The voice of society in designing public recreational spaces (PRS) in an urban environment

Global urban population growth, climate change, and the energy crisis pose significant challenges for the local authorities and encourage a shift in local policy-making towards sustainable development. Local governments have to cater to public needs and expectations regarding recreational spaces and environmental protection by implementing innovative infrastructure solutions, including those based on renewable energy sources. In recent years, the debate on urban planning has centred on the placemaking approach and the implementation of the 15-minute city and smart city concepts. This novel approach promotes sustainable urban development that relies on the links between the natural environment, the economy, and society. The aim of this study was to explore the possibilities of urban planning solutions and the components of urban infrastructure that contribute to sustainable urban development in the context of improving the quality of local life. Local community needs were identified in a questionnaire survey and during a field investigation. The study was conducted in a medium-sized Polish city where public recreational spaces were redesigned in line with the principles of sustainable urban development. The results were used to propose universal urban development projects that address local needs and rely on renewable energy sources to create a sustainable future for society, the natural environment, and the climate.

THE CONCEPT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AS THE BASIS OF CONTINUOUS ECOLOGICAL TRAINING OF FUTURE TEACHERS

Increasing attention to the ecological training of young people in the system of modern education is one of the important problems nowadays. Guarantees of environmental protection are presented in ecological knowledge, abilities and skills, as well as in the socio-cultural behavior and worldview of the population. Therefore, one of the priority tasks of the educational system is the formation of the ecological culture of the younger generation through the implementation of a system of continuous environmental education based on the principles of sustainable development. The purpose of the article is to investigate the problem of continuous ecological training of future teachers based on sustainable development. Research methods: analysis and synthesis of scientific literature (to clarify key research concepts), systematization, and generalization (for the purpose of forming the author's conclusions). It is established that ensuring the sustainable development of society involves positive life activities of people through the creation of conditions that contribute to the harmonization of their relationships, development, and satisfaction of their needs in the socio-natural environment, providing opportunities for the formation of ecological culture in the educational sphere. The peculiarities of continuous ecological training of future teachers based on the concept of sustainable development are studied, and the content and results of this process are highlighted. The goal of continuous ecological training for sustainable development is to teach people to manage the quality of life; the formation of an ecological culture in the young generation, which involves the ecological orientation of the individual, the ability to increase their ecological education and literacy, to carry out social-ecological and ecological-project activities for the benefit of sustainable development. The main tasks of continuous ecological training are the formation of scientific knowledge and ecologically oriented knowledge, the development of environmental protection skills and abilities aimed at improving the state of the environment and improving the quality of life of people, and the upbringing of a highly educated and ecologically cultural personality. Continuous ecological education for the benefit of sustainable development originates in preschool education institutions, where for the first time children master the basics of environmental education and culture, and form an idea of their unity with nature. The next stage is general secondary education, where students form environmental competence and develop an environmental outlook. The next level of the continuous ecological education system is the higher school, where the professional ecological training of the future teacher is carried out, the value-meaning sphere of the individual is formed, social-ecological norms of professional activity are mastered.

The problem of environmental pollution has assumed massive and grave proportions over the decades. It has been left to the courts in India to go behind the letter of the law into the spirit of the law to find out the plausible solutions for the problem though evolution of the law of public nuisance into environmental law. Though the implementation of statutory provisions, as also by embracing various international doctrines, the Supreme Court of India as well as various High Courts have tried time and again to develop environment-friendly justice in India through the recognition of the principle of Sustainable Development. However, the actions of the judiciary had been under attacks from other organs of the State alleging that the judiciary is transgressing its boundaries and stepping into the realms of the executive and the legislature. Insights into Bitcoin and energy nexus. A Bitcoin price prediction in bull and bear markets using a complex meta model and SQL analytical functions

