Survey Of Sports And Health Physical Education Facilities And Infrastructure

The purpose of this study was to determine the availability of sports and health education facilities and infrastructure at MTs. Miftahul Ulum Timbuan. This type of research is a survey with descriptive quantitative research methods, the population in this study is MTs. Miftahul Ulum Timbuan. Based on the data analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that there are inadequate facilities and infrastructure for sports and health education at MTs. Miftahul Ulum Timbuan, namely basketball equipment in very poor category with a percentage of 16.67%, and gymnastics equipment in the poor category. once with a percentage of 12.5%, while for adequate facilities, namely volleyball equipment in the medium category with a percentage of 50%, football equipment in the good category with a percentage of 66.67%, athletic equipment in the very good category with a percentage of 100%. For existing infrastructure at MTs. Miftahul Ulum Timbuan, there are volleyball courts, takraw courts, and table tennis courts.

114 Prime Time of Life: A multimodal physical activity and health education programme for middle-aged and older adults

Abstract Prime Time of Life is inclusive of people living with clinical conditions and differing fitness and functional abilities. Health screening was conducted preprogramme, and specific clinical exercise advice and support was provided to participants by Dr Diane Cooper, Clinical Exercise Physiologist. Participants completed two 60-minute multimodal (cardiovascular fitness, strength, balance, flexibility) exercise classes per week and were also encouraged to complete additional classes in their purpose built on-demand exercise library. In all 60-minute exercise classes the exercise instructor demonstrated three different options for each exercise to cater for participants who were working at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of fitness. Participants appreciated the adaptations and progressions that were available for all exercises as it enabled them to work to their ownability and progress and monitor progress throughout the programme. Each week a 20-minute health education workshop relevant to participants was delivered online via Zoom. The workshop was recorded, edited, and uploaded to YouTube to view on-demand. The link for each video was shared with participants weekly via email to support on-demand learning in addition to any other relevant supporting material such as a training diary. The Prime Time of Life programme increased participants upper and lower body strength, aerobic fitness and perceptions of physical and mental health (see chapter 3). This was in addition to increased confidence and feelings of positivity around the participants’ own management of healthy functional ageing (see chapter 3). Participants commented that they really enjoyed the Prime Time of Life programme. It increased their awareness on the importance of multimodal exercise for healthy ageing and that they felt empowered to continue training and improve their health in the long term. Following on from this successful programme a full train the trainer programme has been developed and piloted with 9 Local Sports Partnerships, 20 participants with further plans for upscaling.

Measure What Matters: Toward Multi-Sectoral Action to Improve Child and Youth Health and Well-being

Despite Canada’s strengths and widespread acknowledgment of the importance of children and youth, this country recently ranked 30th among 38 high-income countries on indicators of their well-being (UNICEF Innocenti 2020). While there are limited data readily available for monitoring within and across jurisdictions, Alberta compares worse than Canadian averages on indicators of early development vulnerability and child abuse (PHAC 2023a). The Alberta government convened a Child and Youth Well-being Review (GOA 2021) and Action Plan (GOA 2022a) to understand and address the pandemic’s adverse impacts. Indigenous and racialized children and youth, children in low-income families and children with disabilities were highlighted as being disproportionately impacted. In addition, the review found significant gaps in mental health, education, social data and evidence along with fragmentation of data within ministries and service systems (GOA 2021). Influences on child and youth health, well-being and health inequity have social, environmental and economic origins that extend beyond health policy boundaries (Lopez et al. 2021; Vargas-Barón, Diehl and Small 2022; Clark et al. 2020; Patton et al. 2016). Yet, public policy can be a powerful intermediary between children’s conditions and outcomes (UNICEF 2020). Cross-sectoral, whole-of-society approaches are required to improve child and youth health and well-being and government ministries have important roles to play (Akseer et al. 2020; De Montigny, Desjardins and Bouchard 2019; Leppo et al. 2013). Meaningful and accessible measurement and monitoring information is required to support co-ordinated, cross-sectoral decision-making and policy strategies to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities (OECD 2021). Information is required about child and youth material living standards, physical and mental health, social lives and learning and education (OECD 2021). While definitions of child and youth well-being vary depending on diverse perspectives and cultural, social and local contexts, many established indicators and frameworks can be tailored to local community needs and priorities (OECD 2021).

