Optimalisasi Pelaksanaan Program KALIMASADA dalam Pendampingan Layanan Administrasi Kependudukan di Kelurahan Nginden Jangkungan Surabaya

This article will discuss the role of students in carrying out assistance in population administration services through optimizing the implementation of the KALIMASADA Program in the Surabaya City Population and Civil Registration Service, especially in the Nginden Jangkungan Subdistrict area, Surabaya. This program aims to increase public literacy regarding the importance of population administration, provide direct assistance to the community and optimize Population Administration services in Nginden Jangkungan Village. The method used in the population administration services assistance program is a participatory approach with descriptive methods. A participatory approach is an approach that formulates regional or village development needs that prioritize the community. Students carry out field trip surveys directly to the community. The results of this mentoring program show that the role of students in assisting with population administration services really helps the community in fulfilling population administration documents. This assistance activity can help the community understand the importance of population administration documents and fulfill population administration documents.

E-Readiness Operator Pelaksana dalam Penerapan Aplikasi Administrasi Kependudukan Cepat Akurat Terintegrasi (PANDU CAKTI) Di Kabupaten Tulungagung

The Population and Civil Registration Office of Tulungagung Regency launched a new solution in the form of an online application called the Integrated Fast Accurate Population Administration Service (Pandu Cakti). With the Pandu Cakti online application, the Tulungagung community no longer needs to come to the Dispendukcapil Office to take care of population documents at their respective village or kelurahan offices. With the intention to simplify and speed up the process of managing population administration. Therefore, this study aims to measure the level of e-readiness ability of operators implementing the integrated fast accurate population administration application (PANDU CAKTI) in Tulungagung Regency. the type of research used is quantitative research. While the approach used in this research is a quantitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques with questionnaire surveys, documentation, observation, and interviews. The results showed that indicators of perceived Ease of Use, attitude Toward of Using, behavioral Intention to Use, and actual System Usage were in the ready category in the application of panducakti innovation. However, the perceived usefulness indicator falls into the category of quite ready.

The number of episodes of major psychiatric and substance use disorders as an index of genetic risk and genetic heterogeneity.

We investigate whether number of episodes (NoEs) meaningfully reflect genetic risk and genetic heterogeneity for five primary disorders-Drug Use Disorder (DUD), Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), Major Depression (MD), Bipolar Disorder (BD), and Schizophrenia (SZ) ascertained from Swedish population registries. We utilize Genetic Risk Ratios (GRR)-defined as the ratio of the genetic risk for secondary disorders to the genetic risk for the primary disorder-derived from Family Genetic Risk Scores (FGRS). For all five primary disorders, genetic risk rose robustly with increasing NoEs. For both AUD and DUD, the GRR for all six secondary disorders-selected to have a likely genetic relationship with the particular primary disorder-declined with increasing NoEs so that cases of AUD and DUD with high versus low NoEs had both a higher genetic risk and a purer genetic signal. With MD, genetic risk maximized at an intermediate NoEs. While the GRRs for AUD and DUD in MD cases dropped sharply with increasing NoEs, GRR for BD increased. For BD, genetic risk rose sharply with increasing NoEs while for all secondary disorders the GRRs showed a mixture of modest increases and decreases. Like AUD and DUD, but even more markedly, selecting BD cases with high rates of recurrence would produce a sample with a high overall genetic risk and a relatively homogeneous genetic signal. For SZ, genetic risk rose moderately with increases in NoEs. GRRs for other non-affective psychoses (ONAP) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) fell quite slowly with increasing NoEs, and more rapidly for other secondary disorders. Cases of SZ with high recurrence rates had a high genetic risk and a relatively pure signal, albeit with contributions from ONAP and ASD. In summary, NOEs are a robust index of genetic risk and genetic heterogeneity across our primary disorders with important inter-disorder differences.

