Hospice educators' perspectives on e-learning in palliative care education in Ireland.

Knowledge of and understanding the palliative care approach should be a core competency in all healthcare settings. E-learning offers the potential to deliver palliative care education and meet this challenge. To examine hospice educator's perspectives of e-learning in palliative care education. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposeful sample of hospice educators on the island of Ireland (Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). These were transcribed and the data was analysed thematically. Many factors were considered when using e-learning: objectives of the programme, learner's characteristics, topic suitability (as palliative care is very emotive) and organisational factors. Barriers to using e-learnning were the preparation time required and developing expertise in e-learning. Support mechanisms for hospice educators to share knowledge would be beneficial. Educators were keen to adopt a blended approach in their teaching. While acknowledging the challenges and limitations of e-learning, educators felt that e-learning has a positive role in palliative care education.

Faculty Members’ Perspectives on E-learning Use during COVID-19 among Teaching Faculty at KSAU-HS, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Introduction/Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic's significant effects could alter education in the future. There was an unexpected but necessary transition to online education. This study aimed to examine faculty members' perspectives regarding e-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as their level of preparedness for e-learning, considering the epidemic's complete lockdown. Methods: The study utilized a survey research (cross-sectional) design. The sample size was calculated to be a minimum of 106 faculty members. A validated electronic questionnaire was communicated to faculty members of four colleges at KSAU-HS, Jeddah. Its primary components addressed e-learning preparation, e-learning experience before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, and demographic data. Results: A total of 112 faculty members, with a response rate of 25%, completed the survey. Females made up 50.9% of the sample, and about 30% were between 36-40 years of age with different academic rankings and teaching experiences. Faculty members revealed that more than half of them were novices with no prior experience in e-learning before the epidemic. Nonetheless, faculty members' perspectives of e-learning were favorable, and they significantly improved after COVID-19 (91.9%) compared to before COVID-19 (45.9%). Most participants were enthusiastic (82.3%) about and confident in using e-learning in teaching and learning. Yet, e-learning was only partially used as a substitute for hands-on skill training and assessment. Regarding the impact of the transition to online education during the pandemic, 87.5% of the participants in the survey expressed increased confidence in the efficacy of online learning and teaching. Additionally, the teaching/learning preference of the participants showed that (61.6%) preferred combining online with traditional face-to-face instruction, (35.7%) preferred traditional face-to-face instruction, and only 3 (2.7%) preferred online instruction alone. Conclusion: This study delivers informative viewpoints on the importance of e-learning and the teaching staff's willingness and competence with it. It calls for improving our institution's e-learning readiness and participation by addressing several individual and infrastructure issues. This is an excellent chance to remove obstacles in e-learning and teaching in medical and healthcare colleges.

A Study to assess the perspective of E-learning among nursing students in selected nursing college Thrissur

Introduction: E- learning is used to provide instructional program to students who are separated by distance and from the instructor or teachers. E-learning is a relatively new phenomenon to the nursing profession scenario, currently both the educators and students are under pressure with the idea of its implementation and adaptation respectively due to covid-19 pandemic outbreak. Objective; To assess the perspective of e-learning among nursing students. Methodology; Descriptive study with stratified quota sampling was used to collect data from 225 nursing students. A modified four point Likert Scale was prepared in google form to assess the Perspective of E-learning among nursing students and descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Results: Result showed that 127(56.4%) of the students were in the age group of 20 to 22 years, 125(55.6%) nursing students belongs to BSc Nursing, and majority of students 137(60.9%) were the resident of urban area. Most of them 201(89.3%) were using mobile for E - learning and majority of samples 191(84.9%) had no previous experience on E-learning, most of them 156(69.3%) had previous knowledge on computer and 145 (64.4%) were interested in E-earning. majority of the samples 130(57.8%) had medium level of pespectiveness in the quality of information provided through E-learning, most of the samples 194(72%) had medium pespectiveness on perception, 176(78.2%) had perceived the E-learning as beneficial in the provided aspects, majority 154(68.4%) nursing students felt challenges in E-learning perspective and overall 181(80.4%) had medium level of perspective towards E-[earning. It is also found that the sociodemographic variable of previous knowledge on computer technology and interest towards E-learning had significant association with nursing students perspective of E-learning at p value 0.000(p< 0.05). Conclusion: Hence the situation of COVID 19 pandemic or any such like situations online education can be conducted but for a better experience of learning among professional nursing students a blended approach of face to face and online teaching strategies can be used.

