Use of Renewable Energy to Enhance Firm Performance: A Systematic Review

This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) combined with bibliometric and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodologies to investigate the factors influencing the use of renewable energy in enhancing firm performance. An analysis of 27 selected articles reveals three key factors: firm innovation, governance, and regulation. The study further emphasizes the benefits of renewable energy adoption across various business performance metrics, including firm profit, financial, logistics, and sustainable performance. The novelty of this paper lies in its comprehensive integration of bibliometrics analysis with PRISMA to bridge gaps in existing literature. It contributes to the field by offering insights into the complex relationship between renewable energy use and firm performance, underscoring the significance of continued investigation to resolve inconsistencies and deepen understanding.

Use of Biomarkers in Nutrition Intervention Studies of Children: A Scoping Review

Obesity in youth is an increasingly prevalent public health concern worldwide. Lifestyle interventions aim to help participants establish healthy habits and reduce obesity-related disease risk by targeting physical activity and dietary habits. Most studies assess weight loss, but biomarkers may enable more rapid and comprehensive assessment of intervention success. This scoping review aims to synthesize the published literature on which biomarkers are assessed during interventions for pediatric obesity to inform future use. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A literature search of five databases conducted in February 2022 returned 1579 unique and relevant articles published between 2006 and 2021. After screening titles, abstracts, and full text, four reviewers determined that 43 studies met eligibility requirements. Quality screening was conducted, and 97.7% of papers were of fair or good quality. Of the 43 studies, 47% reported measures of adipose-related signaling molecules inclusive of adipokines, 74% included insulin-related biomarkers, 63% reported lipid-related biomarkers, 40% reported proinflammatory cytokine biomarkers, 12% reported measures of skin and/or plasma carotenoids, 40% measured blood pressure, and 21% included liver enzymes. Sixty-seven percent of studies measured biomarkers in whole blood, 40% measured biomarkers in plasma, 56% measured biomarkers in serum, and 2% measured biomarkers in urine. This work summarizes the current use of biomarkers in lifestyle intervention studies enrolling children. These biomarkers could be clinically relevant for pediatric weight management interventions.

Analyzing Sports Biomechanics of Hurdling Training: A Systematic Review

Background. Hurdling is a dynamic and technically demanding sport within athletics. It requires a unique combination of speed, agility, coordination, and strength to support good technique and achievement. The ability to excel in this sport depends on the athlete’s mastery of these components, making it an interesting subject for sports science research. Objectives. This study aimed to evaluate existing research on sports biomechanics as it relates to improving hurdling performance. Materials and methods. The study was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology of the relevant literature. A total of 15 articles published between 1990 and 2023 were identified as relevant to the focus of the study and selected for in-depth analysis. Results. The findings showed that sports biomechanics research in hurdling training has mainly concentrated on the following key areas: kinematics analysis, the application of technology, and the potential injury studies. Although significant progress has been made in understanding the biomechanics of hurdling training, this study suggests the need for further and more comprehensive research. The research mentioned should delve deeper into the biomechanical factors influencing performance in order to develop optimal training methods and injury prevention strategies. Conclusions. This review underscores the importance of continued research in this area, as it has the potential to enhance training approaches and improve athletic performance in hurdling.

Post-COVID-19 Vaccination Meningitis and Meningoencephalitis: A Systematic Review of Case Series and Case Reports.

Meningitis and meningoencephalitis, as inflammatory diseases of the brain parenchyma, are serious events reported sporadically after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination. However, there is a lack of systematic reviews consolidating these reported cases. By using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a comprehensive search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science databases. All case reports and series discussing the emergence of meningitis and meningoencephalitis after COVID-19 vaccination were included and evaluated using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tool. Out of 967 records, 27 studies with 31 patients were eventually included. The most commonly reported symptoms were headaches and fever. About one-third of the patients exhibited positive meningeal signs. Most of the findings in the computed tomography scans and magnetic resonance images revealed no significant changes or enhancement in the leptomeninges. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis dominantly suggested aseptic meningitis, and about 80.6% of the patients experienced a full recovery. After a detailed review of the reported cases, further research is needed to establish a definitive correlation between meningitis and COVID-19 vaccination on a larger scale.

