Innovation and Digital Potential of the Global Space Activities: Peculiarities of the Current Stage

The article is devoted to the analysis of the main aspects of the development of the world space activities: the growth of the space economy; an increase in the number of space activities subjects (both in the country aspect and in the functional aspects, such as the state, the private sector, public-private partnership). The impact of the space activities on the development of other sectors of the economy is emphasized. Particular emphasis of this conducted research is on the American space activities. The spiral-evolutionary approach to the development of space activities is discussed. The most important key space technologies both in terms of the development of space-based facilities and systems and the space production complex and also the main approaches of the leading space countries to the development of the space weapons are determined by the authors. In total identified aspects underline the necessity for the extension of the discussion platforms for the activating debates concerning determination of the prospects for the development of the world space activity.

Digitalized Everyday Past: History of Everyday Life Database

The article presents the international digital humanities project called History of Everyday Life Database and its possibilities for use in humanities research. The foundations of this project, which is run by the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, were laid in the 1990s. Its main goal is to form a digital collection of sources (mainly biographical documents) on the history of “everyday life”. The database includes hundreds of such sources in the Czech and German languages and makes them accessible to scholars, students and the public, helping them get a different perspective on the past, one that was not shaped only by “great history”. The project also aims to create an interdisciplinary platform for mutual discussion and a common research space for scholars dealing with the topics of the history of everyday life and memory studies.

The impact of professional development training on faculty’s integration of universal design for learning in daily teaching practices

ABSTRACT Even though Inclusive Education (IE) is required both legally and socially, it is often not implemented in the day-to-day teaching practice of faculty in higher education (HE) institutions. Professional development (PD) training is considered an important means to address this discrepancy, however, its impact on the long-term implementation of IE is unclear. This exploratory study is the first of its kind to systematically investigate the impact of three factors – PD training design, participant characteristics and organisational culture – on faculty’s subjective learning gains and the sustained integration of universal design for learning (UDL). Utilising a quasi-experimental design, we administered a survey to faculty members who had engaged in various PD trainings related to UDL at a prominent Norwegian university. Our findings indicate that HE institutions should establish two conditions to support faculty in the implementation of UDL in their teaching practice: extended training rather than brief sessions and creating platforms for ongoing discussions on UDL even beyond the training.

The International scientific conference “Civil Engineering Design and Construction” (DCB), which began in 2000 as a national conference organized by the Union of Bulgarian Construction Engineers and the Bulgarian Scientific and Technical Union of Civil Engineering, is held biennially. This conference holds significant importance for Bulgaria, providing a platform for scientists, researchers, and experts to showcase their achievements, share their experiences, and present innovative ideas in various fields of design, construction, and architecture. This international scientific forum has been a platform for in-depth discussions and fruitful meetings since 2006. The DCB conference was held at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” in Bulgaria on September 12-13, 2024. In its thirteenth iteration, is a premier international event organized by the Scientific and Technical Union of Civil Engineering in Bulgaria (NTSSB), with strong supporting from the Federation of Bulgarian Scientific and Technical Unions, Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design, Bulgarian Construction Chamber, Varna Free University, and the “Evrika” Foundation. A key focus of this year’s conference was the transformative role of digitalization and Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction industry. Participants presented their work on-site, and their presentations were screened in the conference halls. The conference program featured five sessions, including two plenary sessions and 58 specialized reports. In addition to the primary Bulgarian scientific organizers and representatives from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Geodesy, the University of Structural Engineering and Architecture “Lyuben Karavelov”, Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”, New Bulgarian University, the University of Transport “Todor Kableshkov”, European Polytechnical University, the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”, and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), scientists from Northern Ireland, Lithuania, Turkey, and Syria participated in the scientific forum. In addition to thematic discussions on the main topics, a special session for young scientists was organized, supported by the “Evrika” Foundation. CAR Tcells in autoimmune disease: On the road to remission.