ANALISIS DAYA TAHAN AEROBIK (VO2MAX) MAHASISWA PENJASKESREK FKIP UNIVESITAS ABULYATAMA YANG MENGIKUTI MATAKULIAH ATLETIK

The purpose of this study was to analyze aerobic endurance (VO2Max) in Health and Recreation Physical Education students, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Abulyatama University who took the Athletics Course. This research is a type of descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The population and research sample totaled 35 Students of Physical Education, Health and Recreation, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Abulyatama University, Class of 2022. The data collection for this study was through a 15-minute running test and measurement. The results showed that the average analysis of aerobic endurance (VO2Max) of Physical Education Health and Recreation students, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Abulyatama University who took part in the Athletics Course was 33.79 (very poor category), with the following details: (1) as many as 2 students (5.71%) are in the medium category, (2) as many as 33 students (94.29%) were in the very poor category. The conclusion of this research is that the aerobic endurance (VO2Max) of Physical Education Health and Recreation students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Abulyatama University who take the Athletics Course is very poor

Secondary school students’ perception of health and teaching of health dimensions in physical education

ABSTRACT Background Physical education (PE) aims to promote health and strengthen students’ health resources, and the concept of health is a central part of PE. curricula. However, little is known about how students understand health and experience teaching related to the concept of health in PE. Purpose This study aims to provide insight into how students understand the concept of health and how they experience and perceive teaching about health dimensions in PE. Participants A sample of 10th graders was recruited from two primary schools in Norway. Data collection and analysis Three focus group interviews were conducted with 12 students (5 boys) in 10th grade (15-16 years old). The first focus group consisted of five girls, the second of four boys, and the third of two girls and one boy. The students were asked to reflect on and discuss what health is, how it can be promoted, and their experiences of learning and teaching health in PE. The interviews were recorded using a voice recorder and lasted for between 40 and 55 min. The transcripts were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Analysis Through the analysis, we interpreted that students mainly focused on the physical dimension of health but became aware of the mental dimension when they discussed and reflected during interviews. Overall, students found the term health to be complex and somewhat difficult to understand. The students experienced little or no development of their health competence through PE. Although they considered that it was important to learn about health, they were concerned that, if more learning about health was implemented in PE, this would make the subject more theoretical and result in less movement and practical activities. Further, the strong activity discourse in PE is discussed in relation to students’ health perceptions. Final reflections Although curricula in PE seem to be developing towards a holistic perspective on health, students do not seem to understand health from this perspective. It seems that they encounter a biomedical approach to health and that PE teachers emphasize the physical dimension of health in teaching. The students' understanding of the concept of learning as theoretical and the teachers' instrumental teaching about health in PE could substantiate a narrow view of health in PE. To promote learning about health from a more holistic perspective, the learning focus of the subject should be highlighted. Furthermore, pedagogical approaches that aim to increase students' reflections and experiences of various dimensions of health through practical learning processes should be emphasized.

Physical literacy needs in esports: literature review

This study aims to identify the needs and the importance of physical literacy in esports and to develop a new understanding of the forms of physical literacy that can be applied to esports athletes. This qualitative research used literature review approach from various databases in the Esports Research Network (ERN), Frontier, MDPI, PLOS, Human Kinetick, PubMed, ResearchGate, and Taylor & Francis. There are 12 research results from the databases. The results identified crucial physical needs for esports athletes, such as strength, endurance, balance, and flexibility. In addition, this study also found several existing forms of physical literacy, such as directed physical exercise programs and health education, but not necessarily all athletes have sufficient access or understanding of this literacy. Based on these findings, it is recommended to develop a physical exercise program which suits individual needs, and attention should be paid to the packaging of physical literacy with the right media to be delivered to athletes effectively. The implications of this study include benefits for esports athletes, coaches, esports organizations, researchers, media, and the public in increasing understanding of the importance of physical health and physical literacy in esports. By following the suggestions proposed, more effective efforts can be made to improve the health, performance, and well-being of esports athletes in the future. Survey of Facilities and Infrastructure for Physical Education, Sports and Health SMAN 19 Medan

