A project of a new photographic catalogue of positions and proper motions of stars of the Southern Sky

The reference photographic catalogue of the southern sky (RPC) will be a basis for investigations in the fields of astrometry, stellar astronomy, geodesy, space studies etc. in the southern hemisphere. It will be a catalogue of high precision, containing both bright and faint stars, reliably connected to the fundamental catalogue and giving an inertial coordinate system for a wide range of southern stars. The RPC will be an extension of the Goloseevo Plan (1) for the southern hemisphere. However, our project has its own peculiarities, mainly because there is no AGK3 type catalogue of the southern sky for the present epoch.

The Catalogue of Stellar Identifications

Collecting all the data and references for a given star is generally a very time-consuming task, because the star may have many identifications. It is therefore a very first need to know the various identifications which may be used in the primary literature concerning a given star, in order to retrieve the whole set of information about the star.The Catalogue of Stellar Identifications (CSI), which tries to solve this problem of cross-identifications, is therefore the fundamental file of the Stellar Data Center. It was created five years ago by J. Jung (1971), who was the first Director of the Center, with the help of Madame Bischoff and Madame Morin. The CSI was first a merging of some fundamental catalogues: SAO, HD, AGK2, CPC (Cape Photographic Catalogue for 1950), YZ (Yale Zone Catalogue), and GC. For each star, the information was the following:

Photography of comets 1973f (Kohoutek) and 1974b (Bradfield) at Mauna Kea observatory

A catalog and examples of photographs of Comets Kohoutek (1973f) and Bradfield (1974b) made at Mauna Kea Observatory in Hawaii are given. Some photographs were obtained with an Aero Ektar ƒ/2.5 lens of 305-mm focal length, but most were made with a Celestron ƒ/1.5 Schmidt camera, also of 305-mm focal length.

Thoughts on the Future of Photographic Catalogues

The current astrometric programmes of zone photography and minor planet observations at the Sydney Observatory are reviewed. Future instrumental requirements and resources needed for zone catalogue work are discussed.

This volume contain an account of the work done at Burgos on the total eclipse of the sun of August 30, 1905, by MM. Rayet and Courty, also actinometric observations made by M. Esclangon at Bordeaux, from a balloon, on the same occasion. Catalog of photographs belonging to the Geological Society of America

Introduction This catalog gives the titles of all the photographs which have been donated to the Society up to the end of May, 1902. It is arranged alphabetically by states and countries. The numbers are from 1 to 1418. There is also a subject index with headings of some of the principal geologic phenomena under which the numbers and brief titles of the photographs are given in numerical order. The original number of photographs was 2,037, as given in catalogs of accessions published in the Proceedings from volumes 1 to 12. It was known for some time that the collection had become too bulky and contained a large amount of worthless material. On my suggestion a committee was appointed, consisting of G. K. Gilbert, J. S. Diller, and myself, with authority to exclude the undesirable views. This was done in 1901, photographs being rejected only when there was unanimous agreement. . . .
