Soil selenium enhanced the resistance of oilseed rape to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum by optimizing the plant microbiome.

Plant can recruit beneficial microbes to enhance their ability to resist disease. Selenium is well established as a beneficial element in plant growth, but its role in mediating microbial disease resistance remained poorly understood. Here, we investigated the correlation between selenium, oilseed rape rhizosphere microbes and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. Soil application of 0.5 and 1.0mg/kg selenium significantly increased the resistance of oilseed rape to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum compared with no selenium application, and the disease inhibition rate was higher than 20%. The disease resistance of oilseed rape was related to rhizosphere microorganisms, and beneficial bacteria isolated from the rhizosphere inhibited Sclerotinia stem rot. Burkholderia cepacia, and synthetic community enhanced plant disease resistance through transcriptional regulation and activated plant-induced systemic resistance to protect plants. Besides, inoculation of isolated bacteria optimized the bacterial community structure of leaves and enriched beneficial microorganisms such as Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Sphingomonas. Bacillus isolated from the leaves were sprayed on the detached leaves, and it also performed a significant inhibition effect on Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. Overall, our results suggested that selenium drive plant rhizosphere microorganisms to increase resistance to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in oilseed rape.

Characterization of Rhizosphere Microbial Diversity and Selection of Plant-Growth-Promoting Bacteria at the Flowering and Fruiting Stages of Rapeseed.

Plant rhizosphere microorganisms play an important role in modulating plant growth and productivity. This study aimed to elucidate the diversity of rhizosphere microorganisms at the flowering and fruiting stages of rapeseed (Brassica napus). Microbial communities in rhizosphere soils were analyzed via high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA for bacteria and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) DNA regions for fungi. A total of 401 species of bacteria and 49 species of fungi in the rhizosphere soil samples were found in three different samples. The composition and diversity of rhizosphere microbial communities were significantly different at different stages of rapeseed growth. Plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs) have been widely applied to improve plant growth, health, and production. Thirty-four and thirty-one PGPR strains were isolated from the rhizosphere soil samples collected at the flowering and fruiting stages of rapeseed, respectively. Different inorganic phosphorus- and silicate-solubilizing and auxin-producing capabilities were found in different strains, in addition to different heavy-metal resistances. This study deepens the understanding of the microbial diversity in the rapeseed rhizosphere and provides a microbial perspective of sustainable rapeseed cultivation.

Manipulating rhizosphere microorganisms to improve crop yield in saline-alkali soil: a study on soybean growth and development.

Rhizosphere microorganisms can effectively promote the stress resistance of plants, and some beneficial rhizosphere microorganisms can significantly promote the growth of crops under salt stress, which has the potential to develop special microbial fertilizers for increasing the yield of saline-alkali land and provides a low-cost and environmentally friendly new strategy for improving the crop yield of saline-alkali cultivated land by using agricultural microbial technology. In May 2022, a field study in a completely randomized block design was conducted at the Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences to explore the correlation between plant rhizosphere microorganisms and soybean growth in saline-alkali soil. Two soybean cultivars (Hening 531, a salt-tolerant variety, and 20_1846, a salt-sensitive variety) were planted at two experimental sites [Daqing (normal condition) and Harbin (saline-alkali conditions)], aiming to investigate the performance of soybean in saline-alkali environments. Soybeans grown in saline-alkali soil showed substantial reductions in key traits: plant height (25%), pod number (26.6%), seed yield (33%), and 100 seed weight (13%). This underscores the unsuitability of this soil type for soybean cultivation. Additionally, microbial analysis revealed 43 depleted and 56 enriched operational taxonomic units (OTUs) in the saline-alkali soil compared to normal soil. Furthermore, an analysis of ion-associated microbes identified 85 mOTUs with significant correlations with various ions. A co-occurrence network analysis revealed strong relationships between specific mOTUs and ions, such as Proteobacteria with multiple ions. In addition, the study investigated the differences in rhizosphere species between salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive soybean varieties under saline-alkali soil conditions. Redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that mOTUs in saline-alkali soil were associated with pH and ions, while mOTUs in normal soil were correlated with Ca2+ and K+. Comparative analyses identified significant differences in mOTUs between salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive varieties under both saline-alkali and normal soil conditions. Planctomycetes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria were dominant in the bacterial community of saline-alkali soil, with significant enrichment compared to normal soil. The study explored the functioning of the soybean rhizosphere key microbiome by comparing metagenomic data to four databases related to the carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur cycles. A total of 141 KOs (KEGG orthologues) were identified, with 66 KOs related to the carbon cycle, 16 KOs related to the nitrogen cycle, 48 KOs associated with the phosphorus cycle, and 11 KOs linked to the sulfur cycle. Significant correlations were found between specific mOTUs, functional genes, and phenotypic traits, including per mu yield (PMY), grain weight, and effective pod number per plant. Overall, this study provides comprehensive insights into the structure, function, and salt-related species of soil microorganisms in saline-alkali soil and their associations with salt tolerance and soybean phenotype. The identification of key microbial species and functional categories offers valuable information for understanding the mechanisms underlying plant-microbe interactions in challenging soil conditions.

