5th International Conference on Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS 2024) was held from October 19-20, 2024 in New York, United States. The conference is co-organized by Guangzhou College of Commerce and Asian Union of Information Technology. This HASS welcomes the sociologists, artists, designers, humanists, educators, teachers, policy makers, scholars, and graduate students, etc. from different cultural backgrounds to present and discuss research, developments and innovations in all fields of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. The aim of HASS 2024 is to provide a platform for sociologists, artists, designers, humanists, educators, teachers, policy makers, scholars, and graduate students, etc. from different cultural backgrounds to present and discuss research, developments and innovations in all fields of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. It provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences, to establish business or research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration. All papers were reviewed using a double-blind review process: authors declared their names and affiliations in the manuscript for the reviewers to see, but reviewers did not know each other’s identities, nor did the authors receive information about who had reviewed their manuscript. Exploration on Innovation Platforms Construction for Improving the Talent Cultivation Quality of Agricultural Built Environment and Energy Engineering Major in Agricultural University

Amidst the global transformation of energy structures and the acceleration of agricultural modernization, the cultivation of talents confronts unprecedented challenges and opportunities for agricultural built environment and energy engineering (ABEEE) programs at agricultural universities. This paper focuses on the role and practical pathways of innovative platform construction in enhancing the quality of talent cultivation in this field, aiming to explore an educational reform path that aligns with the development needs of the new era. Initially, the paper analyzes the current issues in ABEEE professional education at agricultural universities, including the disconnection between theory and practice, inadequate cultivation of innovation capabilities and the lack of distinct professional characteristics et al. Based on these insights, the necessity and urgency of constructing innovative platforms is emphasized in this work. It can effectively promote interdisciplinary integration, bolster practical operation skills for students, further strengthen their scientific research and innovation capabilities by establishing industry-university collaboration platforms with enhanced professional characteristics, scientific research innovation platforms, and virtual simulation teaching platforms et al. Finally, the necessary of continuously optimizing the functions and services of these innovative platforms, strengthening exchanges and cooperation with other higher education institutions are highlighted according to the current existing problems and challenges. This research can not only provide a novel perspective and thoughts for educational reform in agricultural universities, but also serves as a reference for talent cultivation model innovation in other fields.

Integrating Biotechnology Virtual Labs into Online Education Platforms: Balancing Information Security and Enhanced Learning Experiences

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-enabled virtual labs to offer an online educational experience utilizing computer-based teaching resources (scenes, simulations, and remote-trigger activities) to enhance the active studying experience. This article discusses a project established to improve university and college instruction, which is evolving into a sophisticated training setting for addressing the geographical, social, and financial obstacles in the interdisciplinary domain of science learning, particularly in India. A pedagogical assessment was conducted through seminars and online comments to examine the function of biotechnology simulations in the contemporary school system, involving various student and instructor groups from many Indian institutions. This chapter discusses the utilization of biotechnology virtual laboratories in biotechnology to enhance teaching and learning processes through user involvement and how these technologies successfully mitigate the challenges of laboratory schooling, particularly in remote regions. The findings from user feedback evaluation indicate that online laboratories are advisable to incorporate into blended classes in giant classrooms to improve self-sufficient instruction and enhance virtual laboratory education in isolated and financially disadvantaged institutions.

The feasibility study of online virtual education and communication platform

Since the epidemic, the demand for online virtual education in China and even the world is increasing, and the development of online virtual education platform has a good prospect.[1-2] However, because this industry is in the early stage of development, there are certain mechanism problems and Homogenization problem, resulting in poor profitability. This study aims to conduct feasibility analysis for this emerging industry by analyzing the development status and market prospect of the online education platform, and finally provide a new mode of operation of online virtual education platform around personalized customized services.

“Does Digital Education Bridge the Urban-Rural Divide in STEM Education in China? Analyzing Accessibility, Engagement, and Outcomes”

This paper examines the role of digital education in bridging the urban-rural divide in STEM education across China, focusing on accessibility, engagement, and educational outcomes. Despite significant advances in digital infrastructure and educational platforms, rural areas continue to face challenges in access to high-quality STEM education, primarily due to disparities in teacher training, resource availability, and community support. The study highlights the importance of targeted interventions, including improved teacher training, increased parental and community engagement, and tailored educational programs to address these challenges. By analyzing both short-term outcomes and long-term aspirations, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of how digital education can contribute to reducing educational inequities between urban and rural regions in China.

