Intersections, Reflections, and Transformations in “Fashion as Material Culture”: A Conference Report

Introduced and hosted as a postgraduate conference in 2012 at Çankaya University, the International Conference on Language, Literature & Culture is an annual international conference, organised by a different university each year, to enable senior and emerging scholars to engage in innovative theoretical discussions and scholarly debates. In 2023, when we celebrated the centenary of the Republic of Türkiye, The 10th International Conference on Language, Literature & Culture was co-hosted by Gümüşhane University (Türkiye) Ankara Science University (Türkiye), and University of Évora (Portugal). The 10th LLC was held as an online conference on 15-16 September 2023. The international conference was a peer-reviewed academic forum for the exchange and communication of scholarship in the fields of language, literary studies, translation and cultural studies, aiming to provide a venue for scholars and graduate students working at the boundaries of these disciplines.

Preface

International Postgraduate Conference for Energy Research 2022 (IPCER2022) was held in Pullman Hotel Kuala Lumpur Bangsar, Malaysia on 19 December 2022. It was organized jointly with co-organizers of Research Universities, Technical Universities and Private Universities. The objective of the conference was to create a stimulating environment for graduate students to discuss their on-going research work on energy with peers and experienced researchers from academia. The target audience of the forum is PhD students, recently graduated PhDs, supervisors, and master students in the related area of Energy. The conference was held in hybrid mode (Face-to-Face and Virtual). In IPCER 2022, both local and international researchers from various research backgrounds were gathered in the conference, which gave the participants the opportunity to increase their knowledge and build the research network for long-term collaboration opportunities. Foreword: Exploring the Meaning of Outside/rs

Outside/rs 2022 was a postgraduate conference held on 2nd and 3rd April 2022 at the University of Brighton. The conference aimed to build a common understanding of the challenges in accounting for what we called Outsider experiences and positions, as they relate to gender, sex and sexualities. We invited criticisms, definitions and explorations of what Outside/rs might mean in relation to queerness, transness and beyond. This Excursions Special Issue showcases selected papers from this conference to continue the conversations we began at Outside/rs 2022.

News Summer 2021

COVID-19 and SFS activities: Due to the ongoing crisis relating to COVID-19, the Society for French Studies has again decided to move the postgraduate conference online. The postgraduate conference will take place on 28 May 2021. The deadline for applications to the Society for French Studies Visiting International Fellowship scheme has been postponed, in light of the continuing coronavirus situation. We will keep the situation under review and announce a new deadline in due course. We hope to be able to appoint a Visiting International Fellow for 2021/22 if at all possible. The 62nd annual conference of the Society for French Studies will take place on 28–30 June 2021. We are delighted to be offering a full and varied range of papers following a robust response nationally and internationally to our supplemental call for papers. Preface

The International Postgraduate Conference on Mechanical Engineering (IPCME 2021) is the second international conference organized by the Faculty of Mechanical & Automotive Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Malaysia. This conference aimed to provide a forum for discussion, sharing and disseminating ideas and expertise among researchers within and outside the UMP, especially postgraduate students across Malaysia. The conference is also an effort to foster the implementation of the latest research with a culture of innovation in rapidly growing mechanical engineering technology. The conference focused on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research topics concerning advanced manufacturing, automotive engineering, biomechanics, heat transfer, vibration, and other mechanical engineering topics.Most interestingly, the conference was fully managed by the postgraduate students of UMP with guidance from the institutional academic and non-academic staff. This is to nurture the leadership and decision-making skills of UMP’s postgraduate students in managing a conference on their future working career. The first IPCME conference was successfully organized on October 31, 2018, with 110 participants. Initially, the biennial IPCME conference was planned to be held in April 2020 with a face-to-face presentation. However, due to the uncertain circumstances of the COVID-19, the conference was postponed to January 19, 2021, with the video-conferencing presentation. Nevertheless, we still managed to receive 69 paper submissions, including international participants from China, Indonesia, and Iraq.Therefore, it is an honor to make the IPCME 2021 a success despite the pandemic. We would like to express our appreciation to Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) is sponsoring our conference. Special thanks to our keynote speaker Prof. Datin. Ts. Review of the 6th PGCA conference

ABSTRACTThis is a review of the 6th Postgraduate Conflict Archaeology conference held in Glasgow in October of 2019. It summarizes the presentations and keynotes delivered at the two-day conference, and reflects on the benefit of postgraduate and ECR specific conferences, the gender disparity within the field of conflict archaeology, and the importance of a supportive network of colleagues.

Feedback in conference interpreter education

Abstract Feedback is a key part of the teaching and learning process in conference interpreter education. However, there is little research on how feedback should be performed in order to promote learning, or on what trainers and trainees think of its role. This paper, based on a larger PhD research project, seeks to fill this gap by reporting on perceptions and practices in three postgraduate conference interpreter training programs. Data were collected from trainers and trainees through individual interviews, focus groups, and questionnaires, complemented by direct observation of lessons. Content analysis was used to identify points of divergence and convergence between the views of trainers and trainees regarding the usefulness of feedback, preferred practices, and the difficulty of providing feedback. Main findings include that feedback should be honest, concise, and meaningful for the trainees, and provide an analysis of the problems encountered as well as recommend specific strategies for overcoming them.