Talaromyces purpurogenus Isolated from Rhizosphere Soil of Maize Has Efficient Organic Phosphate-Mineralizing and Plant Growth-Promoting Abilities

The scarcity of phosphorus (P) makes improving phosphorus use efficiency a critical issue in crop production. Plant rhizosphere microorganisms play a vital role in increasing phosphorus bioavailability and promoting the level of plant-absorbable P in agroecosystems. In this study, Talaromyces purpurogenus SW-10 strain with efficient organic phosphate-mineralizing ability was isolated from maize rhizosphere soil. SW-10 showed efficient phytate utilization with corresponding soluble P levels of 525.43 mg/L and produced phytase in the liquid medium. The response surface methodology (RSM) analysis showed that glucose as the carbon source and (NH4)2SO4 as the nitrogen source at 28 °C and pH 7.0 promoted higher mineralization of insoluble organic phosphate. When cocultivated with different genotypes of maize seedlings, SW-10 significantly increased the shoot’s dry weight by 37.93%, root’s dry weight by 31.25%, and the plant height by 13.03% for low-P sensitive inbred line 31778, while no significant change was observed in the low-P tolerance inbred line CCM454. In addition, SW-10 strain significantly increased total P-concentration in the shoots (22.4%~32.9%) and roots (3.10%~9.77%) for both inbred lines. In conclusion, the isolated T. purpurogenus SW-10 strain possesses an efficient organic phosphate-mineralizing ability and maize plant growth-promoting effect, especially for the low-P sensitive genotype that could be exploited for enhancing P availability in agriculture.

Community differentiation of rhizosphere microorganisms and their responses to environmental factors at different development stages of medicinal plant Glehnia littoralis.

Rhizosphere microorganisms play a key role in affecting plant quality and productivity through its interaction with plant root system. To figure out the bottleneck of the decline of yield and quality in the traditional Chinese medicinal herbs Glehnia littoralis they now encounter, it is important to study the dynamics of rhizosphere microbiota during the cultivation of G. littoralis. In the present study, the composition, diversity and function of rhizosphere microbes at different development stages of G. littoralis, as well as the correlation between rhizosphere microbes and environmental factors were systematically studied by high-throughput sequencing. There were significant differences between the rhizosphere microbes at early and middle-late development stages. More beneficial bacteria, such as Proteobacteria, and more symbiotic and saprophytic fungi were observed at the middle-late development stage of G. littoralis, while beneficial bacteria such as Actinobacteria and polytrophic transitional fungi were abundant at all development stages. The results of redundancy analysis show that eight environmental factors drive the changes of microflora at different development stages. pH, soil organic matter (SOM) and available phosphorus (AP) had important positive effects on the bacterial and fungal communities at the early development stage; saccharase (SC) and nitrate nitrogen (NN) showed significant positive effects on the bacterial and fungal communities at the middle and late stages; while urease (UE), available potassium (AK), and alkaline phosphatase (AKP) have different effects on bacterial and fungal communities at different development stages. Random forest analysis identified 47 bacterial markers and 22 fungal markers that could be used to distinguish G. littoralis at different development stages. Network analysis showed that the rhizosphere microbes formed a complex mutualistic symbiosis network, which is beneficial to the growth and development of G. littoralis. These results suggest that host development stage and environmental factors have profound influence on the composition, diversity, community structure and function of plant rhizosphere microorganisms. This study provides a reference for optimizing the cultivation of G. littoralis.