Pengaruh Budaya Organisasi dan Kepuasan Kerja Terhadap Kinerja Pegawai pada Dinas Pengendalian Penduduk dan Keluarga Berencana Kabupaten Karawang

This research aims to determine the influence of organizational culture and job satisfaction on employee performance at the Karawang Regency Population Control and Family Planning Service. In this particular investigation, a quantitative descriptive approach was used. It is estimated that the total number of employees working at the Karawang Regency DPPKB is 39 people (both population and sample). For the purpose of testing our hypothesis, we used SPSS version 25. Research findings show that organizational culture has an influence on employee performance, as indicated by a t value of 2.028 and a significance value (sig) of 0.002, lower than the acceptable threshold of 0.05. The t-calculated value of the relationship between job satisfaction and employee performance is 2.882, the t-table value is 2.028, and the significance level (sig) of 0.007 is also smaller than 0.05. Apart from that, job satisfaction has a partial influence on employee performance. This shows that organizational culture and satisfaction at work where employees operate have a positive and large influence on employee performance.

Increased cancer incidence and mortality among people with opioid use-related disorders: A nation-wide cohort study.

Studies on cancer incidence and mortality among people with opioid use-related disorders are lacking. We aimed to measure cancer-specific incidence, mortality and survival among people diagnosed with opioid use-related disorders in Norway during 2010-18. This was a cohort study conducted in Norway during 2010-18. Individuals (n = 20710) diagnosed with opioid use-related disorders. We conducted a cohort study utilizing a data-linkage of national health and population registers. Information on opioid use-related disorders was extracted from specialized healthcare, malignancies from the Cancer Registry of Norway and deaths from Cause of Death Registry. Cancer incidence and mortality were compared with the general population by calculating sex-specific age-standardized incidence (SIR) and mortality (SMR) ratios. One-year survival rates were computed. Compared with the general population, people with opioid use-related disorders were at an increased risk of developing cancer overall [SIR = 1.2, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.1-1.3] with a higher than twofold cancer mortality rate (SMR = 2.3, 95% CI = 2.0-2.7). Excess risk was observed for liver (12.6, 95% CI = 9.1-17.0), larynx (4.7, 95% CI = 1.7-10.2), lung (3.5, 95% CI = 2.8-4.3) and pancreas cancer (2.6, 95% CI = 1.6-4.0), whereas reduced risk was found for melanoma (0.5, 95% CI = 0.3-0.9), breast (0.6, 95% CI = 0.4-0.9) and prostate cancers (0.3, 95% CI = 0.1-0.4). Site-specific SMRs were significantly elevated for liver (12.3, 95% CI = 8.5-17.2), lung (3.9, 95% CI = 3.0-5.0), pancreas (3.0, 95% CI = 1.7-4.8) and colon cancers (1.9, 95% CI = 1.1-3.1). The average 1-year survival rate after a cancer diagnosis was low in liver, pancreas and colon cancer, ranging from 10 to 15% less than that of the general population. In Norway, cancer incidence and cancer-related mortality appear to be elevated among individuals with opioid use-related disorders.

Exploring potential risk factors for lower limb amputation in people with diabetes-A national observational cohort study in Sweden.

Risk factors for lower limb amputation (LLA) in individuals with diabetes have been under-studied. We examined how 1/demographic and socioeconomic, 2/medical, and 3/lifestyle risk factors may be associated with LLA in people with newly diagnosed diabetes. Using the Swedish national diabetes register from 2007 to 2016, we identified all individuals ≥18years with an incident diabetes diagnosis and no previous amputation. These individuals were followed from the date of diabetes diagnosis to amputation, emigration, death, or the end of the study in 2017 using data from the In-Patient Register and the Total Population Register. The cohort consisted of 66,569 individuals. Information about demographic, socioeconomic, medical, and lifestyle risk factors was ascertained around the time of the first recorded diabetes diagnosis, derived from the above-mentioned registers. Cox proportional hazard models were used to obtain hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). During the median follow-up time of 4years, there were 133 individuals with LLA. The model adjusting for all variables showed a higher risk for LLA with higher age, HR 1.08 (95% CI 1.05-1.10), male sex, HR 1.57 (1.06-2.34), being divorced, HR 1.67 (1.07-2.60), smokers HR 1.99 (1.28-3.09), insulin treated persons HR 2.03 (1.10-3.74), people with low physical activity (PA) HR 2.05 (1.10-3.74), and people with an increased foot risk at baseline HR>4.12. People with obesity had lower risk, HR 0.46 (0.29-0.75). This study found a higher risk for LLA among people with higher age, male sex, who were divorced, had a higher foot risk group, were on insulin treatment, had lower PA levels, and were smokers. No significant association was found between risk for LLA and education level, country of origin, type of diabetes, blood glucose level, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, creatinine level, or glomerular filtration rate. Obesity was associated with lower risk for LLA. Identified variables may have important roles in LLA risk among people with diabetes.