AbstractCryptocurrencies are in the center of attention of investors, public authorities and researchers, but the interest has shifted from purely financial aspects regarding the way of trading, lack of regulation and supervision of transactions, volatility, correlation with other assets to aspects related to sustainability taking in account the high energy consumption generated by the mining process and the impact on environmental pollution. Bitcoin was chosen for the research considering the dominance that this financial asset has on the cryptocurrency market and its position as alpha currency.The article focuses on the relationship between Bitcoin transactions and energy consumption, for period 1st January 2019—31st of May 2022, this interval having significant price movements. The authors made a prediction of the Bitcoin price using a complex meta-model and SQL analytical functions. The analysis is based on 15 fundamental variables in order to forecast the price: Bitcoin data (prices and volume), electricity price and traded quantity on day-ahead market (DAM), gas price and traded quantity on DAM, inflation in EU, EU-ETS emissions certificates and oil prices. The study reveals the importance of the relationship Bitcoin—energy—carbon emissions, elements that capture the impact of the mining process on the environment from the perspective of energy consumption. Investors on the Bitcoin market must be aware not only of the importance of financial aspects on the price of cryptocurrencies (inflation, demand, offer), but also of other elements related to the evolution of energy prices (electricity, oil, gas, renewable energy) and the evolution of emissions certificates prices. Considering the promotion of the principles of sustainable development on the capital market, portfolio investors have become increasingly attentive to the social and environmental performance of financial assets. This study aims to make financial market players aware of the non-financial implications of their transactions. In addition, the energy transition and the reconfiguration of the energy mix are elements of impact on the cryptocurrency market through the technical levers involved in the mining process.

Assessment for the Sustainable Development of Components of the Tourism and Recreational Potential of Rural Areas of the Aktobe Oblast of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The assessment of sustainable tourism development in the rural areas of the Aktobe oblast of Kazakhstan involved thoroughly analyzing multiple dimensions. Environmental, socio-economic, and cultural sustainability aspects were considered to comprehensively understand the region’s tourism potential. The study began by evaluating the available tourism resources in rural Aktobe. This included assessing natural attractions such as landscapes, wildlife, and geological features, as well as cultural heritage sites and infrastructure like accommodation facilities and transportation networks. A crucial aspect of the study was to analyze the environmental impact of tourism activities in rural areas. This involved evaluating the effects on ecosystems and natural resources. The measures for conserving these resources were also identified. Another focus was on the socio-cultural aspects of tourism development. The study aimed to preserve local traditions, cultural heritage, and community identity amidst tourism growth. Strategies for achieving socio-cultural sustainability were devised. Ranking methods were employed to identify key factors influencing rural tourism development. These methods helped prioritize areas for improvement and resource allocation. A balanced approach was adopted to assess the interaction between different dimensions of sustainability. This ensured that environmental, economic, and socio-cultural aspects were considered equally to achieve overall sustainable tourism development. ArcGIS 10 was used for data analysis and visualization. Maps and charts were created to represent spatial and statistical information, aiding in identifying trends and patterns. The study findings were crucial for identifying priority areas for infrastructure development and formulating strategies and programs for rural tourism promotion. The study aimed to ensure that tourism development aligns with the principles of sustainable development, benefiting both the local communities and the environment. The study provided valuable insights into the current status of rural tourism in Aktobe oblast and offered recommendations for sustainable development, contributing to the region’s long-term prosperity.

Durability and ecological assessment of low-carbon high-strength concrete with short AR-glass fibers: Effects of high-volume of solid waste materials

The goal of this research is to improve the mechanical characteristics and durability of concrete while adhering to green and sustainable development principles. Portland cement (PC) was replaced with ceramic waste powder (CWP), glass powder (GP), and granite waste powder (GWP) to create the low-carbon, high-strength concrete (HSC). These materials were incorporated at 0–50% as a partial replacement of PC. The short alkali-resistant (AR-) glass fiber content was added by 1.0% of the PC content. The changes in strength, microstructure, pore structure, as well as ecological assessment of HSCs was investigated. Various experiments on the durability properties and elevated temperature resistance of HSC were performed. The experimental results show that mechanical properties of HSC with 10%GP and 20%GWP were maximally enhanced at 28d, while the mechanical properties of HSC with 50% of all wastes are decreased. It was found also that HSC containing CWP showed significant reductions in carbonation depth (up to 65.89% lower than the control mixture), especially at higher replacement levels. Furthermore, the increment in substitution level of CWP has found an increment in pore volume, resulting in a reduction in preliminary strength performance. It was observed that a 50% substitution level of GP and GWP reduced the water penetration depth by 47.71% and 65.7% compared to the control mixture, respectively. The residual strength after 600 °C exposure for 10%CWP, 10% GP, and 20% GWP retained about 34.10%, 32.32%, and 43.29%, respectively, from their original strength. XRD tests and SEM micrographs showed that adding 10%GP and 20%GWP improve the hydration reactions. Finally, environmental assessments revealed that incorporating CWP, GP, and GWP into HSC led to reduced costs, energy consumption, and carbon footprint.

