Personal recall has, moreover, been stimulated, clarified, corrected, brought up to date, and greatly elaborated by the contribution of new material, by being submitted for discussion to the Tibetan members of the SeminSr on Tibetan Sodety and Culture-see report “A Seminar on Tibetan Society and Culture,” Current Anthropology, October 1963–to all of whom I am extremely grateful. I am indebted, moreover, to the Far Eastern and Russian Institute, University of Washmton, and The Rockefeller Foundation for the opportunity to have worked with the Seminar of Tibetan Society and Culture, and especially to the Wennet–Gren Foundation for having made it possible to continue research on Tibetan nomadism and write this paper.