This study utilises the survey methodology to gather descriptive information. SMA Negeri 19 Medan boasts a wide range of resources and infrastructure that effectively support the implementation of physical education, health, and sports (PJOK) education. The aim of this inquiry is to determine the presence, amount, and state of these facilities and infrastructure at SMA Negeri 19 Medan. The study focuses on examining the facilities and infrastructure related to physical education, health, and sports (PJOK) at SMA Negeri 19 Medan. The study subject encompasses the entirety of the population under consideration. The PJOK facilities will be the focus of examination in this particular case. The findings of this analysis suggest that the infrastructure and amenities provided for each sport are unique. This applies universally to all sports, including acrobatics, athletics, volleyball, basketball, and football. Unlike game sports facilities, which exhibit a 50% rate of adherence and a 50% rate of non-adherence, athletic sports facilities demonstrate a 40% rate of adherence and a 60% rate of non-adherence. The compliance rate of gymnastics facilities is 14%, while the noncompliance rate is 86%. The compliance rate of infrastructure facilities is 67%, while the noncompliance rate is 33%. Therefore, it can be inferred that the average percentage result for all the physical education, health, and sports (PJOK) facilities and infrastructure at SMA Negeri 19 Medan is 39%, indicating that it meets the criteria, and 61%, indicating that it does not meet the norms. The physical education, health, and sports (PJOK) facilities and infrastructure at SMA Negeri 19 Medan do not satisfy the standards set by the Regulation of the Minister of National Education Number 24 of 2007. They fall short of the minimum requirement by less than fifty percent. Therefore, it is reasonable to deduce that the facilities and infrastructure are insufficient.

Evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of a co-designed physical activity intervention for rural middle schoolers: a pilot study

BackgroundLack of physical activity is a concern for children across diverse backgrounds, particularly affecting those in rural areas who face distinct challenges compared to their urban counterparts. Community-derived interventions are needed that consider the unique context and additional physical activity barriers in under-resourced rural settings. Therefore, a prospective pre-post pilot/feasibility study of Hoosier Sport was conducted over 8-weeks with 6th and 7th grade children in a low-socioeconomic rural middle school setting. The primary objective of the present study was to assess trial- and intervention-related feasibility indicators; and the secondary objective was to collect preliminary assessment data for physical activity levels, fitness, psychological needs satisfaction, and knowledge of physical activity and nutrition among participating youth.MethodsThis prospective 8-week pilot/feasibility study took place in the rural Midwestern United States where twenty-four middle school students participated in a mixed-methods pre-post intervention during physical education classes. The intervention included elements like sport-based youth development, individualized goal setting, physical activity monitoring, pedometer usage, and health education. Data were collected at baseline (T1) and post-intervention (T3), with intermediate measures during the intervention (T2). Qualitative data were integrated through semi-structured interviews. Analytical methods encompassed descriptive statistics, correlations, repeated measures ANOVA, and thematic analysis.ResultsKey findings indicate robust feasibility, with intervention-related scores (FIM, AIM, and IAM) consistently surpassing the “good” threshold and 100% retention and recruitment success. Additionally, participants showed significant physical performance improvement, shifting from the 25th to the 50th percentile in the 6-minute walk test (p < 0.05). Autonomy and competence remained high, reflecting positive perceptions of program practicality. Nutrition knowledge, initially low, significantly improved at post-intervention (p < 0.01), highlighting the efficacy of targeted nutritional education in Hoosier Sport.ConclusionsThis study pioneers a community-engaged model for physical activity intervention in under-resourced rural settings. Positive participant feedback, coupled with improvements in physical fitness and psychosocial factors, highlights the potential of the co-design approach. The findings offer valuable insights and a practical template for future community-based research, signaling the promising impact of such interventions on holistic well-being. This research lays the foundation for subsequent phases of the ORBIT model, emphasizing collaborative, community-driven approaches to address the complex issue of declining physical activity levels among adolescents.

