Population structure and village youth development planning

ABSTRACT It is projected that Indonesia would experience a demographic bonus in 2045, when the country’s population dependency ratio will peak at 53.35%. Studying population structure at the village level is essential in response to projections for Indonesia’s future demographic structure. The aim of this research is to explore youth’s position in the middle-income trap, dependency ratio, and the shifting demographic structure in 15 villages in Gianyar, Bali. Additionally, the study assesses the dependency ratio in rural areas and offers a method for determining the family-based dependency ratio. This study used a mixed methodology, using Data Desa Presisi (DDP). The study’s conclusions show that 15 villages in Gianyar, Bali now have an ageing population structure. These results can offer an overview considering rural village development planning with population structure, focusing the human development perspective as an approach to resolve social and economic issues of youth in Indonesia.

This article seeks to analyze the Diary of a medical intern from the perspective of human development and the sociological theory related to educational processes to characterize medical training in the internships. The aim is to reconstruct, through qualitative analysis of the discourse of this testimony, the educational system built around the training of doctors, especially in a crucial period such as internship, in which medical practice is learned within the hospital. In this scenario, learning occurs related to medical knowledge and disease treatments, but also towards attitudes, emotions, and behaviors as a product of social interactions between the actors in health establishments. They shed light on a health system with many material deficiencies that reproduce situations of mistreatment and humiliation not only among doctors, but also towards patients.

Proposed Human Resource Competency for Society 5.0

Society 5.0 can also be interpreted as a concept of a human-centered and technology-based society. The competency model will support the effectiveness of the recruitment and selection process so that companies can attract the talents needed to build their HR performance. Thus, the development of a competency model for Society 5.0 has considerable value in terms of education, training, and human development perspectives in facing the era of change, especially Society 5.0. The purpose of this study is to conduct an in-depth analysis of existing research and practice competency models and continue the development of competency models for Society 5.0. The research method uses Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is a research method used to collect, review and synthesize relevant literature in a particular research field. A literature search was conducted through academic databases, such as PubMed, ERIC, and Google Scholar, using appropriate keywords such as “human resource competency”, “society 5.0”. Next, this data is analyzed to identify patterns, trends, and consistencies in the findings. This study found that concepts of industrial revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0 focus on increasing the digitalization of the value chain, with humans as the main component in Society 5.0. To face the Society 5.0 era, human resources need to adapt to future challenges with high-level thinking abilities. Society 5.0 presents opportunities and challenges for companies. Human resource competency requires hard skills that are adapted to the Society 5.0 era.

Islamic banks' contribution to Indonesia districts' economic growth and poverty alleviation

PurposeThis research investigates the Islamic banks’ intermediation role (e.g. branches and deposits) in financing. It also examines how financing contributes to the regions' economic growth and poverty alleviation as a predictor and mediator variable.Design/methodology/approachA total of 297 observations were extracted from 33 Indonesian districts and 14 Islamic banks during the period 2012–2020. Fixed-effect regression analysis was used to examine variable’s interactions.FindingsThe empirical results indicate that Islamic banks have adopted a channelling role towards redistributing capital from lender to borrower. Besides, there are crucial roles in developing economies and reducing poverty at the district level. This study also reinforces the critical role of financing in mediating the relationship between branches and deposits as predictor variables and GDP and poverty as outcome variables.Research limitations/implicationsThe current study was limited to Indonesian Islamic banks and the district’s perspective. Future research needs to cover sub-districts and other poverty measurements (e.g. human education and development perspectives), including conventional and Islamic banks. It can help practitioners, regulators and researchers observe the dynamic behaviour of the banking sector to understand its role in the economic and social fields.Practical implicationsBank managers and regulators should promote branches, deposits and financing. It also enlightens people about the essential role of Islamic banks and their fundamental operations in business and economics.Originality/valueThis study contributes to economic literature, bank managers and local governments' decision-making processes by developing and testing an economic growth and poverty model.

Foundations and Implications of the Integral Ecology and Sustainable Development Goals in Catholic University Education

The Agenda provided by the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) represent an opportunity to eradicate poverty, preserve the planet, promote peace, and develop a more prosperous society. This global horizon is reinforced by the religious proposal of the Encyclical “Laudato si”, in which Pope Francis reflects on the anthropological, social, and spiritual repercussions of the interaction of human beings with their environmental reality. With the term integral ecology, the Catholic leader proposes processes to put an end of poverty, exclusion, and environmental degradation. This research aims to explore the cornerstones and application of the SDGs and integral ecology in the framework of the Catholic university. The study brings Agenda 2030 into dialogue with the Christian ethical perspective of human development and integral ecology by showing their complementarity. It develops the inclusion of the SDGs and integral ecology objectives in the mission and strategic plan of the Catholic university. For this reason, an action plan is projected in which the values of sustainability are transversally structured in the diverse areas of the university, such as governance, teaching, research, transfer of knowledge and social impact, extracurricular activity, green procurement, infrastructure, energy, waste, water, and mobility.

