Chait1 1 Laboratory of Pharmacology, Neurobiology and behaviour, Faculty of Science, Morocco 2 Laboratory of Chemical of Natural substances and Heterocycles, Faculty of Science, Morocco Rubia peregrina is a member of the family (Rubiaceae) known in Morocco as "Foua" is used in folk medicine particularly for the treatment of anaemia as well as the illness of liver and hypotensive diseases. Aim of study: the objectives of this study were to investigate the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of the root ethanolic extract of Rubia peregrine (R.P.) Materials and methods: the analgesic effects of (R.P.) were evaluated with three models: acetic acid induced writhing response, formalin test and hot plate test in mice and the inflammation induced by xylene in the mice ear oedema model was adopted to study the anti-inflammatory activity of (R.P.). Results: oral administration of roots ethanolic extract dependently reduced the behavioural response in formalin and writhing test and inhibited both phases of pain. It also increased latencies in the thermal stimuli models. Ethanolic extract orally administered significantly reduced the xylene induced ear oedema. Conclusion: The results suggested that Rubia peregrina possessed the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities.
