THE DOCTRINE OF SUFI PHILOSOPHY AS A POWERFUL ANTIDOTE TO GLOBAL TERRORISM

The rise of global terrorism presents a critical challenge to peace and stability worldwide, fueled by divisive ideologies that promote hatred and violence. There is a growing need for alternative frameworks that promote understanding, tolerance, and reconciliation. This paper explores the doctrine of Sufi philosophy as a powerful antidote to global terrorism, examining its principles and practices in fostering peace and countering extremist ideologies. A comprehensive review of literature on Sufi philosophy, Islamic mysticism, and counter-terrorism strategies was conducted to elucidate the principles and practices of Sufism in promoting peace and countering extremist narratives. The findings reveal that Sufi philosophy embodies principles of love, compassion, and spiritual enlightenment, potent antidotes to the rhetoric of hatred and violence propagated by extremist groups. Sufi teachings emphasize the interconnectedness of humanity, fostering a culture of tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect. In conclusion, the doctrine of Sufi philosophy offers a transformative framework for countering global terrorism by addressing its root causes of ignorance, fear, and alienation. Through its emphasis on love, compassion, and spiritual enlightenment, Sufism provides a compelling alternative to extremist ideologies, inspiring individuals and communities worldwide to embrace a path of peace, unity, and understanding.

Etika Kewirausahaan Berbasis Prophetic Intelligence

Sufism should not be interpreted as an activity solely focused on withdrawing from the world. Instead, Sufism should be utilized as a motivation for every Muslim to seek worldly wealth. However, this worldly wealth should ultimately be used to accumulate good deeds for the hereafter. Prophetic Intelligence is a Sufi study that can be used to integrate the interests of both the worldly and the hereafter. The practice of Sufism in Prophetic Intelligence refers to the example set by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). On one hand, he was the Messenger of Allah carrying out duties for the hereafter, and on the other hand, he was a merchant demonstrating how to be a successful entrepreneur in the world. The example of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) serves as a model of entrepreneurial ethics.

An Appraisal of the Practice of Sufism and Jalabi among Yoruba Muslims in Nigeria

Jalabi and Sufism are two abiding practices among Yoruba Muslims. Both have been instrumental to the consolidation and propagation of Islam across the Yorubaland. Many early Yoruba Muslims, especially the Islamic scholars, were both Jalabi practitioners and Sufi adherents. Many Muslims of later generations have, however, abused both. Hence, the coming of Salafiyyah advocates to displace the two, having been considered as innovations (bidcah) that endure among the Muslims. The Salafiyyah advocates propelled another misconception as they failed to acknowledge the parallels between the two but tarred both with the same brush. This now makes it difficult to record the necessary corrections to purge society of the evils of quacks that parade themselves in the land under the guise of Islam. Therefore, This study aims to examine the two phenomena to find their legitimacy in Islam and identify the similarities or otherwise between them. It will also determine the appropriateness or otherwise of Salafiyyah's advocacy against them. Historical and exegetical methods are adopted. The former enables the assessment of historical facts connected to Jalabi and Sufism in Yorubaland. At the same time, the latter allows assessing relevant works, especially the primary sources of Islam, to find the legitimacy for the two variables of this paper. Findings revealed that Sufism came down to Yorubaland along with Islam and that early Muslim scholar devised Jalabi as a dacwah strategy to consolidate and propagate Islam in the land. It also revealed that both exist independently, though combined by some scholars, while many Jalabi practitioners are not Sufis and vice versa. The work concluded by recommending that Salafiyyah scholars address each according to its peculiarities because Jalabi practitioners in modern times are businessmen, while the Sufis are not.

Akhlak Tasawuf

Sufism morals are increasingly needed in the current era to minimize the evils and gaps in human attitudes towards themselves, fellow humans and also Allah SWT. The practice of Sufism exemplified by Sufis generally teaches religious values ​​that produce noble moral behavior. Noble morals provide hope for the formation of an advanced civilization and do not ignore the divine values ​​that are always present in human hearts and lives. The aim of this research is to form a scientific concept regarding Sufism morals that is sustainable in the Islamic education process. The method in this research uses library study methods, reading content analysis, and descriptive analysis from various related sources. The results of the research found a concept that Sufism's morals produce noble morals towards Allah SWT, oneself, fellow humans and other living creatures in the universe through a process of self-purification and also approaching oneself to Allah SWT.