Cyberverse: A Game-Based Learning Application for Cyber Security

Abstract: Games are becoming more frequent in educational settings, and various technologies have been established to meet the needs of designing an education as a game. Aside from education, game-based learning is rising in popularity in various areas, including professional development and networking sites. By incorporating gaming components into the training process, educational platforms that use games will increase student engagement, motivation, and productivity. One of the most defining characteristics of game-based learning environments is their ability to produce innovative and engaging learning experiences (Gee, J. P. 2020; Hamari, J., et al 2021). Games-based learning integrates instruction with authentic gaming experiences. Scientific and popular interest in severe goal games has increased tremendously (Huang, W. H.-Y. et al. 2021; Kapp, K. M. 2020; Zhang, Y. et al. 2023). Cybersecurity refers to the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks, damage, or unauthorized access. With the increasing reliance on technology and the internet, the significance of cybersecurity has grown tremendously. It encompasses various measures, including: Threat Prevention, Incident Response, Data Protection, Awareness and Training and Compliance (Kshetri, N. 2021; Stallings, W., et al 2022; Kaspersky, E. 2020). Cyber security occupies a major part of society today. Cyber security educational games are a popular form of hands-on exercises that use gamification to train information security skills and enhance cyber security awareness. The objectives of the game application are to (1) create awareness of the necessity of the importance and function of cyber security such as password security, phishing awareness, identity theft, encryption, and network security among others. (2) to distinguish between the various topics of cyber security while playing the game application (3) to determine the evaluation tool to use in the assessment of the cognitive abilities of gamers. A quantitative research design was used to determine the process of the application while the Agile model is commonly used in game development due to its iterative and flexible nature. Technical Aspect which is the ISO 25010 and Game Aspect Method was used for the Evaluation with 60 respondents. The study can identify the genders of the respondents as male and female. The mechanics of the game can make the gamers use and test their knowledge about cyber security. Evaluation results of gamer respondents show the average mean of both males and females are interpreted as "Strongly Agree". This means that they strongly agree that cognitive abilities are used when playing the application. Meanwhile, evaluation results of technical respondents' average mean for both males and females are interpreted as also "Strongly Agree". This means that they strongly agree on all the technical aspects of the application. Overall, evaluation results of all respondents whether gamer or technical are interpreted as "Strongly Agree".

Construction and Optimization Strategies for an Online Teaching Platform for College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education

With the advent of a new era, college student entrepreneurship education has garnered significant attention from universities and society at large. The aid of information technology brings new opportunities for the smooth execution of this work. Traditional education modes, affected by objective factors, have clear drawbacks. To enhance contemporary students' innovative abilities and core competitiveness, it is necessary to build a comprehensive online teaching platform for entrepreneurship education based on actual development conditions. This platform can leverage the advantages of the internet and information technology to accurately analyze students' learning abilities and needs, providing them with personalized educational resources. Moreover, incorporating virtual laboratories and simulated entrepreneurship into practical teaching can effectively cultivate students' problem-solving abilities, fostering the development of entrepreneurship education in universities and nurturing more well-rounded talents for society.

Strategy and Management of Aesthetic Education in Vocational Ability Cultivation—Explore the Practice and Achievements of "Family Culture" of Chinese Business Characteristic Education

Under the background of the rapid development of today's society, vocational ability cultivation has become an important issue that cannot be ignored in education. Aesthetic education, as a key link in the national comprehensive quality education system, is becoming increasingly important. It is not only related to the improvement of individual aesthetic quality, but also the key factor to promote the comprehensive development of students and enhance their professional competitiveness. Through the in-depth study of the practice of "family culture" of Chinese business characteristic education in the cultivation of professional ability, this paper not only verifies the significant role of aesthetic education on the improvement of students' comprehensive quality, but also reveals its unique strategy and management path. According to the data, students who participated in the practice of "family culture" of Chinese businessmen showed higher teamwork willingness and leadership potential in the career orientation test. Their average teamwork ability score was 15% higher than that of the control group, and their leadership self-evaluation score also increased by about 10 percentage points. In terms of management strategy, Through the construction of a multi-level aesthetic education curriculum system, Huashang College organically integrates art appreciation, creative thinking, professional ethics and other contents into daily teaching, forming an interdisciplinary and comprehensive training mode. Using Internet technology to build an online aesthetic education platform, provide rich artistic resources and learning communication space, and further broaden the learning boundary of students. This mixed online and offline teaching mode not only improves students' interest and participation in learning, but also effectively promotes the internalization and application of knowledge. In short, integrating aesthetic education into the vocational education system can not only enhance students' aesthetic perception and creativity, but also show a positive impact on key professional abilities such as teamwork, leadership and social responsibility.

