Psychological correction of Internet addiction is possible by means of art therapy. The advantage of the method is that art therapy acts in the language of visual and plastic expression, which is especially effective in working with adolescents and allows you to use it as a tool for research, development, and harmonization in cases where it is difficult for a teenager to express his emotions verbally. Modern studies of the relationship between Internet addiction and personality traits in adolescents, the relationship between the propensity to Internet addiction and character accentuations in adolescents, and the differences in personality traits and character accentuations of Internet-addicted boys and girls have been analyzed. There is a lack of scientific research on the effectiveness of psychological correction and prevention of Internet addiction among adolescents, taking into account their personal characteristics. Identifying and taking into account such features will further individualize the process of correctional, developmental, and psychoprophylactic activity of a psychologist. A description of the study of the effectiveness of methods in adolescents is given. The results of the analysis of the personality traits of adolescents prone to Internet addiction are presented. The personality traits of adolescents prone to Internet addiction include instability of the emotional sphere, self-doubt and increased personal anxiety, a reduced level of social and emotional intelligence. These personality traits create difficulties in the adolescent's communication with others and his interaction with society and also lead to difficulties in the further socialization of the individual. This further engages teenagers in using the Internet. The analysis of personality traits made it possible to develop a program for correcting Internet addiction in adolescents. Comparative results showed that the number of subjects at risk with Internet addiction and propensity to it decreased. The effectiveness of the developed program is noted.

Internet Addiction in Mexican Medical Students and Family Functioning

Introduction: Internet addiction is a deterioration in the control of the Internet, manifested in various cognitive, behavioral, and physiological symptoms. Internet addiction affects family functioning by generating problems in relationships with family members. The disturbed functioning of the family also makes individuals vulnerable to internet addiction. Objective: To determine the relationship between family functioning and internet addiction. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, survey-type observational study was carried out on 358 students of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Mexico. to measure the presence of internet addiction. Result: A prevalence of 28% for internet addiction was found in medical students. Conclusions: This research found that following Olson's model, family functioning is not significantly related to internet addiction. The overall prevalence of internet addiction was higher than that found in other countries. Since the family plays an essential role in preventing internet addiction, it should be considered to reduce excessive Internet use.

Developing a structural model of the relationship between sensation seeking and adolescent internet addiction: the mediating role of self-empowerment

Introduction: The increasing demand for computer technology and the widespread influence of the internet has left many people, particularly students, with mental disorders and problems in social connections caused by computer addition. Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of self-empowerment in the relationship between sensation seeking and adolescent internet addiction. Method: This descriptive study has used structural modeling. The study's statistical population included all high school students in Karaj in 2018-2019, from whom 310 students were selected by purposive sampling and completed the Arndt Inventory of Sensation Seeking (AISS), Young Internet Addiction Test, and Psychosocial Inventory of Ego Strength (PIES). The collected data were analyzed by Pearson correlation and Sobel test using SPSS23 and AMOS23. Results: According to the results, the direct effect of sensation seeking and self-empowerment on the students internet addiction was significant at a 95% confidence level (p<0.05). The results also indicated an indirect relationship between sensation seeking and the students internet addiction mediated by their self-empowerment at a 95% confidence level (p<0.05). In general, the results of the models showed a good fit for all research scales. Conclusion: In conclusion, paying attention to the enhancement of individuals belief in their ego strength can reduce the likelihood of high-risk behaviors and consequently prevent the adverse effects of adolescent internet addiction through psychological well-being. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the role of sensation seeking and self-empowerment to prevent internet addiction.

Self-Control, Consideration of Future Consequences, and Internet Addiction among Chinese Adolescents: The Moderating Effect of Deviant Peer Affiliation.

Although a large number of studies have indicated that self-control was an important predictive factor for adolescent internet addiction, the moderating and mediating mechanisms underlying this relationship remain unclear. To address this research gap, the present study, according to social learning theory and the organism–environment interaction theory, tested whether consideration of future consequences mediated the relation between self-control and adolescent internet addiction and whether deviant peer affiliation moderated the relationship between consideration of future consequences and internet addiction. Using longitudinal tracking (two-time points and the interval is 6 months). Three middle schools in Guangzhou were randomly selected. The participants were 1182 students ranging in age from 12 to 15 years (average age: 14.16, SD = 1.29) from three middle schools in Guangzhou (651 boys and 531 girls) in Guangdong Province. Results showed that consideration of future consequences mediated the relationship between self-control and internet addiction. Furthermore, the relationship between future consequence consideration and internet addiction was moderated by deviant peer affiliation. These findings highlighted the potential mediating role of consideration of future consequences in linking self-control to adolescent internet addiction. We also found high deviant peer affiliation weakens the protective effect of future consequence consideration on Internet addiction. This study may provide support for adolescent Internet addiction prevention and have some educational implications.