Antara Salafi dan Sufi: Tasawuf menurut Ibn Taimiyyah dan al-Qusyairi

This article discusses two sects that are often contrasted: Salafi and Sūfī. It focuses on the views of Ibn Taimiyyah al-Ḥarrānī as a representative of Salafi and ‘Abd Karīm al-Qusyairī of Sūfī-sunnī on Sufism. By analyzing the works of Ibn Taimiyyah and al-Qusyairī on tasawuf, this article describes their views and then compares them. Ibn Taimiyyah wrote no less than thirty-eight treatises on Sufism and cited more than forty Sūfī texts in explaining and analyzing his views on Sufism. Al-Qusyairī, on the other hand, describes in detail the Sūfī figures and their views in his Risālah. He also included his Sufistic analyses in Laṭāif al-Ishārāt. Using an interpretative approach and content analysis, this article finds that Ibn Taimiyyah did not reject Sufism. He rejected the practice of Sufism that he thought was not intertwined with the Qur’ān and Sunnah. This is evident from his respect for al-Qusyairī, whom he called al-Syaikh al-Ustāż, and Mutaṣawwifah Ahl al-Kalām, a term of honor within the Ṣūfī order. Nonetheless, Ibn Taymiyyah notes that al-Qusayrī’s quotations in his work are not followed by references and explanations. In explaining the practice of zuhd, al-Qusyairī did not provide examples from the ṣaḥābah and tābi'īn to strengthen his argument.

TASAWUF DALAM ERA DIGITAL

Sufism, as one of the branches in Islamic tradition, plays a significant role in maintaining individual spiritual awareness. However, with the rapid advancement of digital technology, we find ourselves amidst a constant flow of information and distractions. The purpose of this research is to explore how Sufism can play a relevant role in this digital era to assist individuals in preserving their spiritual awareness. Additionally, this article highlights the importance of Sufism education in the digital era. This article involves conceptual analysis and literature review on Sufism and the impact of digital technology on spiritual awareness. The research findings indicate that the unavoidable technological wave can pose significant challenges for individuals who seek to maintain their spiritual awareness. Distortions of spiritual experiences, neglect of ethical values, and dependence on the virtual world can obscure the understanding and practice of Sufism. However, Sufism also offers relevant and beneficial tools to confront these challenges. Practices such as meditation, introspection, and self-control can assist individuals in strengthening their spiritual awareness in the digital era. Furthermore, a Sufi approach centered on the relationship with God and universal love can help individuals view technology as a tool that can be wisely utilized to enhance spiritual awareness, rather than a source of distraction.

Aktualisasi Zikir Tasawuf Sebagai Metode Pendidikan Spiritual, Moral dan Sosial Bagi Masyarakat Postmodern

This study aims to analyze and find a concept of remembrance of Sufism as a method of spiritual, moral, and social education for postmodern society. The research method used is a literature review which examines various literatures, articles, books, and documentation that support the topic of study. The results of the study show that remembrance of Sufism as an alternative to purify the soul and educate the heart to be cleaner so that it will have an impact on personality and social. The process to get there must go through the stages of takhallī, taḥallī, and tajallī. Then, remembrance of Sufism to be a method of education for spiritual, moral and social aspects must be carried out in the right way, which must be solemn, persistent, repeated, understand the meaning and be presented in the heart. Internalization of Sufism remembrance is important to harmonize spiritual, moral and mu'amalah aspects so that the practice of Sufism does not only strengthen one aspect, but several aspects that make him a moderate, balanced and in accordance with the dictates of Islam itself.