Association between forensic DNA and odontology in human identification during mass disaster: a systematic review

BACKGROUND: According to the literature, forensic odontology is one of the most effective and affordable scientific techniques for identifying victims of mass disasters. This research methodically reviews the role and function of forensic odontologists in several global mass disasters. Forensic DNA in odontology is associated with the importance of its application in the identification of humans of mass disasters. As the crime rate continues to rise, the field of forensic medicine has evolved significantly. Forensic dentists play a pivotal role in various areas of crime scene investigations, thereby helping solve innumerable mysteries. AIM: The study aimed to increase the body of knowledge for future research on forensic odontology by conducting a systematic review search to investigate possible forensic DNA in odontology associated with the importance of its application in the identification of humans of mass disasters. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect, were analyzed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) quality scale. The literature search, conducted until February 2024, informed important research choices. RESULTS: A total of 16 (100%) studies related to forensic DNA of mass disasters were identified. Of these, only seven (43.75%) articles related to dental DNA were included in this review. Of the 4,808 articles obtained, 138 duplicates or irrelevant articles were eliminated. Following a full-text review, seven studies were selected based on eligibility criteria. The highest percentage of victims was identified using dental DNA. In a few studies, some samples were insufficient for complete DNA profiling due to factors such as the method of DNA extraction. CONCLUSION: Forensic odontology has played a significant role in the identification of victims of several mass disasters around the world. Although teeth are an excellent source of DNA for humans, future studies with larger sample sizes, appropriate control groups, and standardized techniques of DNA extraction need to be conducted.

Movement Awareness Therapies in Eating Disorders: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Given the rising prevalence and complexity of eating disorders, a comprehensive multidisciplinary holistic approach is necessary. This work aimed to assess the effectiveness of body and movement awareness therapies in patients with eating disorders. Search strategy was undertaken using several scientific health databases. Articles were eligible if they were randomized controlled trials analyzing the effects of movement and body awareness therapies in eating disorders. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement for systematic reviews was followed and the risk of bias was assessed using the "Cochrane Collaboration Tool to assess the risk of bias." 11 articles met the inclusion criteria, including 437 patients. No high-quality randomized controlled trials were found. Forest plot analysis of the Eating Disorder Examination scale showed a difference favors to body awareness therapies but not significantly neither homogeneous. The interventions analyzed included yoga, body awareness therapy, dance, and psychomotor therapy. Body awareness therapies provide some additional benefits for eating disorder symptoms, such as emotion regulation, self-criticism, self-confidence, self-compassion, anxiety, body attitude, eating disorder symptoms, and quality of life.

Safety and efficacy of sertraline in depression among adults undergoing dialysis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: Depression is prevalent among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing dialysis, with significant implications for their quality of life and treatment compliance. Traditional treatments for depression, including various therapies and pharmacological interventions, have limitations due to their adverse effects. Sertraline, a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI), offers a promising alternative, but its efficacy and safety in this population require thorough evaluation. Objective: This meta-analysis aims to assess the effectiveness and adverse effects of sertraline in treating depressive episodes in dialysis patients compared to placebo. Methods: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted a comprehensive search of databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Science Direct, up to June 20, 2024. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared sertraline with placebo in dialysis patients with depression. Two researchers independently performed data extraction and risk of bias assessment. Statistical analysis was conducted using ReviewManager 5.4.1, employing a random effects model. Results: Four RCTs involving 468 participants were included. Sertraline significantly reduced depressive symptoms, as measured by the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS) and Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) scores, at 6 and 12 weeks compared to placebo. Improvements in kidney disease-specific quality of life (KDQOL-36) scores were also noted. However, sertraline was associated with a higher risk of adverse events compared to placebo. Conclusions: Sertraline effectively reduces depressive symptoms and improves the quality of life in dialysis patients with ESRD. Despite the increased risk of adverse events, the overall benefits make sertraline a viable treatment option for this population. Larger, more comprehensive studies are needed to confirm these findings and optimize sertraline use in clinical practice.

In-Bed Monitoring: A Systematic Review of the Evaluation of In-Bed Movements Through Bed Sensors

The growing popularity of smart beds and devices for remote healthcare monitoring is based on advances in artificial intelligence (AI) applications. This systematic review aims to evaluate and synthesize the growing literature on the use of machine learning (ML) techniques to characterize patient in-bed movements and bedsore development. This review is conducted according to the principles of PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and is registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO CRD42022314329). The search was performed through nine scientific databases. The review included 78 articles, including 142 ML models. The applied ML models revealed significant heterogeneity in the various methodologies used to identify and classify patient behaviors and postures. The assortment of ML models encompassed artificial neural networks, deep learning architectures, and multimodal sensor integration approaches. This review shows that the models for analyzing and interpreting in-bed movements perform well in experimental settings. Large-scale real-life studies are lacking in diverse patient populations.