Advances in studies on the plant rhizosphere microorganisms in wetlands: A visualization analysis based on CiteSpace

Rhizosphere microorganisms and their interactions with plants in wetlands have recently attracted much attention due to their importance in enhancing plant environmental adaptation, removing wetland pollutants, and alleviating climate change. However, the fluctuating hydrological environment of wetlands leads to more complex dynamics in the rhizosphere environment. Research progress and hotspots concerning plant-rhizosphere microorganisms under special wetland environments are still kept unclear. To better understand the current research status, hotspots and trends of rhizosphere microorganisms in wetlands, we used CiteSpace bibliometric software to visualize and analyze 231 English-language publications from the Web of Science core collection database. Here, we reviewed the role played by various countries, institutions, and scholars in the studies of plant rhizosphere microorganisms in wetlands based on cooperation network analysis. We discussed the shift from bioremediation and nutrient removal to rhizosphere microbial community composition as a research hotspot for plant rhizosphere microorganisms in wetlands according to keyword co-occurrence and clustering analysis. Finally, we highlighted that more attention should be paid to the ecological functions of rhizosphere microorganisms in different wetland ecosystems, and the plant‒microbe microinterface processes and interaction patterns should be explored in depth to provide new indicators for the evaluation of wetland ecosystem functions.

Mechanisms underlying the succession of plant rhizosphere microbial community structure and function in an alpine open-pit coal mining disturbance zone

Elucidating the responses and potential functions of soil microbial communities during succession is important for understanding biogeochemical processes and the sustainable development of plant communities after environmental disturbances. However, studies of such dynamics during post-mining ecological restoration in alpine areas remain poorly understood. Microbial diversity, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycle functional gene potential in the Heishan mining area of Northwest China was studied, including primitive succession, secondary succession, and artificial succession disturbed by mining. The results revealed that: (1) The dominant bacteria in both categories (non-remediated and ecologically restored) of mining area rhizosphere soil were Proteobacteria, adopting the r strategy, whereas in naturally occurring soil outside the mining area, the dominant bacteria were actinomycetes and Acidobacteria, adopting the k strategy. Notably, mining perturbation significantly reduced the relative abundance of archaea. (2) After restoration, more bacterial network node connections were observed in mining areas than were originally present, whereas the archaeal network showed the opposite trend. (3) The networks of microbial genes related to nitrogen and phosphorus cycle potential differed significantly, depending on the succession type. Namely, prior to restoration, there were more phosphorus related functional gene network connections; these were also more strongly correlated, and the network was more aggregated. (4) Soil factors such as pH and NO3–N affected both the mining area remediation soil and the soil outside the mining area, but did not affect the soil of the original vegetation in the mining area. The changes in the structure and function of plant rhizosphere microorganisms after mining disturbance can provide a theoretical basis for the natural restoration of mining areas.

Rhizosphere Microbial Communities and Geochemical Constraining Mechanism of Antimony Mine Waste-Adapted Plants in Southwestern China.

Antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As) are two hazardous metalloid elements, and the biogeochemical cycle of Sb and As can be better understood by studying plant rhizosphere microorganisms associated with Sb mine waste. In the current study, samples of three types of mine waste—Sb mine tailing, waste rocks, and smelting slag—and associated rhizosphere microorganisms of adapted plants were collected from Qinglong Sb mine, southwest China. 16S rRNA was sequenced and used to study the composition of the mine waste microbial community. The most abundant phylum in all samples was Proteobacteria, followed by Bacteroidota, Acidobacteriota, and Actinobacteriota. The community composition varied among different mine waste types. Gammaproteobacteria was the most abundant microorganism in tailings, Actinobacteria was mainly distributed in waste rock, and Saccharimonadia, Acidobacteriae, and Ktedonobacteria were mainly present in slag. At the family level, the vast majority of Hydrogenophilaceae were found in tailings, Ktedonobacteraceae, Chthoniobacteraceae, and Acidobacteriaceae (Subgroup 1) were mostly found in slag, and Pseudomonadaceae and Micrococcaceae were mainly found in waste rock. Actinobacteriota and Arthrobacter are important taxa for reducing heavy metal(loid) mobility, vegetation restoration, and self-sustaining ecosystem construction on antimony mine waste. The high concentrations of Sb and As reduce microbial diversity.