중소기업의 공유가치 창출(CSV) 활동과 기업의 사회적 지위 인식, 성장 마인드셋, GRIT 간의 구조적 관계

This study investigates the relationship between SMEs’ CSV (economic and social value) activities, recognizing corporate social status, growth mindset, GRIT (passion and persistence), and the mediating effect of the growth mindset. To this end, a questionnaire survey was conducted targeting employees of SMEs, and effective data from 333 participants were used with a response rate of 88.09%. Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were performed on the collected data using SPSS and AMOS, and the structural equation model and mediation effect were verified. As a result of the study, First, CSV’s social value creation activities significantly positively affected the ‘recognizing corporate social status’. Second, ‘recognizing corporate social status’ had a significantly positive effect on ‘growth mindset’, but did not significantly affect ‘GRIT’. Third, ‘growth mindset’ significantly positively affected perseverance within GRIT, but did not affect ‘passion’. Fourth, ‘recognizing corporate social status’ significantly positively affected the ‘perseverance’ of GRIT through a ‘growth mindset’. This study is significant in that, based on the research results, it proposed a plan to improve employees' GRIT and 'growth mindset' from the perspective of human resource development in SMEs.

Hierarchical Clustering of the European Countries from the Perspective of E-government, E-participation, and Human Development

Abstract The information society offers governments the opportunity to work closer with citizens and companies, to respond better to their requirements, and to create the conditions for the functioning of a modern, efficient, and democratic public administration. Due to the development of the information society, e-governance and e-participation appeared and developed, through which the communication of governments with stakeholders became more straightforward and less expensive. This research aims to identify and analyse comparatively how the telecommunications infrastructure and Internet users influenced the expansion and diversification of e- government and e-participation that contributed to the human development index in the EU states in 2010-2022. In the longitudinal data analysis, we apply fixed and random estimators to see the most critical determinants of the human development index. In the second part, we cluster the 27 EU countries in four clusters by Ward’s hierarchical algorithm. The hierarchical clustering emphasised that there is still a digital divide among EU countries. The digital divide occurs because of the lack of Internet access of the population from marginalised communities of European countries, resulting in socio-economic disparities. Therefore, some EU states should have initiatives to bridge the gap to digital technologies. The research results are essential for those governments coordinating the policies and the entire process of integrating information technologies and dedicated e-government and e-participation applications in central and local administration.

Wasted GDP in the USA

Whether or to what extent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) can measure human development is disputed. This article develops a notion of “wasted GDP”, with a case study on the performance of the USA based on analysis of Human Development Index (HDI) data. Like Herman Daly’s notion of ‘uneconomic growth’, the perspective of wasted GDP addresses the benefits and costs of economic growth and favors prioritization of policies that promote genuinely sustainable wellbeing. Over the last three decades, the USA has fallen behind several other highly developed countries in the HDI, despite solid economic growth. More than 20 countries, large and small, now outperform the USA on the Human Development Index, and 27 countries currently do better than the USA by nonincome HDI. 21 countries outperform the USA by this measure despite having a lower GDP per capita. The notion of “wasted GDP” implies that GDP is wasted if it does not support welfare. While a country´s welfare performance is measured by nonincome HDI, a comparison with better-performing countries that have a lower GDP indicates the share of GDP that is wasted from a human development perspective. The results, based on highly conservative estimates, show that the top 5 performers by lowest GDP per capita achieve better outcomes than the USA with an average GDP per capita that is 37.5% lower. All better performers achieve better outcomes with an average GDP per capita that is 26.9% lower. Without any wasted GDP, the annual US CO2 emissions could have been at least 1.268 million tonnes lower (all better performers estimate) and possibly as much as 1.767 million tonnes lower (top 5 performers estimate), accounting for 3.6–5.0% of global emissions. Similarly, the USA´s material footprint could have been between 2.625 million and 3.659 million tonnes lower, accounting for 2.7–3.8% of humanity´s global material footprint.

Pemberdayaan kelompok remaja berbasis budaya santri dalam optimalisasi peningkatan keterampilan kesehatan reproduksi remaja

Adolescence is one of the stages in human life. This stage is a crisis stage because it is a transitional stage from childhood to adulthood. According to the characteristics of their sexual development, adolescents generally have developed sexual behavior in the form of heterosexual relationships or dating. The way to minimize reproductive health problems in adolescents, juvenile delinquency and drug abuse is to directly involve the community in. These Adolescents need increased skills to overcome problems that occur in adolescents, especially reproductive health problems. The purpose of this service is to form youth groups that are active in efforts to deal with existing reproductive health problems. This program is carried out from the perspective of human or community development through empowerment. The empowerment method is carried out by referring to the existing strategy. Existing strategies refer to and are based on the culture that exists in Islamic boarding schools or junior high schools in an effort to optimize their reproductive health skills. This activity was carried out in a youth group of 30 teenagers who were students and students at the Miftahul Ulum Kalisat Jember Middle School. Activities carried out for 3 months to assist empowered groups. The results of forming groups with this empowerment found that there was an increase in the skills possessed by adolescents related to reproductive health problems before the empowerment group was formed, the skills were not good by 65%, it decreased after the empowerment group was formed, it became 28%, while good skills, by 35%, it increased to 72%. It is hoped that the group that has been formed can continue the empowerment efforts based on the pesantren culture by optimizing reproductive health skills so as to make teenagers more innovative, creative and also active.health skills so as to make teenagers more innovative, creative and also active.