Advancing personalized oncology: a systematic review on the integration of artificial intelligence in monitoring neoadjuvant treatment for breast cancer patients.

Despite suffering from the same disease, each patient exhibits a distinct microbiological profile and variable reactivity to prescribed treatments. Most doctors typically use a standardized treatment approach for all patients suffering from a specific disease. Consequently, the challenge lies in the effectiveness of this standardized treatment and in adapting it to each individual patient. Personalized medicine is an emerging field in which doctors use diagnostic tests to identify the most effective medical treatments for each patient. Prognosis, disease monitoring, and treatment planning rely on manual, error-prone methods. Artificial intelligence (AI) uses predictive techniques capable of automating prognostic and monitoring processes, thus reducing the error rate associated with conventional methods. This paper conducts an analysis of current literature, encompassing the period from January 2015 to 2023, based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). In assessing 25 pertinent studies concerning predicting neoadjuvant treatment (NAT) response in breast cancer (BC) patients, the studies explored various imaging modalities (Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, etc.), evaluating results based on accuracy, sensitivity, and area under the curve. Additionally, the technologies employed, such as machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), statistics, and hybrid models, were scrutinized. The presentation of datasets used for predicting complete pathological response (PCR) was also considered. This paper seeks to unveil crucial insights into the application of AI techniques in personalized oncology, particularly in the monitoring and prediction of responses to NAT for BC patients. Finally, the authors suggest avenues for future research into AI-based monitoring systems.

Meta-analysis of mortality-associated factors in primary Sjögren's syndrome patients with interstitial lung disease.

The study aims to conduct a meta-analysis on 5-year survival rate and mortality-related factors in the patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome concomitant with interstitial lung disease (pSS-ILD). Following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, we searched various platforms and databases until November 22, 2023. We used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) for quality assessment and extracted study characteristics and effect sizes. The pooled 5-year survival rate, hazard ratios (HRs), and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were then calculated. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Patients with pSS-ILD. Mortality in patients with pSS-ILD. Out of 188 articles, seven met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis estimated a 5-year survival rate of 82% (73%-91%). Mortality-related factors estimated by the meta-analysis included older age (HRs = 1.06, 95% CI 1.03-1.09, P < 0.0001), history of smoking (HRs = 3.44, 95% CI 2.14-5.53, P < 0.00001), anti-SSA antibody positivity (HRs = 0.41, 95% CI 0.20-0.85, P = 0.02), anti-SSB antibody positivity (HRs = 0.42, 95% CI 0.18-0.98, P = 0.04), reduced forced vital capacity (FVC; HRs = 0.96, 95% CI 0.95-0.98, P < 0.0001), reduced 6-min walk distance (6MWD; HRs = 0.99, 95% CI 0.99-1.00, P = 0.0008), presence of a reticular abnormality (HRs = 3.03, 95% CI 1.54-5.95, P = 0.001), and decreased arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) levels (HRs = 0.99, 95% CI 0.97-1.00, P = 0.04). The 5-year survival rate for pSS-ILD is 82%. Older age, history of smoking, anti-SSA antibody negativity, anti-SSB antibody negativity, reduced FVC, reduced 6MWD, presence of a reticular abnormality, and decreased PaO2 levels increase the mortality risk in pSS-ILD.

Infectious complications of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare severe cutaneous adverse reactions to medications characterized by keratinocyte necrosis leading to loss of protective barrier function and increased susceptibility to infection. Infection is a major cause of morbidity, and septicemia is the leading cause of mortality in this population. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine infectious complications' prevalence and risk factors in adults with SJS and TEN. This review was registered with the International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (INPLASY) and conducted in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) reporting guidelines. Thirty-six articles describing results from 1446 cases were included. Skin infection was the most commonly diagnosed infection. The pooled prevalence of sepsis, respiratory tract infection, skin infection, and urinary tract infection was 27.3%, 21.5%, 37.5%, and 21.8%, respectively. Staphylococcus aureus was the most commonly identified organism. The overall quality of the studies was suboptimal, and the level of heterogeneity was high. The skin, bloodstream, respiratory, and urinary tracts are most commonly infected in the course of adult SJS and TEN. During hospitalization, clinicians should closely monitor and promptly investigate for these as well as several other infectious complications. More research is needed, with greater attention to the risk factors and causative organisms that cause these infections.

