Assessing the Prospects and Risks of Delivering Sustainable Urban Development Through 3D Concrete Printing Implementation

The article presents the results of a comprehensive study of the use of 3D Concrete printing (3DCP) technology to create urban infrastructure facilities according to sustainable development principles. The work includes a study of scientific articles on the subject area under consideration, a survey of additive construction market participants, as well as an analysis and generalization of promising areas for technology development and methods for improving the quality of objects erected using 3DCP. As part of the conducted literature review, publications included in the Scopus database for the period 2015–2024 were selected for analysis using the keywords ‘Sustainable development + 3DCP’ and ‘Sustainable construction + 3DCP’. The following conclusions were made: (i) the most popular publications are review articles about the development of materials and technologies for 3DCP and (ii) the most sought-after are the studies in the field of partial application of 3DCP technology, existing equipment and materials for 3DCP, and assessment of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of 3DCP use. For this purpose, a questionnaire was developed consisting of three blocks: equipment and technologies; structures and materials for 3DCP; the ecology and economics of 3DCP applicability. As a result, four main risks have been identified, which represent promising areas for 3DCP development.

Preparation of high flux low‐cost ceramics membrane supports with oil‐based drilling cutting pyrolysis residues (ODPRs) as raw material

AbstractLow‐cost ceramic membrane support is important for the filtration performance of a asymmetry filtration membrane. In this study, the oil‐based drilling cutting pyrolysis residues (ODPRs) were used as raw materials incorporating with fly ash, and carbon particles were used as pore‐forming agents to prepare high‐flux low‐cost ceramic membrane supports. Besides the strength of the supports was decreased with increased carbon particles addition and size, the porosity, pore size and consequently the Darcey permeability k1 and pure water permeability of the support were increased with the increased carbon particle addition and size. The chemical stability of the support was deteriorated with the increased carbon particles addition. A leaching test on the support with 10% 12 µm carbon particle addition indicates that the support obtained by using the ODPRs incorporating with fly ash as raw materials is safe for aqueous filtration. This study showcased the utilization of ODPRs as a primary resource to manufacture a high‐permeability support for water filtration. This approach aligns with the principles of sustainable development, following a waste‐to‐product‐to‐environment pathway.

The Impact of ESG on Corporate Performance: A Case Study of Yunnan Baiyao

Abstract: With the deepening integration of the global economy and the widespread acceptance of sustainable development principles, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors have become critical elements influencing long-term value and financial performance of enterprises. Globally, an increasing number of companies are paying attention to ESG factors and integrating them into their strategic planning and operational management. This paper employs case study analysis and accounting-related indicators analysis to evaluate the ESG practices of selected enterprises from the dimensions of environment, society, and governance. It then combines financial indicators to analyze the impact of ESG on their financial performance and the reasons behind it. Finally, suggestions are made on how to achieve sustainable development through improved ESG management.

Preparation of Microelectrolysis Filler Using Coal Slag for the Removal of Hazardous Substances in Contaminated Water.

Presently, the utilization of gasification slag in the context of wastewater treatment is constrained. Furthermore, the presence of dye wastewater and wastewater containing hazardous metals represents a significant threat to human health. Accordingly, the present study prepared a microelectrolytic filler (MF) from gasification slag via a high-temperature roasting method and evaluated its degradation performance in water containing organic matter and harmful metal ions. The impact of varying preparation conditions, including initial solution pH and MF dose, on the degradation process was examined. The removal of methyl blue was found to be 92.21% at an initial pH of 2, a reaction time of 300 min and a dosage of 40 g L-1. The removal of Cu(II), Cd(II), and Pb(II) metal ions was 97.32, 96.58, and 99.38%, respectively, at an initial pH of 4, a reaction time of 180 min, and a dosage of 10 g L-1. Following five cycles, the MF process demonstrated continued efficacy in the removal of dyes and heavy metals from the wastewater. A mechanistic analysis revealed that the water treatment process is not a single adsorption process. Instead, it was found that organic macromolecules undergo chain-breaking reactions, while heavy metal ions undergo redox reactions. The wastewater treatment process comprises a number of distinct strategies, including electrochemical reactions, adsorption, flocculation, and precipitation. These findings illustrate the potential of a gasification slag green recycling approach to treat waste with waste, in alignment with the principles of sustainable development.