Catheter – related thrombosis in cancer patients: Data from the registry of thrombosis and nEoplasia of SEOM (TESEO)

BackgroundCatheter related thrombosis (CRT) is the most frequent non-infectious complication associated with central venous access devices (CVAD), with a reported incidence between 13 % and 66 % in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients, respectively, with several factors influencing its development. MethodsCRT events recorded in TESEO, an international, multicentric, and prospective cancer-associated thrombosis registry were assessed. Descriptive analyses were conducted. ResultsBetween July 2018 and December 2023, 2,567 patients were included in TESEO. Of these, 245 patients developed CRT and were included in this analysis. Mean age was 60.5 years (SD 12.3). Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) were present in 42.1%, totally implanted ports (PORT) in 40.9% while 17% had missing data. The most common reported comorbidities were arterial hypertension (28.6%) and dyslipidemia (28.2%). Other thromboembolism associated risk factors were present in ≤10% of patients.Venous thromboembolism (VTE) related symptoms occurred in 70.2% of cases at presentation. Pulmonary embolism (PE) was present in 6.5%, being clinically suspected in 56.2% of cases. The diagnosis was mainly unilateral (81.3%) and 50% were central. Arterial and venous rethrombosis was present in 0.8% and 4.9% of cases respectively. Minor bleeding episodes occurred in 2.5% of cases, while major/clinically relevant episodes were present in 3.6%. ConclusionsUsual VTE associated risk factors were infrequent in the TESEO registry population. CRT was symptomatic in most cases, with reduced complication rates after treatment.

Pengaruh Corporate Social Responsibility Dan Good Corporate Governance Terhadap Manajemen Laba

This study aims to determine the effect of motivation and work discipline on the performance of employees at the Department of Population and Civil Registration of Tangerang City in providing administrative services. This research employs a descriptive quantitative statistical approach, using primary data. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, with 93 respondents selected through random sampling, and data was processed using SPSS version 26. The results of the study indicate the regression equation Y = 2.423 + 0.382X1 + 0.628X2, showing that both motivation and work discipline have a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Simultaneously, motivation and work discipline positively and significantly influence employee performance, with an R square value in the determination test of 0.652. Thus, motivation and work discipline account for 65.2% of the variation in employee performance at the Department of Population and Civil Registration of Tangerang City, which is categorized as strong.

This research aims to investigate the impact of organizational culture, compensation, and organizational climate on the performance of Civil Servants at the Office of Population and Civil Registration in Medan City. The respondents in this study are the Civil Servants working in this office. The analysis method applied utilizes the SMART PLS technique, which helps in assessing the validity and reliability of the variables and identifying whether the independent variables contribute positively or negatively to the performance of the Civil Servants. Through this approach, it is expected to gain a deeper understanding of the various factors influencing the performance of Civil Servants at the Office of Population and Civil Registration in Medan City.

Increased risk of bacterial pneumonia before and after respiratory syncytial virus infection in young children.

The burden of respiratory disease is great among children. This study aimed to examine the temporal relationship between hospitalisation for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and bacterial pneumonia. A Swedish population-based cohort was created by combining data from the Swedish Medical Birth Register, the National Inpatient Register, the Cause of Death Register, the Total Population Register, and the Longitudinal Integration Database for Health Insurance and Labour Market Studies. Children born between 1998 and 2015 were included and followed for 2 years. We examined the temporal relationship between RSV hospitalisation and bacterial pneumonia using piecewise exponential models. The final cohort comprised 1 641 747 children, 48.5% were females. There were 23 632 RSV and 4722 bacterial pneumonia hospitalisations, with mean age of 137.8 and 424.2 days, respectively. RSV hospitalisation was associated with bacterial pneumonia with an adjusted incidence rate ratio (aIRR) of 3.18. The risk was highest in the first month after RSV hospitalisation, aIRR 11.19. The risk of bacterial pneumonia was elevated for 4 months after RSV hospitalisation and before RSV hospitalisation. We found an increased risk for bacterial pneumonia hospitalisation in children hospitalised for RSV both before and after RSV hospitalisation, indicating a bidirectional relationship.

