PurposeTo evaluate the safety and efficacy of puncture with the same axle transfixion technique in radioactive iodine-125 seeds implantation by fan-shaped distribution for lung cancer patients with poor lung function.Materials and MethodsThirty-three cases of lung cancer patients with poor lung function in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively between 2013 and 2014.All the patients were treated with radioactive iodine-125 seeds implantation by fan-shaped distribution and punctured with the same axle transfixion technique. The matched peripheral dose(MPD) were 90-145Gy. Treatment planning system (TPS) in pre-operation played an guidance role in iodine-125 seeds implantation. Operating plan was simulated by fan-shaped system and implanted spacing was 0.5-1cm, which can be adjusted in real time during operation. TPS was applied during the immediate postoperative period to verifier implantation. Intraoperative and postoperative complications were analyzed. All patients were followed up for 6 months. The local control rate was evaluated by CT scan.ResultsAll patients were succeed in iodine-125 seeds implantation. Complications related to operation mainly included pulmonary hemorrhage, pleural cavity hemorrhage and pneumothorax. The local control rate of 2 months, 4 months, 6 months was 29%, 73%, and 85%, respectively. Totally, the complete response rate was 18%, partial response rate was 67%,stable disease rate was 12%, and progressive disease rate was 3%.ConclusionsPuncture with the same axle transfixion technique in radioactive iodine-125 seeds implantation by fan-shaped distribution is a safe and effective method to treat lung cancer cases, especially for the poor lung function patients.