Digitalization's influence on corporate sustainability strategies in the context of new environmental law

Following the implementation of the new environmental law, this paper investigates the impact of digitalization on corporate sustainability, grounded in digital economy strategies and sustainable development principles. Utilizing a sample of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2015 to 2021, the study explores how corporate digitalization influences their sustainable development and the underlying mechanisms involved. The findings indicate that corporate digitalization significantly improves sustainable development, with internal control quality and financing constraints acting as partial mediators in this process. Based on these findings, recommendations are provided to help Chinese listed companies implement the sustainable development strategies.

SOME LEGAL ASPECTS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EUROPEAN GREEN DEAL IN THE CONTEXT OF THE TRANSITION TO THE USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES IN UKRAINE

The article is devoted to the study of the legal aspects of the European Green Deal implementation in Ukraine, in particular in the context of the energy sector transformation the by increasing the share of renewable energy sources. There have been examined the key trends in the legal development of renewable energy and determines the environmental challenges caused by climate change and other negative factors affecting the environment, as well as analyzes the potential possibilities of adapting national environmental legislation to European legal standards in the field of renewable energy use. The author emphasizes the economic, social and environmental benefits of achieving the goals of the European Green Deal on the way to ensuring the sustainable development of Ukraine, calling for the creation of a clear and coherent system of legislation dedicated to the legal regulation of renewable energy in Ukraine. The results of the study points the urgency of creating an effective legal framework for the economy green transformation and the adaptation of energy and environmental policies to European requirements and standards. In the context of modern global environmental problems related to climate change, excessive pollution of atmospheric air, water and forest ecosystems, soil degradation as a result of both increasing anthropogenic load on natural resources and due to the development of objective laws of nature, one of the key priorities European environmental policy outlined the transition to the principles of sustainable development, which, in turn, generated the need to search for optimal mechanisms and concepts for ensuring such a transition. The European Green Course, adopted by the EU in 2019, is an ambitious and progressive strategy for the transformation of the European continent into a climate-neutral one by 2050. As a comprehensive conceptual package of legislative initiatives, to achieve this goal, the European Green Course includes not only the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, but also a significant increase in the share of renewable energy sources, an increase in the energy efficiency of European countries, and the integration of the energy markets of individual countries with the EU energy market. For Ukraine, the issue of implementing a policy of sustainable development by transitioning to the use of renewable energy sources is not only part of its European integration obligations, but also a time-tested necessity, taking into account the state of the country’s energy sector both during the war period and in the context of the post-war reconstruction of our country.

Development of Entrepreneurial Activity Using the Integration of Human Capital and Green Technologies to Optimize the Sustainable Development of the Tourism Sector (A Case Study of the Republic of Kazakhstan)

The development of the tourism sector faces serious challenges, which are related to its environmental transformation, digitalization, and integration of new technologies, as well as competitiveness. Tourists’ behavior is also changing. The future demand for tourism is likely to be driven by growing environmental awareness, increased use of digital services and new technologies, a shift towards a more personalized travel experience, and ensuring well-being and better engagement with local communities and culture. Meeting the requirements of the modern tourism industry is a problem not only for the Republic of Kazakhstan but also for other countries that strive for sustainable development of the tourism sector. The purpose of the study is to identify ways to develop entrepreneurial activity by integrating human capital and green technologies to optimize the sustainable development of the tourism sector. The paper examines the basic theoretical concepts of the essence and forms of sustainable tourism and presents the concept of the integration of human capital and green technologies to achieve the principles of sustainable development. Based on an expert survey, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis, and statistical methods, the main ways of promotion and development of sustainable tourism, as well as measures to integrate human capital and green technologies into entrepreneurial activities in the tourism sector in the East Kazakhstan Region, have been identified. The authors have concluded that the introduction of green technologies and the integration of human capital with them provide new standards for the quality of tourist services while preserving the natural resources of the region.

