The following paper explicates the intricacies of corruption in the broadest manner possible. Wherein, every aspect has been touched upon and elucidated in the simplest manner. The authors have discussed the causes underlying corruption, its tenacious effects on the society, coupled with the scheme of preventive measures (both implemented and suggested ones), undertaken by the system. The following piece of work also highlights various scams that have taken place over the span of four decades, in order to averse the readers, with the better understanding of the present Indian corruption scenario. The object of the authors, via, this research is to loath upon its readers that, power-lust is a weed that grows in the vacant slots of an abandoned mind. Corruption in India is a consequence of the nexus between politics, bureaucracy and criminals. 'Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely'. The various scams illustrated in this paper depict that, 'everything can be acquired at the right price'. There has been a negative metamorphosis, witnessed in India. Earlier an individual had to bribe to get an illegal act done, but today the system is so corrupt that bribe is a mandatory payment rendered to the system, even to get back one's own dues. Though the focal point of this article is to highlight the emergence and existence of corruption in India, and discuss the strategy mechanisms to curtail it, the authors have gone ahead to explain 'UNCAC', which is a anti-corruption strategy devised by the UN, but still not adopted completely by India. Thus, this was one of the suggested strategy propagated by the authors.The pivotal objective of the authors, via this research was to, vandalize the hollow image replicating the theories propagating that it's a trustworthy government that creates social trust. This is a mere farce. We have also included various efforts put in by the hand-fulls(Anna Hazare, Jaago Re, Arundhati Roy, etc) amidst us, who have taken up the responsibility upon themselves to combat corruption, challenge those in power, and fight for the right of which each of us are being deprived of. Thus, via this paper we urge every fellow citizen to take up the initiative and perform the clean-up task.