Teaching Reform and Practice Based on Four Dimensions and One Penetration for Sensing and Detection Technology

Sensing and Detection Technology is a core course in engineering specialties. Traditional sensor teaching methods have obvious deficiencies in cultivating students’ ability. To better foster students’ comprehensive qualities, this study explored a 4D1P (Four Dimensions and One Penetration) teaching mode. We independently developed an industrial sensor teaching platform with intellectual property rights, integrating classroom and sensor experiments to address the disconnection between traditional sensor teaching and practical application. This mode combined the teaching platform with SPOC (small private online courses) and Rain Classroom teaching software, enriching classroom teaching and stimulating students’ interest. By applying industry-academia-research integration to sensor teaching, students’ horizons were broadened and their creative thinking enriched. The mode set up discussion-based learning in the classroom, making the class atmosphere lively. Throughout the teaching process, data-driven learning and teaching evaluation were consistently applied, allowing teachers to promptly understand students’ learning situations. Data shows that under the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, students’ grades improved and they were satisfied with this teaching mode. This mode solves most current problems in university classroom teaching and significantly enhances students’ practical abilities. It also has certain significance for education in other disciplines.

Digital Platforms in Higher Education: Opportunities, Challenges, and Strategies

Abstract: Higher education institutions' adoption of digital platforms has grown rapidly in recent years. These platforms have transformed teaching and learning, providing innovative access, engagement and collaboration avenues. The emergence of digital platforms owes much to technological advances and the spread of Internet connectivity, making it easier for universities to utilize digital platforms for education. At the same time, the growing demand for flexible and personalized learning experiences has driven the adoption of digital platforms, which provide anytime, anywhere access to educational resources. However, adopting digital platforms also poses several challenges and important issues. This study aims to explore the role of digital platforms in higher education, focusing on identifying the opportunities they offer and the challenges they face for universities. This research is relevant to a wide range of stakeholders in the higher education sector, providing valuable insights for universities considering or implementing digital platforms and being beneficial to policymakers and educational organizations shaping the future of higher education.

The Application of Flipped Classroom Teaching Model in German Reading Teaching

The flipped classroom teaching model is the product of the information age. German teachers in colleges and universities should actively carry out flipped classroom teaching, make micro-lessons according to the teaching focus of reading class, upload micro-lessons to online teaching platform and scientifically guide students to preview before class; Actively carry out online live teaching, discuss with students the content of micro-lessons, text topics, and carry out deep reading teaching; Actively carry out online tests to test the effect of online German reading teaching; Carry out offline precision teaching to answer questions for students and improve their German reading comprehension; With the help of online teaching platform to carry out after-school extended learning guidance, publish group German reading tasks, and comprehensively improve the quality of German reading teaching in universities.

The Evolution of Theories, Transformations, and Emerging Trends in Distance Education Worldwide: A Comprehensive Research Article

Purpose: The fundamental objective of the current comprehensible research article is to dwell on the developmental and historical process, theoretical approaches and foundations, along with technological improvements of newly emerging trends in distance education. Furthermore, the study puts a great deal of emphasis on the most significant psychological theories such as behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism and in what ways they can contribute to the effectiveness of distance education platforms. The study also explores the theoretical foundations such as systems theory, communication theory and media theory along with a focus on connectivism to comprehend distance education with a careful assessment on the integration of the emerging technological advancements such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality by revealing their transformative impacts and the potential on distance education. Henceforth, to accomplish such an aim, the current article provides a comprehensive analysis of distance education and offers a collection of insights into distance education for teachers, policymakers and other researchers in the relevant field. Design/Methodology/Approach: The current article employs a literature review as a research method to assess and evaluate the essential existing research body and to obtain definitive, evidence-based, practical, compelling and persuasive data within the relevant field of distance education from a constructivist perspective to find a clear answer to the research questions. Findings: The current study accentuates and finds that the improvements in technology, particularly, the Internet and fiber optics, have a transformative impact on distance education by improving interactivity and accessibility. Distance education seems to have evolved from corresponding with letters to sophisticated online platforms, enhancing global accessibility and overcoming challenges and obstacles. Psychological theories such as behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism are of high importance in optimizing learning experiences in this technological era. Highlights: The study highlights that the emerging trends in technology, comprising virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI), have a profound transformative effect on distance education by improving interactivity, visualization, and individualized learning experiences. VR and AR offer immersive, 3D settings that enhance involvement, engagement and understanding, whereas AI grands individualized learning and assessments, reshaping traditional educational methods and enhancing access to effective and productive learning opportunities.

