes toward new technologies and resistance to change. The implication of the use ICTs to broadcast stations might lead to an overall shrink in the need for human correspondents.

STRATEGI PR RADIO DAHLIA DALAM MENGHADAPI PERSAINGAN DI ERA INDUTRI 4.0

The 4.0 industrial revolution requires humans to be able to use and take advantage ofexisting technology. The mass media Radio cannot stand by the conventional model. Radio Dahlia FM Bandung is a private radio in the city of Bandung which still exists today and is able to compete amidst tight competitors, this cannot be separated from the role of public relations as a liaison between the company and the public. This study aims to determine the planning of a public relations strategy for Radio Dahlia FM Bandung in facing competition in the industrial era 4.0. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study Public Relations Radio Dahlia FM Bandung carried out four stages in facing competition in the industrial era 4.0. What has been done by PR includes fact finding, planning, communication and evaluating. Planning for Dahlia radio PR activities, namely by branding activities through the On Air, Off Air program and social media, creating internal events, sponsorship collaboration events and special events, and making dahlia streaming radio innovations, and being more active in social media. In introducing the innovation of streaming radio, dahlia has considered the main elements of innovation diffusion, such as innovation, communication channels, time and social systems.

Local language programs in cultural radios to maintain Indonesian national identity

Private radio, which relies on programs with local cultural content in local languages, affects the success of reaching large audiences and financial benefits. In East Java, four private radios have the advantage of local cultural programs, namely Radio Jodhipati FM in Nganjuk, Radio Sritanjung FM in Banyuwangi, Radio Nada FM Sumenep, and Radio Media FM in Surabaya. This study aims to determine what cultural programs can increase the number of listeners and profitability on the four cultural radios. Furthermore, to find out why listeners like local cultural programs of each radio. This research on broadcast content on four cultural radios uses virtual ethnographic methods by collecting data, both offline and online. Researchers are involved in broadcasting activities on four cultural radios (offline) and listener interaction activities in the virtual world (online), namely Facebook and WhatsApp. This study conducted interviews with twelve informants representing radio management, local cultural figures, and loyal listeners. The results showed that each radio has excellent cultural programs with a solid appeal to maintain listener loyalty. The four cultural radios involve cultural experts in designing cultural programs. Listeners try to maintain local tastes because they realize that love for local culture is a strengthening of national identity, which is the richness of Indonesian culture.

Komercijalni privatni radiji dominiraju hrvatskim radijskim krajolikom. Razvijali su se od sredine 90-ih godina, od čega se posljednjih 15 godina sustavno financiraju javnim sredstvima iz Fonda za poticanje pluralizma i raznovrsnosti elektroničkih medija. Rad problematizira hrvatsku medijsku politiku koja je proteklih godina u cijelosti zanemarila razvoj neprofitne i javne radiodifuzije, prepuštajući medijski razvoj zemlje tržišnim instrumentima i komercijalnim sadržajima. Recentna istraživanja pokazuju da se ta vrsta radijskih programa doživljava kao jednolična glazbena kulisa koja gubi povjerenje slušatelja. Rad otvara pitanje daljnjeg razvoja hrvatskoga medijskog sustava pri čemu istaknutu ulogu imaju institucije koje su odgovorne za njegovo oblikovanje.

Determinants of Language Attitudes of Elshinta Semarang Radio News Broadcasters and Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Pro 1 Semarang

The reality in the media world today is that apart from RRI and TVRI, private radio and television are also very concerning in their role as the coach of the Indonesian language. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that tend to influence the attitude of the news announcers Radio Elshinta Semarang and RRI Pro 1 Semarang. This research design uses descriptive qualitative. The data collection method used was the observation method. The data collection technique in this study was a record and note technique. The instrument in this study was the researcher himself. Data collection tools used were data collection guides and data cards. Miles and Huberman's data analysis model was used in this study. Based on the results of data analysis, internal factors that affect the language attitudes of news announcers Radio Elshinta Semarang and Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) pro 1 Semarang are language mastery factors (cognitive component), other language mastery factors (language contact), preference factors (affective component) and language ideology factor (language belief). The results of this study provide theoretical and practical advantages. The benefits of this study can produce concepts regarding language attitudes in order to enhance sociolinguistic scientific treasures and help understanding sociolinguistic studies, especially in relation to language attitudes and can be a guide for news broadcasters to be able to be positive in speaking in public spaces.

MERCHANDISE DESIGN AS PT RADIO CHANDRA TARUNA PROMOTION

Radio is one of the information media that is a daily food by the community. The existence of radio in people's lives certainly cannot be separated from the function of radio as a medium of information and for entertainment. In Semarang, there are a lot of private radios present to entertain entertainment and information, one of them is Chandra Taruna Radio (RCT FM) which is a seasoned radio in Semarang City. This radio is in the Bukitsari Region, Banyumanik, Semarang. In Semarang there are a lot of radio competitors who are competitors of Radio Chandra Taruna (RCT FM) itself. So there needs to be an effort, to build a corporate image and listener loyalty so that listeners can faithfully listen to RCT FM and attract potential advertisers on this radio. The aim of this study project is to produce a merchandise design, which illustrates the elements of the merchandise design that illustrates the role of RCT FM as a radio that provides information and entertainment. So that it can increase the attractiveness of prospective listeners and prospective advertisers and increase the loyalty of old listeners. The process of designing merchandise through several stages of the process of creating the sequence of pre-production processes, production processes, and post-production processes. ANALISIS TINDAK TUTUR EKSPRESIF RADIO PRAMBORS PROGRAM SAPA MANTAN

By acting speech we can know what response is later expressed by the reviewer through direct or indirect contact. An indirect example of one is visible when radio broadcasters make contact with listeners through the phone. One of the private radio in Indonesia that is very popular by the listener (kawula muda) has a program that contains the former segment Sapa. This research has a purpose to demonstrate the follow-up speech in the former Sapaprogram. In this analysis , the results stated that the expressive follow-up showed an expressive form between listeners and hearers then radio broadcasters as mediums in the radio prambors.

