Effect of climate change on West Nile virus transmission in Italy: a systematic review

Abstract Background West Nile Virus (WNV) is a pathogen transmitted by mosquitoes of the Culex genus, affecting both humans and animals such as horses and birds. The prevalence of WNV infection has increased dramatically in recent years in Europe, especially in Italy, and has been related to climate and environmental changes linked to global warming. Our review aims to assess the relation between the spread of WNV in Italy and the different climate change-related factors. Methods We conducted a literature search in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Scopus databases, actualised as of 20 February 2024, using as search terms WNV, its vectors and climate change, and limiting our analysis to studies conducted in to avoid an overly heterogeneous setting. We registered the review in PROSPERO (CRD42023430636). Results Of the 252 unique records retrieved, we eventually included 25 articles after full-text screening. These studies were published between 2011 and 2023 and evaluated the distribution of WNV or its vectors according to various climatic and environmental factors. Despite rather heterogeneous results, we found a consistently positive association with temperature, especially spring temperature, agricultural land use, demography, and soil moisture, and a negative one with evapotranspiration and wind, while the relationship with other environmental variables and water cycle-related factors was weak, null or conflicting. Conclusions Despite some inconsistencies in the results, likely related to differences in study methodologies as well as complex environmental interactions, we found unequivocal evidence that climate change-related factors, such as the lengthening of the warm season, extensive farming, and invasive human activities towards natural environments, favour WNV spread in Italy. Consequently, actions against global warming and preservation of natural environments may counteract the WNV epidemic. INCORPORATING LESSON PLAN IN DEVELOPING AN ITINERARY FOR A TOUR PACKAGE TO PROMOTE LOCAL CULTURE: A CASE STUDY IN KAMPOENG WISATA CINANGNENG, BOGOR REGENCY

Studies on tourism in Bogor have focussed on community-based tourism, natural and outdoor tourism, the preservation of natural environment and culture of its people. This research in particular focuses on specifically combining local culture and language learning.The aim of this study is to shed light on how lesson plans can be incorporated in developing existing tour packages of a tourist attraction that promotes local culture. It proposes lesson plan by Brown and the notion of Engage-Study-Activate by Harmer. Using qualitative approach, Kampoeng Wisata Cinangneng located in Bogor Regency is chosen as case study. As the tour packages in Kampung Wisata Cinangneng are popular amongst elementary school students to teenagers, the lesson plans are limited to these age groups. Data collection techniques applied in this study were literature studies, observations, interview and documentation. The findings also support the use of six stages for analysis to design and develop an itinerary as part of a tour package. The stages involve determining a tourist attraction that promote local culture, studying its tour packages or programs to seek the target market and what it advertises, identifying unique local culture advocated from the tourist destination, determining local culture which can be incorporated with language learning, researching further the local culture selected. The last stage entails, applying Browns’ lesson plan and Harmers’ Engage-Study-Activate in the procedure. The stages of analysis proposed is seen crucial to make tour packages not only entertaining but also have educational value. In this case, preserving and promoting local culture. Drawing on the results, this study gives an advantage in the applicability of writing a lesson plan that focuses on local culture and language learning for an itinerary.

The Role of Ecopreneurship in Bali’s Sustainable Tourism Development: Insights into Government Policy, Tourist Awareness and Preferences

There are numerous environmental issues in Bali, a popular tourist destination in Indonesia, including the problems of waste, critical land, beach abrasion, coral reef destruction and water contamination, all attributed to the rapid expansion of the tourism industry. Ecotourism is one of the solutions to address these concerns, and the initiatives taken involve ecopreneurship, the process of starting and running green firms that support sustainable tourism growth in Bali. The goal of ecopreneurship in the tourism industry is to create and run enterprises that have as minimum negative environmental impacts as possible, while maximising positive social and economic consequences. This is done through improvements on both public policies and tourist preferences, to promote a sustainable tourism development. A mixed method was used, combining SEM PLS, Path Methods, and qualitative research, with comprehensive interviews conducted among ecopreneurs, government agencies, tourists, and academics in Bali. Ecopreneurship variables, comprising environmentally friendly products and services, green technology innovation, environmental and natural resource management, local community involvement, environmental education and awareness, waste and emission management, collaboration and partnerships, measurement of environmental performance and sustainability, moderated by the government policy and tourist awareness and preference, were found to have a significant influence on sustainable tourism variables, namely, natural environment preservation, social welfare and culture, local economic empowerment, resource management and environmental impact reduction, local community participation and public consultation.