The role of mental illness and neurodevelopmental conditions in human papillomavirus vaccination uptake within the Swedish school-based vaccination programme: a population-based cohort study

Despite documented mental illness-related disparities in cervical cancer screening and incidence, insufficient data exist on differences in cervical cancer prevention strategies, such as human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. We aimed to investigate the association of mental illness and neurodevelopmental conditions among girls and their parents with uptake of HPV vaccination in Sweden. This population-based cohort study was based on the Swedish school-based HPV vaccination programme, which offers the first vaccine dose to girls aged 10-13 years, with a second dose offered within 12 months. We identified all girls born between Jan 1, 2002, and March 1, 2004, using the Swedish Total Population Register-ie, those eligible for two vaccine doses in the vaccination programme from its initiation in autumn 2012, to March, 2019. Nationwide Swedish register data (National Patient Register, Prescribed Drug Register, HPV Vaccination Register, National Vaccination Register, Total Population Register, Multi-Generation Register, Longitudinal Integrated Database for Health Insurance and Labour Market Studies, Education Register, National Cervical Screening Registry, and Cancer Register) were used to define individual and parental mental health conditions, including mental illness and neurodevelopmental conditions (defined by a clinical diagnosis and prescribed psychotropic medication use), HPV vaccine uptake (first and second dose), and sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. The two outcomes were uptake of the first HPV vaccine dose by the girl's 14th birthday and uptake of the second dose by the 15th birthday in relation to individual and parental mental health conditions, calculated using multivariable Poisson regression models. 115 104 girls were included in the study population. 2211 girls (1·9%) had a specialist diagnosis of any mental health condition. Uptake of the first HPV vaccine dose was 80·7% (92 912 of 115 104) and was lower among girls with versus without any mental health condition (adjusted relative risk 0·89 [95% CI 0·87-0·91]). The diagnosis of autism (0·79 [0·75-0·85]) or intellectual disability (0·78 [0·73-0·83]) were most strongly associated with lower HPV vaccine uptake. Vaccine uptake was also lower among girls with versus those without prescribed use of psychotropic medication (0·93 [0·92-0·95]), with the strongest association observed for antipsychotics (0·68 [0·56-0·82]). Uptake of the second dose was 95·0% (88 308 of 92 912), with no strong associations between uptake and mental health conditions in girls or their parents. Our findings suggest disparities in cervical cancer prevention among girls with mental health conditions, and call for further research to ensure equitable protection. Swedish Cancer Society.

Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Congenital Heart Disease and Atrial Fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common arrhythmia in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), but little is known about the risk for ischemic stroke among younger patients with CHD (aged <65 years) with AF. Using data from the National Swedish Patient Register and Cause of Death Register, we identified all patients with both CHD and AF born in Sweden between 1970 and 2017. The Swedish total population register was used to identify age- and sex-matched patients without CHD; those with AF were used as controls. Bottos hierarchical classification was used to define CHD as either complex or noncomplex. Controls were followed from the onset of AF until the index ischemic stroke, death, or end of study (December 31, 2017). We identified 951 patients with CHD with AF and 606 controls with AF. Among patients with both CHD and AF, 2.9% of patients (n=28) developed ischemic stroke, compared with 0.5% (n=3) in controls. When adjusted for age, sex, hypertension, and heart failure, a hazard ratio (HR) of 5.16 (95% CI, 1.52-17.46) was acquired. The HR in noncomplex CHD was 3.84 (95% CI, 1.07-13.84), and the HR in complex CHD was 8.34 (95% CI, 2.27-30.57). For patients born in 1970 to 1989, the HR in ischemic stroke was 7.35 (95% CI, 1.70-31.75). No adjusted HR for patients with CHD born in 1990 to 2017 could be acquired due to few events. The risk for ischemic stroke may be 5 times higher in patients with both CHD and AF compared with patients without CHD with AF. However, larger studies may be needed to confirm/refute these results.