A Critique Of Ibn Al-Jawzi’s Discourse On Some Sufi Themes In His Talibisu Iblis

Sufism is shrouded with many polemics which keep thickened by the day. The gap between the anti and pro-Sufi scholars continues to widen with time. As the former scholars intensified efforts to discredit Sufism, the latter strengthened moves to consolidate it in Islam. One of the scholars both sides relied on in their discussions is Ibn Al-Jawzī. Talbīs Iblīs, which forms the kernel of discussions in this paper, is one of his works on Sufism. It is often said that the work is an attack on Sufism, but the Sufis denied this, stating that it is just an appraisal of different groups that make up Islam. The effort here is to critique various mystical themes in the work vis-à-vis Sufis’ renditions to determine their level of correlation or otherwise. Historical and exegetical methods are adopted. The former availed the opportunity to dig into relevant historical facts, while the latter assisted in analyzing his submissions on Sufism. It is discovered that Ibn Al-Jawzī was not particular about Sufism, but all groups of Muslims identified how Iblīs deluded each. Also, he did not entirely condemn Sufism but considered some doctrines and practices strange therein. His submissions were guided by his little practice of Sufism and observations of Sufis of his time. The paper concluded that Ibn Al-Jawzī's effort is not different from Ahmad Ibn Hanbalī's among his precursors and Ibn Taymiyyah among his successors. Interpretation of the Sufism Teachings of Sunan Bonang in the Context of Javanese Culture

This research aims to analyze the interpretation of Sunan Bonang's teachings of Sufism in the context of Javanese culture. The method used in this study is a literature study with content analysis. The results of this study indicate that Sunan Bonang's teachings of Sufism are uniquely interpreted in the context of Javanese culture, emphasizing the concept of unity between God and humans and integrating local wisdom into the teachings. In the Javanese culture context, Sunan Bonang's teachings of Sufism view that divinity is the essence of human life. Additionally, these teachings also integrate values of local wisdom such as mutual cooperation, simplicity, and humility in their practice of Sufism. Overall, Sunan Bonang's teachings of Sufism have strong relevance to the challenges of modern times, especially in developing spirituality and facing complex issues in the modern world

Restatement of Contemporary Sufi Epistemology: The Case of Badi’uzzaman Sa’id Nursi

<p>This study aims to explore the epistemological construct of Sufism according to Sa’id Nursi in the contemporary era. Sufism is seen as having deviant concepts and practices contrary to Shari’a in the modern era. Some muslim and non-muslim thinkers argue that Sufism does not originate from Islam. Therefore, there needs to be an effort to decipher this misunderstanding by exposing how Sufism's epistemology was genuinely constructed by referring to the teachings and practices of a contemporary Sufi, Sa'id Nursi. This study is qualitative library research. Data in this study, both primary and secondary, were collected using documentary techniques. The collected data were analyzed utilizing the content analysis method. This work finds that Nursi outlines four pillars of Sufism epistemology. First, true Sufism is based on the Qur'an and Sunnah, internalized and manifested through the soul and heart, as is the view of the authoritative Sufis. Second, purification of the teachings and practices of Sufism must depart from the purgation of the heart and soul. Third, social equality refers to carrying out life’s values, meaning that all are equal before Allah SWT. Fourth, consistently instill the Qur’an’s four values: <em>tauhid </em>(unity and oneness of God)<em>, nubuwah </em>(prophecy)<em>, hashr </em>(resurrection), and <em>'adl</em> (justice).</p>

Amr Ma'ruf wa Nahi Munkar: Gerakan Kadizadeli dan Kritik Sufisme di Kerajaan Ottoman Abad ke-17

