I believe that many climatic models proposed in the past have been based upon questionable interpretations of nonmeteoro-logical evidence. In particular, the past presence of lakes in areas dry today, generally taken to indicate absolutely wetter conditions, may have had more than one climatic explanation. Several recent studies challenging traditional ideas about Pleistocene climates are cited, and it is suggested that only those climatic models that appear feasible in terms of known atmospheric behavior and that logically explain all of the evidence are t o be taken seriously.