Towards the 4th population census in Ethiopia: Some insights into the feasibility of the Post-Enumeration Survey

While national registry systems are evolving worldwide and, in some cases, replacing reliance on censuses, in countries where well-established population registers are lacking, the population and housing census remains the primary source of detailed data on the number of people, their spatial distribution, age and gender structure, living conditions, and other key socio-economic characteristics. The quality of the census findings is crucial for several reasons, including building public trust in the national statistical system. In many developing countries, conducting a Post-Enumeration Survey appears to be the only feasible way to evaluate the census results. Indeed, the lack or incompleteness of reliable demographic data from alternative sources precludes the use of other methods. This paper discusses some aspects of the feasibility of a Post-Enumeration Survey in Ethiopia. In particular, the paper reports on the main critical issues that emerged from the pilot surveys carried out in the framework of a cooperation project – funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation – aimed at providing methodological support and technical assistance for the preparation of the 4th Ethiopian Population and Housing Census.

Health care service utilization and drug overdose death:A national nested case-control registry study.

More knowledge is needed to identify and reach those at overdose risk with preventive measures. We examined past 12-month health service utilization, identified the most frequently utilized service, explored this utilization in more detail, and examined correlates of overdose death. A population-based nested case-control registry study including all drug overdose deaths (1 January 2010 to 31 December 2018) in Norway through the Cause of Death Registry (n = 2388). The year-, age- and gender-matched controls included through a population registry (n = 21,465). Data cross-linked with population and patient registries. Multivariable conditional logistic regression analyses estimated the likelihood of overdose death. The cases (vs. controls) attended a higher median number of services (3 vs. 1). The General Practitioner (GP) was the most utilized service. The majority (55.7%) of cases had 11-50 encounters, while the majority (60.7%) of the controls had 1-5 encounters. No high school diploma, no employment, urban living, social welfare benefits/disability pension, single-person household, recent incarceration, multiple health service utilizationand frequent GP encounters, as well psychological and certain physical diagnoses were correlates of overdose death among the GP attenders. The cases had utilized more services than the controls and the GP was the most frequently utilized service. In addition to lowsocioeconomic status, psychological and certain physical diagnoses were correlates of overdose death. This is the first national case-control registry study to document the high utilization of multiple primary and secondary health care services before drug overdose death, as well as reasons for attendance and correlates of overdose death.

Effectiveness of the Application of the Integrated Population Information System (Sintren) in the Issuance of Death Certificates at the Population and Civil Registration Office of Cirebon Regency

The Integrated Population Information System (SINTREN) is a collection of actions to organize and distribute death certificate documents and population data electronically or via the internet using existing technology, communication, and information facilities. The SINTREN system is used with the aim of providing convenience in population administration services related to death certificates in Cirebon Regency. This research aims to review whether the management of the application or website is able to cut the distance and time of users to be more efficient. The research employs a qualitative approach through observation, documentation, and observations, with a particular focus on informants who were directly involved in the application of the SINTEREN application for issuing death certificates. Data analysis was conducted using Budiani's theory of effectiveness, which includes evaluating the accuracy of program goals, the effectiveness of program socialization, the achievement of program objectives, and the monitoring mechanisms in place. The study contributes by analyzing and interpreting data collected from various sources, providing insights into its implementation, functionality, and impact on improving population and civil registration services. This study could help identify areas for improvement, enhance system efficiency, and inform future policy decisions regarding population information management in the region.

Reproducibility and comparison of a digital food frequency questionnaire (DIGIKOST-FFQ) assessing adherence to national diet and lifestyle recommendations.

We have developed a digital semi-quantitative food frequency and lifestyle questionnaire, the DIGIKOST-FFQ, based on the validated paper-based NORDIET-FFQ. The study aims to investigate the reproducibility of the DIGIKOST-FFQ and to compare the DIGIKOST-FFQ against the NORDIET-FFQ for the adjusted questions for intakes of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, meat, and dairy products. Participants were recruited from May to September 2021 through a random sample from the National Population Register and advertisements on Facebook in Norway. In the reproducibility study, the DIGIKOST-FFQ was completed twice by the participants, 1-2 months apart. In the comparison study, the DIGIKOST-FFQ was completed 1-2 months prior to the NORDIET-FFQ. In the reproducibility study, 317 individuals were included. For 12 out of 16 food groups there were no significant differences in intake estimations between the first and second DIGIKOST-FFQ administrations. A small but significant median difference was observed for fruits (6 g/day) and vegetables (24 g/day). Correlations were satisfactory for all items (r = 0.60-1.00), and in the cross-classification 85% of the participants were classified into the same or adjacent quartile for all items. The comparison study included 81 individuals. Compared to the NORDIET-FFQ a significant median difference was observed for fruits 29 g/day, vegetables 36 g/day, whole grains -10 g/day, and red meat -11 g/day, but not for fish, processed meat, or dairy products. The DIGIKOST-FFQ was able to reproduce diet and lifestyle at the group level. An intended difference for the food groups where questions had been adjusted, was observed between DIGIKOST-FFQ and NORDIET-FFQ in the comparison study.