EFL Learners’ Perspectives of E-Learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Study on Saudi College Students

The learning process during Covid-19 pandemic has witnessed significant changes in the modes of instruction, with E-learning emerging as an absolute path in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. The current study seeks to investigate the perspectives of Saudi EFL students with regard to e-learning during the pandemic and the challenges encountered. The significance of this study stems from the importance of integrating e-learning into language learning in a methodological way with the proper planning of activities, technologies, and tutors and students’ skills. The participants of this study consisted of Saudi EFL learners in two Saudi universities, namely King Saud University and King Khalid University, who study in the department of English language. The sample consisted of (53) students who study in their fourth year and who were selected randomly from the department of English language. The research results demonstrated that the perceptions of the students of e-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic were positive because they see that e-learning makes learning easier, especially in the student-instructor interaction, as well as using various teaching styles and assessment methods and they participated in making the students prefer e-learning in their future education. However, the students reported that they do not have all the technical skills needed for e-learning and that they face technical problems and a lack of social relations during online learning. Based on these results, the researcher recommended training the students on e-learning skills and platforms and providing them with the required technologies for the effective adoption of e-learning.

Digital libraries and e-learning (electronic learning) systems are the information retrieval systems of the modern information society of the 21st century. Modern digital libraries offer many opportunities in today's information infrastructure with their resources that can support e-learning. In the study, the interaction of digital library and e-learning in the digital age is examined on the basis of the concepts of digital library and e-learning. The aim of the study, which is based on the literature, is to explore the role that digital libraries play in e-learning. Within the scope of the study, the functions, functioning, advantages and disadvantages of digital libraries are addressed and discussed from the perspective of e-learning. The study findings point out the increasing role of digital libraries on e-learning with the facilitating effect of developments in information technologies. Student Pharmacist Led International E-Learning Collaborative and Educational Experience: Understanding the Role of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Curriculum in Mexico and USA

Background: Pharmacy students in Mexico are exposed to United States’ pharmacy community services in hopes to adopt the services for their own pharmacy program.
 Objectives: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a strictly online-based teaching method to improve student knowledge on the role of pharmacists and the pharmacy curriculum in Mexico and the United States.
 Methods: This was a prospective study of pharmacy students attending the University of California, San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (UCSD SSPPS) and Facultad de Quimic-Pharmaco-Biologia de la Universidad Michoacana San Nicolas de Hidalgo (UMSNH) during the 2015-2016 academic year who enrolled in the E-Learning Collaborative and Educational Experience Independent Study.
 Results: The e-learning course had 25 students total from both the United States and Mexico enrolled. Out of the 25 students, 4 students from the United States and 11 students from Mexico agreed to participate in the study. In the familiarity/confidence section of survey, there was a significant increase in 4 out of 5 questions in the Mexico group and 2 out of 5 in the U.S. groups. In the survey section regarding students’ perspective of e-learning and likelihood of community involvement, there was no statistical difference in the U.S. group and only one in the Mexico group.
 Conclusion: Despite the lack of statistical significance, the increase in median scores and proportion of correct responses in addition to the feedback provided by students suggest a positive learning experience to supports continuation of this study.

