Jakaś niedzisiejsza… Śmierć i starość w obiektywie filmowej kamery

The article is devoted to the use of a feature film with reference to the practice of Polish language teaching at the middle school level. Starting with a detailed reconstruction of the attitudes of the characters, going through the analysis of the film means of expression, the author embeds the movie Pora umierać (Time to Die) by Dorota Kędzierzawska (2007) in the axiological context, in the circle of harsh reflections related to the death and old age. The analysis is complemented by the presentation of some specific methodological solutions and visualization of the issues raised in the film in the form of tables and graphs.

Nauczanie przyjazne mózgowi? Metody stosowane przez nauczycieli języka polskiego w gimnazjum wobec postulatów neurodydaktyki

This article presents opinions and postulates of neurodidactics, starting the change in education. The author, using parts of results of the research called “Dydaktyka literatury i jezyka polskiego w gimnazjum w świetle nowej podstawy programowej” (eng. “Polish language and literature didactics in a secondary school in the light of the new curriculum”) considers the situation of Polish language education in a secondary school influenced by new research results connected with the efficiency of education.

Polonistów portret własny?

The article makes an attempt to characterize a Polish language teacher who works in a secondary school. The author uses Polish les­sons reports which teachers fill out and tries to make generalizations concerning methodological solutions intro­duced by the teachers. Opinions of Polish language teachers who implement objectives developed as a part of ‘Tools in Action’ programme were used to analyse such elements of a lesson as: motivation situation, the topic of a lesson or innovations introduced by the teachers to already prepared lesson plans. The teachers’ comments and suggestions which were included in the reports allowed to characterize the image of a Polish language teacher and to describe selected areas of lessons. Due to their realization the perception of an educational thought inscribed within the idea of teaching as extensive humane project is possible during the Polish lessons in second­ary schools.

Interculturality on the border of disciplines. Polish language teaching as a means of intercultural education

The goal of the article is a presentation of the existing and potential relations between Polish language teaching and intercultural education both in the theoretical and practical aspect. The authors present the basic assumptions and goals of intercultural education, paying particular attention to intercultural learning. What follows is a thorough analysis of the presence of the intercultural approach in the theory and practice of the Polish language didactics and its relation to the pedagogy.

Propos sur la lecture de la littérature et la culture. Entre obligation et liberté de choix

On reading literature and culture. Betwixt compulsion and freedom, that is a few words about the Polish language education. Dorota Michulka, département de méthodologie de l’enseignement de la langue et de la littérature, Institut de philologie polonaise, université de Wrocław (Pologne) Polish schools after the recent reform (the transformation process in education started in 1999), which concerned all levels of education, have undergone numerous revolutionary changes. From among numerous new trends, suggestions and concepts which emerged in the debates over the reformed school, I have chosen a few – as it seems – which are significant for the development of humanistic education. Those concern the following issues : cultural competence and disccusion about identity, topic -betwixt literary classics and polish popular literature and culture, the repertory of set books, the issue of a literary work and its excerpts, the specific method – about the learner-centred teaching and the revised “ high school diploma” (Matura). It appears that this transformation is centred on the autonomous work of the learner, his free choice, the development of his ability conducting a plan to end in an independant way and reporting the results in various forms, his reading and understanding literature and culture in different contexts, which often refer to the contemporary world.

Developmental Achievements of 7‐year‐old Children in Poland in the Light of International Tests and the Requirements of the Polish Language School Program

The language competence and reading comprehension of 406 7‐year‐old children are examined in the research discussed in this article. The children were tested using comparative tests as part of an international project conducted in 14 countries and sponsored by the IEA and the High Scope Research Foundation in Ypsilanti, USA. The discussion here relates only to a part of this wider research and focuses upon the aims and contents of Polish language teaching in grades I—III of the Polish primary school.
