Objective To explore the effects of WeChat-based health education model on compliance behavior and quality of life in patients receiving vitrectomy combined with silicone oil endotamponade. Methods Totally 120 patients with retinal detachment admitted in Beijing Tongren Hospital between January and December 2016 were selected using convenient sampling and divided into the control group (n=60) and the observation group (n=60) according to the random number table. Patients in the control group received conventional discharge instructions, while patients in the observation group received WeChat-based health education on this basis. The patients in the two groups were investigated with the Compliance Behavior Scale and the Quality of Life Scale for Visual Impairment Patients 6 months post operation to compare the effects of intervention. Results The scores of positioning, regular reexamination, self-monitoring, lifestyle, avoidance of inducing factors, and health and fitness in the observation group were higher than those in the control group 6 months post operation (P<0.01) . The scores of symptoms and visual function, physical function, social activity, mentality and phycology in the observation group were higher than those in the control group 6 months post operation (P<0.01) . Conclusions The WeChat-based health education model, when used in patients receiving vitrectomy combined with silicone oil endotamponade, can effectively improve their compliance behavior and quality of life.