Profiles Among Women Without a Paid Job and Social Benefits: An Intersectional Perspective Using Dutch Population Register Data

ABSTRACTDespite their potential vulnerability and untapped work potential, research on the group of women without a paid job and social benefits is limited. This study is the first to identify profiles among women in this group based on their intersecting economic, sociodemographic and contextual characteristics. A cluster analysis conducted on Dutch population register data from 2019 challenges previous research that lumped women without a paid job and social benefits into a single group. Rather, we reveal three distinct profiles: ‘Dutch empty nesters (i.e., mothers with adult children) in affluent households’, ‘Migrant women in urban living areas’ and ‘Dutch, educated mothers with affluent partners’. The identification of these three profiles can mark a significant step in developing tailored active labour market policies for women without a paid job and social benefits.

Impact of cigarette smoking on the outcomes of ST-elevation myocardial infarction after primary percutaneous coronary intervention in metropolitan Tehran

Objective: Although the adverse effects of smoking are well-established, evidence shows a longer survival rate following an acute myocardial infarction (MI) among smokers or the so-called “smoker's paradox”. This study aimed to determine the impact of smoking on the one-year clinical outcomes of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) in a large registry of the Iranian population. Methods: A total of 3087 patients diagnosed with acute STEMI who underwent PPCI between 2013 and 2018 were enrolled in the study. Patients' smoking status was determined based on self-reported history and categorized into two groups: current smokers and non-smokers. Clinical and angiographic data were collected from the Tehran Heart Center (THC) registry. The primary outcome was one-year of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). The effect of smoking on MACCE was evaluated using a Cox model. Results: From the study population, 1967 (63.7%) were non-smokers, and 1120 (36.3%) were current smokers. Non-smokers had higher rates of prior CABG (5.3%) as well as a higher history of co-morbidities, including a history of diabetes mellitus (46.0%), hypertension (52.7%) and hyperlipidemia (55.4%) than smokers (2.3%, 30.4%, 35.7%, and 49.8% respectively). Smokers had a higher reference vessel diameter than non-smokers (P=0.005). The unadjusted hazard ratios (HRs) for MACCE within one year were significantly lower in smokers than non-smokers (0.73, 95% CI: [0.58,0.92]; P=0.009); however, after adjustment for confounders, the HRs for MACCE in smokers were similar to non-smokers (HR: 1.00, 95% CI: [0.73,1.38]). Conclusion: The study found that smoking had no significant impact on the one-year clinical outcomes of STEMI patients after PPCI in the Iranian population. This study is the first of its kind to assess the effect of smoking on STEMI patients in Iran and highlights the need for further research in this area.

Polycystic ovary syndrome and risk of breast cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women: a nationwide population-based cohort study.

Although some reproductive and metabolic characteristics of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are known risk factors for breast cancer, the evidence regarding a potential association between PCOS and breast cancer is scarce. In this population-based cohort study including all 1,719,452 women born in Denmark between 1940 and 1993, we investigated the association between PCOS and breast cancer. PCOS diagnoses, cancer diagnoses, covariates, migrations, and vital status were all obtained from national population and health registers. Hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for breast cancer overall and for histological subtypes separately were calculated based on adjusted cox proportional hazards models. During a median follow-up of 26years, 63,078 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. We found an increased risk of breast cancer overall among women with PCOS compared with women without PCOS (HR: 1.21, 95% CI 1.02-1.44). In analyses stratified for menopausal status, the increased risk was restricted to postmenopausal women (HR: 1.63, 95% CI 1.23-2.15). The results for ductal and lobular histological subtypes analyses separately resembled those observed for breast cancer overall. This is the first study to report an increased risk of breast cancer among women with a history of PCOS. The increased risk was seemingly confined to postmenopausal women. Our results therefore contribute to an increased knowledge of the etiology of breast cancer, but our findings should be further confirmed in other large cohort studies with an appropriately long follow-up period.