This study aimed to examine internet use in terms of psychological well-being. The descriptive and correlational research designs were used in this study. The data were collected by the online survey. The survey included “Internet Addiction” and “Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being scales” and a “Socio-Demographic Form”. Four hundred and twelve people participated in the study. A negative, moderate and significant relationship was found between internet addiction and psychological well-being. It has been determined that being under the age of 25, single, unemployed and having a low income are the factors that significantly increase internet addiction. In addition, with the increase in work and income levels, psychological well-being increases significantly. These findings show that individuals under the age of 25, single, unemployed, and in low-income group are in the risk group for internet addiction. As a result, it can be suggested to focus on individuals in the risk group and psycho-training program can be designed for increasing the level of psychological well-being in order to prevent internet addiction.   Key words: Internet addiction, internet usage, psychological well-being.

Personal Characteristics of Students, Inclined to Internet-addicted Behaviour

Introduction. The article is devoted to the study of personality traits of students with different levels of Internet addiction. In connection with the rapid ubiquitous spread of the Internet, the problem of dependence on the global network is becoming more and more urgent. However, we have to state that there is a contradiction between the need to prevent Internet addiction among young people and insufficient knowledge of the personal characteristics of students who are prone to Internet addictive behaviour. Materials and Methods. The research used the following methods: theoretical analysis of scientific literature, testing (test for Internet addiction (K. Young (adapted by V. A. Loskutova)), test “Self-assessment” (L. D. Stolyarenko), personality questionnaire “Suggestibility” (S. V. Klauchek and V. V. Delariu), personality questionnaire EPI (Eysenck Personality Inventory) (G. Eysenck), methodology for diagnosing failure avoidance motivation (T. Ehlers)). For statistical analysis of empirical data, the Student’s test was used for independent samples. Results. The study found that among the respondents there are no people with a pronounced Internet addiction. Identified potential Internet addicts – students overly keen on the Internet. They tend to have low self-esteem scores and are more susceptible to suggestion than regular web users. Most students who are prone to Internet-addicted behaviour have a high and too high level of motivation for avoiding failure, while the majority of ordinary users are characterized by a high level. There are no significant differences between the groups of respondents on the introversion and extraversion scale. Statistical analysis of the data obtained confirmed the presence of significant differences between students who are potential addicts and students who are ordinary Internet users in terms of self-esteem and suggestibility. Discussion and Conclusion. The analysis of the results of the study allows us to conclude that students who are overly keen on the Internet differ from their peers – ordinary Internet users by their tendency to a low assessment of their own qualities and a higher suggestibility. They also have a higher level of failure avoidance motivation. The data obtained by us can be used in the development of programs for the prevention of Internet addiction among students.

The effect of Internet addiction on eating attitude and body image in university students.

The research was carried out to determine the effect of internet addiction on eating attitude and body perception. This study is descriptive, conducted with undergraduate students (n = 400) in a university in eastern Turkey. The data were collected by using Descriptive Questionnaire, Young Internet Addiction Test-Short-Form (YIAT-SF), Eating Attitude Test 26 (EAT-26), and Body Cathexis Scale (BCS). In addition, students' height and weight measurements were collected. It was determined that there was positively at a very weak level a significant correlation between YIAT-SF total score and EAT-26 total score. There was a negative, weak significant correlation between the total score of YIAT-SF and the BCS total score (p < 0.05). In students, internet addiction is related to eating behavior disorder and reduces satisfaction with body image. For this reason, education programs should be organized by health professionals to prevent internet addiction and psychological and physiological problems related to excessive internet use.