Home Biofilm Management in Orthodontic Aligners: A Systematic Review.

Background. Transparent aligners are recently introduced orthodontic devices considered promising for the improvement of oral health conditions, in terms of faster treatment times and enhanced comfort, especially if compared with traditional fixed orthodontic therapy. This systematic review aimed to evaluate at-home protocols for proper oral hygiene and aligners cleaning during orthodontic treatment. Methods. A search was conducted using the following four databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus. The systematic review (registered as CRD 42024562215) followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines and included prospective studies, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), controlled clinical trials, and in vivo and ex vivo studies; they had to assess treatment with invisible orthodontics compared to treatment with fixed orthodontics, home oral hygiene, or aligner disinfection protocols. The evidence in the studies was evaluated for risk of bias using the RoB-2 (for RCTs and randomized crossover studies) and ROBINS-I tools (for observational studies). Results. Eleven studies were included in this systematic review: four RCTs, four crossover studies, and three cross-sectional observational studies. Seven studies considered patients undergoing orthodontic treatment, whereas four examined orthodontic aligners. The cleaning protocols of the aligners were evaluated based on the analysis of residual biofilm on the thermoplastic surfaces. Studies included were characterized by a low level of certainty, thus further evidence is needed. Conclusions. The most effective protocols entailed a combination of mechanical and chemical agents, suggesting that it is fundamental for patients undergoing aligner treatment to focus on individually tailored home oral hygiene protocols.

Contribution of Online Referral Systems to Health Services: Systematic Review

The online referral system (eReferral) is designed to improve waiting times and efficiency by standardizing information and online communication in the referral process. Online referral is the automation of the referral process in which appointments and other information regarding the outcome of a consultation are transferred between two or more healthcare providers. This study was designed to identify the implementation of online referrals at various levels of health care. This systematic review was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement. Of the 10 articles included in this review, 6 studies were conducted in the USA, 2 studies in Canada, and one each in the UK, and Saudi Arabia. The studies used a variety of designs, including Quasi-experimental (n=5), longitudinal (n=2), qualitative (n=1), and Research and Development (n=2). This study provides a clear picture of the use of an online referral system, starting from the work process, effectiveness, barriers, and development possibilities for a wider reach. This system is very helpful in easing the workload of specialist doctors and for patients who are referred users get the benefit of shorter waiting times/queues, making it possible to reduce medical costs further.

BMI and deep brain stimulation: A comprehensive review and future directions with AI integration.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has revolutionized the treatment of movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease (PD), essential tremors, dystonia, and treatment-refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of DBS on Body Mass Index (BMI). Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines, data from 49 studies were reviewed, with 46 studies specifically focusing on BMI and DBS. These studies involved 1,478 participants, predominantly PD patients, with an average age of 58.82years. The primary DBS implantation site was the subthalamic nucleus (STN). Over six months, the mean BMI increased from 25.69 to 27.41, despite a reduction in daily energy intake from 1992 to 1873kJ. While the findings suggest a correlation between DBS and weight gain, the study has limitations. The sample largely comprised PD patients (91%), preventing analysis of other subtypes. Additionally, most studies focused on the STN, limiting comparisons with other targets like the globus pallidus internus (GPi). Inconsistencies in assessing daily energy intake and food consumption further complicate the results. Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in future research could address these gaps. For example, machine learning algorithms, such as those used by Oliveira et al., can predict post-DBS weight changes based on pre-surgical BMI and demographic factors. Similarly, AI-driven models like CLOVER-DBS can optimize DBS settings for improved motor control in PD patients. In conclusion, DBS affects BMI, and AI has the potential to enhance the precision of future studies.

Utilisation of the minimally invasive chevron akin (mica) osteotomy for severe hallux valgus: a systematic review.