Development of Flip Book-Based Learning Media for Sports Physiology in Physical Education Students at University

This study aimed to develop and validate flip book-based learning media for sports physiology at the Faculty of Sports Science, Medan State University, focusing on Recreational Health Physical Education students. The research utilized the ADDIE development model, encompassing Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate stages. Data collection involved media expert validation questionnaires, materials, and trials with small and large student samples. Quantitative descriptive analysis was employed to present product development results, validate the tool, and assess its feasibility. Initial validation by a linguist resulted in a 76% suitability score, which improved to 89% after revisions, categorizing it as very feasible. Similarly, media experts rated the first stage at 76%, increasing to 89% post-revision. Small sample trials among students yielded a 76% suitability score, while large sample trials achieved 89%, both in the very feasible category. The findings indicate that flip book-based sports physiology learning media are highly suitable for use by physical education, health, and recreation students at Medan State University.

Disparities in the Care Disruption During COVID-19 and in its Impacts on the Mental and Physical Well-Being of Cancer Survivors.

Our study explores cancer care disruption among different demographic subgroups. It also investigates these disruptions' impacts on cancer survivors' mental and physical well-being. Pooled cross-sectional survey data. Health Information Trends Survey for Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results, HINTS-SEER. n = 1234 cancer survivors participated in the study and completed the survey. Outcome variables were treatment disruption in cancer care, mental health and physical health perceptions, age, race, education, income, and sexual orientation. Multiple imputations were used to address missing data. Descriptive statistics were conducted to understand the perceptions of care disruption. Partial least squares structural equation models were employed for data analysis, adjusted for socio-demographics. COVID-19 impacted cancer treatment and follow-up appointments (69.45%), routine cancer screening (60.70%), and treatment plans (73.58%), especially among elderly patients. It changed the interactions with health care providers (HCP) for 28.03% of the participants. Older adults were 2.33 times more likely to experience treatment appointment disruptions. People who thought their contact with their doctors changed during COVID-19 were more likely to be older adults (65 or more) (OR = 3.85, P = .011), white (OR >1, P = .002), and with higher income (OR = 1.81, P = .002). The changes to cancer treatment and follow-up medical appointments negatively impacted the well-being of the patients (mental: β = -.006, P = .043; physical: β = -.001, P = .006), routine screening and preventative care visits (mental: β = -.029, P = .031; physical: β = -.003, P = .008), and cancer treatment plans (mental: β = -.044, P = .024; physical: β = -.021, P = .040). Our findings underscore the crucial requirement for implementing focused interventions aimed at alleviating the discrepancies in the accessibility of cancer care across diverse demographic groups, particularly during times of emergency, in order to mitigate any potential disruptions in care.

Efficacy of a non-pharmaceutical multimodal intervention program in a group setting for patients with mild cognitive impairment: A single-arm interventional study with pre-post and external control analyses

AimThis study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a non-pharmaceutical multimodal intervention program consisting of physical exercise, cognitive stimulation, and health education in a group setting to slow the progression of mild cognitive impairment (MCI). MethodsA single-arm interventional study was conducted on 27 patients with MCI. To evaluate the efficacy of the intervention program, a pre-post analysis was performed using EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Cognitive Function Instrument (CFI), 5 Cog test, depression, and physical performance before and after the 8-month intervention. Additionally, propensity score and the semi-Bayes analyses were performed to compare the intervention program with standard medical care, using the external control patients’ data for MMSE scores. ResultsTwenty-four patients completed the intervention program. During the study period, although EQ-5D and MMSE scores remained unchanged (mean change 0.02 [95 % confidence interval (CI): −0.004, 0.04], 0.5 [-0.2, 1.3]), CFI and the subcategories of 5Cog (attention and reasoning) improved (mean change −1.23 [-2.24, −0.21], 4.3 [0.9, 7.7], 3.0 [0.4, 5.6]). In the additional analysis comparing changes in MMSE scores, patients who underwent the intervention program had less decline than the external control patients (mean change −1.7 [-2.1, −1.3]) with an observed mean difference of 2.25 [1.46, 3.03], and propensity score-adjusted difference of 2.26 [1.46, 3.05]. The semi-Bayesian approach also suggested that the intervention slowed the progression of MCI. ConclusionA non-pharmaceutical multimodal intervention program could contribute to slowing cognitive decline in patients with MCI.