Creating IoT-Enriched Learner-Centered Environments in Sports Science Higher Education during the Pandemic

In the pandemic context, creating IoT-enriched learner-centered environments was not only a tendency but a requirement for sustainable teaching and learning in universities with sports science programs for theoretical classes and practical activities. Our study aims to assess both the extent to which the sports science academic environment has been prepared for online teaching and the key features of dedicated e-learning teaching and training in sports science to provide the highest-quality educational services in pandemic conditions. An online survey was administered to academic staff in the field of sports science from two Romanian universities. The results of the study reveal that online teaching has been associated with major changes in terms of methods and methodology, but also with a new dynamic of external and internal factors regarding teachers and their relationship with students. At the same time, it depends on a solid specific infrastructure and IoT facilities (MOOCs, VR/AR, mobile devices). As a mirror of the student-centered approach, universities in the field of sports science have experienced the same concerns about the outcomes of the educational process. In this regard, universities can become sustainable if they positively integrate e-learning into their teaching system and consolidate their quality standards from an e-learning perspective.

A study on e-learning perspective for employees of corporate sector

Although more expensive than classroom education, e-learning is also less expensive in the longer run. Additional expenditures, like as training facilities and travel fees for workers or trainers, are significantly decreased by using e-learning methods in conjunctions with traditional trainings. Although this is true, one instructional approach that remains here to stay is e-learning, which teaches people required information, skills, and attitudes. How it is developed, administered, and assessed will determine how effective it is, as well as how viable it is. This Research paper takes a detailed look at current condition of e-learning in India’s Corporate Sector. We analyse the efficacy of e-learning by analysing the literature that addresses the consequences of e-learning. This research agenda was developed with the purpose of uniting the science and practice of e-learning.

The Perspective of e-learning in Higher Education: A Systematized Review

Background: This study aimed to draw the perspective of e-learning in Iran and the world. In other words, an attempt was made to explore the goals, strategies, obstacles, enablers, and innovations of e-learning in higher education systems of Iran and other countries across the world. Methods: A systematized literature review of domestic and international studies was performed using PRISMA guidelines for data collection. Original studies from Iranian databases (Magiran, IranDoc, Civilica, and Noormags) and international databases (ScienceDirect, Springer, Taylor & Francis, and Sage) were included. Three criteria were considered for selecting the sources: relevance to the topic, date of publication (2004-2019 for domestic, and 2005-2020 for international databases), and credibility of sources. Additionally, comparative data analysis was performed using open and axial coding in Grounded Theory Methodology (GTM). Results: Forty one studies from Iranian databases and 22 from international databases were included. The Iranian research review demonstrated that the principal goals of e-learning were quality, cost reduction, and educational justice. Furthermore, it showed that the applied strategies included instructional design, needs assessment, suitable multimedia, and blended learning. Finally, it was revealed that the innovations were MOOCs. As for the international databases, the research review demonstrated that the principal goal of e-learning was innovation in providing instruction and learning at any time and location. The applied strategies included instructional design, evaluation of educational systems, and an interdisciplinary view of e-learning. Other research findings were also discussed. Discussion: Domestic sources were divided into 20 subcategories with respect to the goals, obstacles, enablers, strategies, and innovations. Based on the same factors, international studies fell into 21 subcategories. Decision makers are recommended to consider these elements in their policies regarding e-learning in higher education. Additional discussions and suggestions are provided within the article.

BACKGROUND As the epidemic of corona virus disease - 19 (COVID – 19) has struck the entire world, schools and colleges had to shut, there was a sudden shift from in-person education to online education which became difficult for the institutions. There was a distinctive rise of e-learning and this method of learning has several amazing features that would be useful for use during this period as this will constitute a new and fantasizing method of learning for the students. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study. The study participants were the students from dental college in Faridabad from 1st year to the final year of under graduate (UG) program. The total number of participants were 340 students. An online questionnaire was designed and given to students through the platform, google forms. This questionnaire consisted of three parameters - attitude, social presence, and student satisfaction. RESULTS Among the 340 students, 40 % of the students were males and 60 % of them were females. The three domains measured attitude, social presence, and satisfaction; to elearning had fourteen, seven and nine questions respectively. Pearson’s correlation test was applied, P - value was significant at P ˂ 0.05. When the three perspectives of e-learning were correlated with e-learners using pearson’s correlation coefficient, it was found that there was a very strong positive correlation among these three domains (P = 0.0001 for all three perspectives).The correlation between the three perspectives of e-learning, attitude versus social presence was 0.773, attitude versus satisfaction was 0.756 and social presence versus satisfaction was 0.794. CONCLUSIONS A predominantly positive response has been observed for satisfaction aspect. The results showed a positive response as it was seen in other surveys. When it comes to the social presence, the study shows that the online setting becomes impersonal but the comfort in collaboration is better than offline model. A Study on the Attitude of Secondary Level Students Towards E-Learning During COVID 19 Pandemic With Reference To Dibrugarh District, Assam

