ANALYSIS OF FORMALISM IN THE POEM “AKU” BY CHAIRIL ANWAR

Chairil Anwar's poem "Aku" is a seminal work in Indonesian literature that demonstrates fundamentalshifts in modern poetic style. Chairil Anwar, one of the main poets of the '45 Generation, is recognizedfor his creative style and method. Formalism analysis offers a framework for studying how formalstructures and poetic approaches influence the meaning and aesthetics of poetry. This study willexamine features of formalism in the poem "Aku," with a focus on meter structure, rhythm, rhymepattern, and the use of figurative language. This study employs a qualitative approach and a textanalysis method. The basic data is the poem "Aku" text, which is examined using literary formalismtheory. Identifying the structure of meter and rhythm, evaluating rhyme patterns, and investigating theusage of metaphorical language are some of the analysis tools. Secondary data, such as literature andextra references, are employed to support the analysis and interpretation. The results of the analysisdemonstrate that the meter and rhythm structure in the poem "Aku" have a major impact on the reader'saesthetic experience and strengthen the message that Chairil Anwar wishes to communicate. The rhymepattern in this poem is vital for creating a harmonious impression and reinforcing the overall structure.The use of figurative language, such as metaphor and symbolism, enhances the poem's depth of meaningand emotional power. The formalism analysis of Chairil Anwar's poetry "Aku" illustrates how formaltechniques enhance the poem's beauty and emotional potency. The structure of meter, rhythm, andrhyme pattern, as well as the usage of metaphorical language, all contribute to the poem's content andaesthetic experience. This research examines the theme of suffering in Emily Dickinson’s selected poems, focusing on her unique poetic approach and the profound emotional resonance her work evokes. Despite her reclusive life, her poetry is rich with personal imagery and symbols, reflecting her deep preoccupation with mortality and the human condition. The study utilizes a structural analytical approach, combining library research with descriptive qualitative analysis. This method involves a thorough examination of relevant literary critiques and an in-depth textual analysis of Dickinson’s poems. A Poetic Inquiry Into Journalists’ Experiences of Covering Institutional Child Sexual Abuse

This article introduces a spectrum of poetic approaches that have emerged in the analysis of research interviews with journalists who covered Australia’s Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and related stories. Six poem excerpts, from two of the poets involved in the project, are presented to explore how engaging with a spectrum of approaches—from found poetry transcription to generative methods—can be used to shed light on the situated experiences of research participants. Considering the various functions of “poetry” in this context—as container or vehicle for data, as tool for analysis, or as artistic/affective expression—the article not only explores the multiple outputs and their roles for a variety of audiences but also how these poems can evoke/ provoke/ excavate alternative perspectives—both expected and surprising—on the data.

Russian World in Yakut Heroic Epic Olonkho

This article evaluates the impact of Russian culture on the Yakut epic, Olonkho. The emergence and evolution of the Russian character in Olonkho are analyzed. Texts from various local traditions and time periods of Olonkho serve as the research material. The study employs a historical poetics approach, showcasing the evolution and changes in the portrayal of the Russian character in Yakut epic texts, considering the territorial and temporal differences in the texts and the individual characteristics of storytellers. It is determined that the semantics of this character transform from “foreign” to “native”. The Russian character in Yakut heroic epic texts initially appears through epic formulas, comparisons, and epithets, manifesting foreignness and alienation. Subsequently, the Russian individual becomes a character participating in the Olonkho plot. A transition from “foreign” to “different,” “other” is observed: intermediary zones (the meeting place of heaven and earth, forests, mountains) start resembling objects belonging to Russians. When Russian material culture aligned with the life and customs of the Yakuts, objects adopted from Russians began resembling parts of the main hero’s (bogatyr) body, vividly demonstrating the incorporation of the Russian character into the category of “ours.” References to certain realities of Orthodox Christianity are also made in Olonkho. Images of Baba Yaga, Zmey Gorynych, the forest spirit, motifs of path selection are borrowed from Russian fairy tales and myths. Russian names, names of Russian cities and places, among others, are mentioned.

Michel Serres’s Sensorial Philosophy and the Importance of Skin in Francis Bacon’s Nudes

Prompted by the exhibition Francis Bacon: Man and Beast (January–April 2022), this article takes a cultural studies and historical poetics approach to the significance of skin in Bacon’s nudes. Drawing upon Michel Serres’s philosophy and the work of prominent figures within skin studies, this article argues that Bacon’s paintings intuitively embody the significance of skin as a dynamic site/sight of sensory, lived, experience shaped by socio-historical context. Bacon’s nudes are considered in relation to the dermalogical turn; the topological body; Didier Anzieu’s skin ego and skin as our ‘deepest surface’; and the importance of movement in Bacon’s imagery, which correlates with Serres’s notion that learning occurs through bodily motion. Serres recognises that cultural works – including painting and other creative practices – can convey complex multiplicities of knowledge synthesised into new and distinct forms.