Several recent reports have demonstrated that B cell-targeting chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) Tcells offer a viable treatment option for patients with autoantibody-mediated autoimmune diseases. To present additional data on this therapy and discuss strategies for more efficient clinical translation, leading experts in CAR Tcell therapy for autoimmunity from various countries, including China, Germany, and the United States, convened at the "1st International Autoimmune CAR T Innovators Summit" in Grassau, Germany, from May 10-12, 2024. The summit showcased additional insights of CAR Tcell therapy in diverse autoimmune diseases and provided platforms for discussions on key questions through workshops and roundtables. Here, we summarize the recent findings and key developments reported at the summit.

COLLABORATIVE LEARNING: THE POWER OF ONLINE COMMUNITY

This study explores the critical role that online communities play in fostering collaborative learning by examining the various technological advances and pedagogical approaches that are being used to change the educational experience. In a comprehensive literature review, we examine the evolution of collaborative learning in the digital environment, from asynchronous discussion platforms to immersive virtual environments and artificial intelligence systems. Our analysis shows that online communities, when integrated effectively, offer unique opportunities for collective knowledge construction, overcoming cultural and geographic barriers. However, we also identify important challenges, such as the need to ensure equity in participation and foster sustained engagement. The study highlights the importance of a balanced approach that puts educational principles first, rather than simply implementing technology, and emphasizes the need for educators to develop new facilitation skills. propose strategies to create more inclusive and adaptable learning environments using emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality. Thus, we found that, despite having transformative potential for collaborative learning, online communities are useful to apply in a careful and contextualized way, based on constant research and collaboration between all participants in the educational ecosystem.

“I don’t like guns but having one in Winnipeg right now would feel safer”: Crime, liquor theft, and online fantasies of punishment and control

In 2018–2019, there was a surge of local news media coverage in Winnipeg, Canada about what news media described as “brazen” liquor store theft. Online discussion and social media platforms provided segments of the public with opportunities to assert claims about the causes and consequences of this putative crime wave as well as potential solutions within and outside the penal system. These online fora allowed internet communities to imagine new methods of crime control and vocalize a range of emotions about crime and punishment. Employing a thematic analysis of reader comments across several online and social media platforms, we argue that these online discussions about liquor theft provide an empirical case study of the new digital media logic that facilitates highly volatile and short-lived moral panics or “firestorms.” We draw upon cultural criminology scholarship to highlight the centrality of emotion in online discussions on liquor theft. By making emotion central, online discussions provide a clearer glimpse into the displaced rage that is thought to set moral panics in motion. We argue that online platforms constitute an important medium to understand how people imagine and envision punishment and control, as well as how they construct/conceive of offenders and the purported problems underlying crime.

Engaging citizens in experiments with computational analysis of patient stories: From unwarranted reductions to meaningful insights

In recent years, citizen engagement in policy and research has gained considerable momentum. In the healthcare domain, patient narratives, through various mediums, have emerged as a valuable source of insight into the experiences of patients and the healthcare system. Recognizing the value of such textual data, diverse analytical methods have been developed, spanning from text mining to narrative analysis. This article presents experiments that combine computational methods, qualitative methods and citizen science for analyzing patients’ stories. In this article, we reflect on two experiments in which we combined these approaches, which we analyze through a generative lens. We distinguish three main effects of the experiments: they provide a platform for discussions as a 'site of controversy'; they act as 'mediator', fostering new connections and mutual understanding among participants; and they serve as 'tin opener', stimulating substantive discussions about methodological development and substantive healthcare matters. Narrative reduction, which occurs when rich narrative data is simplified into structured quantifiable forms, is not inherently problematic; instead, it can be meaningful when combined with qualitative methods and citizen science, emphasizing the importance of utilizing diverse methods to balance authenticity and gaining broader insights. The study highlights the significance of collaborative sense-making and meaning-making in interdisciplinary research. Engaging patients, their relatives, and professionals in the analytical process, facilitated by tools like word clouds, promotes engaged discussions that yield actionable insights. Further development of such interdisciplinary approaches holds promise for a more nuanced understanding of patient experiences, fostering epistemological pluralism, and refining healthcare practices.

