AbstractFenestrations of the capillary endothelium have been observed in the lamina propria of the guinea pig tongue. They measure about 600 Å in diameter and are closed by a diaphragm. The diaphragm is thinner and less electron‐dense than the endothelial cell plasma membrane, and occasionally displays a central thickening, “knob” or “a dense ring‐like structure.” Similar fenestrations are sometimes observed in the walls of endothelial vesicles as well.