The effectiveness of prevention programs for problematic Internet use in adolescents and youths: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Problematic Internet use (PIU) can lead to dysfunction and undesired consequences, especially in adolescents and youths. Preventive interventions can reduce them, but should be built on sound evidence. This review synthesizes the available evidence on the effectiveness of primary prevention programs for PIU in adolescents and youths. It adds to previous reviews by broadening the search to general and specific problematic behavior. Two independent reviewers performed a systematic search for published studies on PIU and internet addiction in English, French and Spanish using PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials, and Scopus. Published experimental and quasi-experimental studies that assessed the effectiveness of primary prevention programs targeting PIU behaviors were considered for inclusion. Full texts for eligible studies were retrieved and assessed for quality. Five studies were retained for narrative synthesis. Three of them based the intervention strategy on an underlying theory, one on media literacy, and one used an educational-based approach. A meta-analysis showed that all five interventions were effective in preventing internet addiction separately. However, when using the Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman (HKSJ) estimator and removing one of the studies because of a disproportionate Hedges’ g, combined effects were no longer significant. Although PIU is a popular topic, little is known about ways to prevent it. This review demonstrates that prevention programs can be based on different theoretical approaches, but that the available evidence is too heterogeneous to derive generalizable conclusions concerning their effectiveness.

Internet-related problems and learning motivation of the students of medical university

IntroductionNowadays the cyberspace penetrates all the spheres of our lives: work, leisure and learning activity. However, uncontrolled presence in the virtual reality can form Internet-addictive behavior. Young people seem to be in increased risk of Internet-related problems.ObjectivesThe research aim is to study the motivational shpere of the students with different level of Internet dependency.MethodsThe research methods are: Chen Internet Addiction Scale (CIAS), Internet Perception Inventory, Learning Motivation Diagnostics Inventory, Test of Motivation of Success or Fear of the Failure. The sample consists of 37 students of the medical university in the age from 21 to 24 years. According to the results of the CIAS 3 groups have been marked out: Group 1 - with the highest level of Internet-related problems, Group 2 – the risk group of forming the Internet addiction, Group 3 – students who have not demonstrated proneness to Internet-addictive behavior.ResultsThe motivational sphere of the students with a low risk of Internet addiction seem to be more differenciated comparing with the one of the rest students. The motives of creative self-realization; communicative, social and learning motives have been demostrated. However, we have not found a significant differance between the groups in motivation for success. The motives of professional self-realization are equally important for all the research participants.ConclusionsThe obtained data can be implemented when designing Internet addiction prevention programs. We assume that including the motivational component into such programs can make them more effective.DisclosureNo significant relationships.

Personality characteristics of students in the regulation of network activity

Introduction. Nowadays, the increasing Internet influence on the personality and the ambiguous nature of this impact frequently result in such negative consequences as Internet addiction, reduced self-control, and dysregulation of the Internet-activity. Therefore, it is becoming more and more relevant to investigate the characteristics of personality regulation of students' network activity. The aim of the current research was to identify personality characteristics, which determine the network activity of students. Methodology and research methods. The current research is based on a subject-personal approach. The following methods were applied: Internet Behaviour Questionnaire (by A. E. Zhichkina); Self-Organisation Activities Questionnaire by E. Yu. Mandrikova (OSD); modified questionnaire (by O. N. Arezdova, L. N. Babanin, A. E. Voiskunsky); questionnaire “Attitudes towards the Internet” (by E. Gubenko); Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire in the adaptation of O. L. Pisareva and A. Gritsenko; the technique of M. Kernis and A. Paradise “The Contingent Self-Esteem Scale” adapted by T. N. Savchenko, A. G. Faustova; personality questionnaire (TIPI-RU) (by A. S. Sergeeva, B. A. Kirillov, A. F. Dzhumagulova). Results and scientific novelty. For the first time, personality regulation of network activity is considered as a system of personality formation, which includes the following components in its structure: regulatory-behavioural, need-motivational, cognitive-emotional, and reflective-evaluative. General trends in the identified components and the connection of network behaviour strategies with personality characteristics of the student audience are determined. Students are characterised by an understanding of their own goals and their desire to achieve them, a tendency to be consistent and to follow the scheduled structure of the organisation of events, the manifestation of will to achieve goals and developed tactical planning skills. The Internet for students is above all a comfortable environment, where it is possible to feel calm and security, to expand social contacts, to find a new experience. Students are more likely to use effective strategies for cognitive emotion regulation, which are aimed at searching for the ways to overcome adverse situations, at recognising the positive significance of the event for personal growth, as well as at accepting the situation. Respondents' self-esteem is moderately reactive to the impact of situational factors. Students, who prefer network behaviour strategy “Activity in action”, have a generally positive personality profile, they tend to choose favourable strategies of cognitive emotion regulation, and they have personality characteristics such as determination, perseverance, extroversion, openness to new experience. The personal characteristics of young people with the strategy “Activity in the perception of alternatives” and “Internet addiction” are represented by the choice of negative cognitive emotion regulation strategies, situational conditioning of self-attitude, and attitudes toward problematic Internet use. Practical significance. The research results can be used to improve distance learning programmes, additional education courses, as well as to increase the efficacy of regulation of student's network activity in order to prevent Internet addiction.