Exploring Stylistic Elements in Daud Kamal’s Poem Plough & Oxen

The stylistic study of Daud Kamal’s poem ’Plough & Oxen’ is a unique and significant contribution to Pakistani literature. It delves into the literary devices and strategies that Kamal uniquely employs to evoke meaning and readers' emotions. This study, with its aim to enhance readers' understanding of Kamal's unique style, explores how the poem's distinctive use of poetic devices enhances its aesthetic and thematic features. Kamal’s poetry stands out for its captivating use of a variety of sounds, a feature that this study aims to unravel. The poem is melodic and musical, a testament to the unique poetic approaches that this research examines. This study examines the selected poem on two levels: the Phonological level and the Syntactic level of stylistics. Phonological and syntactic levels of stylistics enable the analysis of how language is skillfully and creatively employed in poetry to produce certain stylistic effects.

The proposal explores the potential of critical experimental research, turning to medial - material practices of countermemory in the face of historical and contemporary technologies of control. This is an essay on remains of images, sounds and texts that were part of the research process of the short film "Enviado para falsar" (Maia Navas - 2021). Two spaces: Napalpí (Chaco, Argentina, 1924, where the “Napalpí indigenous massacre” by the National State took place) – Barrio Gran Toba (Resistencia, Chaco, Argentina, 2020, where descendants of qom indigenous communities were monitored by a police drone during the Covid-19 pandemic.). Two temporalities that are abyssed through montage as an aesthetic and epistemic exercise, updating the colonial legacy that operates again under the motto of care, the legality of persecution and the abuse of power. Against this, we rescue the gesture of the slingshot with which the Qom indigenous community brought down the police drone. We made interventions on the archive material of German anthropologist R. L. Nitsche linked to the 1924 Napalpí massacre and we risked irreverent gestures that operate as a glimpse to evidence its truth as artifice. We propose exercises with and on visual residues, anachronistic and poetic approaches by superimposing voices and sounds. We fable decolonizing strategies that seek to turn a past into present, by imagining its return as inventive action. Based on possible temporary deviations from the fall of the drone, operations on the image are detached. A dialogue between objects and intervening actors those who have or have not witnessed the events is traced according to a path of existing letters and publications, which account for the network of relationships between science celebrities, the State and police forces.

Not only Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Jewish had importance near him. In his poem "Nanak" he talked about Guru Nanak and monotheism. Iqbal also employed the Sanskrit phrase "Mantra, shakti in his poems. As for as Buddhism is concerned, he pointed out that "salvation lies in exchanging desire". Poetic Approach in Drama Script Study: Analysing Willy Loman’s Disappointments in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman in Teaching English as a Foreign Language Context

This article describes and explains how Culler’s (1997) poetics in the study of literature can be used to gain literary competency for the teaching of literature in an English as a foreign language (EFL) environment. The use of this strategy is discussed using one of the most famous play scripts in American literature: Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. Following Culler's poetics technique, the study focuses on one of the themes present in the play script: Willy Loman's (the main character) disappointments, which make up the majority of the story with a dramatic ending: Willy's decision to commit suicide. This article seeks to persuade EFL teachers who study literature to take Culler's side and use poetics as the beginning point for a literature study in order to increase their students’ literary ability.

Lorand Gaspar or the Writing of a Complex Existential Path

Abstract The work of Lorand Gaspar, a contemporary author of French expression, born in TarguMures, stands out for a poetic approach to existence, in which the presentation of ideas interferes with body consciousness, culture and nature. The relationships established between them retrace certain poetic, but also ethical and existential principles. The notion of non-belonging is fundamental to Gaspar's poetics. He projected himself as a nomad, subjected to both geographical and spiritual migration, something that became his main source of revitalization and an essential identity component. Besides, poetry remained for Gaspar the only country of belonging, and the road towards it ensured the coherence of the entire journey.