THE BRAZILIAN LEGAL SYSTEM AND THE INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL PRINCIPLES

This article aims to analyze the environmental principles established in the international order and recognized by the Brazilian legal system, in particular the 1988 constitutional text, with the aim of evaluating the effects of international legislation with regard to environmental matters, based on verification of a staggered and more accentuated regulatory development in the environmental field. The aim was to define the parameters of the new world economic order and the importance attributed to the outstanding principles of precaution, sustainable development and prevention, with a view to consolidating a relevant tool for promoting environmental protection. In this sense, by synthesizing a study on the adoption and adequacy of the principle elements of the international environmental order, an investigative aspect is created to promote awareness of the primacy of an environment that receives collective care both at a global and national level. The strengthening of international environmental law was also a concern of this article, even though it was a brief analysis, so that it shows the exact notion that the issue must involve all social actors, from individuals and even the most complex state structure, with the goal of defining and applying a normative framework on environmental issues, in the international sphere and its applicability in national territory, through the due process of internalization of treaties and, in particular, the economic order in the 1988 Constitution, facing the challenges arising from growth world population and the urgent need to confront the catastrophic effects of the process of industrialization and large-scale consumption, considering environmental sustainability.

The Sustainable Management of Ecohotels for the Support of Ecotourism—A Case Study

Ecotourism represents a modern form of tourism that accepts the principles of sustainable development and the adequacy of the conditions of tourist destinations. The environmental awareness of all parties participating in tourism, objects, and subjects of tourism determines the development of ecotourism. Ecohotels, or “green hotels”, as an integral part of ecotourism, represent tourist accommodation facilities that have the “The Flower” certificate, their business activities minimize the impact on environmental quality. The management of ecohotels therefore implements programs and measures determining sustainable competitiveness at the local, regional, and supra-regional levels in the business in interaction with reducing the carbon footprint, water consumption, energy consumption, and waste production. They also support the use of recyclable materials and bio-products and the introduction of environmental management respecting the principles of green management in all areas of the tourism business. The competitiveness of ecohotels is in interaction with the willingness of tourists to use their pro-environmental services. The presented study is focused on the willingness of tourists to use the services of ecohotels, with an emphasis on identifying an effective strategy for supporting the development of ecotourism in the Slovak Republic. The study concentrates on the willingness of tourists to use ecohotels as part of their tourist activities based on a questionnaire survey. The study identifies the factors of strengths and weaknesses as well as the opportunities and threats of the use of ecohotels by tourists in supporting the development of ecotourism. Through the exact quantification of the weights of individual factors in terms of Saaty’s matrix and a SWOT analysis, an effective strategy for the use of ecohotels in supporting the development of ecotourism is defined. In recent years, the stimulation and use of tourists’ interest in environmental quality, with an emphasis on reducing negative impacts on the environment, has resonated; thus, a model of effective marketing strategy is presented.

State policy of sustainable development on the basis of the "green economy"

The article deals with issues of the state policy of sustainable development based on the principles of «green economy». The transition to sustainable development is a process of changing the value orientations of many people. The internationally recognized fundamental values of development are freedom, equality, solidarity, tolerance, respect for nature, and shared responsibility. It was determined that the national goals of sustainable development are based on political, economic, social, ecological, moral and cultural values inherent in Ukrainian society. They determine the focus of the strategy on caring for the common good and protecting the national interests of Ukraine. Radical changes related to today’s problems and the course towards European integration make it possible to build a new Ukraine based on the principles of sustainable development, rule of law, protection of human rights, democracy, solidarity, and proper governance. It was emphasized that the strategic vision of sustainable development of Ukraine is based on ensuring national interests and fulfilling Ukraine’s international obligations regarding the transition to sustainable development. Such development involves: overcoming imbalances in the economic, social and environmental spheres; building a peaceful and safe, socially cohesive society with good governance and inclusive institutions; transformation of economic activity, transition to the principles of «green economy», etc. A «green economy» can be defined as one that increases people’s well-being and ensures social justice, while significantly reducing risks to the environment and increasing poverty. Attention was drawn to the Recovery Plan of Ukraine (2022) and the main priorities were determined, namely the acceleration of the implementation of the European Green Agreement thanks to the development of low-carbon energy and the existing energy infrastructure and the possibility of green exports; availability of electricity at a price below the European price with a significant share of «green» energy; support for the transition to energy with zero carbon emissions: development of carbon-free energy (nuclear), increase in gas and biofuel production, development of the ecosystem; regulation of green tariffs; promoting the transition of the agro-food sector to «green» growth; removal of technical barriers to the integration of Ukrainian manufacturers into the Single European Green Market, in particular, by spreading the necessary certification procedures and confirmation of compliance, increasing the level of awareness of manufacturers in this area, supporting manufacturers of ecologically better products, expanding the capacity of Ukrainian manufacturers to participate in «green» (energy­efficient, sustainable) public procurement, etc.

