1.1. The dorsal recumbent posture may produce discomfort or circulatory collapse in late pregnancy. Turning to the side will relieve this condition, as will emptying of the uterus.2.2. These postural changes are apparently due to obstruction of the venous return from the pelvis and lower extremities by the pressure of the gravid uterus.3.3. Shock from posture may be superimposed on shock from other causes.4.4. Where there is a variation in blood pressure with change in position in late pregnancy, the lowest pressures will usually be found with the patient on the back.5.5. In treating shock in pregnant women, it may be wise to have the patient on the side.