Sustainable Development Under AfCFTA: Dimensions, Limitations and Prospects

Abstract Sustainable development constitutes a catch phrase for integrated and inclusive development more so in Africa that is battling with development challenges. Despite its legitimization at the highest institutional level, a principal impediment encountered in the concretization of sustainable development principles (environmental, social and economic) in Africa remains the enforcement conundrum. The situation is compounded by indifference of the state and non-state actors. Cases of environmental damage, social malpractices and economic marginalization in the execution of trade and investment policies are largely treated with levity, with prioritization accorded to financial accruals over disciplining delinquent behaviour. Consequently, the emergence of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) with provisions on sustainable development renews hope for the concretization of the sustainable development principles in Africa. A crystallization of effective enforcement of sustainable development principles is deeply intertwined with an existence of an effective peer-review mechanism with a network of reporting linkages. Arguably, effective peer review system is fundamental to assessment of state of play, investigation of violations, collation of reports, and institutional strengthening to change the dynamics in favour of improved performance.

Phenolics from Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua extracted using natural deep eutectic solvents combined with auxiliary techniques: Composition, bioactivity, and mechanistic elucidation

This study investigated the natural extraction of polyphenolic compounds from Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua (P. cyrtonema). Employing the combination of natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) and auxiliary extraction techniques, we mainly focused on yield, total phenolics, total flavonoids, antioxidant capacity, and enzyme inhibition efficiency. Compared to hot reflux extraction (HRE), the NADES extract using a 1:2 ratio of choline chloride-lactic acid (ChCl-Lac) significantly increased the total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and α-glucosidase inhibition (p < 0.05). The HPLC-MS-MS identified the five most abundant phenolic compounds. Quantitative analysis showed that these compounds had the highest leaching rates in the ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) combined with lactic acid-based NADES system, followed by microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), requiring less than 4 min. Notably, rutin exhibited the highest extraction rate of 281.1 μg/g in the UAE-ChCl-Lac system, 9.82 times higher than conventional methods. The extraction mechanism was elucidated from the perspectives of surface charge density distribution and interaction energy. Therefore, ultrasound or microwave-assisted NADES extraction aligns with sustainable development principles, offering a green approach to enrich polyphenolic compounds in P. cyrtonema.

CONTRIBUTIONS OF BIOPHILIA TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Addressing the application of biophilia in urban areas, this article aims to analyze the effectiveness of its implementation in promoting sustainable development in its three main dimensions: environmental, economic, and social. The study proposes three specific objectives. Firstly, to highlight the intrinsic connection between humans and nature, examining how this relationship has evolved over time and how the biophilic concept reaffirms it as a fundamental core. Next, to analyze how the 2030 Agenda, a global commitment to sustainable development, relates to biophilic principles, and to assess whether Brazilian legislation is contributing to integrating these principles into urban life in the country. Finally, to investigate and understand how the different dimensions of sustainable development connect to biophilic principles and their impacts on well-being in urban areas, especially in achieving goal 11.7 of the aforementioned Agenda. Considering biophilia as one of the guiding principles of sustainable development, it is concluded that when applied in urban areas, it is a principled conception capable of reconciling urban progress and human relations with nature, providing an increase in individuals' well-being and contributing to the expansion of green areas in urban spaces, as well as collaborating with sustainable precepts. The contribution of this study lies in the need to establish a new paradigm for human interaction with the environment through development that promotes harmonious interaction with nature. To achieve the intended scope, the present research employed the hypothetico-deductive method, starting from the concept of biophilia to analyze whether its principles and guidelines can inspire sustainable actions, involving bibliographic and documentary research.

Research on the Application of Virtual Reality Technology in the Design and Evaluation of Interactive Interfaces for Renewable Energy Systems

In this investigation, we delve deeply into the visual interaction design of electric vehicle power management systems, particularly how we can integrate sustainable development principles to enhance the user experience and promote environmentally friendly travel. Initially, we take a look at the present situation and challenges faced by electric vehicle power management systems. We identify shortcomings in traditional design approaches that fail to prioritize sustainability, such as low energy efficiency and challenges in accessing user-friendly information. To validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, we conduct case studies and user tests. The results reveal that incorporating sustainable development elements into the visual interaction design not only significantly boosts user satisfaction and trust in the power management system but also helps reduce energy consumption and environmental pollution.