Sustainable Development in Regional Socio-Economic Strategies in the Central Chernozem Macro-Region

The concept of sustainable development in modern territorial management is gaining momentum more intensively and dynamically. Socio-economic and environmental aspects are embedded in strategic national and regional documents of a long-term nature. The degree of achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted by the UN Agenda is assessed and monitored in various reports of international and industry organizations, which affects the reputational characteristics of countries. The publication presents the results of a review of the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals N 9 (SDG-9): “Industrialization, innovation and infrastructure” (Creation of sustainable infrastructure, promotion of inclusive and sustainable industrialization and innovation) in 5 subjects of the Russian Federation of the Central Chernozem macro-region for the period 2015–2022. Indicators for monitoring the achievement of SDG-9 in the regional context were proposed by the authors when comparing the national set of SDG indicators and statistical indicators characterizing the development of the subjects of the Russian Federation. The main research methods are systematization, content analysis and the method of structural and dynamic assessment. In the course of the study, a unified regional list of SDG-9 indicators was formed; an empirical assessment of this list of indicators was carried out on the materials of 5 subjects of the Central Chernozem macro-region and an overview of the degree of achievement of this goal in the studied regions. The authors conducted a comparative review of the strategies of social and economic development of the subjects of the Central Chernozem macro-region for the existence of principles of sustainable development.

Features of the restaurant market and consumer behavior in the Moscow restaurant business segment: study results

The article presents a comprehensive study results aimed at identifying peculiarities of the restaurant market and consumer behavior in the Moscow restaurant business segment. Within the framework of the research three stages have been realized. At the first stage the Moscow restaurant market macroenvironment has been analyzed to identify external factors of influence on modern restaurant business. The external factors of positive and negative impact on the restaurant industry development have been structured and described. At the second stage to identify the main trends of the Moscow restaurant market the method of content analysis of the Moscow restaurant business establishments sites with high rating indicators based on the Yandex neural network data was used. The main trends of the Moscow restaurant market are: restaurants’ focus on preparing healthy food and vegetarian cuisine; use of farm products and local ingredients in prepared dishes; technological innovations implementation that simplify consumer experience; focus on the principles of sustainable development and environmental friendliness in the business model; restaurant formats variety. At the third stage of the study, a survey has been conducted among visitors to Moscow restaurants and cafes to identify consumer behavior. The identified consumer practices in the restaurant market indicate, on the one hand, active involvement of the audience in visiting Moscow restaurants, cafes, and bars, and on the other hand, the use of restaurant meal delivery services via restaurant websites or mobile applications. The dominant influence of rational factors in consumers’ choice of a restaurant to visit and changes in the consumer motivation structure when visiting restaurants and cafes have been revealed.

Value-added utilization technologies for seaweed processing waste in a circular economy: Developing a sustainable modern seaweed industry.