Internet addiction and affected factors in primary school students: School-based study

The aim of the study was to determine the prevelance of internet addiction and effected factors in primary school students. This school-based study was a cross-sectional descriptive research design. This study was conducted with 277 students. Prevelans of IA among students was found 10.5%. Variables such as age (≥11 years), internet use in a day (≥3 h), not use internet for education, homework, research, use internet for communication, social network, gaming and mid academic grade accounted for 23% of the internet addiction. It is recommended that children with risk factors for internet addiction should be determined in the early stages, and that school-based intervention programs should be performed for students and their parents to prevent internet addiction.

How does Internet Addiction Affect Adolescent Lifestyles? Results from a School-Based Study in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey

PurposeThe habits acquired during adolescence may continue into adulthood. Therefore, the identification and prevention of Internet addiction is an important goal. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Internet addiction on the lifestyles of adolescents in a sample in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. Design and methodsThe sample consisted of 367 adolescents. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Internet Addiction Scale, and the Healthy Lifestyle Behaviours Scale-II between January and June 2018. This manuscript has been prepared according to Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines. ResultsThe mean Internet addiction score among the included adolescents was found to be moderate. Males aged 17 years with divorced parents and adolescents who have poor relationships with family members and friends had higher average Internet addiction scores. A negative and moderate relationship between Internet addiction and healthy lifestyle behaviours was identified among adolescents. ConclusionsInternet addiction is negatively and moderately predictive of an adolescent's lifestyle. Practice implicationsStrengthening relationships with family and friends can prevent adolescents from developing Internet addictions and increase healthy lifestyle behaviours. Courses should be added to the curriculum that aim to improve the understanding of the risks and benefits (e.g. e-mail, Internet tools) associated with the Internet for both school staff and students. The results of the present study can be used to guide the development of a healthy Internet use program targeted at adolescents for use by school nurses.

Study of the psychological characteristics of the personality of students with varying degrees of severity of Internet addiction

Nowadays, the Internet has a serious impact on the human psyche, and this problem is only gaining momentum. During the COVID-19 pandemic, as part of a forced necessity, the whole world moved to the global information space. There are both pros and cons to such absolute digitalization. We, as psychologists, will be interested in the other side of the coin. On the basis of this, we conducted an empirical study dedicated to the study of the psychological characteristics of the personality of students with varying degrees of severity of Internet addiction. This article will present the results of a study involving 250 students from various universities in Russia. In the course of empirical research, we used the following methods: an author’s questionnaire to determine the amount and quality of time spent by respondents on the Internet; Diagnostics of the tendency to 13 types of addictions (G.V. Lozovaya); Test “Self-assessment of mental states” (G.Yu. Eysenck); Methodology “Diagnostics of typologies of psychological defense” (R. Plutchikas adapted by L.I. Wasserman, O.F. Eryshev, E.B. Klubova, etc.); Methodology for «Determining stress resistance and social adaptation» of Holmes and Rage; Kimberly Young «Internet Addiction Test». The results obtained in the course of the research can be used by practicing psychologists, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists when working with addicts and co-addicts. The presented results can be applied in the practice of the educational process as prevention of Internet addiction.