Artificial Intelligence Assistance and Cognitive Abilities: Harnessing AI-Assisted Heuristic Methods for Transitioning from Critical to Creative Thinking in English Language Learning

Transitioning from critical to creative thinking is an essential component of English language learning, fostering problem-solving abilities, innovative idea generation, and effective communication skills. Purpose. This study examines the potential of AI-assisted heuristic methods in facilitating this cognitive shift. Methodology. Three distinct AI-driven approaches are investigated: adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring, and data-driven feedback. A mixed-methods approach is employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the AI-assisted heuristic methods and learners' experiences during the intervention. The study involves 60 participants, divided into three groups of 20, each exposed to one of the three AI-driven methods. English language learning resources, including reading passages, audio recordings, and interactive exercises, are integrated with the AI-assisted techniques. The 8-week intervention commences with a pre-test assessing participants' initial critical and creative thinking skills. Post-tests and surveys are administered following the intervention to measure cognitive development and gather feedback on learners' experiences. Results. Results demonstrate significant improvements in problem-solving and originality of idea generation among participants. Furthermore, learners report positive experiences and recognize the value of AI-driven approaches in personalizing learning and promoting cognitive growth. However, challenges such as technological barriers and teacher training needs are highlighted. The current research underscores the potential of AI-assisted heuristic methods in English language learning, offering valuable insights into effective teaching strategies, learning tools, and platforms. Conclusion. Findings contribute to the development of innovative interventions supporting learners in acquiring essential thinking skills amidst rapid technological advancements, ultimately empowering them to succeed in today's interconnected and knowledge-driven world.

Construction of Virtual Experiment Teaching Platform based on 5E Teaching Mode and VI Technology

Virtual instruments have many advantages such as low cost, comprehensive functionality, easy scalability, and easy replication. At the same time, they can also meet the special requirements of time and space for remote experiments. Based on Web technology and virtual instrument technology, a virtual experiment system is constructed, which combines data sharing, remote control, and real-time operation. More conducive to utilizing experimental and scientific research resources. At the same time, virtual instruments have high flexibility and are no longer limited by traditional experimental teaching modes, which can save a lot of repeated investment costs. They can also keep the teaching equipment in the laboratory up-to-date and closely follow the development trend of science and technology. As a compulsory course for mechanical engineering majors, although the existing experimental system has achieved certain results, there are still limitations to 'Mechanical Engineering Testing Technology'. This article aims to address the problems of insufficient instrument sets and outdated equipment in the experimental teaching of "Mechanical Engineering Testing Technology", as well as students' poor ability to apply theory to practice and insufficient innovation ability. By integrating the 5E teaching mode, a virtual experimental teaching platform based on VI (Virtual Instrument) technology is established. Students can break through traditional experimental methods and conduct various experiments through the network, obtaining experimental experiences that are very similar to real experiments. At the same time, it can deepen their understanding and recognition of experiments, and better grasp theoretical knowledge.

Course Success Prediction and Early Identification of At-Risk Students Using Explainable Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in online education platforms to provide valuable insights into students’ performance and success. However, the complexity of AI models makes it challenging for educators to interpret the specific factors that influence whether a student is going to pass or fail. Utilizing the Open University Learning Analytics Dataset (OULAD), this study employs various machine learning and deep learning techniques for predicting students’ success, along with SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) as an Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) technique, to understand the key factors behind success or failure. Unlike traditional statistical methods that explore variable relationships, this AI-driven approach uses advanced deep learning techniques to identify patterns and insights, allowing for a better understanding of the factors influencing student success. Additionally, this study focuses on identifying students at risk of failure using XAI techniques, specifically SHAP, to interpret model outputs by breaking down how specific factors contribute to a student’s success. This method enables targeted interventions to support their success. Results reveal that student engagement and registration timelines are critical factors affecting performance. The customized models achieve up to 94% accuracy for the designed tasks, outperforming traditional approaches. This study contributes to the use of AI in education and offers practical insights not only for educators but also for administrators and policymakers to enhance the quality and effectiveness of online learning.

FoCa – Free of Carbon Architecture –an educational and informational online platform supporting the decarbonization of the construction sector in Poland and Turkey

Wrocław University of Science and Technology, in consortium with the Polish Association of Ecological Buildings (PLGBC), the Institute of Building Technology (ITB) and research and scientific units from Turkey, started the international project FoCA – Free of Carbon Architecture. Its aim is to create a publicly available tool – an interactive internet platform providing information on the environmental properties of construction materials and products available in Poland and Turkey. The platform allows users to compare and evaluate the environmental impact of selected building materials. As part of the platform's development, information is collected about building materials or products available on local markets, in the form of data describing their selected environmental impacts (GWPfossil, GWPbiogenic, GWPtotal, TRPE, TNRPE, WD). The platform allows to compare building materials and perform analyzes for conceptual building designs. In addition, producers of building materials can also benefit from the project because they will receive information about the environmental properties of some of their products. The platform will be available in the second half of 2024.