This research will explore the Kadizadeli movement in the Ottoman empire in the 17th century. The Kadizadeli movement is a movement led by clerics who were previously Friday preachers at mosques in Istanbul. This movement wanted to purify Islam from the heretical behavior and activities of the Sufis who according to them had demoralized Ottoman society in the 17th century. In Islamic history, for example, there are several figures who also criticized Sufism, Ibn Tayimiyah or Ibn Jauzi. The complex problems of the 17th century have inspired some scholars, especially Kadizadeli, to fix them. Using the jargon, Amr ma'ruf wa nahi munkar, they began to criticize and attack the practices of Sufism in the Ottoman empire. By using historical research and literature this research produced several findings. Historically, this movement was led by three people, namely: Kadizade Mehmed, Ustuvani Mehmed and Vani Mehmed. Initially this movement only conveyed their criticism of Sufism activities through sermons and writings. However, when Ustuvani and Vani led this movement and gained a special relationship with the ottoman rulers, this movement led to radical actions. Exploring The Relationship Between Sufism and Hadith: A Qualitative Analysis of Key Narrations and Interpretations

This study examines how Sufi scholars have utilized Hadith to develop a framework for their spiritual practices, including pursuing inner knowledge and cultivating spiritual states. Additionally, it aims to analyze key Hadith narrations central to the development of Sufi thought, such as those concerning the nature of God, the role of Prophet Muhammad, and the path to spiritual enlightenment. This study utilizes a qualitative research approach to comprehensively analyze key Hadith narrations in Sufi literature and explore the relationship between Sufism and Hadith. The methodology involves a thorough literature review of primary and secondary sources, including Hadith collections and commentaries, works of Sufi scholars, and relevant academic studies. Qualitative data analysis techniques, such as content analysis and thematic coding, are employed to identify key themes and patterns in the Hadith narrations and Sufi interpretations. The study demonstrates that the teachings of Sufism are rooted in the prophetic tradition and can be referenced in various Hadiths of the Prophet that discuss the practice of Sufism. The Hadiths emphasize the importance of worshipping God to the best of one’s ability (ihsan), purifying oneself from things that can defile the heart and hinder the light of God (tazkiyat al-nafs), and practicing zuhud or detachment from excessive love for the material world. Sufis strive to find the basis of these Sufi teachings through esoteric interpretation of these Hadiths. This effort is not only essential for integrating Hadiths and Sufi teachings but also for seeking the Prophet’s most profound insights and teachings

Mandailing Scholar of the XX Century: Sufism Thought of Syeikh Syihabuddin Nasution Aek Libung (1892 -- 1967)

This article aims to describe the sufismtrought of SyihabuddinAekLibung (Nasution), born in South Tapanuli. He was one of the scholars (al-‘Alim al-‘Allamah) in Archipelago, pupil of Abdul Jabar al-KhalidiNaqsyabandi (Khalifah of Ibrahim al-Khalidi) and Muhammad Ali Ridha in Mecca. This article is based on the sources of his manuscript, Adab al-Muridin and Fath al-Qalb with a philological approach and social history. Syihabuddin said that the pillars of the religion are 4 types: iman, Islam, tauhid, and makrifah. It means that religion was not only iman, Islam (sharia, fiqh), dantauhid, but also makrifat (sufism, tarekat and suluk). The understanding and implementation makrifah, of course, must be preceded by the understanding and implementation of the iman, Islam and tauhid. This understanding is the understanding of the scholars who are rapprochement or reconciliation between shari’ah-oriented scholars and sufis who prefer the esoteric teachings. In the practice of sufism, Syihabuddin affiliated to the Naqsyabandiyah.

TASAWUF SEBAGAI AKHLAK: SEBUAH JALAN MENAPAKI TASAWUF PADA ABAD 21

This article describes Sufism as a moral that can be applied in the 21st century. It is analyzed using a qualitative approach with exploratory and analytical methods. The results of this study are that Sufism as morality is a method/way to carry out the practice of Sufism in everyday life. Unlike tasawuf as a maqam, which must be organized or in order to live it, 21st century humans must follow a tarekat or require step by step in practice, tasawuf as morals does not have to be like that. In the 21st century, it is enough for humans to make the existing conceptions of Sufism as an attitude, behavior and actions, or to present the values of Sufism in the reality of their life. Also, you can choose any tasawuf conception that you want to contextualize according to the situation and conditions, without having to be systematized.