Positive impacts of COVID-19 Lock down in Bangladesh: An online investigation

BackgroundThis research focuses on the positive impacts of the COVID-19 lockdown on society and the environment, despite acknowledging the widespread negative effects of the pandemic and lockdown measures. The research was aimed at pinpointing and evaluating the beneficial results stemming from these measures. MethodData for the study was collected through an online survey distributed via Google forms to adults over the age of 18 across the country. A total of 1230 participants completed the survey, mostly from rural areas (61.7%), providing valuable insights for analysis. The questionnaire encompassed personal, family, and cohesive social data, along with information on the environment and biodiversity. The study utilized structural equation modeling (SEM) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to analyze the data and examine correlations between variables. ResultsThe findings indicated that the COVID-19 lockdown had positive implications for individuals and society, leading to increased health consciousness, improved family relationships, and constructive social attitudes. Moreover, restrictions on access to natural tourist destinations and parks during the lockdown contributed to positive changes in biodiversity. These results highlight the importance of adopting appropriate measures during pandemics to foster personal and social well-being, as well as the preservation of natural environments and biodiversity. ConclusionThis study emphasizes the need for further research to promote sustainable living in similar situations. By understanding the data appropriately, individuals can play a constructive role in future pandemics, leading to positive outcomes for both society and the environment.

Islamic Eco-Theological as Local Wisdom for The Preservation of Natural Environment

<p>Environmental damage that has become a global problem not only affects people's lives, but also encourages many communities and researchers to find solutions to preserve the natural environment. Indigenous local wisdom is one way that is believed to be able to prevent environmental damage because it is able to respect and live in friendship with nature. This study examined the concept of ecotheology in Pamali as the indigenous people of Kampung Dukuh's local wisdom in preserving the natural environment. This research used a case study method intended to analyse the practice of environmental conservation in Kampung Dukuh based on pamali. Interviews, direct observation, and involved observation were used to collect data for this study. In line with the concept of ecotheology that connects humans, God and nature, pamali as local wisdom of the indigenous people of Kampung Dukuh can simplify and facilitate indigenous people in applying ecotheology as an effort to maintain the balance of life and the preservation of natural environments such as forests.</p>

GEOGRAPHICAL CONTEXT AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT PRESERVATION IN LOCAL CULTURE (A study on the Ritual of Penti in Manggarai, Flores NTT)

Indonesia has a great number of local cultures. Such local cultures exist along with the values, norms, and thought of the society. One of the local culture in question is Penti ceremony that is conducted anually by Manggaraian people in the west of Flores. This study was an attempt to reveal the the geographical context found in the ritual of penti ceremony. To gather the data, interview and observation were carried out and were analyzed in some stages namely data reduction, data display and verfication. The results have shown that the geographical context in the penti covers both natural spatial and social aspects. The natural spatial aspect is concerned with the selection of the locations where the the ritual of penti is carried out. The selected locations were regarded as media for communication and.were as reflections of interpersonal relations and the cosmological view of the Manggarain community towards nature. Meanwhile, the social aspect regulates the social relations of the community which is manifested in the form of norms, ethics, and prohibitions. As a conclusion, the geographical context in the ritual of penti is closely related to natural environment preservation and social life sustainbility.

The role of religious narratives and religious orientation towards concerns for the natural environment and animal welfare.

Several studies show that religion hinders concerns for the natural environment preservation. Others, however, have found that the belief in God or the identification with a particular religion is not associated with measures for environmental concerns. This study investigates the influence of religious narrative framing and the relation between Allport's intrinsic personal (IP) and extrinsic social (ES) religious orientation towards general environmental apathy (GEA) and acceptability for harming animals (AIS). This study surveyed 657 teachers and school staff in East Java, Indonesia. Using ANOVA, we find that religious narrative affects participant's GEA and AIS. Participants in stewardship narrative group have significantly lower GEA and AIS compared to participants in human dominance and the non-narratives control group. Using multiple regression, we also confirm the persistence of religious narrative's influence towards GEA. In addition, lower GEA and AIS correlate with higher IP and lower ES. Lastly, we identify and discuss significant demographic and other determinants relation to GEA and AIS.