Hallux valgus is the most common forefoot disease that can cause pain and be disabling for the patient. Many surgical procedures have been described to correct this deformity; over the last years, the minimally invasive Chevron and Akin osteotomies (MICA) technique has become very popular. The aim of this review was to assess if MICA technique is a reliable procedure for treating severe hallux valgus. A systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. The keywords were searched in PubMed Medline and Cochrane library. To minimise the number of missed studies, no filters were applied to the search strategy. To be considered for this review, the articles needed to comply with the following inclusion criteria: Minimally invasive Chevron and Akin osteotomy (MICA) for severe hallux valgus (HVA > 40°, IMA > 16°), patient age over 18years and minimum follow-up of 6months. Following the PRISMA flow chart 7 studies met the inclusion criteria and were taken into consideration in the review. We reached a population of 582 patients for a total of 676 feet. Males and females were 64 and 518, respectively. The mean age was 54.15 ± 8.25. The mean follow-up was 23.74 ± 9.60months. All the studies reported an improvement in clinical results, in terms of function and quality of life. Radiological variables, mostly IMA and HVA, assessed pre- and postoperatively showed significant improvement in all studies included. Despite the limited number of published studies in the literature, the available evidence reveals good clinical outcomes and high levels of patient satisfaction. Percutaneous surgery for severe hallux valgus can achieve great deformity correction with reasonable rates of residual deformity. Patient satisfaction and quality of life following third-generation MICA surgery is very high.

Effectiveness of antipsychotic drug therapy for treating psychosis in people with epilepsy: A systematic review.

Individuals with epilepsy are at risk of developing preictal, ictal, postictal and interictal psychoses. Antipsychotic drugs (APDs) are the main class of drugs used to treat psychosis and schizophrenia. The efficacy and safety of APDs as a treatment for epileptic psychosis is not well understood. This systematic review aimed to assess the effectiveness and adverse effects of APDs for treating psychosis in people with epilepsy. We adhered to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. We searched MEDLINE, Embase, PsycInfo, and AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine) from database inception to June 20, 2023. We contacted experts in the field and performed citation searches to identify additional records. Title, abstract, full-text review, and data analysis were conducted in duplicate, with conflicts resolved by discussion among authors. Given the considerable heterogeneity of study designs, meta-analysis was not deemed appropriate; instead, the results were tabulated in a narrative synthesis. The Joanna Briggs Institute Risk of Bias tool and GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) framework were used to assess study quality. We identified 13 studies with a total of 1180 participants. In the four case series included, the psychotic symptoms of 25 of 28 patients treated with APDs partially improved or fully resolved. Three of the four cohort studies reported an association between antipsychotic use and longer duration of psychotic episodes, two found similar results in both APD and non-APD groups, and two did not report control psychosis outcomes. When reported, seizure frequency was observed to remain unchanged or decrease following APD treatment. The evidence on the effectiveness of antipsychotics in the treatment of psychosis in epilepsy is inconclusive and may reflect confounding by indication. However, most studies suggest that antipsychotics were not associated with a marked worsening in seizure frequency. It remains unclear whether antipsychotics should be used in epilepsy, and well-controlled cohort studies and randomized controlled trials are necessary to draw definitive conclusions.

What internet- and mobile-based interventions are currently available for adults with overweight or obesity experiencing symptoms of depression? A systematic review.

Given the high prevalence of overweight and obesity and high comorbidity of depressive symptoms, there is a need for low-threshold, accessible care approaches for people with overweight/obesity aimed at improving mental health. Internet and mobile-based interventions (IMI) represent an innovative complementary treatment option. This review systematically searches for IMI aimed at improving mental health in people with overweight/obesity. We conducted a systematic literature search according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) criteria in the databases MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, Web of Science and Google Scholar. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of IMI for adults with overweight/obesity and comorbid depressive symptoms aiming at improving mental health were screened and extracted. Study quality was assessed with RoB 2 (revised Cochrane Risk of Bias tool in RCTs). After excluding duplicates, n = 790 results were included in title and abstract screening. After full-text-screening of n = 26 studies, n = 3 RCT studies were included. All interventions aimed to reduce both weight and depressive symptoms. In two RCTs, a significant reduction in both depressive symptoms and weight was achieved. One RCT indicated a significant reduction in depressive symptoms, but not in weight. Two intervention had a duration of 6 months and were guided by health carers, the third takes 3 months and can be used without professional guidance. There is evidence that IMI are effective in improving mental health for people with overweight/obesity and comorbid depressive symptoms. However, currently there are few interventions aiming at reducing depressive symptoms, all targeting English-speaking people. As IMI for depressive symptoms can be easily integrated in the somatic therapy of obesity as additional option and has high public health potential, target group-adapted and low-threshold accessible interventions in different languages should be developed and implemented for improving mental health in people with overweight/obesity. Carotid endarterectomy in the asymptomatic elderly: a systematic review of literature.