Development of fluorescent sensing platform with degradable hydrogel for rapid and ultratrace detection of Cr(VI) in vegetables

Degradable fluorescent film sensors are highly ideal for real-time outdoor detection of heavy metal ions and offer the advantage of preventing secondary contamination, aligning with the principle of sustainable development. In this work, we constructed a degradable fluorescent hydrogel for the specific detection of Cr(VI) ions, utilizing poly(1-pyrene butyric acid) (PPBA) as the sensing moiety and sodium alginate (SA) as the cross-linking substrate. The porous network structure of the PPBA-SA film provided enhanced ion transport channels and active sites, thereby reducing fluorescence response time and augmenting detection sensitivity. The PPBA-SA film exhibited rapid and selective recognition of Cr(VI) ions among a panel of 16 anions and 22 cations, achieving an impressive limit of detection of 1.99 nM. Moreover, we successfully applied this platform to detect Cr(VI) ions in four different vegetable samples. Notably, the PPBA bound with Cr(VI) ions could be effortlessly removed from the film, and the substrate underwent rapid degradation within 24 h, attaining a degradation rate of 72.4 %. This work provides an innovative and effective strategy for fabricating green and sustainable fluorescent sensors.

Harnessing knowledge management for green product competitive advantage with green process innovation as a mediator

Knowledge Management makes businesses sustainable and enhances their competitive edge. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between knowledge management and green product competitive advantage through the mediating role of green process innovation. To achieve the sustainability goals of Industry 5.0, workplace technology management can play a role in fostering the type of skill development that is necessary in this context. This study used a convenience sampling technique, where 200 responses were obtained via online Google form. The goodness of the sample was confirmed with the help of G∗Power (3.1.9.2) software, which calculated a sample size of 188. This study has empirically tested the four dimensions of the knowledge management process: Acquisition, creation, storage and retrieval, and utilization of knowledge with green innovation (green process innovation) and green product competitive advantage. All dimensions of knowledge management except knowledge creation showed a significant positive effect on green process innovation and an indirect positive impact on green product competitive advantage. This study has analyzed those dimensions of knowledge where knowledge is acquired, created, stored & retrieved, and utilized, and these have not been investigated in earlier empirical research more often concerning the green innovation leading toward the green product competitive advantage. Through this research, the managers will integrate the knowledge management system into the organization's processes to make organizations more innovative by acquiring, storing, and utilizing new knowledge. Organizations will step forward and gain a competitive advantage in line with sustainable development goals and principles of Industry 5.0.

РАЗВИТИЕ ИНСТИТУТОВ УСТОЙЧИВОГО РАЗВИТИЯ НА ПРЕДПРИЯТИЯХ АПК НА ОСНОВЕ ESG-КОНЦЕПЦИИ (НА ПРИМЕРЕ РЕСПУБЛИКИ ТАТАРСТАН)

Currently, companies around the world are faced with the task of not only increasing their own efficiency and competitiveness, but also complying with the principles of sustainable development. The relevance of this task is determined by increasing climate change and social problems, which force stakeholders to put forward new demands for environmental responsibility and social commitment of business. The ESG concept is a modern concept of doing business based on the principles of sustainable development. It should be noted that the application of ESG in agribusinesses is particularly specific due to the dual role they play in society and the economy: on the one hand, being large sources of greenhouse gas emissions and consumers of natural resources, on the other hand, ensuring food security and promoting development rural areas. The object of the study is the system of sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Tatarstan. The purpose of the study is to characterize the potential of the ESG concept for the development of sustainable development institutions in the agricultural sector of the Republic of Tatarstan and to identify the most effective practices for strengthening the integration of ESG principles into the activities of agro-industrial enterprises. Research methods: analysis of scientific literature on the topic of ESG and sustainable development in the agro-industrial complex, statistical analysis, general scientific methods. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the analysis of the possibilities of applying the ESG concept at enterprises of the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Tatarstan, identifying and systematizing factors that promote or hinder sustainable development in this area.

Microbiology of post-fermentation leachate

Using post-fermentation leachate as fertilizer is a good alternative and solution to the problem of waste at wastewater treatment plants and contains the principles of sustainable development. Leachate from anaerobic treatment of sewage sludge contains valuable elements such as phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium, which can improve soil properties. The production of liquid fertilizer minimizes the negative impact of leachate on the main biological stream in the WWTP and improves the energy efficiency of the entire wastewater treatment system. This transfers into the operating costs of the facility. When thinking about the agricultural use of digestion leachate and its introduction into the environment, a very important issue is its microbiological contamination. The purpose of the conducted research was to determine the microbiological quality of digestion leachates from municipal wastewater treatment plants and to determine the parameters of their hygienization. The number of bacteria in raw leachate is indicative of a sanitary risk in the case they are used in agriculture as fertiliser. Heating the leachate at 60°C for 15 minutes produces an effect comparable to that achieved by heating the leachate to 70°C. The sonication process itself did not affect the better temperature effect. Heating the leachate for 20 minutes after prior sonication for 20 minutes does not result in the complete elimination of microflora.