Pleading Nolo Contendere? Aquinas vs. Bonaventure on Poetry

AbstractWhile the story of Thomas Aquinas and Bonaventure of Bagnoregio engaging in a friendly contest, at the behest of Pope Urban IV, to compose the Mass and Office of Corpus Christi is likely a pious fiction, one can still ponder the fascinating hypothetical scenario: had such a contest taken place, who might have won? To consider that question, this paper embarks on a close reading of Bonaventure's hymns in his Office of the Passion, comparing his poetic approaches to those of Aquinas in the hymns for Corpus Christi. After an introductory historical examination into the supposed involvement of both friars in the composition of the Corpus Christi liturgy, this article proceeds in three sections. First, a look into select excerpts from Bonaventure's Office of the Passion will establish his general poetic technique. In the transitional second section, a direct comparison between Bonaventure and Aquinas on the composition of the final doxological verses of their respective hymns will place their different poetic styles into greater relief. Third, a broader reading of Aquinas's Eucharistic hymns will highlight the unique qualities of his versified praises. Finally, in light of the foregoing analyses, a prospective winner of the hypothetical contest will be suggested.

Poetry is characterized as a kind of literature or creative writing that uses a variety of poetic approaches to stimulate the reader's emotions and imagination. This study focuses on the metaphorical expression used in poetry in the book "The Everyday Poet" by Deborah Alma. The objectives of this study are to determine the types of metaphors reflected in Deborah Alma’s poetry book "The Everyday Poet," to find out the most common types of metaphors used, and to explain the meaning of the metaphors contained in the poems. The methodology used in this study is descriptive qualitative research. The data were obtained through library research and a variety of literature to present a descriptive issue. The result of this study showed that there are twelve metaphors in the book "The Everyday Poet." There are six anthropomorphic metaphors, one animal metaphor, two abstract to concrete metaphors, and three synesthetic metaphors, and based on the data, the most commonly used metaphor is anthropomorphic metaphor, which has six lines in the book "The Everyday Poet" by Debora Alma.

POETIC APPROACH IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SCHOOL CURRICULUM FOR SOCIAL CHANGE IN NIGERIA: A SOCIALIST READING OF MTSHALI AND OSUNDARE’S POETRY.

The need for effective teaching and learning has called for various approaches in impartation of knowledge, skill, attitudes and values among learners in school system. The paper attempted to employ poetic approaches in implementation of school curriculum for social change in Nigeria. Consequently, the paper used poems written by Mtshali and Osundare to present an ideal society and need for social change. The poems so used were: sound of cowhide drum and eye on the earth. The paper concluded that social change is not only a requirement for societal development, but also a condition for harmonious living. To achieve this there should be a deliberate effort to train learners who are leaders of tomorrow to embrace social change. This could help in improving their leadership potential and efficient governance which has always been lacking among many societal leaders as exemplified by many crises in African societies and beyond.

Acting with the World: Doing without Science

In this paper I contrast two systematically different patterns of acting in the world via the concepts of enframing and poiesis. Enframing is the usual stance of dualistic domination that we can associate with the Anthropocene, and I focus here on the contrast class, poiesis. To bring out its key features I discuss a form of natural farming developed in Japan by Masanobu Fukuoka, emphasising the way in which Fukuoka’s poetic approach foregrounds the performative back and forth with nature that I call a dance of agency. I review Fukuoka’s critique of the usefulness of modern science and argue instead that strands of traditional eastern philosophy help us to grasp the poetic alternative.

The Onomastics of Characters in the Kabyle Tullist Genre

AbstractThis article highlights, through a poetic approach, the onomastics of the character in a genre called tullist in the Amazigh language. The article works through the first ten collections of texts designated by the terms Tullizt / Tullist that mark the beginnings of this genre (1998–2008). An in-depth analysis then reveals the different naming processes that Kabyle writers use in assigning names to their characters. The article concludes by offering a brief sociological discussion on the semantics of the assigned names.

THE INTENSE COLOR HUE OF CORA CORALINA

This study establishes relationships between poetic approaches and techniques of artistic interventions carried out at the Casa de Cora Coralina Museum, on the banks of the Vermelho River, located in the City of Goiás. A Poetic Approach to Teaching English: Personal Account

This paper accounts for teaching English vocabulary through rhythmic patterns, including short verses. It is a personal account of poetry as a valuable tool for both learners and teachers. Adopting a qualitative research design, the study set out to refute the longstanding view that poetry is hard to learn and teach. It derives illustrations from the researcher’s personal experience, who is basically, besides composing poems, a teacher of English as a foreign language and curriculum designer. Ten short poems were used to clarify that poetry, which has taken a backseat in English language teaching for years, can now be a vivid teaching approach that numerous teachers and ELT experts advocate. On the main, verse-based teaching is motivational, amusing, and scaffolding. Based on the discussion, the study recommends using simple and easy-to-understand verses to enhance vocabulary learning, partially because rhyming words are more memorable and useable in conversational English. The study concludes with some suggestions to strengthen the evidence of the viability of poetry in TESOL programs.