NEW ECOLOGICAL THINKING DEVELOPMENT AS A WAY TO ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION

The article focuses on the actual global problem of ecological education and the basic principles of preservation of natural environment. The development of aims and tasks of ecological training of a teacher, which has to understand the importance of ecological education in accordance with modern approaches, which are acknowledged in international pedagogical practice. It is highlighted that the qualification of a teacher of any occupation should guarantee the professional readiness to realizing the tasks of ecological education. Special attention is paid to ecological education which is to supply a young generation with scientific knowledge about intercommunication of nature and society. It also should help young people to understand the many-sided value of nature for the society on the whole and everybody in particular, and to make a requirement in socializing with nature, to teach them the standards of correct conduct in the process of co-operating with the nature, to develop aspiration and ability to actively participate in preserving the environment.

Relationship Pattern among Scientific Literacy, Thematic, and Scientific Materials in Online Learning

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship among scientific, thematic learning materials, and scientific literacy integrated in online learning carried out in three different primary schools, namely MI Al-Ikhlas, Luqman Al-Hakim Integral Elementary School, and at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 1 Sumenep in Sumenep Regency. Learning science is with a scientific approach in primary school can be meant as student's mastery of knowledge about scientific, thematic, and scientific literacy, which is learned from facts, principles, and the discovery process during online learning. However, the science material given must be adapteded to the age and characteristics of the students concerned, meaning that science material is given to students and adjusted to the grade level, so that mastery of science can be beneficial both for the students and for the natural environment preservation around them. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research with a survey approach. The research population was 60 teachers and 280 students from three different schools, while the sample of this study consisted of 30 teachers and 150 students from whom the samples were taken using probability sampling. The data collection techniques in this study were in the forms of questionnaires and interview techniques for the teachers and students to complete the data. The research results showed that in the aspect of scientific literacy, namely explaining problems scientifically was 29.5%, interpreting data scientifically was 19%, communicating data scientifically was 40%, planning scientific investigations was 29.5%, carrying out scientific investigations was 33 %, and evaluated scientific investigations was 19%. These data indicate that there are still problems in the application of scientific, thematic, and scientific literacy during the pandemic period for students and thus, requires follow-up for solution

A comparison study of fuzzy-based multiple-criteria decision-making methods to evaluating green concept alternatives in a new product development environment