Root exuded low-molecular-weight organic acids affected the phenanthrene degrader differently: A multi-omics study

As a class of highly toxic and persistent organic pollutants, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are an increasingly urgent environmental problem. Low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) are important factors that regulate the degradation of PAHs by plant rhizosphere microorganisms, which affect the absorption of PAHs by plant roots. However, the comprehensive mechanisms by which LMWOAs influence the biodegradation of PAHs at cellular and omics levels are still unknown. Here, we systematically analyzed the roles of citric, glutaric and oxalic acid in the PAH-degradation process, and investigated the mechanisms through which these three LMWOAs enhance phenanthrene (PHE) biodegradation by B. subtilis ZL09–26. The results showed that LMWOAs can improve the solubility and biodegradation of PHE, enhance cell growth and activity, and relieve membrane and oxidative stress. Citric acid enhanced PHE biodegradation mainly by improving the strain’s cell proliferation and activity, while glutaric and oxalic acid accelerated PHE biodegradation mainly by improving the expression of enzymes and providing energy for the cells of B. subtilis ZL09–26. This study provides new insights into rhizospheric bioremediation mechanisms, which may enable the development of new biostimulation techniques to improve the bioremediation of PAHs.

The promotion effects of silicate mineral maifanite on the growth of submerged macrophytes Hydrilla verticillata

The effects of maifanite on the physiological and phytochemical process of submerged macrophytes Hydrilla verticillate (H.verticillata) were investigated for the first time in the study. The growth index: plant biomass, root length, plant height and leaf spacing, and physiological and phytochemical indexes: chlorophyll, soluble protein, malondialdehyde (MDA), peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD) content and vitality of the roots of H.verticillata were tested. The results found that maifanite can significantly promote the growth of H.verticillata. The modified maifanite were more conducive to plant growth compared with the raw maifanite, and the MM1 group had the best growth promoting effect. The physiological and phytochemical indexes showed that maifanite can delay the aging process of H.verticillata (P < 0.05). The possible reasons for promoting H.verticillata growth were that maifanite can provide excellent propagation conditions for plant rhizosphere microorganisms, contains abundant major and microelements, and improve the sediment microenvironment. This study may provide a technique for the further application of maifanite in the field of ecological restoration.

Role of rhizospheric microorganisms in mitigating the adverse effect of salinity stress in Plantago ovata growth, biochemical and photosynthetic traits

ABSTRACT This pot experiment was carried out to investigate the efficiency of plant rhizospheric microorganisms (PRMs) to counteract salinity stress in Plantago ovata. The treatments included soil salinity (2.5 (as control), 5 and 10 dS m−1), arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Control, Glomus mosseae, Rhizophagus intraradices and Funneliformis mosseae) and phosphate solubilizing bacteria (Control and Pseudomonas fluorescens). The highest amount of growth and yield parameters, relative water content (RWC), potassium (K+) and phosphorus (P) concentration, photosynthetic traits (chlorophyll a and b, carotenoid, maximal efficiency of PSII (fv/fm), variable fluorescence to initial fluorescence (fv/f0) and stomatal conductance (gs)), antioxidant enzymes and the lowest sodium (Na+) concentration, malondialdehyde (MDA) and electrolyte leakage were observed in the plants treated with mixture of Rhizophagus intraradices and Pseudomonas fluorescens under all salinity levels. Although all previously mentioned traits significantly and severely decreased under salinity stress, mucilage percentage, electrolyte leakage and Na+ concentration were increased under salinity levels. In conclusion, the results suggested that inoculation of AMF (particularly Rhizophagus intraradices) in combination with Pseudomonas fluorescens by the accumulation of proline along with decreased electrolyte leakage, maintenance of relative water content in leaves and selective uptake of K+ ions could overcome detrimental effects of salinity stress in isabgol. Responses of Vitis vinifera cv. Cabernet Sauvignon roots to the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Funneliformis mosseae and the plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium Ensifer meliloti include changes in volatile organic compounds.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are beneficial microorganisms that may associate with grapevine roots, improving stress tolerance, growth, and nutrition. AM fungi and PGPR enhance the production of plant secondary metabolites, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that play a key role in the interaction of plants with the environment and are involved in defence mechanisms. The aim of this study was to analyse the effects of an AM fungus and a rhizobacterium on plant growth and VOCs in Vitis vinifera cv. Cabernet Sauvignon roots to gain insight into the potential role of plant-rhizosphere microorganisms in vine growth and defence. Grapevines were inoculated or not with the AM fungus Funneliformis mosseae IN101 and/or the plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium Ensifer meliloti TSA41. Both microbial strains enhanced plant growth. Fifty-eight VOCs extracted from ground roots were identified using headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled to gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. VOCs were induced by F. mosseae IN101, increasing up to 87% compared with control plants. Monoterpenes were strongly enhanced by F. mosseae IN101, increasing up to 113% compared with control plants. Interestingly, monoterpene alcohols related to plant defence, such as myrtenol, p-cymen-7-ol, and p-mentha-1.8-dien-7-ol were increased. By contrast, E. meliloti TSA41 did not significantly affect VOCs. The knowledge of the effects of AM fungi and PGPR on grapevine VOCs may contribute to an integrated and sustainable management of vineyards.

