The epoxide OCH 2C HCH 2OCF 2CF 2SO 2F ( 1) has been used in the preparation of new fluorocarbon sulfonyl fluorides containing aromatic primary and secondary alcohols, chlorohydrin and diol groups:HOCH 2CH(OCH 2C 6H 5)CH 2OCF 2CF 2SO 2F ( 2); C 6H 5CH 2OCH 2CH(OH)CH 2OCF 2CF 2SO 2F ( 3); ClCH 2CH-(OH)CH 2OCF 2CF 2SO 2F ( 4); and HOCH 2CH(OH)OCF 2CF 2SO 2F ( 5). A new polyester, [C(O)CF 2CF 2CF 2C(O)-OCH 2CH(CH 2OCF 2CF 2SO 2F)O]n ( 6) and a derived urethane polymer 7 were also prepared. The compositionof the urethane polymer indicated that per mol of diol 5, 6 mol of 1,6-diisocyanohexane were needed. Infrared, NMR and mass spectra data support the assigned structures.