The educational system has come across a kind of revolutionized process after the outbreak of COVID 19 pandemic with the emergence of fully E-learning system. The study objective is to examine the difference between male and female E-learning perspective in relation to their interest,usefulness, ease and comfort during COVID 19 pandemic. For the present study, the quantitative approach has been adopted and responses from 82 students of secondary level from Dibrugarh district are collected through standardized tool .The findings of the study reveal students’ perception towards e-learning which is less satisfactory. Moreover the study have put forwards some recommendations for E-learning Success in the country and enhancing students’ knowledge and skills through the internet.

E-learning perspectives in higher education institutions

Use of modern ICT in education enabled a special type of studying known as distance learning. This form of learning needs to provide the level of knowledge and competences corresponding to the traditional learning. The basic value of this form of learning is that it enables learning anytime, anywhere in the world, with the intensity selected by the students themselves, etc. Although this form of learning is in frequent use all over the world, only 18 higher education institutions in the Republic of Serbia accredited at least one study program for distance learning. This paper focuses on the faculties within the University of Priština temporary settled in Kosovska Mitrovica, and the aim of the paper is to analyze the present status of the use of e-learning on these faculties. The special focus is on the analysis of potential options for accreditation of the e-learning study programs at these faculties.

COVID-19 Emergency eLearning and Beyond: Experiences and Perspectives of University Educators

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, eLearning became the lifeline of higher education. We explored university educators’ eLearning perspectives, practices, and future adoption intentions. In-depth interviews with 14 educators from a large university in Singapore were conducted. Educators had limited eLearning experience prior to COVID-19 emergency eLearning and expressed strong preferences for in-person sessions. The short notice to switch to eLearning and lack of eLearning experiences created stress and anxiety. Educators responded by making efforts that allowed for teaching to continue, conceding that some expectations had to be readjusted. Despite many obstacles, educators acknowledged reduced apprehension towards eLearning. Reflecting upon their experiences, educators highlighted opportunities and challenges of eLearning. A key opportunity was increased flexibility, which enabled students to learn independently. Additionally, eLearning triggered reflection upon educators teaching which could lead to improved practice. Reduction of some barriers to student–educator interaction were also mentioned. Key challenges include creating social, emotional, and cognitive engagement, catering to diverse student needs and providing holistic learning experiences. Considering opportunities and challenges, educators envisioned that eLearning would feature in their future teaching if practical and helpful for achieving educational goals. Hybrid or blended learning approaches were preferred, but support enabling the implementation of technology-based and pedagogy-informed teaching is necessary.

A review of the trend of microlearning

PurposeMicrolearning has been considered as a promising topic in work-based learning. This paper aims to review the trends of microlearning in terms of related publications and Internet searches. Hopefully, the findings can serve as a reference for the education sector, government, business and academia to promote, design and use microlearning.Design/methodology/approachIn this study, two sets of analysis were conducted. Firstly, the authors analysed the publication trend of microlearning. Second, the authors analysed the trend of Internet searches related to microlearning. More specifically, the authors analysed real-world data of 14 years obtained from Scopus and Google Trends for the purpose. These data include the first relevant publication found in the database.FindingsIn total, 476 relevant publications have been identified during 2006–2019. According to the findings from the analysis of the identified publications, microlearning is a relevantly new and emerging global topic involving authors, affiliations and funding sponsors from different countries. Moreover, many microlearning-related publications were conducted from perspectives of e-learning or mobile learning. Furthermore, the authors notice higher education was the most frequently mentioned education level in the identified publications. On the other hand, language learning (i.e. second language, vocabulary learning, etc.) had been mentioned more times in the titles and abstracts than other subject areas. Overall, the increasing trend of publications on “microlearning” (as a knowledge supply) is in line with the established increasing Internet searches of “microlearning” (as a practical demand) in recent years.Practical implicationsFrom the work-based learning perspective, microlearning has been considered as one of the key topics in talent development topics. Policymakers, educators, researchers and participators have the responsibility to explore how to promote, design and use microlearning to help people to learn in the right direction through valid knowledge with ethical consideration.Originality/valueAlthough many works had been done on microlearning, there is a lack of comprehensive studies reviewing the trends of microlearning in terms of related publications and Internet searches. This study aims to fill this gap by analysing real-world data obtained from Scopus and Google Trends – these data include the first relevant publication found in the database. The authors believe this is the first time that a study has been conducted to comprehensively review the development trends of microlearning. Hopefully, this study can shed some light on related research.