Pedagogical approaches to health-related physical education (PE) in the context of digitalisation – a scoping review

ABSTRACT Introduction There are varied consequences of digital transformation processes within the fitness and health-related living environments of adolescents (e.g. increased physical activity through wearables, body dissatisfaction through social media) which could potentially provide fruitful health-related learning experiences within different pedagogical approaches to health in PE (e.g. biomedical vs. alternative, Mong and Standal, 2019, “Didactics of Health in Physical Education – a Review of Literature.” Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy 24 (5): 506–518. https://doi.org/10.1080/17408989.2019.1631270). However, concerns have been raised that the integration of digital media into health-related PE could reinforce biomedical approaches to health and lead, for example, to a focus on increasing fitness through technology. This one-sided focus would not be in line with the demands for a comprehensive health education. This paper aims to map the current trend of pedagogical approaches to health-related PE in the context of digitalisation and to identify typical learning goals against this background. Methods We conducted a scoping review based on the framework of Tricco et al. (2018, “PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews: Checklist and Explanation.” Annals of Internal Medicine 169 (7): 467–473. https://doi.org/10.7326/M18-0850). We searched nine databases using a search term covering three topic areas: digitalisation, health, and physical education. Considering the publication years from 2013 to 2023, we selected papers in a three-step process (title-, abstract-, and full-text-screening). In total, we included 103 empirical and theoretical papers in the analysis using qualitative content analysis (Kuckartz, 2019, “Qualitative Text Analysis: A Systematic Approach.” In Compendium for Early Career Researchers in Mathematics Education, edited by G. Kaiser and N. Presmeg, 181–197. Cham: Springer). To map the pedagogical approach to health, we applied the following main deductive categories: conceptualisation of health, paradigmatic approach to health and envisaged learning goals. To analyse learning goals with regard to digitalisation, we used the distinction between learning with and about digital media as a focus of analysis. Results The scoping review shows that most of the papers discussed a broad conceptualisation of health for PE by addressing biopsychosocial aspects of health. Many of the implications for health- and digitalisation-associated learning goals related to pre-reflective and functional-reflective learning goals in the area of learning with digital media. They mainly focused, from a pathogenic viewpoint, on how digital media can increase health-enhancing physical activity, affective determinants of health behaviour and health-related knowledge. Parts of these learning goals have already been empirically investigated. Only a few papers proposed critical-reflective learning goals in the area of learning about digital media, aiming at a socio-emancipatory engagement with digital media, health and society. No empirical study within the scoping review investigated the effectiveness of such critical health- and digitalisation-related PE. Discussion and conclusion In light of the results, it is important that future genuine pedagogical research about health- and digitalisation-related PE increasingly focuses on the development and empirical evaluation of theoretically sound concepts for PE that are in line with the educational demands of comprehensive – thus also critical and salutogenic – health and digital education.

Survey on the Creativity of Physical Education Teachers in Facing Online Learning at State Junior High Schools

This study aims to determine the creativity of sports and health physical education teachers in dealing with online learning in physical education subjects (PJOK). Creativity is needed in doing something like the learning process, in the learning process creativity is needed, a teacher who does not have creativity in teaching is unlikely to create creative and innovative students during the learning process. This type of research is a quantitative descriptive with percentage data and the method used is a survey method. The population of this study were all teachers of PJOK of State Junior High Schools in North Inderalaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency. Researchers took other subject teachers, principals and PJOK teachers with a total of 97 samples. Data collection techniques used are questionnaires and documentation. The data analysis technique used is statistical analysis of percentages in the form of frequency tables and histograms. Based on the research results obtained from the creativity of PJOK teachers in dealing with online learning, it is known that the percentage of PJOK teachers' creativity is 90,0% and for online learning 90,1% For the overall indicator of 90,2 %, the result means that it is included in the good category for the criteria for the percentage of teacher creativity in dealing with online learning.

