An investigation into the electrical erosion resistance of powder metallurgy composites with heterogeneous structures has demonstrated that the extent of their wear under the action of pulse discharges is governed, other things being equal, by the strength of their refractory phase skeletons. Because of this, machining electrode materials should be subjected to heat treatment designed to increase the strength of their refractory skeletons or should contain alloying additions serving the same purpose.