A qualitative study of students' perspective on e-learning adoption in India

PurposeThis paper will try to uncover how e-learning is giving a new shape to the education industry. Also, it will encompass the students' perspective and experience of e-learning.Design/methodology/approachThe present study employed interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) to intensely scrutinize the lived-in experiences of the participants. In the present study, the respondents were selected from Delhi NCR of India. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect the primary data to understand the student's perspectives on the impact of information and communications technology (ICT) in education industry.FindingsThe findings have been grouped under two sections referred to as “themes,” which include “drivers for e-learning adoption” and “inhibitors which restrict the adoption of e-learning.”Practical implicationsAt present, India does not have a big market for e-learning, but there is huge potential in the country. The present study may be helpful for the educational institutions in India and in similar developing countries in understanding the students' perspectives on e-learning adoption. The educational institutions may improve their systems accordingly so that they can not only retain the students of their own countries but also attract students from other countries for further education.Social implicationsE-learning can be employed to give users quick access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities, and the cultures to increase the tangibility.Originality/valueThe study will be useful to the policymakers in the higher education sector of developing nations like India, in understanding the students' mindsets. This study makes a contribution to the growing literature on e-learning, where the researchers have determined the relative importance of various motivating and inhibiting factors which influence the adoption of e-learning. Additionally, the study has used IPA as the methodology to determine the factors, which is a novel contribution.

Network Path Analysis for developing an enhanced TAM model: A user-centric e-learning perspective

The substantial use of Internet technologies for training and learning purposes of organisations has created a need to comprehend how various user-centric involvements can impact the recognized determinants of Information Technology design, acceptance and usage. This paper focuses at building a user centric framework for e-learning technologies, incorporating the constructs of security, privacy and trust with the proposal of a Network Path Analysis (NPA) algorithm. The existing Technology Acceptance Models (TAM) models are concerned with general e-commerce and retailing solutions alone. An enhanced version of the TAM model for the user-centric framework design of e-learning solutions is developed in this paper. An NPA algorithm focussing on the confirmatory data analysis of the dataset is developed to generate network models among the variables in e-learning solutions. User centric attributes, like Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Trust, Perceived Security, Perceived Privacy, Information Quality, Behavioral Intention to Use the System and Actual System Use are measured and analysed to create the enhanced model.

Impact of ICT in Education: Students’ Perspective

ICT brought waves of industry transformations, which is also visible in education industry. With the changing environment and the industry demand, student’s perspective towards learning is also changing at a fast pace. Gone are the days when teachers used to merely teach through blackboards in a lecture hall. The scenario is no more visible these days. ICT in education is being used to enhance creativity, interaction and knowledge sharing apart from student learning. But, the question is whether e-learning environment is able to achieve these objectives? This paper will try to uncover how e-learning is giving a new shape to the education industry. Also, it will encompass the students’ perspective and experience of e-learning. The results reveal that government is taking many initiatives for developing and improving this platform. Despite the efforts by the Government, students are still not fully convinced with the potential benefits of e-learning. Furthermore, these platforms have confused the students regarding which one should they opt for. Based on these findings, the authors have developed managerial implications for the educators, students as well as educational institutions.