Теоретико-методическое сопровождение реализации программы профилактики интернет-зависимости у студентов

We present a detailed theoretical and methodological expertise for the implementation of the author's program for students “Safe Internet”. This program is relevant due to the need to study the effectiveness of comprehensive preventive work, including primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of Internet addiction among students in an integrated group in the conditions of the educational process at the university, since this approach helps to reduce the risk of the occurrence and development of this addiction in the student environment. We present the methodological basic principles of the program and its novelty, which fundamentally distinguishes the author's preventive program from similar ones. The form of organizing work with students in this direction and the content part of the program include three blocks: a block on working with the family (focused on educating the family); a block of personal development (focused on revealing students' personal resources that prevent the emergence or development of addiction); a leisure block (focused on productive employment of students and exciting leisure). We disclose and developed methodically each block. The structure of the program is built in such a way that the holistic and consistent implementation of all its constituent parts ensures that the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of Internet-addictive behavior among students is carried out simultaneously in the conditions of the university.

Çok-Kategorili Prevalansın Meta-analizi: Türkiye'de İnternet Bağımlılığı Düzeyinin Prevalansı

Objective: Internet addiction is described as the inability to control his or her use of the internet, which causes psychological disturbances as well as physical problems. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of internet addiction levels in Turkey and besides to detect the changes of the prevalence of the levels with respect to the publication year (before and after 2013), age range (12-18 to 18+), education level (secondary, high, collage and mixed), and geographical region (north, central, east, west, south and mixed). Material and Methods: A meta-analysis of multi-category prevalence was applied on multi-category proportions (not, potentially and addicted) that computed as separate categories and pooled simultaneously. Publication bias examined through visual inspections of funnel and Doi plots, and Luis Furuya-Kanamori (LFK) index was used as a quantitative measure. Subgroup analysis was performed for the selected covariates. MetaXL was preferred in this analysis. Results: The prevalence of internet addiction was changed between 3% and 7%. The prevalence of addiction was increased especially after 2013, among educated people 18 years old who live in the central region of Turkey. As expected, internet addiction prevalence increased as the education level rose (6% [95% CI, 4-10%]). In addition, high potential addiction was observed in the adolescents who lives in the south. Conclusion: The increasing trend indicates the necessity of education on awareness and reasonable steps should be taken to prevent internet addiction.

Association of Internet Addiction with Adolescents' Lifestyle: A National School-Based Survey.

Internet addiction (IA) among adolescents is an issue of growing concern with adverse effects on adolescents’ health and social functioning. This study aims to determine the prevalence of IA among school-going adolescents in Malaysia and its associated factors—specifically, lifestyle factors. A nationwide cross-sectional school-based health survey was conducted in 2017 among 27,497 students from 212 randomly selected secondary schools. Information regarding sociodemography, lifestyle, and internet use was obtained using a self-administered questionnaire. IA was measured using the Malay Version of Internet Addiction Test (MVIAT). The prevalence of internet addiction was 29.0%. A multivariable logistic analysis revealed that inadequate fruit and vegetable intakes, consumed carbonated soft drinks at least once a day, consumed fast food at least three days/week, sedentary behavior, current E-cigarette users, and ever/current alcohol drinkers were lifestyle factors significantly associated with IA. Adolescents from urban schools, of higher school grade, and those whose parents are married but living apart were also found to have a greater risk for internet addiction. A positive association was found between IA with unhealthy dietary and lifestyle behaviors among adolescents. The modification of lifestyle factors needs to be considered while developing strategies and interventions for awareness-raising and prevention of IA among adolescents.

LEGAL REGIME OF CREATION OF A SECURE DIGITAL EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

The relevance of the four-part article is that it examines the legal aspects of the use of information technologies in education, as well as their security, which is the legal basis for regulating these relations. Meanwhile, it should be noted that in recent decades insufficient attention has been paid to these problems in scientific works on jurisprudence. In legal studies the legal constructions of the concepts of Internet addiction, digital educational environment, online training, digital infrastructure, etc. have not yet been investigated. The purpose of the study is: 1) to determine the actual directions for improving legislation on the information security of the educational environment; 2) to substantiate the point of view according to which it is necessary to create and implement programs to educate children and adolescents on the rules of safe behavior in the Internet space and to prevent Internet addiction; 3) to better understand the term safety of the educational environment. In the research process, a diverse set of methodological tools was used: 1) general philosophical methods (dialectical and idealistic); 2) general scientific methods - analysis and synthesis, deduction and induction, analogy, comparison; 3) private (special) methods - logical, comparative legal, formal legal, normative dogmatic; 4) method of interpretation, including a method of problem-theoretical reconstruction. The paper analyzes the main regulatory documents that are used to implement the digital educational environment. The main results of achieving the goal of the study are proposals on: 1) introduction of the concept of safety of the educational environment into the scientific circulation of jurisprudence; 2) relevant legislative initiatives in this area. The theoretical significance of the study. The paper discusses the legal relations prevailing in the field of using information technologies in education, proposes the authors definition of the legal regime for creating a modern and safe information educational environment. The author formulated priority areas for improving this activity. The indicated research results can be used to improve the science of information law.