PurposeIn this paper, the four popular multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods in fuzzy environment are utilized to reflect the vagueness and uncertainty on the judgments of decision-makers (DMs), because the crisp pairwise comparison in these conventional MCDM methods seems to be insufficient and imprecise to capture the right judgments of DMs. Of these methods, as Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (F-AHP) is used to calculate criteria weights, the other methods; Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (F-TOPSIS), Fuzzy Grey relational analysis (F-GRA) and Fuzzy Preference Ranking Organization METhod for Enrichment of Evaluations (F- PROMETHEE II) are used to rank alternatives in the three different ways for a comparative study.Design/methodology/approachThe demand for green products has dramatically increased because the importance and public awareness of the preservation of natural environment was taken into consideration much more in the last two decades. As a result of this, especially manufacturing companies have been forced to design more green products, resulting in a problem of how they incorporate environmental issues into their design and evaluate concept options. The need for the practical decision-making tools to address this problem is rapidly evolving since the problem turns into an MCDM problem in the presence of a set of green concept alternatives and criteria.FindingsThe incorporation of fuzzy set theory into these methods is discussed on a real-life case study, and a comparative analysis is done by using its numerical results in which the three fuzzy-based methods reveal the same outcomes (or rankings), while F-GRA requires less computational steps. Moreover, more detailed analyses on the numerical results of the case study are completed on the normalization methods, distance metrics, aggregation functions, defuzzification methods and other issues.Research limitations/implicationsThe designing and manufacturing environmental-friendly products in a product design process has been a vital issue for many companies which take care of reflecting environmental issues into their product design and meeting standards of recent green guidelines. These companies have utilized these guidelines by following special procedures at the design phase. Along the design process consisting of various steps, the environmental issues have been considered an important factor in the end-of-life of products since it can reduce the impact on the nature. In the stage of developing a new product with the aim of environmental-friendly design, the green thinking should be incorporated as early as possible in the process.Practical implicationsThe case study was inspired from the previous work of the author, which was realized in a hot runner systems manufacturer, used in injection molding systems in a Canada. In a new product development process, the back- and front-ends of development efforts mainly determine the following criteria: cost, risk, quality and green used in this paper. The case study showed that the three fuzzy MCDM methods come to the same ranking outcomes. F-GRA has a better time complexity compared to the other two methods and uses a smaller number of computational steps. Moreover, a comparative analysis of the three F-MCDM methods; F-PROMETHEE II, F-TOPSIS and F-GRA used in ranking for green concept alternatives using the numerical results of the case study. For the case study; as seen in table 20, the three F-MCDM methods produced the numerical results on the rankings of the green concept alternatives as follows; {Concept A-Concept C–Concept B–Concept D}.Social implicationsInclusion of environmental-related criteria into concept selection problem has been gaining increasing importance in the last decade. Therefore, to facilitate necessary calculations in applying each method especially with its fuzzy extension, it can be developed a knowledge-based (KB) or an expert system (ES) to help the DMs make the required calculations of each method, and interpret its results with detailed analysis.Originality/valueThe objective of the research was to propose a F-AHP based F-MCDM approach to green concept selection problem through F-PROMETHEE II, F-TOPSIS and F-GRA methods. As the F-AHP is used to weight evaluation criteria, the other methods are respectively used for ranking the concept alternatives and determine the best concept alternative.

ТЕНДЕНЦІЇ РОЗВИТКУ ЕКОЛОГІЧНОГО ТУРИЗМУ У ПОЛЬСЬКИХ ТАТРАХ ТА УКРАЇНСЬКИХ КАРПАТАХ

The article discusses the development of ecological tourism in the Polish Tatras and the Ukrainian Carpathians. Eco-tourism in the international tourism industry is developing rapidly and starts taking an important place in the world tourism market. According to scientists and experts in this field - eco-tourism is going to be developed fast without slowing down. Such trends have a positive impact on the economic development of countries and saving natural tourist resources. Particular attention is paid to the national nature parks of the Ukrainian Carpathians and Polish Tatras. They form the basis for the growth of ecological tourism and preservation of natural environment. The research of the territorial and functional organization of tourist activities in the Polish Tatras was made from the standpoint of development of the territory, tourist routes and especially legal support. It is noted that ecological tourism is allowed in nature reserves in Poland, but there are very strict restrictions. In particular, it is forbidden to use auto-moto transport, set up tents, set fires, pick berries and mushrooms, etc. Nature reserves employees pay special attention for tourists to obey the rules and their proper behavior. In case of breaking rules, tourists are immediately punished with large administrative penalty. The current condition of mountain ecological tourism in the Ukrainian Carpathians is also learned. Comparing to ecotourism in the Republic of Poland, where everything is regulated and controlled, in Ukraine the recreational load increases every year. The nature of the Carpathians is negatively affected by illegal new types of recreational services, including jeeps, ATVs and motorcycles. In addition, there is a permissive atmosphere in the Ukrainian mountains. Tourists can set up tents and campfires, swim in mountain lakes and much more almost anywhere. All this will lead to destruction of the Ukrainian Carpathians. This situation is making scientists, environmentalists, public and people of tourism industry of Ukraine to be on guard. Under such conditions, the gene pool and the attraction of mountain areas are going to be lost. There are proposed methods based on the use of foreign experience to minimize the negative impact on the natural environment of the Ukrainian Carpathians.