With the rapid development of global science and technology and industry, intelligence, automation and informationization have become an irreversible trend in all walks of life. This trend not only promotes the innovation and application of technology, but also puts forward unprecedented challenges and demands for precision measurement and control technology. It is against this backdrop that the 2024 4th International Conference on Measurement Control and Instrumentation (MCAI 2024) was convened, bringing together leading experts, scholars, and researchers from across the globe to share their latest insights and groundbreaking achievements. Held in Guangzhou, China from August 23rd to 25th, 2024, this prestigious event served as a pivotal platform for interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations. The MCAI conference series has a rich history of fostering intellectual exchange and promoting scientific advancements in the field. Building upon the success of its previous conferences, MCAI 2024 was created to expand the horizons of knowledge by addressing a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to Testing Instrument Design, Intelligent Instrumentation, Precision Manufacturing and Measurement, Welding Technology and Equipment, Electrical Control Technology, Automatic Control System, Information Detection and Processing Technology, etc. The conference attracted a diverse array of participants from around the world, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of modern-day research in these domains and the internationalization of the conference. Environmental and engineering geophysics is an essential branch of applied physics. It studies and solves environmental engineering problems through the differences in physical properties of the environment and engineering or the physical fields formed by them to pursue the harmonious development of humans and nature. The main application areas include resource exploration, environmental protection, disaster prevention and control, and major national construction projects. The exploration target is mainly in the shallow surface layer. Due to the severe lateral changes in physical properties, serious interference with effective signals, high requirements for measurement accuracy and spatial resolution, wide coverage of work tasks, and the need for repeated and even continuous dynamic observation and imaging, this field is very challenging. On the one hand, humans obtain water and minerals from the superficial layer and construct underground spaces necessary for modern cities to accommodate water, electricity, gas, communication, transportation, and other pipeline networks; on the other hand, they discharge and bury various wastes generated by human activities in them, forming a geological layer unique to the Anthropocene. Both from the technical (physical) and non-technical (political, social, legal) perspectives, environmental and engineering geophysics play an increasingly important role. In recent years, artificial intelligence technology has been widely applied in various fields, and the construction of smart cities cannot be separated from the support of environmental engineering geophysical detection and monitoring methods and technologies. The urbanization process in China is in line with the development of geophysical technology, and it has better scientific research and application opportunities than Western developed countries. In order to promote exchanges, improve the application level of environmental and engineering geophysics, and provide a first-class platform for extensive exchanges and discussions for those engaged in scientific research, technology development, and production applications in this field, the 11th International Conference on Environmental and Engineering Geophysics (ICEEG2024) has be held in the beautiful city of Shenzhen, a frontier city of reform and opening up, and the newly-established double first-class university, Southern University of Science and Technology. The Origin of “The Citizen”: Authors, Concepts, Genres