Prevalence of Internet Addiction during the COVID-19 Outbreak and Its Risk Factors among Junior High School Students in Taiwan.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has significantly disrupted normal activities globally. During this epidemic, people around the world were expected to encounter several mental health challenges. In particular, Internet addiction may become a serious issue among teens. Consequently, this study aimed to examine the prevalence of Internet addiction and identify the psychosocial risk factors during the COVID-19 outbreak. This study was constructed using a cross-sectional design with 1060 participants recruited from among junior high school students around Taiwan using stratified and cluster sampling methods. Taiwan’s first COVID-19 case was diagnosed on 28 January 2020. New cases exploded rapidly in February, and as a result, participants were surveyed during March 2 through 27 March 2020. The prevalence of Internet addiction was found to be 24.4% during this period. High impulsivity, high virtual social support, older in age, low subjective well-being, low family function, and high alexithymia was all independently predictive in the forward logistic regression analyses. The prevalence rate of Internet addiction was high among junior high school students during the COVID-19 outbreak. Results from this study can be used to help mental health organizations and educational agencies design programs that will help prevent Internet addiction in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A cross-sectional study to assess internet addiction among medical undergraduate students of government medical college in Agra, India

Background: Internet has become an essential part of one’s life in this modern era where technology is taking over the world. Risk of Internet addiction (IA) has increased in this year 2020, due to Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, where most of time students are restricted to their homes thus relying on social media to be in touch with outer world, moreover surfing of web, as well as online learning practices increased their screen and internet exposure time. Hence, we conducted a study to assess internet addiction among medical undergraduate students of Government Medical College in Agra.Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 600 medical undergraduate students of S.N. Medical College, Agra. A self-administered, pre-validated questionnaire was used and a total of 488 students responded. E-questionnaire consist of questions about demographic information and internet usage pattern, it also contains Young’s IA test scale to measure internet addiction. Data obtained was analyzed and inferences were drawn.Results: The prevalence of IA was 61.5%. Mean ± Standard deviation (SD) age of the participants was 22.27±1.59 years and 48.36% were males. IA was significantly associated with male students, higher family income group and higher year of academic course. IA was also statistically significant with higher number of years since using internet, greater screen and internet usage time.Conclusion: Internet addiction is a growing problem among students of professional courses especially in medical colleges. IA has psychological, physical, and social impact on student’s life. So, it is necessary to develop strategies for prevention of internet addiction.

Worry and Permissive Parenting in Association with the Development of Internet Addiction in Children.

The Internet has experienced a rapid increase in use globally. Specifically, more than 90% of Hong Kong’s citizens use the Internet, and 70% of children in the age group of 6–17 years have daily access to it. However, internet addiction could pose serious social and health issues. Therefore, conducting research to investigate its causes and risk factors is fundamental. The current study examined the relationship between worry and Internet addiction among children in Hong Kong and investigated the moderating effect of the permissive parenting style on such a relationship. The participants consisted of 227 fourth- and fifth-grade students (120 males, 52.9%) with a mean age of 9.55 (standard deviation (SD) = 0.58) in Hong Kong. Each participant was asked to complete the questionnaires, including the Internet Addiction Test for Internet addiction, the Penn State Worry Questionnaire for Children for worry, and the Parental Authority Questionnaire for the permissive parenting style. The results indicated that worry was related to greater Internet addiction among children. Furthermore, there was a moderating effect of the permissive parenting style such that the positive association between worry and Internet addiction was stronger when the permissive parenting style was higher. Our findings imply that parenting styles are influential in the prevention of Internet addiction.