A Tale of Two FloodsReflections on Biological Sustainability Regina Linder (bio) Keywords Biodiversity, climate change, horizontal gene transfer (HGT), microbial genetics, microbiome, narrative power, Noah's Ark, Superstorm Sandy, zoonosis INTRODUCTION1 In May 2019, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), an internationally funded U.N.-backed group, prepared a report summarizing thousands of biodiversity studies. IPBES found that, in addition to the twenty percent of Earth's plant and animal life that have disappeared over the past century, as many as one million ADDITIONAL plant and animal species are at risk of extinction.2 The causes the authors cite for this loss of habitats are all driven by human activity: a doubling of the human population in the last fifty years, increased food production, overfishing, global trade, and climate change. As the pandemic caused by COVID-19 continues, further investigations have identified interactions among climate, biodiversity, and the development of pathogenic microorganisms as a further threat capable of widespread human harm.3 Writing in response to the 2019 IPBES report, New York Times climate reporter Brad Plumer reflected upon both the practical toll such a loss would take on society as well as the consequences of the disappearance of the "spiritual or inspirational value" of nature, "[which] can be difficult to quantify."4 Our oldest stories confirm the essential relationship between human well-being and the preservation of natural environments and their inhabitants. Flood stories from Asia, Australia, the Americas, and the Near East—including the biblical story of Noah—can be found throughout ancient literature. In the Huxley Memorial Lecture of 1916, anthropologist James Frazer described these narratives as "contemporary [End Page 406] folklore."5 Reframing these myths as chronicles about microbial diversity had personal resonance for me as a scientist who studies microorganisms. Applying current knowledge of molecular biology to past floods—mythological or otherwise—is impossible. Today, however, we have the necessary tools to explore the biological, cultural, and emotional impact of catastrophic weather events on human communities. What do we mean when we talk about the loss of life forms? How can we interpret the observations of our ancient ancestors through a lens of contemporary molecular biology? Taxonomic or ecological change, especially among microbial species, can be explained by physical/chemical changes and/or transfer of nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) between organisms. Such events may take place in environments like water or within organisms themselves. How does contemporary scientific knowledge inform our ideas and subjective reactions to the natural losses we experience? Examples that emerge from a more recent flood story help to make the ancient ones accessible. These and similar narratives exercise a unique influence on human imagination, linking science with the sense of loss underlying ecological damage.6 FLOOD STORIES ACROSS TIME AND CULTURES The image of a paternal Noah, shepherding pairs of animals onto the ark he designed to protect them from forty days of rain, is beloved by children across cultures. Best known from the biblical Genesis story, this narrative forms the basis of the Islamic, Christian, and Jewish interpretations of the flood event, which respectively portray Noah as a prophet, a righteous preacher, or an ordinary man heeding God.7 However, the Abrahamic narratives were long preceded by "deluge" or flood stories in Near Eastern literature. Mesopotamian Gilgamesh poems (2100–2000 BC) and the Babylonian Atrahasis Epic that followed tell of a flood hero with characteristics of a god but relate logistical details very similar to the Genesis chronicle.8 Historians believe these stories are precursors of the biblical version, transmitted by the people of Haran, the region from which the Patriarch Abraham would emerge.9 All versions of the story agree that the destruction of the earth by water resulted from human failing, including violence and corruption.10 In the aftermath of the deluge, it can be argued that a new and more modern order emerges. Lifespans no longer reach the exceptional 1000 years that Noah achieves, as future Patriarchs and Matriarchs typically live about one tenth of that. Free market mechanism as a tool of economic authority in overcoming society and state institutions

The paper critically analyzes the negative consequences of free market orientation, as a key mechanism for organizing and regulating the economy, as a tool which by itself can meet the full range of social needs, including the development of scientific and technological progress, economic modernization, social justice, effective use of natural resource potential, preservation of natural environment, reproduction of labor force and ensuring the solution of other acute socio-economic problems. The mechanism of disorientation of economic interaction participants through imposing on society the ideas of economy liberalization is revealed, This mechanism keeps out of sight the technology of carrying out economic wars by the most powerful subjects of economic competitions for the purpose of conquest of the markets, actives or other resources contributing to the growth of social contrasts in society, as well as the concentration of money and power in the growing circle of participants in economic competition. It is determined that the goals and strategies of economic competitors are in conflict with the interests of society, because the means of realization of their aspirations are subjected to the law of energy conservation, but not to public morality or even existing laws, if there are no effective coercive mechanisms. The crucial role played by state institutions in the process of organizing economic entities in order to achieve socially significant goals and implement important strategies for society are investigated. The importance of the subjectivity of the state in the process of functioning and development of the economy is substantiated. The analysis of achieving positive results in the economy due to purposeful and systematic work of state institutions in the countries that have succeeded in ensuring stable development, reducing social contrasts, revolutionary transformations in their own economic complex, relying on effective organization of innovation in their countries is carried out.

