The Effectiveness of Using Picture Series on Students’ English Writing Skills of Procedure Texts at SMA Masehi Sebiru Biru in Academic Year


 This research deals the effect of picture series on students in writing procedure text. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the use of picture series on students' English procedural text writing skills. This research was conducted with experimental research used in two groups. the experimental group used media in the form of picture series and control without using picture series. The subjects of this study were students of SMA Masehi Sebiru Biru class XI MIA 1 who would be the experimental group and XI IIS which would be the control group, where class XI MIA 1 consisted of 29 students and XI IIS consisted of 24 students. This study used a written test to obtain data. After analyzing the data, the average value of the two groups was obtained where the experimental group got an average score of 85 and the control group 79.1. Based on the calculation results show that using the media in the form of picture series is higher than without using picture series. Picture series is effectively used in students writing procedure text.

Pengaruh Penggunaan Metode Fonik Berbantuan Flash Card Terhadap Perkembangan Bahasa Anak Dan Kemampuan Membaca Awal Anak TK (The Effect of Using Flash Card Assisted Phonics Methods on Children's Language Development and Early Reading Ability in Kindergar

The purpose of this study was to find out whether using the Flashcard Assisted Phonics Method could improve children's language development and early reading skills. Variable X (Flashcard Assisted Phonics Method) 9 indicators: 1) sound letters, 2) search for sound letters in words, 3) search for sounds in objects, 4) find sounds in cards, 5) feel letters, 6) search for letters in text, 7) looking for letter equivalents, 8) connecting vowel sounds, 9) forming words. Y1 (child language development) 7 indicators: 1) speak fluently, 2) tell stories, 3) name objects, 4) sort the picture series, 5) tell the pictures they made, 6) follow 1-2 commands, 7) make words. Variable Y2 (initial reading ability) 4 indicators: 1) pronunciation and intonation of sentences, 2) letters that are widely used in words, 3) meaningful new words, 4) familiar and new pronunciation, intonation. Research design: causal quantitative, determination of research area: purposive sampling area, determination of respondents: population research area. Data collection: 1). observation, 2). interview, 3). document. Data analysis 1) Instrument test, 2) Classical assumption test, 3) hypothesis test. Results of t-test the effect of Flashcard Assisted Phonics Method on children's language development (11.829> 2.04841), t test of the effect of Flashcard Assisted Phonics Method on early reading ability (6.667> 2.04841), the results of the F test of the effect of the Flashcard Assisted Phonics Method on children's language development and early reading skills together (83.205> 3.34). So it can be concluded that the Flashcard Assisted Phonics Method has an effect on children's language development and early reading ability and H0 is rejected

Pengembangan Modul Pembelajaran Menulis Teks Cerpen Berbantuan Gambar Berseri untuk Meningkatkan HOTS Siswa Kelas XI SMK YASPI Labuhan Deli

This study aimed to develop and assess the feasibility of a learning module for short story writing using picture series media to enhance higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in Class XI of SMK Yaspi Labuhan Deli. The research and development approach was employed, following the 4-D development model by Thiagarajan (1974): definition, design, development, and deployment. The population consisted of 193 students, with a sample size of 30 students. The results demonstrated that the developed learning module met the criteria effectively. The assessment of validity by material experts yielded a percentage value of 78% (good category), and by design experts, it was 95% (very good category). Teachers' assessment of feasibility resulted in 80% (good category), and students' limited trial received 88% (very good category). In conclusion, the learning module for short story writing with picture series media is valid and suitable for implementation as a teaching resource to enhance HOTS in Class XI of SMK Yaspi Labuhan Deli.

Multi-view expressive graph neural networks for 3D CAD model classification

The creation of effective content-based retrieval systems for the 3D models of engineering components created by Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD) systems has been a subject of academic investigation since the 1990 s. Recently some of the most promising results have been reported by researchers using Deep Neural Nets (DNN) to classify industrial parts represented by collections of images generated from different viewpoints. Known as Multi-View Convolutional Neural Network (MVCNN) these systems have extended the architectures developed for 2D images analysis to handle 3D data by using a series of pictures rendered from different viewpoints. In 2016 Monti et al. used Graph Neural Networks (GNN) to classify the superpixel images for the first time and reported results which suggested that the approach could produce good classification accuracy (an observation confirmed by the application of GNNs to 2D image datasets of common objects such as MNIST and Cifar). To investigate the potential for GNNs to reason about spatial adjacency relationships this paper reports, for the first time, the application of GNNs to classifications of 3D MCAD models of mechanical components. Viewing GNN as a convolution operator, parallel GNN can be applied to multiple views of a 3D shape in the same way as CNN is structured in a MVCNN. After outlining the architecture implemented to support MVGNNs the impact of various hyperparameters on the expressive power are explored. When optimised these hyperparameters (located in both intra-layer and inter-layer structures) combined with the multi-view architecture produced a classification accuracy superior to previous methods. The results also suggest that GNNs have the potential to produce fast, accurate classification systems for 3D MCAD data using significantly smaller datasets than those used for transfer learning in MVCNNs.

Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Write Around Berbantuan Media Gambar Seri terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Cerita Dongeng

The background of this research is the low skill of writing fairy tales by students which is indicated by the difficulty of students in finding and pouring ideas into written form. This study aims to determine: 1) students' fairy tales writing skill before applying the write around learning model assisted by picture series media; 2) students' fairy tales writing skill after applying the write around learning model assisted by picture series media; 3) the effect of the write around learning model assisted by picture series media on students' fairy tales writing skill. The type of research used is pre-experimental research type one group pretest-posttest. The sample of this research was class 4 in one of the elementary schools in Bandung, totaling 13 students. Based on the results of the study, the following conclusions were obtained: 1) the average value of the pretest results for students' fairy tales writing skill before applying the write around learning model assisted by picture series media was in the sufficient category; 2) the average value of the posttest results of students' fairy tales writing skill after applying the write around learning model assisted by picture series media is in the good category; 3) there is an effect of the write around learning model assisted by picture series media on students' fairy tales writing skill.

The Effectiveness of Picture Series in Improving Students’ Writing Skill at Mega Buana University

This research has two variables, namely the students’ writing skill as independent variable and picture series as dependent variable. The aim of the research is to find out the effectiveness of picture series in improving students’ writing skill at Mega Buana University. The research applied Pre-Experimental method, where the students were given both pre test and post test. The population of this research is the Fourth Semester Students of Midwifery Study Program at Mega Buana University with the total of population are 42 students. The researcher chose 15 students as sample. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique. The result of this research showed the probability was 0.000 < 0.05. Based on this fact can be showed that H0 was rejected. Therefore there was different mean score of pre test and post test in this class. By looking at this result, can be understood that picture series was effective to improve students’ writing skill.

The Effect of Picture Series in Writing Narrative Text on Students’ Writing Ability at the 10th Grade of Mazro’atul Lughoh Islamic Boarding School Pare Kediri

This study was pre-experimental research design with one experimental group only. The target population of this study was all the tenth grade students of Mazro’atul Lughoh Islamic Boarding School Pare in the period of 2021/2022. The researcher took 26 students as the sample of the study, by using saturated sampling, because the population is relatively small. To collect data, the researcher used written pre-test and post-test in essay format, and the written assessment by Anderson. In analyzing the data, the researcher used IBM SPSS statistic versions. 20 application of paired sample t.test to know the difference between pre-test (before treatment) and post-test (after treatment). After collecting and calculating the data, the researcher found that mean score and the standard deviation of pre-test were 7.46 and 1.838, while the mean score of post-test was 16.15 and standard deviation was 2.781. In testing hypothesis, the researcher used t-test formula. The researcher found that t value was -16.183, Sig (2-tailed) = 0.00 < 0.05, at the level significance of df = 25. So, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis could be accepted. It means that there was a significant difference between before and after given the treatment

PENINGKATAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS KARANGAN MELALUI MEDIA GAMBAR SERI PADA SISWA KELAS IV SD TAHUN AJARAN 2022/2023

Essay writing skills, especially descriptive text essays, are still relatively low for grade IV students at SD. This problem requires a solution so that students' essay writing skills will increase. The purpose of this study is to determine the planning, implementation, and improvement of essay writing skills through the use of picture series media. The subjects of this study were 24 grade IV students at SD. The study used a class action research design by Kemmis and Mc Taggart. Data was collected through tests, observations, and documentation and then analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The results showed that students' ability to write essays, especially descriptive texts, increased by using picture series. After learning using picture series students can describe objects completely and clearly then in writing descriptive text students can also write them using good grammar and use correct punctuation and spelling. From the results of the assessment it was found that in the pre-cycle the average value obtained was 67.26 and was included in the criteria of being quite capable. Then in cycle I there was an increase of 11.31 so that the average value obtained was 78.57 and included in the capable criterion. In cycle II it increased again by 11.01 so that in cycle II the average value obtained was 89.58 and it was included in the very capable criteria.