History of Babul Mukarramah and The White Robe Movement in the New Order Era

<p><em>The White Robe Movement, a very brave heroic movement of santri dayah, was pioneered by aceh's charismatic ulama, Teungku Bantaqiah a leader of the Salafist dayah (Babul Mukarramah), Beutong Ateuh region. The purpose of this movement is to prevent various kinds of rampant toxicity in Aceh during the New Order era. This movement was inspired by the process of studying in depth the practice of Sufism and the order taught in Babul Mukarramah's father, namely the muqarabah and mujahadah methods. This method has been able to seep into the souls of the students who are applied through jihad in the way of Allah Almighty. This study aims to explain the history of Babul Mukarramah and The White Robe Movement. Data collection is carried out in four ways, namely by observation, literature studies, document studies, and interviews. The methods used are historical methods and qualitative approaches. The results of data analysis showed that The White Robe Movement only developed around 1987, besides it was named because of the vision and mission. The movement, led directly by Teungku Bantaqiah, is just a group of students who want to convey their aspirations regarding the government's policy of insurgent Aceh and leaving the Acehnese people in a backwardness and downturn.</em></p>

Keats’ Sufi Speaker Jumps Back to Reality: An Evaluation of “Ode to Nightingale”

Sufism predates Romanticism by over 900 years and has an arresting similarity with British Romanticism and American transcendentalism. The faith in an immortal afterlife, the consideration of death as a gateway to eternity, and the belief in the unity of the creator and the creation make the two philosophical genres very close to each other. John Keats, being one of the greatest British romantic poets, has shown numerous occasions where he puts death in a hierarchic position over life, and also describes elements that have eternal nature. Sufism too searches for a greater mystic regardless of the pain and pleasure of the material world. Keats’ “Ode to Nightingale” presents the poet himself having an obsession with the spiritual world of the nightingale but his wish is countered by the sudden return to reality. Hence, through a Sufi evaluation of the ode, the hasty transformation of the poet may be explored. First of all, the definition, origin, and overall practices of Sufism are briefly discussed. Also, how Sufism concurs with other philosophical developments, especially in Europe is also highlighted. Finally, close observation of the poem is made through which the dilemma between Keats’ Sufi and realistic double consciousness is explored.

Integrasi Fikih dan Tasawuf Perspektif Tarekat Tijaniyyah

Ascetic practice that focuses on inner charity (Sufism) in worshiping Allah. without carrying out worship related to the external aspect (Fiqh) is still carried out among Muslims themselves. How is the view of the Tijaniyyah Order in responding to the phenomena that occur? This study aims to analyze the concept of harmony in the practice of fiqh and tasawuf from the perspective of the Tijaniyyah Order. This study applies qualitative methods and uses literature research objects which are categorized as library research. The results and discussion of this study show the concept of harmony in the practice of Sufism and fiqh in the Tijaniyyah Order and discuss the biography of Sheikh Ahmad Attijani as the founder of the at-Tijani congregation. The conclusion of this study explains that the Tijaniyyah Order applies religious practices based on fiqh and Sufism as physical and spiritual deeds. This research recommends for further research with a holistic perspective.

The lack of texts about the contribution of female Sufis, but there are several female Sufis who spread the doctrine and practice of Sufism, namely Rabi'ah and Aishah al-Ba'uniyyah are two big names and female Sufis who prove that women have equal opportunities in attainment of spiritual knowledge. Therefore, writers are interested in female Sufis, especially in Western countries, where so far many writers have focused on female Sufis in the eastern world, therefore it is very interesting to discuss about female Sufis in the West, namely Hajjah Naziha, a female Sufi who has a movement. philanthropy at the international level. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach and reviews the literature such as books, journals, articles, and various sources that are relevant to the theme of the discussion in this paper. The results of the study explained that female Sufis namely Hajjah Amina Adil and Hajjah Naziha Adil with their organization called HNCO (Hajjah Naziha Charitable Organization) were involved in philanthropy. The movement has spread its wings to several countries and continues to help the community, especially those who limit the spread of COVID-19.