The global seaweed industry annually consumes approximately 600,000 tons of dried algal biomass to produce algal hydrocolloids, yet only 15-30% of this biomass is utilized, with the remaining 70-85% discarded or released as scum or wastewater during the hydrocolloid extraction process. This residual biomass is often treated as waste and not considered for further commercial use, which contradicts the principles of sustainable development. In reality, the residual algal biomass could be employed to extract additional biochemical components, such as pigments, proteins, and cellulose, and these ingredients have important application prospects in the food sector. According to the biorefinery concept, recycling various products alongside the principal product enhances overall biomass utilization. Transitioning from traditional single-product processes to multi-product biorefineries, however, raises operating costs, presenting a significant challenge. Alternatively, developing value-added utilization technologies that target seaweed waste without altering existing processes is gaining traction among industry practitioners. Current advancements include methods such as separation and extraction of residual biomass, anaerobic digestion, thermochemical conversion, enzymatic treatment, functionalized modification of algal scum, and efficient utilization through metabolic engineering. These technologies hold promise for converting seaweed waste into alternative proteins, dietary supplements, and bioplastics for food packaging. Combining multiple technologies may offer the most effective strategy for future seaweed waste treatment. Nonetheless, most research on value-added waste utilization remains at the laboratory scale, necessitating further investigation at pilot and commercial scales.

The article is devoted to the study of the concept of “green” marketing, the need to change marketing tools in accordance with the principles of sustainable development in the marketing plan of companies. The article discusses the formation of environmental marketing strategies and changes in the marketing mix (4Ps) in accordance with these strategies. In addition, it analyzes the possibilities and benefits of introducing environmental marketing tools in companies for creating a sustainable competitive advantage.

Bio-sourced multifunctional adsorbent of chitosan and adipic acid activated-dragon fruit peels for organic dye removal from water: Eco-friendly management and valorization of biomass

Employing sustainable biomaterials obtained from waste biomass and biopolymers provides a very promising method for eliminating organic dyes from wastewater. This study presents a novel adsorbent of modified dragon fruit peels and chitosan, addressing wastewater treatment and environmental waste management. Precisely, a bio-sourced multifunctional (high level of functional groups) adsorbent (hereinafter, CHS/DFP-ADP) was developed from chitosan and adipic acid activated-dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) peels. This biomaterial was applied to effectively adsorb organic pollutants (safranin O dye, SAF-O) from water. The adsorption variables, namely A: CHS/DFP-ADP dosage (0.02–0.08 g), B: pH (4–10), and C: duration (10–40 min), were modeled and optimized using the Box-Behnken Design (BBD). The results of the BBD model showed the optimum adsorption parameters for achieving the highest level of SAF-O removal (94.83 %) were as follows: CHS/DFP-ADP does = 0.049 g, the pH ∼ 10, and the contact duration = 40 min. The experimental results on the dye adsorption by CHS/DFP-ADP demonstrated conformity with the pseudo-first-order and Freundlich models. The biomaterial demonstrated a significant capability to adsorb SAF-O dye, with an adsorption capacity of 607.2 mg/g. The adsorption process of the cationic dye on the CHS/DFP-ADP involves several interactions, such as Yoshida H-bonding, electrostatic forces, n-π, and H-bonding. This work aligns with the principles of green chemistry and sustainable development, offering an innovative approach to tackle environmental concerns and promote the circular economy. The present effort meets several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).

Abstract This article examines the development of ‘Forest City’ in the Iskandar Malaysia development Corridor within the broader context of China’s international expansion, focusing on Forest City portrayal as a model of sustainability. Despite being promoted as ‘eco-cities’ and ‘green cities’, these mega-projects often fall short of these ideals, revealing a significant gap between their marketed image and their actual environmental practices (Ouis 2011). Through the lens of Practice Theory enriched by the developmental state model, this study analyses the alignment between the promotional rhetoric of Chinese-backed green city projects and their real-world execution. Practice Theory offers a valuable tool for identifying inconsistencies between stated commitments to sustainability and the tangible outcomes observed in Chinese-finance development projects in Southeast Asia. The developmental state model helps to understand the practices that are translated, transplanted, and embedded by Chinese developers across borders. This analytical framework is critical as it sheds light on the underlying dynamics of ‘global China’ initiatives, which have gained increased global attention. Such scrutiny is particularly pertinent in highlighting the contrast between the marketed sustainability of these cities and the principles of genuine sustainable development. This critique provides a deeper understanding of the environmental implications of China’s overseas investments. Based on this analysis, the overarching research question is: why do Chinese-backed green city projects, such as Forest City in Iskandar Malaysia, frequently exhibit discrepancies between their promoted environmental sustainability and the actual environmental outcomes?