Nursing students' knowledge and related factors towards skin cancer: A systematic review

This systematic review aims to examine the nursing students' knowledge and related factors towards skin cancer. In order to conduct this comprehensive and review study, articles were searched from the earliest to April 1, 2023 using keywords extracted from Medical Subject Headings such as "knowledge", "skin cancer", and "nursing students" in various international electronic databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Persian electronic databases such as Iranmedex and Scientific Information Database. The appraisal tool for cross-sectional studies (AXIS tool) was used to evaluate the quality of the studies included in this article. In total, 2,841 nursing students participated in five cross-sectional studies. The average age of the students was 20.93 (SD=1.89). 78.07% of the students in this study were female. 19.70% of students had a history of skin cancer in their family member. The average nursing students' knowledge and related factors towards skin cancer was 14.78 (SD=2.68) out of 25 which suggests a moderate level of knowledge. Factors such as year of study, female gender, age, using cosmetics, using depilatory wax, using epilating appliance, skin cancer caused by sun exposure, and protection of information have a significant positive relationship with nursing students' knowledge about skin cancer. However, knowledge had a negative relationship with factors such as using shaving, having mole, and having swelling. Additionally, the factors of father education, place of residence, sunburn frequency, source information had a significant relationship with nursing students' knowledge about skin cancer. According to the results of this review, the knowledge of nursing students in skin cancer is moderate. Therefore, nursing professors may contribute to the development of nursing students' knowledge by providing an online or physical education platform related to skin cancer.

The Design of Teaching and Learning Platform to Support Exchange Learning for Elementary and Middle Schools in Korea

The education sector needs to improve education quality after the post-pandemic and subsequent decline in educational attainment. Additionally, there has been a heightened reliance on private education, coupled with the projected inflection point of 2070, when the global population will decline. Various solutions have been developed and implemented to support changing educational environments and teaching methods. However, despite these efforts, the problem of a widening educational gap between urban and rural students persists. This is due to difficulties accessing educational resources caused by long distances between schools, and there is an increasing demand for practical measures to make education more inclusive. In this case study, we analyzed the building and operation of a teaching-learning platform. We interviewed stakeholders to prepare a preemptive response to social issues that education will face in the future. Through this, we derived considerations for an exchange learning-based teaching-learning platform (that supports teachers' exchange learning lesson designs) and proposed a design plan platform. The results of this study are expected to minimize the learning gap between urban and rural areas, support the development of educational programs that consider students' interests, and adjust the educational difficulty to a suitable level for each student. It is also believed to help develop and utilize an AI-based, learner-customized learning platform.

Utilizing Baidu Index Data to Investigate the Spatiotemporal Characteristics of Public Concern towards Lifelong Education

Background and purpose: With the advancement of Industry 4.0 and the vigorous development of the Internet, search engines have become one of the important platforms for the public to obtain information. As the world's largest Chinese search engine, Baidu is widely popular with the Chinese public. Similar to Google Trends, the Baidu Index is one of the most important databases on the Internet and even in the entire data age. This study adopted the Baidu Index to investigate the public's attention to "Lifelong Education" and analyze its changing trend and geographical distribution, to grasp the public's attention to it in a more comprehensive way. Materials and methods: The Baidu Index was used to obtain the attention of the keyword “Lifelong Education" from July to November 2023. The characteristics of attention are analyzed from three aspects: trend research, demand graph, and user portrait. Finally, it focuses on the comparison between the keyword "Lifelong Education" and the related word "Lifelong Education Platform". Results: The term "Lifelong Education" showed two fluctuations during the period, both of which showed an initial rise and then a decline. For the demand graph, the public pays the most attention to "Lifelong Education Platform", "Lifelong Learning" and "Compulsory Education". The group that pays more attention to "Lifelong Education" is mainly distributed in East China, mostly female, 20~29 years old. Conclusion: Similar to Google Trends, the Baidu Index is a useful tool to study the trend of keyword searches, insight into the change in netizens' demand and monitoring the trend of media public opinion. The results show that the main reasons for the two obvious changes in search volume are that the National Open University of China opens freely lifelong education platform and provides free and comprehensive learning resources, and "Lifelong Education" appears as a translation in the National College English Test Band 4 (CET-4) in June 2023.