It discusses the policy and regulatory frameworks that support or hinder these advancements in different regions. Additionally, it assesses the environmental, social, and economic impacts of smart water management, highlighting the benefits of water conservation, improved access to clean water, and efficiency gains. The challenges facing the implementation of smart water management systems are critically analyzed, including technical, financial, and regulatory obstacles. Future directions for smart water management are also discussed, emphasizing the potential for scalability, adaptation, and the importance of cross-sectoral and international collaboration. TRANSFORMATIVE ELEMENTS OF TANJUNG BUMI BANGKALAN COASTAL AREA ARCHITECTURE

Indonesia is an archipelago country that is rich in traditional architecture. Natural disasters and the effect of globalization can make traditional architecture vulnerable. However, resilient and sustainable coastal area reconstruction can protect valuable assets for the development of the affected area. One of the principles of sustainable coastal development is to maintain a historical identity. Therefore, the image of a coastal city needs to consider and improve its identity based on the local culture. Traditional architecture, which is an expression of the traditions and culture of its people, has the potential to be developed into contemporary architecture. The Tanjung Bumi coastal area has an interesting traditional Tanean Lanjang architecture. This study aimed to identify transformative elements of Tanean Lanjang architecture within the coastal area of Tanjung Bumi so that it can be used as a basis for presenting contemporary architecture and maintaining the continuity of traditional architecture. This research is descriptive, with qualitative methods that explore the transformative elements of Tanjung Bumi Bangkalan coastal area architecture. Transformative elements that were identified included the existence of a multifunctional long yard, a rectangular house, the shape and layout of the Langgar, a porch, and columns.

Penerapan Prinsip Deklarasi Rio: Strategi Mengatasi Perubahan Iklim

Climate change is a global challenge that requires a collective and coordinated response from the international community. In an effort to overcome the impact of climate change on the balance of natural resources and the environment, the principles contained in the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development can be an important basis. This paper explains the application of the principles of the Rio Declaration in overcoming climate change, such as the Principle of Common Concern of Humankind, the Principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibility, the Principle of Sustainable Development and the Principle of Public Participation. By applying these principles, we can create better and more sustainable solutions to the challenge of climate change and provide long-term environmental, social and economic benefits.

STRATEGIC CONTROLLING TOOLS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF UKRAINIAN AGRICULTURAL COMPANIES

The subject of the study is the system of strategic control in an organisation, which is necessary for agri-food companies in the context of implementing the principles of sustainable development. Methodology. The following economic research methods were used in the study: monographic method (when studying scientific sources and reviewing thematic literature; studying the directions of sustainable development of business entities in the agri-food sector of Ukraine); scientific abstraction and generalisation (when studying various methodological approaches to determining the content of controlling); abstract and logical method (when determining the role and place of strategic controlling in the management system of agri-food companies, formulating conclusions based on the results of the study); methods of analysis and synthesis (when substantiating a set of tools for strategic controlling by elements of its system). The aim of the study is to supplement the methodological framework of the strategic controlling system for managing companies in the agri-food sector. Results. Controlling is an important management function, and its effectiveness determines the success of an organisation in achieving its goals and objectives. In modern conditions, strategic controlling can be combined with two main approaches – as a management philosophy and as a management function and mechanism. The system of strategic controlling is determined by a set of complex factors of the external and internal environment that determine the possibility of achieving the long-term goals and objectives. The implementation of sustainable development goals and objectives by agri-food companies creates new requirements for the strategic controlling system, the main of which are transparency, flexibility, inclusiveness, openness and efficiency. In order to successfully achieve the planned targets of sustainable development, the strategic controlling system should use a set of tools that is determined by the nature and effect of the relevant elements. It is proposed to use benchmarking, ABC-analysis, SWOT-analysis, PESTEL-analysis, methods of expert evaluation, CVP-analysis, financial analysis, network graphs and methods of expert forecasting as the main tools for strategic controlling of agri-food companies.