The article proposes a systematic analysis of the weekly “Grazhdanin” (“The Citizen”) in the first year of its publication (1872), just prior to F. M. Dostoevsky joining its staff. According to its opponents, the image of the “Grazhdanin” (“The Citizen”) was determined exclusively by V. P. Meshchersky, nicknamed the “dot prince” for his call to halt the movement towards a constitutional reform. Both the strengths and weaknesses of Meshchersky’s program and the writing style are revealed. At the same time, contrary to the well-established opinion about the prince’s monopoly in shaping the concept of the periodical, the importance of other key authors is revealed — both those whom Meshchersky called “receivers” in his memoirs, and those whom he did not mention for some reason. The concept of the publication was formed at the junction of ideological and stylistic traditions, adopted by its authors from Slavophiles and members of the Native Soil movement, on the one hand (M. I. Koyalovich, N. N. Strakhov, A. N. Maikov, I. Yu. Nekrasov), and from the state-conservative “Katkov” journalism, on the other (B. M. Markevich, P. K. Shchebalsky, K. P. Pobedonostsev). The desire for harmony of moral (Christian) and legal (state) principles was the basis of the projective concept of the “Grazhdanin” (“The Citizen”). These principles were not always reconciled with each other, causing internal editorial controversy. It did not necessarily mean a break (although this has happened), since it was about the formation of a single broad “Russian” trend, which Strakhov, following Fyodor and Mikhail Dostoevsky, defined as the “Russian party.” Meshchersky’s idea from the very beginning was to create a press body that would become a discussion platform for the free expression of “independent” minds. The rejection of the authoritarian style (which prevailed at that time in radical and liberal journalism) brings to mind the experience of the Dostoevsky brothers’ magazines “Vremya” and “Epocha”. “Grazhdanin” (“The Citizen”) also aimed for dialogue, rather than dictate — a dialogue with the authorities, the zemstvo, the nobility, the church, and the youth. In this regard, it is clear why the pages of the weekly preferred a genre as autonomous as “letters”: historical, political, literary, theatrical, provincial, travel, letters to the editor. In an effort to present the polyphony of opinions of “decent people” who are not indifferent to the fate of the country, Meshchersky sometimes resorted to role-playing journalism, writing letters to himself on behalf of a peasant, a teacher, a zemstvo worker, a military man. In general, in the aggregate of all published materials, “Grazhdanin” (“The Citizen”) appears to be a publication that resolutely and sometimes boldly raised the question of the price of the ongoing changes, the destruction of the moral and spiritual foundations of society and the state, and a return to traditional Christian values. The weekly formed an updated kind of conservative journalism, which was further developed in the journalistic work of F. M. Dostoevsky.

PECULIARITIES OF THE ACTIVITIES OF WOMEN CULTURAL AMBASSADORS WHO CREATE A POSITIVE IMAGE OF UKRAINE IN THE WORLD IN THE CONTEXT OF THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR

The article emphasises that public diplomacy is one of those areas and dimensions where a woman, using all her skills, can best prove herself. After all, public diplomacy really has no restrictions, reservations, templates, frameworks, clearly defined rules and canons, protocol and regulations. It can have a wide variety of manifestations, include different tools, and at the same time speak freely to any foreign-language, foreign-culture audience. Today, especially in times of war, a woman of any profession can become influential in the field of public diplomacy, and this will be valuable in helping Ukraine. However, it is now important to support Ukrainian women, open up new opportunities for development, teach public diplomacy tools, promote the potential of public diplomacy at the community level, and create special organisations, platforms, initiate discussion and expert platforms so that Ukrainian women unite, share experiences in public diplomacy, seek and find material and spiritual resources for projects, and thus feel more confident and bold - this will be invaluable to our country. Everyone can engage in public diplomacy. And in the context of Russia's current brutal war against Ukraine, it is a duty for all Ukrainians: both those who have recently been forced to move abroad and those who have long lived in exile and are part of the Ukrainian diaspora. Even those who leave Ukraine for a short time for one reason or another unwittingly become ambassadors of their country. Today, any step, contact, speech, appeal, or larger action by a Ukrainian man or a Ukrainian woman may result in the attention and positive attitude of a foreigner who is a representative of the civil society of a particular country, which in turn may provide financial or military assistance to Ukraine. However, on the other hand, public diplomacy, in my expert opinion, is not for everyone. It is, indeed, a very thorough and complex phenomenon, something that requires flair, experience, practice, knowledge, skill, mastery and considerable resources, both intellectual, spiritual and material.

Evidence-Based Programs in France: Insights and Strategies for Implementation Support