The Effect of Digital Picture Series Media on Simple Essay Writing Skills in Elementary Schools

This study aims to determine the effect of digital series picture media on simple essay writing skills in the Indonesian language subject for third-grade students at SDN Tawangrejo II Pandaan, classified as low. The research method used in this study is quantitative with a pre-experimental design, specifically the one-group Pre-Test-Post-Test design. The subjects of this study were 32 third-grade students. The sampling technique used in this study was saturated sampling. The data collection technique used in this study was a test to measure third-grade students' simple essay writing skills. The test was conducted with a Pre-Test and a Post-Test. The test consisted of writing a simple essay based on five indicators. The data analysis technique differed significantly between the Pre-Test and Post-Test results. This was indicated by the hypothesis test using the paired sample t-test with a significance value of 0.000, which means the sig value < 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The use of digital series picture media significantly affects simple essay writing skills.

Applying Picture Series to Promote Students’ Writing Achievement on Recount Text

This research was conducted to find out the improvement of students’ writing skill on recount text by using picture series and to know the process of implementation of picture series in teaching writing on recount text to the tenth-grade students of SMA Gajah Mada Bandar Lampung. The subjects of this research were 30 students of X IPA 1 at SMA Gajah Mada Bandar Lampung. This research was used classroom action research. Furthermore, the data collected through qualitative and quantitative data. The researcher used interviews, and observation checklist in collected the qualitative data and used tests in collected the quantitative data. The research findings reveal that the using picture series to improve students’ writing skills, particularly recount text, was beneficial. Students’ writing scores also demonstrated an improvement in their writing abilities. The increasing mean score from pre-test until post-test 2 is 12.96. The students’ attitudes towards studying English are also improving, as indicated by their increased participation in class. It can be concluded that, by using picture series media, the students’ writing skill is improved.

THE USE OF STORYTELLING ASSISTED WITH PICTURE SERIES TO IMPROVE SPEAKING SKILL

This study used classroom action research design which was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of two sessions. The subject was class IX F of SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar which consisted of 38 students. In this present study, the research instruments used were tests (pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2) and questionnaire. The result of the pre-test showed that the students' ability in speaking was still low. They still had problems with vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, comprehension, and fluency. To solve that problem, the researcher used storytelling technique assisted with picture series that was carried out in two cycles. Based on the data of pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2 which were respectively 60.52, 70.13, and 80.52, it showed that there were improvements in speaking when they retold the narrative story. In addition, the questionnaire data showed that there were positive responses towards the implementation of storytelling technique in improving the subjects’ speaking skill. In conclusion, this study research proved that speaking skill of the ninth-grade students of SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved through storytelling technique assisted with picture series.

The Implementation of Picture Series as Learning Media to Improve Students' Writing Ability Related to Historical Events in Recount Text

The objectives of this research are: (1) to find out the class situation during the implementation of picture series in teaching writing, and (2) to determine the improvement of students' ability to write recount text using picture series. The research used a qualitative. The classroom action research design used in this research consisted of two cycles. The data were collected from observation, field notes, and interviews. The research participants are 34 students in the tenth grade of SMA YKM Tanjungsari. The results showed that picture series could improve students’ ability to write recount text, create a fun learning atmosphere, and increase students’ writing interest. In the first cycle, the percentage of learning activities was 18%; in the second cycle, 80% of students got excellent categories. The two cycles could effectively improve students' writing ability in recounting text. The students could develop their ideas to make a story and were active and enthusiastic in the teaching-learning process. It demonstrates that writing a recount text using picture series as learning media for X MIPA 1 student at SMA YKM Tanjungsari has been improved.

Lessons in Indonesian continue to be given at every level of education, starting from elementary education to tertiary institutions with the aim of improving students' ability to communicate orally and in writing using Indonesian. However, there is a problem. This research was conducted because of the low interest and learning skills of students in learning Indonesian in class II MI Miftahul Huda Jrebeng Kidul Wonoasih. This is due to the incompatibility of the learning methods and media used in the discussion of understanding the contents of the text. For this reason, the researcher is interested in correcting this problem by utilizing the discussion method and picture series media. This research was carried out using the PTK method and the data analysis was descriptive qualitative by describing the research strategy realistically based on the data obtained. The results obtained after the research showed an increase in the average interest with an average pre-cycle of 38, an average of 47 in the first cycle and an average of 79 in the second cycle. cycle I and 80 in cycle II.

The Effect of Picture Media on Mastery of Vocabulary At Grade VII Student

Picture Series is one of the media images that can be used to support and help vocabulary learning. Vocabulary is very important for everyone to learn especially a students, because if someone has mastery of vocabulary in English then when he/she uses English, he/she will have no difficulties. The aims of this study was to find out whether picture series had a good impact on improving and developing students' mastery of vocabulary or not. In this study, researchers used a quantitative experimental method. Based on the results of the research conducted by the researcher, it was found that picture series had a significant impact on students' mastery of vocabulary.