Intervensi Latihan Fisik terhadap Perbaikan Status Frailty Pada Lansia

This study aims to explore physical exercise interventions that can improve frailty status in the elderly. The method used was a systematic review. The results showed that 6 articles with experimental research types (Single-Arm Pre-Post Comparison Trial), and Randomized Controlled Trial which provide evidence that different physical exercise interventions can improve frailty status in the elderly, namely 1) Combination of brain and physical function training and health education, 2) Multicomponent Exercise Program (MCEP), 3) Community-based group Functional Power Training (FPT), 4) Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) on Whole Body Vibration (WBV), 5) Resistance Training (RT) and 6) Vitality Acupunch (VA) Exercise. In conclusion, there are six physical exercise interventions that can all be recommended to prevent and improve the frailty status of the elderly by maintaining and increasing muscle mass and function. “She Resolved My Doubts, and I Was a Little Calmer”: A Qualitative Analysis of the HoPE Community-Based Doula Care Program in an Urban Public Hospital [ID 2683480

INTRODUCTION: Doula care, or trained lay birth support, represents an evidence-based and cost-effective strategy to improve maternal and child health. However, limited studies have focused on implementing doula care, especially in racial and ethnic minoritized communities. This study assessed HoPE (Helping Promote Birth Equity through Community-Based Doula Care), an intervention within two Queens, New York, public hospitals. METHODS: This qualitative analysis is part of a mixed-methods evaluation using the RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance) implementation science framework (IRB 21-01571). We conducted interviews in English or Spanish with HoPE doula clients (n=13), doulas (n=10), and health care providers (n=8) to assess acceptability, feasibility, and satisfaction. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and translated (if needed). Multiple coders analyzed themes and developed an analytical narrative. RESULTS: Preliminary findings suggest that HoPE serves a population in critical need of the support offered by community-based doulas. Regarding reach, doula clients were primarily immigrants and first-time mothers with limited social support and financial resources. We observed doula effectiveness in health care navigation, communication with providers, emotional, mental health, and physical support, infant care, health education, and referrals to social resources. Doula clients, doulas, and providers were generally satisfied with the program and found it acceptable and feasible. Implementation challenges, including language capability and timely client matching, hindered reach and effectiveness. CONCLUSION: These preliminary findings demonstrate how community-based doula support can improve health care access and quality of care in diverse, underserved communities. Ongoing evaluation will be used to improve HoPE and contribute to the knowledge of community-centered interventions promoting equity in obstetric care.

Qualitative Analysis Following the Delivery of a Farmer Lifestyle Program

ABSTRACT Background Irish farmers are adversely affected by noncommunicable diseases. Although there has been an increase in farmer health promotion activities in Ireland, farmers views on lifestyle programs are currently unknown. Objectives To qualitatively analyze the impact of the previously mentioned 6-week physical activity and health education intervention on farmer health and to investigate how best to support this cohort moving forward. Methods A qualitative study was conducted online (two interviews, three focus groups) with fourteen Irish farmers (53.5 ± 6.5 years) who completed the 6-week program in December 2019. Interviews and focus groups were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed for themes. Results The main themes that emerged from this study were barriers, facilitators, and recommendations for lifestyle programs aimed to improve farmer health. Additional views on health and lifestyle behaviors were mentioned. Time of year was reported as the main barrier for farmers to engage in lifestyle programs. The key facilitators reported by farmers were the social health benefits obtained from the program and the farmer-specific nature of the program. Farmers suggested that physical activity and health education programs that are farmer-specific, delivered locally and catering for all fitness abilities should be more widely available to them. Although some farmers reported that they maintained the lifestyle behaviors they established during the initial 6-week program, follow-up supports are needed to encourage sustainable behavior change. Conclusions Interventions that are farmer-specific, community-based, and feasible within the context of available resources may be effective in improving farmer health. Working in partnership with organizations that support farmers has the potential to improve farmer health.