THE MOST TUNING RADIO FREQUENCIES AMONG TAMIL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS COMMUNITY: A USERS AND GRATIFICATION STUDY ON THE RADIO AUDIENCE

This exploratory study begins by attaining general knowledge about a group of students pertaining to their listening habits while applying uses and gratifications theory and then attempts to gauge whether or not the station meets student preferences. Of the 100 total participants, study in Trincomalee campus thus becoming the target audience for this study. To achieve objectives of this study, survey method has been used for data collection. A questionnaire was distributed among 100 respondents. Findings revealed that majority (90%) of the respondents listen to radio programmes and they prefer to listen to radio at any convenient time (33%), the respondents do listen radio channels mostly through mobile phones (65%), majority of the respondents do listen private radio channels (92.5%), the respondents mostly listen to Shakthi FM (46%), and respondents mostly listen to musical programmes (47%).

Deconstructing the Menace: Use of Fake Accent on Private Radio Stations in Nigeria

Media scholars, veteran broadcasters and the public have been expressing divergent concerns over the proliferation of fake accent on the Nigerian media waves, particularly on private radio stations. This phenomenon has been tagged a menace, creating false assimilations and strains on the semantic inclines of listeners particularly middle aged Nigerians and the older generation. This paper adopts the Uses and Gratification Theory to discuss the use of fake accent by analysing the presentation styles of On Air Personalities on Cool FM and Soundcity Radio Stations in the country. These Radio stations record very high number of listenership and findings revealed that many radio presenters equate the radio format of their stations to the reason they adopt the use of fake accent and that the ability to speak with a foreign accent is seen as a major criterion for getting a media job in Nigeria. The paper stresses the importance of speaking right through the adoption of features of connected speech as presented by notable media organizations and certified institutions saddled with the responsibility of teaching and training non-native speakers of the English Language. It concludes by encouraging media professionals to appreciate the uniqueness of the Nigerian media and cultural terrain.

STRATEGI KAMPANYE PERSATUAN RADIO SIARAN SWASTA NASIONAL INDONESIA (PRSSNI) DALAM MEMPERKUAT POSITIONING RADIO (Studi Kasus Pada Kampanye PRSSNI bertajuk “Siaran Terakhir”)

In today’s digital era, public attention has shifted into digital media in their activities. Digital era has made most of the industries being disrupted, without exception the mass media industries, not only print, but also radio and television. Many advertisers or brands look at digital channels to campaign and leave conventional channels such as radio and print media as the media. Based on these conditions, radio needs to make a positioning strategy. The importance of positioning strategies brings developments for radio stations that are trying to increase their positions in the market with their listeners. The Indonesian National Private Broadcast Radio Association (PRSSNI) which accommodates all private radios in Indonesia, especially DKI Jakarta, organizes a Public Relations campaign titled Siaran Terakhir on the Radio Day activities series with Hastag #Radioguemati. The method used in this study is a case study method that is a research method that uses various data sources used to examine, describe and explain comprehensively the various aspects of individuals, groups, programs, organizations or events systematically. The conclusion shows that the campaign strategy of the Indonesian National Private Broadcast Radio Association (PRSSNI) through a campaign with hastag #radioguemati proved to be able to strengthen the radio positioning, so that the radio stations still have a wide area in the hearts of their listeners.

News Media Logic and Democracy: Strange Bedfellows in Political News-making Practices of Private Radio Stations in Ghana

ABSTRACTAlthough radio has historically been the most widespread media in Ghana and much of Africa, little is known about its news-making practices in political news. Given the rise of mediated politics in an emerging democracy like Ghana, radio's role in enabling communication between political actors and citizens has grown even more pertinent. Drawing on news media logic, described as the imperatives which guide news production, this paper investigates political news production practices through analysis of 17 semi-structured interviews of Ghanaian journalists, politicians and civil society experts. It reveals an emerging trend in political journalism where Ghanaian private radio stations are fast adopting news media logic, characterised by a commercialisation and lack of professionalism, both identified as detrimental to democracy. These practices raise concerns about the media's power in excluding certain political views which do not conform to its logic, thereby providing audiences with a limited reality of the political space. If the sustenance of democracy partly lies on the media providing citizens with accurate information that reflects the range of actors in politics, then attention needs to be paid to these production practices which present limited political content to citizens.

Reformulasi Regulasi Radio Komunitas di Indonesia

Community Radio (CR) in Indonesia has emerged as a media that able to disseminate information to audience. Since this function can not be fullfiled by both private and public radios, CR is important for audience especially for those who lives in remote or even blank spot area. However, Government regulation on CR is feared to deprive the existence of CR. The regulation ranging from limitation of frequency allocation, criteria on coverage area and limited emmitance strength compare to public and private radios. This imply that the Government has never supported the existence of Community Radio. Government and Indonesia Broadcasting Commistion (KPI), as the powerful bodies, ought to reevaluate broadcasting regulation especially on Community Radio. Reformulation on the regulation is needed to maximilize the function of CR in Indonesia as independent media and to support democratization in the broadcasting system in Indonesia.