Improving Students Writing Skills by Using Picture Series on Descrptive Text

The purpose of the research is to provide students with a method to treat and facilitate the process of learning to write descriptive passages, thereby improving students' English writing skills using the Picture Series. Participants are 8th grade students of Pematangsiantar College 1 academic year 2022/2023 with 32 students. The study used CAR with two cycles to observe student activities and reactions in the classroom. The results of the study can be seen in the improvement of scores from pre-test to post-test 2 with a minimum score of 75 and a maximum score of 85 in post-test 2.

An Analysis of Prominent Cultural Values in Indonesian Folktale Tourism Spots through Instagram Caption

This paper deals with the phenomenon of famous tourism spot in Indonesia which were empowered by folktale through Instagram, such as: Malin Kundang, Sangkuriang, Roro Jonggrang/Prambanan, Danau Toba, and many more. There were some research addressed the tourism spots, nevertheless there’s lack of research on cultural values of folktales in relation to tourism spots in Indonesia and how its aspects deals with its popularity and its marketing. With the development of social media, e.g. Instagram, it brings culture of tourism spot and literature works together and then uploaded it through series of pictures, captions, and stories. This research aimed to analyse the cultural prominent values of the famous tourism folktale spot in Indonesia and employed qualitative method through content analysis studies. The identification towards the Instagram captions on this research were categorized through cultural aspects based on “Four senses of Culture” by Adaskou, Britten, and Fahsi. Based on the cultural sense proposed, it is found 71.42% aesthetic culture sense, 42.85% sociological culture sense, 28.57% semantic culture sense, and last 14.28% pragmatic culture sense. From these findings it can be concluded that for the Instagram and folklore related content itself, photos alone weren’t enough. Good caption cultural values wise added with appropriate hashtag is the proper way. Eventually, though Pandemic hits many aspect of life including tourism, prominent cultural values in Indonesian folktale tourism spot can be preserved.

Detailed visualization of settlement and early development in Leptastrea purpurea reveals distinct bio-optical features

Sexually produced juvenile scleractinian corals play a key role in the adaptation process of coral reefs, as they are considered to possess an innate plasticity and thus can adjust to changing environmental parameters within a certain range. In this study we investigated in detail the early life stages of the brooding species Leptastrea purpurea to identify, categorize and visualize the critical steps of the complex transformation process from a swimming coral larva to a sessile coral recruit and later to a coral colony. For that, we performed settlement experiments using previously known cues: cycloprodigiosin (CYPRO) and crustose coralline algae (CCA) as well as novel cues: crude extracts of Pseudoalteromonas espejiana and P. piscicida to identify a general, cue-independent settlement pathway. We monitored the development of L. purpurea over 12 months using bright field and fluorescence microscopy. Also we identified the fluorescence signals of L. purpurea with confocal microscopy at four crucial development steps: (A) swimming larva, (B) metamorphosing larva, (C) coral recruit and (D) adult coral. Our methodological approach allowed us to observe an ontogenetic shift of fluorescence signals which provokes the hypothesis that certain fluorescence patterns might be connected to distinct sequential functions in the early life cycle of scleractinian corals. Our observations showed great similarities to the early development of other brooding and spawning corals, making L. purpurea a prospective candidate to be used as a model organism for coral research. Furthermore, our in-depth picture series provides a robust monitoring reference for coral nurseries or field applications and demonstrates the potential of fluorescence as an indicator to instantly determine the growth stage of a developing coral recruit.

The Influence Of Picture Series In Teaching Speaking Recount Text

This research is a research to test whether the use of picture series media is influence in teaching writing. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a significant difference in the writing ability of students who were taught using the picture series. The population of this research is the eighth grade students of MTs Nurul Qur'an Jogoroto in the academic year 2022/2023. The total population is 215 students divided into six classes, each class contains between 35-38 students. The sample in this study was class VIII 5 and VIII 6 MTs Nurul Quran Jogoroto, totaling 70 students. The researcher used Quasi Experimental Class method to obtain score data. The researcher conducted a normality test to find out whether the data was normal or not. Based on the data normality test that has been carried out by the researcher, it shows that sig. 2-tailed is 0.000 meaning that data is normally distributed. Then, it will be continued with a mann whitney test. Based on the testing the hypothesis terms, if score of t is sig. < 0.05, Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. In the mann whitney test calculation, the data shows sig.(2-tailed) 0.000. The data lower than 0.5, it means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted.