Abstract Issue In France, both regional and national health institutions increasingly support and fund the implementation of evidence-based programs (EBP), promoted at the national level by the French Public Health agency. Description of the problem practitioners who implement EBP face several operational questions: scaling issues, implementation in specific and varying contexts, integration and adjustment to daily regional practices. Results/effects In 2023, the French Society for Public Health initiated a collaborative effort to create a platform for discussion among practitioners, researchers, and decision-makers involved in EBP implementation. The first step was to assess EPB implementation experiences, using 3 types of data: an analysis of 6 documented EBP (capitalization works), an online questionnaire answered by 29 stakeholders, and four focus groups with funders, researchers, practitioners, and institutions. Data analysis was based on thematic content analysis and structural data analysis. Lessons Different ways to implement EBP were identified through a typology. The results highlight favorable conditions and levers for EPB implementation in France: • Facilitate access and adoption of EBP by concerned stakeholders, including through clear communication and knowledge sharing; • Strengthen and value support for implementation support (i.e., providing necessary resources and continuous monitoring); • A ‘favorable environment’ is also required (i.e. regional context acceptability and information on program themes or topics); • Breadthen perspectives and promote mutual learning through sharing and comparing implementation experiences across regions; • Value transferability and adaptation studies, which are key to enable EBP adaptations to account for context specificities while maintaining effectiveness. The platform’s next steps are to develop deployment tools and structure an advocacy strategy to mobilize stakeholders around the issue. Key messages • Achieving wide-scale implementation of EBP requires to tackle key implementation issues such as scaling, context adaptation, etc. and to give support to implementing stakeholders. • A collaborative assessment helped identify levers and barriers to EBP implementation in France. Involvement in EBP fosters an evidence-based mindset among practitioners.

Adult Immunization Board: A platform to provide guidelines for implementation of adult immunization

Abstract Background Several organizations, including governments, (inter)national public health organizations and vaccine manufactures are currently considering how adult immunization can be further improved to increase health impact and promote a lifelong approach to vaccination. Despite many organizations thinking about ways to improve adult immunization, there is currently no multidisciplinary discussion platform focusing on this topic at the European level. Therefore, a group of experts in the field of adult immunization established the Adult Immunization Board (AIB). Methods AIB is established with the aim of contributing to the reduction of the impact of vaccine-preventable infections and diseases in European adults. AIB works by organizing 2 meetings per year: 1) a technical meeting to discuss specific technical aspects on adult immunization with subject-matter experts, and 2) a country meeting to discuss country specific aspects of adult immunization together with local experts. Results In April 2023 and 2024 the AIB organized its first technical meetings on “Assessing the health burden of vaccine-preventable infections in European Adults (2023)” and “Strategies for introducing and implementing vaccines for adults into National Immunization Programs in Europe (2024)”. In December 2023, the AIB organized its first country meeting in Italy with local experts to learn out best practices in adult immunization and address aspects to improve. Conclusions AIB is a platform that brings together the different key European stakeholders in adult immunization to effectively contribute towards the implementation and optimization of adult immunization programs in Europe. Key messages • Continued efforts to promote research, implementation, awareness, accessibility, and vaccine uptake are crucial to mitigate the burden of (future) infectious diseases in the adult population. • The AIB represents a significant step towards bolstering adult immunization efforts in the EU.

The article provides an overview of the International Conference “The Russian statehood and challenges of the XXI century”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the 40th anniversary of the Department of State and Legal Disciplines of the Academy of Management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The forum was held in a mixed (face-to-face and online) format on three discussion platforms (a plenary session, the round table and the rostrum of the young scientist).

Insights Into Critical Discussion: Designing a Computer‐Supported Collaborative Space for Middle Schoolers

Collaborative learning environments that support students' problem solving have been shown to promote better decision‐making, greater academic achievement, and more reasonable argumentation about controversial issues. In this research, we developed a technology‐based critical discussion platform to support middle school students' argumentation, with a focus on evidence‐based reasoning and perspective taking. A feasibility study was conducted to examine the patterns of group interaction and individual students' contributions to the critical discussion and their perceptions of the critical discussion activity. We found that more students used text‐based communications than audio, but students who used audio collaborated with each other more frequently. In addition, student engagement in argumentative discourse varied greatly across groups as well as individuals. At the end of the discussion, most groups provided a solution that integrated both sides of the controversial issue. Survey and interview results suggest an overall positive experience with this technology‐supported critical discussion activity. Using the insights from our research, we develop a conceptual dialogue analysis framework that identifies relevant skills under the argumentation and collaboration dimensions. In this report, we discuss our design considerations, feasibility study results, and implications of engaging students in computer‐supported collaborative argumentation.