Asymptomatic carotid stenosis (ACS) carries a 4.7% risk of ipsilateral stroke if left untreated. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is a surgical intervention that has demonstrated efficacy in reducing stroke risk among symptomatic elderly. However, literature on its efficacy in preventing stroke in patients with ACS remains limited. Our systematic review summarizes evidence on the safety and efficacy of CEA in the asymptomatic elderly.PubMed and Scopus were searched to identify articles that described outcomes after CEA for ACS in patients aged ≥ 65 years old. Articles that did not report outcomes specific to the asymptomatic elderly were excluded. Outcomes of interest were technical success, stroke, death, myocardial infarction and post-operative complications. The Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to perform a qualitative assessment for risk of bias and studies with NOS ≥ 6 were considered high quality. This systematic review was performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement.After a title and abstract screen, followed by a full-text review, 7 studies reporting outcomes in 76,404 patients were included. Five studies were retrospective and two were prospective. Among studies that reported criteria for intervention in ACS patients, 2 studies performed CEA for 70% stenosis and one performed CEA for 60% stenosis. One study reported outcomes for all ranges of stenosis (mild: 0-50%, moderate: 50-79% and severe: 80-99%). Clinical outcomes varied among included studies, with rates of death stroke and myocardial infarction ranging from 0.39 to 6.1%, 0.5-1.2% and 0.9-3%, respectively.The decision to perform CEA in patients with ACS is made after outweighing risks and benefits of surgery based on various factors like age, comorbidities and frailty. At present, evidence is largely limited to retrospective studies that utilized nationwide databases. Prospective studies and randomized controlled trials could help characterize the risk of CEA in this cohort.

Systematic Review of Quantitative Risk Quantification Methods in Construction Accidents

Construction accidents pose significant risks to workers and the public, affecting industry productivity and reputation. While several reviews have discussed risk assessment methods, recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and real-time decision support systems have created a need for an updated synthesis of the quantitative methodologies applied in construction safety. This study systematically reviews the literature from the past decade, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A thorough search identified studies utilizing statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, simulation, and artificial intelligence (AI). These methods were categorized and analyzed based on their effectiveness and limitations. Statistical approaches, such as correlation analysis, examined relationships between variables, while mathematical models, like factor analysis, quantified risk factors. Simulation methods, such as Monte Carlo simulations, explored risk dynamics and AI techniques, including machine learning, enhanced predictive modeling, and decision making in construction safety. This review highlighted the strengths of handling large datasets and improving accuracy, but also noted challenges like data quality and methodological limitations. Future research directions are suggested to address these gaps. This study contributes to construction safety management by offering an overview of best practices and opportunities for advancing quantitative risk assessment methodologies.

Professional Bereavement in Nursing: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis.

Clarify and define the concept of professional bereavement in nursing. Rodgers' evolutionary method was used to identify the attributes, antecedents, and consequences of professional bereavement in nursing. Literature from inception to May 20, 2024, was searched from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, Medline, EBSCO host, Proquest, Ovid, and Cochrane. The preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were adopted. The 32 articles included in the study provided data on the concept of professional bereavement in nursing. We propose the concept of professional bereavement in nursing as follows: Professional bereavement in nursing is the experience of a patient or colleague's death in the workplace, influenced by contextual, internal, and external factors. Nurses perceive personal and professional losses, exhibit a multidimensional liminal state, and experience personal impacts (life and worldview) and professional impacts (health-related productivity and professional ability). We developed a preliminary conceptual model of professional bereavement in nursing based on its attributes, antecedents, and consequences. This conceptual model promotes the development of theories related to professional bereavement. This is the first article to clarify and define professional bereavement in nursing. We have clarified the antecedents, attributes, and consequences of professional bereavement, which provides a conceptual framework for understanding professional bereavement. The conceptual framework guides the content of interventions and suggests future professional bereavement interventions from a dialectical perspective. Not applicable.