Crop monocropping usually results in an enrichment of soil-borne pathogens in soil. Crop rotation is an environmentally friendly method for controlling soil-borne diseases. Plant rhizosphere microorganisms, especially plant-beneficial microorganisms, play a major role in protecting plants from pathogens, but responses of these microorganisms to crop rotation remain unclear. Here, we evaluated the effects of rotations with Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) and wild rocket (Diplotaxis tenuifolia (L.) DC.) on cucumber Fusarium wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cucumerinum (FOC). Cucumber rhizosphere bacterial community composition was analyzed by high-throughput amplicon sequencing. Bacteria, Pseudomonas spp., 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (an antifungal secondary metabolite) producer and FOC abundances were estimated by real-time PCR. Rotations with Indian mustard and wild rocket suppressed cucumber Fusarium wilt disease and cucumber rhizosphere FOC abundance. Crop rotations increased cucumber rhizosphere bacteria, Pseudomonas spp. and 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol producer abundances. Moreover, crop rotations changed cucumber rhizosphere bacterial community composition and increased bacterial community diversity. However, crop rotations decreased soil inorganic nitrogen content and inhibited cucumber seedling growth. Overall, rotations with Indian mustard and wild rocket suppressed cucumber Fusarium wilt disease, which might be linked to the increased rhizosphere bacterial diversity and abundances of potential plant-beneficial microorganisms (such as Pseudomonas spp. and 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol producer).

Can soil microbial diversity influence plant metabolites and life history traits of a rhizophagous insect? A demonstration in oilseed rape.

Interactions between plants and phytophagous insects play an important part in shaping the biochemical composition of plants. Reciprocally plant metabolites can influence major life history traits in these insects and largely contribute to their fitness. Plant rhizospheric microorganisms are an important biotic factor modulating plant metabolites and adaptation to stress. While plant-insects or plant-microorganisms interactions and their consequences on the plant metabolite signature are well-documented, the impact of soil microbial communities on plant defenses against phytophagous insects remains poorly known. In this study, we used oilseed rape (Brassica napus) and the cabbage root fly (Delia radicum) as biological models to tackle this question. Even though D. radicum is a belowground herbivore as a larva, its adult life history traits depend on aboveground signals. We therefore tested whether soil microbial diversity influenced emergence rate and fitness but also fly oviposition behavior, and tried to link possible effects to modifications in leaf and root metabolites. Through a removal-recolonization experiment, 3 soil microbial modalities ("high," "medium," "low") were established and assessed through amplicon sequencing of 16S and 18S ribosomal RNA genes. The "medium" modality in the rhizosphere significantly improved insect development traits. Plant-microorganism interactions were marginally associated to modulations of root metabolites profiles, which could partly explain these results. We highlighted the potential role of plant-microbial interaction in plant defenses against Delia radicum. Rhizospheric microbial communities must be taken into account when analyzing plant defenses against herbivores, being either below or aboveground.