Пандемия в контексте экологического сознания

The article is directly related to the subject of common interest — COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly impacts the entire world community. In the paper, we consider the spread of coronavirus infection as one of the consequences of active use of the natural environment and its resources by humans. Psychologically, the current ecological crisis stems from the regularities of the human consciousness formation. The present study empirically examines the impact of the COVID-19 hazard estimation on the nature-human interaction assessment. The study involved 372 participants (42% men and 58% women), the mean age of the subjects was 33.9 years (SD = 11.4 years). The data obtained shows that the perception of COVID-19 as a serious disease is associated with the apprehension of nature as adverse for humans, fear of natural forces (F = 12.307; p < 0.001), — perceptions characterizing the archaic type of environmental consciousness. At the same time, younger people assess the negative impact of nature on humans significantly lower than the older respondents (chi-square = 14.041; p < 0.001), and at the same time, recognizing the danger of the coronavirus, they are concerned about the natural environment preservation, demonstrating an ecocentric type of environmental consciousness.

ECOART THROUGH VARIOUS APPROACHES

This research was done as an effort to observe, write, and publicize eco-activism and achievements by a number of eco-actors in the midst of an increasingly natural environmental crisis, to be used as stimuli and teaching materials for the course of EcoArt. A number of artists practicing ecoartivism were purposively selected as a sample; their works and achievements are exposed. They are Endar Progresto, Widya Purwoko, Bernadeta Pudiasminarsih (Dyas Ecoprint), and Nasirun. These eco-activists not only work ecologically real, but also creatively communicate ecological values to surrounding communities to change. Nevertheless campaigning this environmental crisis for the better cannot be done partially, but must be jointly supported, organized and socialised continuously. For this reason, their works and achievements, as well as their individual ecoartivism need to be exposed, documented, and assembled as one unit as part of selected subjects of the EcoArt Course in the Fine Arts Department of the Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, to generate enthusiasm in articulating or representing ecological concerns for ecosystem sustainability and preservation of natural environment through Art.

Antibacterial and cytotoxicity activities of bioactive compounds from Micrococcus species OUS9 isolated from sea water

Bacterial screenings were collected from Nellore coastal regions of Bapatla and Vishakhapatnam from south India. Altogether, 29 bacterial isolates were attained from seawater and sediment samples consuming Zobel-culture media (pH = 7.3 ± 0.2) and incubated at 27 °C of temperature. Among these 29 bacterial isolates, 3 bacterial strains were shown the highest zone of inhibition producing the molecular characterization. The strains of Micrococcus species OUS9 was demonstrated to be potential. To characterize such activity and recognize the promising isolates, further research is required. This new natural biological product is also used in enormous sectors, pharmaceutical and food industries for preservation of natural environment. This study has confirmed that the bacteria isolates environment for halophilic bacterial growth, where there are numerous bacterial communities and many industrial applications are possible.

A Spatial Approach for Framing the Development of Tourism: Bahía Solano – Colombia

Abstract The article explores the natural context and the geographical conditions for developing tourism and for designing sectorial plans. The objective is to offer basic visual rendering as a resource for appreciating the natural environs in which the tourist activity evolves and use such resource as useful input during the planning and designing exercises. The methodology relies on the application of cartographic and spatial tools as instruments for recognising the territory and the natural landscape. The results render the current condition of natural resources and the territorial reality, as a general frame for proposing sustainable strategies of tourism planning. The contribution of the analysis can be appreciated amid the scarcity of local and specific cartographic analysis, and the precarious stock of inputs that could guide the tourism and the territorial planning in lagged territories. An overwhelming conclusion of our exercise is that the awarness and valuations of natural endowments are key elements for preserving the environment and for applying an adequate planning strategy in order to reconcile the economic necessities and the preservation of natural environment.

Australian policies on water management and climate change: are they supporting the sustainable development goals and improved health and well-being?