The integration of the principles of sustainable development into all operational processes, from product quality control to waste disposal, creates an entire ecosystem of responsible business and lifestyle of people.

The Classification of Hotels in the Context of Sustainable Development Factors: A Case Study of Public Policy in the European Union and Poland

With the growing awareness among entrepreneurs and consumers within the tourism industry regarding the field of sustainable development, it seems necessary to base hotel classification systems on an integrated approach to management quality, including the fulfillment of ecological and environmental criteria. However, this topic has yet to be recognized in the literature, especially concerning the European market. Therefore, this article aims to fill this research gap and indicate how environmental standards have been implemented in the European system of hotel classification—Hotelstars Union (HSU)—and that in force in Poland. With regard to these systems, the differences in the classification criteria taken into account by the certifying organizations in the European Union (EU) and the administrative hotel categorization system in Poland are pointed out. Particular emphasis is placed on the criteria related to environmental management in the hotel industry. The criteria related to environmental management were identified through an analysis of the criteria of eight environmental management systems that are applicable to the contemporary hotel industry. The results of this research prove that, even though the HSU system takes the principles of sustainable development into account to a much greater extent than the Polish system, its primary weakness is that most of its criteria related to the environment are optional. In addition, the optional criteria have higher weights than the obligatory ones. In turn, the Polish classification system makes very little reference to environmental standards. Moreover, it is not detailed, and the assessment criteria are not up to date. Therefore, it is recommended that a greater number of environmental criteria be included in the next update of the HSU system, which should be obligatory for hotels to meet. In addition, the sustainability criteria included in the HSU system should be adapted to the policy system aimed at the hotel industry in Poland and other EU countries.

Analyzing the socially sustainable impacts of private investments in the mining sector in rural areas

This study examines the effect of private investment in the mining sector on social sustainability across nine ASEAN countries from 2005 to 2021 using the CS-ARDL panel data approach. The results indicate a negative relationship between private mining investment and social sustainability, with reductions of 0.15% in the short term and 0.59% in the long term, due to environmental degradation, income inequality, and economic volatility. A 1% increase in rural GDP also leads to declines in social sustainability by 0.03% and 0.17% in the short and long term, respectively, underscoring the need for eco-friendly economic activities. Additionally, inflation reduces social sustainability, while rural internet access significantly improves it. To encourage sustainable investment, policies should focus on green finance, sustainable literacy, risk mitigation, and rural economic growth aligned with sustainable development principles.

Impact of a Bio-Cross-Linking Agent Obtained from Spent Coffee Grounds on the Physicochemical and Thermal Properties of Gelatin/Κ-Carrageenan Hydrogels.

Gelatine hydrogels can be prepared using different cross-linking methods, such as enzymatic, physical or chemical. Unfortunately, in the case of chemical cross-linking, the typically utilized synthetic cross-linkers are harmful to human health and the environment. Therefore, in accordance with the principles of green chemistry and sustainable development, we have obtained compounds for the chemical cross-linking of hydrogel polymers from the processing of spent coffee grounds. In this study, gelatin/κ-carrageenan hydrogels are cross-linked using a bio-cross-linking agent from spent coffee grounds. Their physicochemical and thermal properties are compared with those of standard physical gels. The chemical cross-linking was confirmed based on FT-IR spectra, which demonstrated the formation of new covalent bonds between the oxidized polyphenols included in the extract from the spent coffee grounds and the amide groups present in the gelatine structure. Significant differences were also observed in morphology (SEM images) and other physico-chemical characteristics (gel fraction, swelling ability, hardness). The chemically cross-linked hydrogels in comparison to physically ones are characterized by a better developed porous network, a slightly higher gel fraction (64.03 ± 4.52% as compared to 68.15 ± 0.77%), and a lower swelling ratio (3820 ± 45% as compared to 1773 ± 35%), while TGA results show that they have better thermal stability. The research confirmed the possibility of using the developed natural cross-linking agent in the process of obtaining hydrogel materials based on bio-polymers.
