Transbronchial Lung Cryobiopsy for Diagnosis of Pediatric Interstitial Lung Disease

Tissue diagnosis of Childhood interstitial lung diseases is of paramount importance to outline management. A 10-year-old boy with prolonged cough, and computed tomography of thorax with features suggestive of primary Langerhans's cell histiocytosis. Transbronchial cryobiopsy of lung using flexible cryoprobe, revealed a final diagnosis of Surfactant protein C/ABCA3 deficiency. Transbronchial cryobiopsy of the lung can provide adequate lung tissue for a categorical diagnosis of interstitial lung diseases in children.

Abstract Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) of the spine is a common benign disease in children and adolescents that rarely affects adults. Main management of single lesion (unifocal) vertebral LCH is conservative method, unless there is neurological deficit due to mass effect, surgery must be considered. This is an interesting and rare case report of the patient with LCH at C5 vertebral body who underwent fusion surgery.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a very rare disease of female genital tract, most commonly seen in vulva and unusual in postmenopausal period. Herein, we report the 8th case of pure vulvar LCH in a postmenopausal woman. We pay attention to the differential diagnosis in postmenopausal state, features of pathologic diagnosis, and treatment options.

Primary Langerhans cell histiocytosis of the vulva: Report of a case and brief review of the literature

Primary Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) of the vulva is rare. Fifteen cases of primary cutaneous vulvar LCH have been reported in English literature. We report an additional case of LCH confined to the vulva. In this article, we describe the clinical presentation, histopathology and immunohistochemistry findings of vulvar LCH that are helpful to both gynecologists and pathologists in the diagnosis of this entity. We briefly discuss the pathogenesis of LCH. The debate whether LCH is a reactive or neoplastic entity is still ongoing.

Primary Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis of the Vulva

Primary Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) of the female genital tract is very uncommon. Since the natural history of this tumor is unpredictable, with spontaneous remissions and exacerbations, establishment of the diagnosis is often difficult. In the few reported cases of LCH involving the vulva there were systemic manifestations of the disease. We report the clinical and histopathological findings in the case of a 36-year-old woman who presented with a 9-year history of vulvar lesions. The diagnosis of LCH was established by immunohistochemical techniques, which demonstrated sheets of S-100 protein-positive histiocytes in the dermal tumor. The patient received radiotherapy to the vulva and responded with complete remission.