BackgroundSustainable management of the natural environment is essential. Continued environmental degradation will lead to worsened health outcomes in countries and across generations. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a framework for viewing the preservation of natural environments and the promotion of health, well-being and health equity as interconnected pursuits. Within the SDG framework the goals of promoting environmental sustainability and human health are unified through attention to the social determinants of health and health equity (SDH/HE). This paper presents findings from a document analysis of all Australian environment sector policies and selected legislation to examine whether and how current approaches support progress toward achieving SDG goals on water, climate change, and marine ecosystems (Goals 6, 13 and 14), and to consider implications for health and health equity.ResultsConsideration of a broad range of SDH/HE was evident in the analysed documents. Related collaborations between environment and health sectors were identified, but the bulk of proposed actions on SDH/HE were initiated by the environment sector as part of its core business. Strengths of Australian policy in regard to SDGs 6, 13 and 14 are reflected in recognition of the effects of climate change, a strong cohesive approach to marine park protection, and recognition of the need to protect existing water and sanitation systems from future threats. However, climate change strategies focus predominately on resilience, adaptation and heat related health effects, rather than on more comprehensive mitigation policies. The findings emphasise the importance of strengthened cross-sectoral action to address both the drivers and effects of environmental degradation. A lack of policy coherence between jurisdictions was also evident in several areas, compounded by inadequate national guidance, where vague strategies and non-specific devolution of responsibilities are likely to compromise coordination and accountability.ConclusionsEvidence on planetary health recognises the interconnectedness of environmental and human health and, as such, suggests that ineffective management of climate change and water pose serious risks to both the natural environment and human well-being. To address these risks more effectively, and to achieve the SDGs, our findings indicate that cross-jurisdiction policy coherence and national coordination must be improved. In addition, more action to address global inequities is required, along with more comprehensive approaches to climate change mitigation.

Preservation of the natural potential of vegetation. Assessment in landscape planning

The priority purpose of landscape planning is preservation of natural environment with existing ecosystem interrelations under prevailing conditions for the territory development. Analysis of the contemporary state of plant cover is component part of the comprehensive program of studies on landscape planning, which reveals dynamics of vegetation, territorial differentiation, biological variety, degree of territory disturbance communities, and potential of their preservation. Natural stability of vegetation, which is supported not only at the level of biocenosis, but also at the level of spatial current connections of contemporary landscape, is one of the main conditions of preserving the biotope structure. Particularities of development and nature restoration determine ecologically favorable conditions of existence and renewal of plant cover structure. External disturbing factors set additional constraints on the motion of natural dynamics, slowing down restoration or completely leading to irreversible changes. The evaluation of sustainability of plant communities for the southern part of the Lake Baikal coast was carried out on the basis of expert estimation for multifactoral impacts upon dynamics and was represented using a cartographic method in the form of integrated areas of the sustainability of plant communities. Cartographic interpretation of contemporary vegetation state of investigated territory, the determining of the integrated areas of plant community’s sustainability, and further sequential carrying out of interconnected estimation maps, makes possible to differentiate territory in the categories of landscape planning for the complex preservation of natural environment and to develop the necessary measures for stabilization.

SUSTAINABLE ECOLOGICAL TOURISM REGIONAL OF DISASTER RESPONSE IN PACITAN, EAST JAVA

<p><em>Pacitan Regency is an area that has a huge potential for tourism that is growing very rapidly. The beach has a beautiful natural landscape, as a natural geopark and gets wide publications through social media. The environment has the potential to threaten serious damage if the tourism area is not planned properly. Pacitan area is also an area with high risk of earthquake and tsunami natural disasters. Tourism development can adversely affect environmental and socio-cultural changes. Natural disasters can have a high risk of loss of life and material. This research aims to produce a sustainability development planning concept, able to prosper the local community and be responsive to natural disasters. The research method uses a advocacy-participatory paradigm and a Qualitative research strategies that combine grounded observation techniques and phenomenology. Research analysis uses SWOT to find problem solutions. </em><em>This research produced a sustainable ecological development concept and disaster response planning in the Pacitan tourism area. The concept emphasizes the socio-cultural and economy development of local communities and the natural environment preservation. The concept can be used as a guide to regional planning models and partial planning in Pacitan tourism areas on the future</em></p>