Biodiversity of the phosphate solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs) population from the rice rhizosphere soils of the two agro-ecological zones of Cameroon

The plant rhizosphere microorganisms having the phosphate solubilizing capacity can convert the insoluble soil organic and inorganic phosphates into a soluble form and make the phosphorus (P) available to the plant. With the objective of evaluating the phosphate solubilizing microorganism populations under the rice rhizosphere, soils samples were collected in three locations of two agro ecological zones of Cameroon and analyzed for their PSMs diversity. Isolation of microorganisms was made on non selective nutrient agar plates and the phosphate solubilizing activity of isolates was tested on National Botanical Research Institute’s Phosphate growth medium (NBRIP) amended with sparingly soluble rock phosphates of different origins. The morphological description of isolates allowed evaluating the phosphate solubilizing microorganism’s diversity under the rice rhizospheric soil. The most probable number of PSMs ranged between 22 and 53% with an average of 48%, 52.80% and 22.44% for Nkolbisson, Nyokon and Santchou respectively. The 65 isolates obtained from all locations were distributed in four diverse groups. The index of solubilization ranged between 2.70 and 7.24 depending on isolate. From a total of 65 isolates obtained from the three sampling sites, 46 were phosphate solubilizing isolates among which: 20 were of low solubilization, 16 of medium and 10 of high solubilization. This is the first work reporting phosphate solubilizing microorganisms on rice rhizosphere in Cameroon. However, the selection of phosphate solubilizing microorganisms as possible inoculation tools for phosphate-deficient soils should focus on the integral interpretation of laboratory assays, greenhouse experiments as well as field trials. © 2015 International Formulae Group. COMPARATIVE EFFECT OF ONE SYNTHETIC BIOSTIMULANTS AND MICROBIAL BIOSTIMULANT (Azospirillum lipoferum) ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF WASHINGTON NAVEL ORANGE FRUITS.

Foliar sprays with synthetic biostimulants or microbial biostimulants PGPR (plant growth promoting rhizobacteria) were used . They contain amino acids, macro and micro elements, humic acid and vitamins . Also its direct effect in release stimulants, nutrients, antibiotics, biosides and sidrofores or activation of these microorganisms in plant rhizosphere in activation and improving plant growth. This study was carried out during 2013 and 2014 seasons on 10 years old Washington navel orange (Citrus sinensis Osbeck) trees budded on sour orange (Citrus aurantium L.) rootstock, grown in a private orchard located at Motobus, Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, to study the effect of synthetic stimulants (Furdose) and microbial biostimulant (Azospirillum lipoferum )on fruit set, dropping, yield and fruit quality. Furdose as a commercial synthetic biostimulant and microbial biostimulant Azospirillum lipoferum were used as foliar application alone or in combination at two stages, before flowering(first mach) or after fruit set(first may) or before flowering and after fruit set. The obtained results revealed that, fruit set and drop percentages, yield and fruit quality were u significantly affected by Furdose and Azospirillum lipoferum treatments alone or in combination in both seasons . The data cleared that, both stimulators enhanced fruit set percentage, yield and fruit quality of Washington navel orange trees . Azospirillum lipoferum alone or combined with Furdose was more effective on improving the productivity and fruit quality .The T6 (foliar spray of A. lipoferum after fruit set), T7 ((foliar spray of A. lipoferum before flowering and after fruit set) and T10 (foliar spray of Furdose plus A. lipoferum before flowering and after fruit set) were the most effective treatments on yield and fruit quality. It increased fruit set, yield and fruit quality in terms of fruit number, fruit kg/tree, fruit firmness, soluble solids content, reducing and total sugars and vitamin C. Fruit drop was decreased without significant differences among them in both seasons. Thus spraying with Azospirillum lipoferum after fruit set T6 ( foliar spray of A. lipoferum after fruit set) ) gave 112.4 and 115.7 kg/tree compared with T7 (foliar spray with Azospirillum lipoferum before flowering and after fruit set) 108.7 and 121.4 kg/tree and T10 ((foliar spray the combination of them before flowering and after fruit set) 114.7 and 130.3 kg/tree during both seasons, respectively . The use of ( Azospirillum lipoferum ) is recommended for increasing fruit yield and quality such as firmness, SSC, V.C and total sugars which may be increase the fruit ability to handling stages and longest shelf life, and gave the highest of net return per feddan and the increase in net return over control. when used alone or with synthetic biostemulants ( Furdose) compared with the use of synthetic biostemulants ( Furdose) alone .