Effectiveness of multi-modal home-based videoconference interventions on sleep in older adults: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Aging is characterized by substantial changes in sleep architecture that negatively impact fitness, quality of life, mood, and cognitive functioning. Older adults often fail to reach the recommended level of physical activity to prevent the age-related decline in sleep function, partly because of geographical barriers. Implementing home-based interventions could surmount these obstacles, thereby encouraging older adults to stay active, with videoconference administration emerging as a promising solution. Increasing the availability of biological rhythms synchronizers, such as physical activity, light exposure, or vestibular stimulation, represents a viable non-pharmacological strategy for entraining circadian rhythms and potentially fortifying the sleep-wake cycle, thereby enhancing sleep in aging. This study aims to (1) assess the impact of remote physical exercise training and its combination with bright light exposure, and (2) investigate the specific contribution of galvanic vestibular stimulation, to sleep quality among healthy older adults with sleep complaints. One hundred healthy older adults aged 60-70 years with sleep complaints will be randomly allocated to one of four groups: a physical exercise training group (n = 25), a physical exercise training combined with bright light exposure group (n = 25), a galvanic vestibular stimulation group (n = 25) or a control group (i.e., health education) (n = 25). While physical exercise training and health education will be supervised via videoconference at home, bright light exposure (for the physical exercise training combined with bright light exposure group) and vestibular stimulation will be self-administered at home. Pre-and post-tests will be conducted to evaluate various parameters, including sleep (polysomnography, subjective questionnaires), circadian rhythms (actigraphy, temperature), fitness (physical: VO2 peak, muscular function; and motor: balance, and functional mobility), cognition (executive function, long-term memory), quality of life and mood (anxiety and depression). The findings will be anticipated to inform the development of recommendations and non-pharmaceutical preventive strategies for enhancing sleep quality in older adults, potentially leading to improvements in fitness, cognition, quality of life, and mood throughout aging.

The effects of a combined physical activity and health education program on health knowledge and well-being of socially vulnerable children.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of the football-based health education program "11 for Health" on health knowledge and well-being in the setting of a 10-week residential stay in a Danish charity home for socially vulnerable children. Six hundred and fourteen children participated in the study, of which 305 took part in the standard program plus "11 for Health" (SG+: 12.4 ± 1.4 (mean ± SD) years) and 309 took part in the standard program (SG: 12.4 ± 1.6 years). We used a crossover design over two full years. The study examined changes in health knowledge and well-being through questionnaires. Overall health knowledge increased more in SG+ than SG over 10 weeks (6.6 vs. 3.4%, p < 0.05). The overall well-being scores were markedly improved (p < 0.05) by 4.54 ± 7.17 AU in SG+ and 4.51 ± 7.16 AU in SG, with no between-group differences. Specific improvements (p < 0.05) were seen in all well-being subcategories, raising the well-being scores to the national average. In conclusion, a 10-week stay at a Danish charity home, the Christmas Seal Home, markedly affected health knowledge and well-being of socially vulnerable children. When the football-based health education program-11 for Health-was added, there were additional positive effects on health knowledge.

Effects of aerobic exercise on children's executive function and academic performance: A systematic review and meta-analysis

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of exercise on executive function in children, providing an evidence-based foundation to inform future research in school physical education and health education. MethodsWe searched ten databases: Cochrane Library, Scopus, OVID, Web of Science, PubMed, EBSCOhost, SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, CNKI, WANFANG DATA, VIP, and SinoMed, and eight articles were included. Applying the revised Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool for Randomized Trials (RoB2), funnel plots and Egger regression analysis were integrated with R meta-analysis to screen for publication bias. The quality of the evidence was appraised using the Grading system. ResultsThe included literature contained 2655 participants, with 1308 in the experimental group and 1347 in the control group. The results indicated that the aerobic exercise group considerably improved inhibitory control in children compared to the control group [SMD = 0.29, 95% CI (0.05, 0.54), P = 0.018]; working memory [SMD = 0.25, 95% CI (0.07, 0.42), P = 0.005]; and cognitive flexibility [SMD = 0.36, 95% CI (0.17, 0.54), P < 0.001]. However, the findings indicated that only aerobic exercise interventions extending beyond 50 weeks positively influenced academic performance in children [SMD = 1.19, 95% CI (0.34, 2.04), P = 0.006]. The results of an Egger regression analysis revealed that the p-values for inhibitory control, working memory, cognitive flexibility, and academic performance were more significant than 0.1. The Grade system said that the quality of evidence was all low regarding the level of evidence. ConclusionAerobic exercise enhanced executive function but only aerobic exercise interventions extending beyond 50 weeks demonstrated a significant effect on the academic performance of children. Due to the low quality of evidence presented in this study, additional high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings.
