Chemical constituents from n-butanol extract of aerial part of Polygala sibirica

Nine compounds were isolated from the n-butanol extract of the aerial parts of Polygala sibirica by various column chromatographic methods. Their structures were identified by MS and NMR spectroscopic data as sibiricaxanthone F (1), amentoflavone (2), linarin (3), zigu-glucoside I (4), 3, 6'-disinapoyl sucrose (5), tenuifoliside A (6), 2, 4, 4-trimethyl-3-formyl-6-hy-droxy-2, 5-cyclohexadien-1-one (7), lanierone (8), and aralia cerebroside (9) , respectively. Compounds 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 were isolated from the genus Ploygala for the first time, and compound 9 was firstly isolated from the title plant.

Five New Xanthenone O‐Glycosides from the Roots of Polygala sibirica L.

AbstractFive new xanthenone O‐glycosides, sibiricaxanthone C (1), sibiricaxanthone D (2), sibiricaxanthone E (3), sibiricaxanthone F (4), and sibiricaxanthone G (5) were isolated from the roots of Polygala sibirica L., together with the six known xanthenone glycosides 6–11. The structures of new compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectral data and acid hydrolysis.

Simultaneous determination of phenols in Radix Polygalae by high performance liquid chromatography: Quality assurance of herbs from different regions and seasons

Radix Polygalae, roots of Polygala tenuifolia or of Polygala sibirica, is a Chinese herbal medicine commonly used to prevent dementia. Reliable chemical markers for quality assurance of this herb are missing. Here, a high performance liquid chromatography method coupled with diode array detection was developed to simultaneously determine nine different phenols in Radix Polygalae, including sibiricose A(5), sibiricose A(6), glomeratose A, tenuifoliside A, glomeratose D, 3',6-di-O-sinapoyl sucrose ester, mangiferin, polygalaxanthone III, and polygalaxanthone XI. By using two different detection wavelengths in the HPLC analysis, the developed method was able to determine the phenols with excellent resolution, precision, and recovery. This established method was therefore applied to determine the amounts of phenols in thirty-two samples from different cultivation regions and harvest seasons in China, and significant variations were revealed. The amounts of phenols in the roots of P. tenuifolia collected in Shanxi and Shannxi Provinces were markedly higher than in roots collected from other Provinces. Moreover, the samples harvested in the spring contained higher contents of phenols than those collected in other seasons.

The paper deals with the calciphyte steppe com­munities of the Seim River basin (Kursk Region), represented by the two new associations, Asperulo cynanchicae—Onobrychidietum arenariae ass. nov. and Achilleo collinae—Astragaletum onobrychis ass. nov., which form a new suballiance Bupleuro falcati—Gyp­sophi­lenion altissimae suball. nov. The diagnostic spe­cies of this unit are Anthemis tinctoria, Bupleurum falcatum, Campanula sibirica, Centaurea pseudomacu­­losa, Gypso­phila altissima, Jurinea arachnoidea, Poa compressa, Polygala sibirica, Salvia stepposa, S. ver­­ticillata, Viola rupestris and the ass. Asperulo-Ono­brychidietum is selected as its holotype. The suballiance comprises calciphyte steppe communities on Cre­ta­ceous marl outcrops in both steep and gentle southern and south-eastern gully slopes, characterized by the combination of calciphyte petrophytes and typical steppe plants. According to the diagnostic species set, the unit is referred to the alliance Festucion valesiacae Klika 1931. The studied communities may be treated as a variant of the petrophytic calciphyte steppes distributed in the south-western part of the Middle-Russian Upland.

Sucrose esters and xanthone C-glycosides from the roots of Polygala sibirica.

Six new sucrose esters, sibiricoses A(1)-A(6) (1-6), two new xanthone C-glycosides, sibiricaxanthones A (7) and B (8), and a new acetophenone glycoside, sibiricaphenone (9), were isolated from the roots of Polygala sibirica together with six known glycosides. The structures of new compounds were elucidated on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. The structure of the known xanthone glycoside, polygalaxanthone III (10), was revised.