Rhizosphere bacterial community of Typha angustifolia L. and water quality in a river wetland supplied with reclaimed water.

Wetland plant rhizosphere microorganisms play a significant role in the purification of ecological restoration of reclaimed water replenishment wetlands. In this study, water quality discriminant analysis indicated the wetland had a distinctive role in the purification of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), and nitrate (NO3 (-)) from reclaimed water, of which removal rates were 42.15, 47.34, and 28.56 % respectively. All the sequences of 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene clone library were affiliated with Proteobacteria (74.50 %), Bacteroidetes (6.54 %), Gemmatimonadetes (5.88 %), Chloroflexi (4.25 %), Chlorobi (2.94 %), Nitrospira (2.61 %), Acidobacteria (2.29 %), and Actinobacteria (0.98 %). Assessment of water quality purification and rhizosphere bacterial properties revealed that the major biogeochemical reactions were nitrogen, phosphorus, carbon, and sulfur cycles (33.70, 15.40, 14.40, and 4.90 %, respectively). In addition, approximately 5.90 and 4.60 % of the clones are closely related with the minor biogeochemical degradations of antibiotics and halogenated hydrocarbons, which were the typical characteristics of reclaimed water wetland different from freshwater wetlands. The finding of water quality discriminant is consistent with that of bacterial community, but the latter was a more powerful method than the former which reveals possible implications of wetland plant purification on the reclaimed water.

The role of rice straw-based hydrogels on some soil microorganisms strains

Due to the shortage in natural conditioners for sandy and sandy calcareous soils, i.e., clays, manures and composts, considerable attention has been paid to use synthesized hydrophilic formulations (hydrogels). For economic and environmental purposes, the present work deals on using rice straw waste (RS) as a substrate for preparation of low cost hydrogels. Four formulations of RS-based hydrogels (G1-G4) were prepared, and applied to desert soil. Their effect on some of the beneficent micro-organisms in plant rhizosphere was evaluated. These microorganisms are: five sps. of Rizobia liguminsorum, Azotobacter chroococcum, Azospirillum Lipoferium), Bacillus supllis ,phosphate dissolving bacteria (Bacellus megatherium), Actinomycetes(Crepresented by streptomyces aureofaciens.) as well as fungi (Aspergillu niger). The results obtained indicate that, the investigated hydrogels have stimulating effect on the studied microorganisms. The hydrogels prepared from using H2O2/ferrous ammonium sulfate as grafting initiation system and neutralizing the final hydrogels by nitric acid provide higher efficiency than hydrogels from grafting by persulfate/persulfite initiation system with the same neutralizing agent. Pre-cyanoethylating the RS promote the efficiency of hydrogel produced from persulfate/persulfite initiation grafting process and the acetic acid to neutralize the final product. This behavior was evaluated through determining the studied microorganisms counts besides dehydrogenase and phosphatase activities in the rhizosphere of 60 days old wheat plants grown in a sandy calcareous soil conditioned with the recom-mended rates of such products, i.e., 0.25-0.5 % on dry soil weight basis. Due to the adverse effect of applying the higher rate of G, i.e., 0.5%, on the aeration of the rootzone, incorporating the lower one (0.25%) in the soil is preferred.

Influences of oyster shell soil conditioner on soil and plant rhizospheric microorganisms

Oyster shell soil conditioner had significant influence on soil and rhizospheric microorganisms in their biomass, respiratory intensity and nutritional requirement. It could stimulate growth of soil and rhizospheric microorganisms, especially nitrogen-fixers, and intensify soil respiration in proportion to the dose and fertilizing time of the conditioner, leading to the increase in the number of nitrogen fixing bacteria and the decrease in the number of bacteria with special nutrition demands.