1st International Postgraduate Conference on Mechanical Engineering (IPCME2018)

Preface The 1st IPCME2018The 1st International Postgraduate Conference on Mechanical Engineering (IPCME2018) is the first conference organized by Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Pekan campus that focus on participation of postgraduate student across the world. These proceeding contains the selected scientific manuscripts submitted to the conference. It is with great pleasure to welcome you to the “International Postgraduate Conference on Mechanical Engineering IPCME2018” that is held at Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Malaysia. The call for papers attracted submissions of over more than one hundred abstracts from both local and international universities.The scientific papers published in these proceeding have been revised and approved by the technical committee of the 1st IPCME2018. All of the papers exhibit clear, concise, and precise expositions that appeal to a broad international readership interested in mechanical engineering. The topics of the Conference were: (1) Combustion; (2) Structural integrity and vibration; (3) Human and biomechanical; (4) Manufacturing system and process; (5) Energy and fuels; (6) Computational analysis and advanced materials; and (7) Thermal and fluid engineering.The reports present original ideas or results of general significant supported by clear reasoning and compelling evidence, and employ methods, theories and practices relevant to the research. The authors state clearly the questions and the significance of their research to theory and practice, describe how the research contributes to new knowledge, and provide tables and figures that meaningfully add to the narrative. In this edition of IPCME2018 representatives coming from academia, industry, governmental and private sectors. The plenary and invited speakers present, discuss, promote, and disseminate research in all fields of mechanical engineering in a constructive manner. Volume 3 Editorial

The third volume of the Postgraduate Perspectives represents the breadth and depth of postgraduate research in history and related disciplines. The four articles in this volume range from witchcraft and chivalry in the late Middle Ages, the historiography of the English East India Company, gendered political persecution in post-WW2 Czechoslovakia, and the roots of heritage management in England. These contributions originated in the postgraduate history student conferences in 2017 and 2018 at the University of Huddersfield.

Riscos e Possível Solução Associados às Amostras em Redes de Coautoria

Resumo Já existe um conjunto razoável de trabalhos que aplicaram a sociometria e a teoria de redes para caracterizar o arranjo de pesquisadores e/ou de instituições de pesquisa subjacente a um objeto específico de interesse, seja ele Programa de Pós-Graduação, periódico, congresso, campo teórico ou técnico. Se o objeto de interesse é circunscrito, o censo é razoável e pode ser empregado. Caso contrário, trabalha-se com uma fração da população obtida por amostragem. Contudo, o uso de amostra tem riscos que, sendo ignorados, podem comprometer os achados. Frente a essa questão, este trabalho teve por objetivos avaliar os riscos decorrentes do emprego de amostras em estudos de redes de coautoria e propor um encaminhamento alternativo a simplesmente desconsiderá-los. Para tanto, foram feitas 300 simulações de uma rede de coautoria, reduzindo-a em 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 e 30%, para depois testar a extrapolação a partir do modelo linear. Os resultados indicam que mesmo amostras relativamente grandes podem ser enganadoras. Ainda assim, foi possível inferir algumas das características estruturais da população a partir do método em consideração, de tal forma que esse desenvolvimento pode vir a ser um recurso interessante a fim de conferir maior confiabilidade à pesquisa na área.

5th International Postgraduate Conference on Pharmaceutical Sciences 2017 (iPoPS 2017)

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MARA (UiTM)Assalamualaikum wbt I would like to congratulate the Postgraduate Society of Faculty of Pharmacy, UiTM Puncak Alam for organising the 5th International Postgraduate Conference on Pharmaceutical Sciences 2017 (iPoPS 2017).This conference has been successfully organised since 2012 by the postgraduate students together with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tokyo University of Science, Japan without fail. This symbolises the strong collaboration between UiTM and TUS towards academic excellence, which enhances our academic visibility. UiTM has been ranked top 200 in the QS World University Ranking by subject 2017 for Pharmacy &amp; Pharmacology. This is a big achievement for a young faculty of 14 years.On that note, contributions from the postgraduates play an important role in the development of human capital headed for a personified nation with humanistic values, forward thinking with an edge in entrepreneurship. Ph.D. Researchers in a Changing World: A Self-Critical Reflection of the CES Conference 2017

The theme of this year’s Centre for Education Studies Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Conference, now in its fifth year, is 'Education in a Changing World'. I attended the conference as a paper presenter and a conference attendee. My personal goals were to develop confidence as an oral presenter, seek professional development opportunities, and engage critically and reflectively with my work and the work of others. My relativist epistemological beliefs define knowledge as uncertain, context-bound, fallible, defeasible and therefore changeable, and are compatible with my personal goals. Both the goals and beliefs led to the adoption of knowledge co-constructor, communicator, and analyst roles. Beliefs, goals and adopted roles led to the identification of points of fallibility in my own knowledge and understanding of the phenomenon of interest. Therefore, I formed a perspective of conferences as enabling and facilitating knowledge construction between presenter and audience. Being reflective, critical, adaptable, creative, intuitive, flexible, and open minded are key attitudinal attributes of postgraduates, leading to positive conference experiences and increased self-awareness of own emerging identity as a social scientist. Increasing self-awareness of own identity is important for graduates, as on a broader scale this assists in keeping pace with an ever-changing world.

International Technical Postgraduate Conference

PrefaceThe International Technical Postgraduate Conference (Tech-Post 2017) takes place at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 5th to 6th of April 2017. Editorial

The first issue of for(e)dialogue is composed of a collection of papers given at the New Directions in Media Research (NDiMR) postgraduate conference in June 2015 at the University of Leicester. NDiMR is a one-day postgraduate focused conference organised by PhD students from the Department of Media and Communication. This conference has a similar aim and purpose of this journal as a whole which is to provide postgraduate students, PhD students and early career researchers with a platform and opportunity to develop and share their research and critically contribute to discussions of theory and methodology on a variety of Media and Communication issues. The NDiMR conference has been held annually since 2012, each year growing in size and attracting more delegates and presenters from across the world. However, this is the first time that some of the events’ presentation papers have been collected for a published conference proceedings.
