Children who suffer from peanut allergy are likely to form an increasing part of the population requiring healthcare intervention. In the case of school-age children these interventions will be derived from a need for education, support and guidance. These needs may best be met by the school nurse who is in a unique position to accurately target interventions by working in partnership with children, parents and school staff members. In a climate where the role of the school nurse has been under scrutiny and where school nursing services have faced cuts, this is an area where the practice of the school nurse is expanding and where he/she can demonstrate positive care outcomes.