Exploring the Impact of Ungrading on Student Learning

In most academic disciplines and schooling contexts, grading practices tend to vary by individual instructor preferences and habits. The field of Library and Information Science (LIS) is no different, with grading practices and norms varying even within a particular program. Despite these variations in assessment, a unifying factor across all fields is the understanding of learning itself, and there is a great deal known about how people learn, regardless of discipline/course/program (Bransford et al., 2000). Bringing insights from the Learning Sciences, this study aims to investigate the impact of ungrading on student learning. Specifically, we primarily employ a qualitative approach informed by a sociocultural perspective of learning and human development. Our in-progress research aims to understand how ungrading, which involves eliminating or minimizing grades in the assessment process, affects students' learning and their learning experiences in the context of two IT-focused asynchronous courses in a library and information science program master’s program in the southeast of the United States. To gather insights about students’ learning experiences, data collection methods will include semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and participant observation, with a particular focus on how students’ perceptions and experiences of ungrading impact how they learn. Pre- and post-hoc tests will be used to study learning mastery of course content. The findings will offer implications for research and practice related to how to best support LIS student learning, especially within the context of online, asynchronous, higher education courses.

Expatriates cross-cultural adjustment at the time of COVID-19: a Conservation of Resources (COR) perspective

ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic represents a potentially traumatic event with long-term consequences. From a human resource development (HRD) perspective, COVID-19 poses significant challenges, especially in the case of foreign workers. Although expatriation can be highly stressful, an adequate level of adjustment can promote an experience of growth and development. Drawing from the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, this study investigates the relationship between COVID-19 related trauma and the level of cross-cultural adjustment (CCA) in a sample of 170 Italian short-term expatriates. Specifically, we hypothesise a moderated mediation model in which COVID-19-related posttraumatic stress is associated with a lower level of CCA both directly and indirectly through a deterioration in psychological health. Moreover, we investigate the influence of organisations by analysing the moderating role of perceived organisational support (POS). As expected, the results supported both the direct and mediation hypothesis, while the link between COVID-19 related trauma and psychological health and the indirect effect showed different shapes for varying levels of POS. These findings can hopefully offer useful insights for promoting psychological health and positive experiences.

공무원의 공공봉사동기가 직무만족과 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향

The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of job satisfaction in the relationship between public service motivation and organizational citizenship behavior of public servants and to demonstrate the moderated mediation effect of job autonomy. To this end, a moderated mediation analysis was conducted with the data of the 「2021 Perception Survey on Public Life」announced by the Korea Institute of Public Administration to survey general public officials belonging to central administrative agencies and metropolitan governments. As a result of the study, first, it was confirmed that public service motivation had a positive effect on job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior. Second, job satisfaction was found to have a positive mediating effect between public service motivation and organizational citizenship behavior. Third, it was found that the mediating effect of job satisfaction between public service motivation and organizational citizenship behavior was moderated by job autonomy. Based on the research results, practical implications and future research suggestions to improve individuals’ affect and behaviors from the perspective of human resource development in the public sector were presented.

Finding triggers for training transfer: evidence from the National Human Resource Development Institute in Korea

IMPACT This article looks at public sector training from a human resource development (HRD) perspective. The authors discuss training to improve performance but also coaching trainees to transfer their expertise and training to others. Employees who transfer training were shown to be better performers. An HRD training programme that does not consider a trainee’s personal characteristics (for example capacity, motivation, interest, self-efficacy, and psychological state) cannot promote learning or transfer motivation. Practitioners who design HRD programmes for the public sector must consider individual differences and customized HRD programmes to facilitate knowledge transfer in the workplace.

Using the metaverse in training: lessons from real cases

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to explore the potential contribution of the metaverse to improve training and development as a function of human resource development (HRD) perspective. The authors explore the benefits and challenges of the metaverse and introduce cases of companies using the metaverse in training.Design/methodology/approachA narrative literature review was conducted to collect information on the metaverse in training. The authors reviewed peer- and non-peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, white papers, corporate websites and blogs and business magazines.FindingsA total of 75 articles were reviewed, including 14 cases, which were summarized to demonstrate how companies are applying metaverse technology in training contexts. For a more in-depth review, three cases were selected and summarized in terms of context, process and outcomes.Originality/valueThe metaverse is an emergent topic in HRD. It has the potential to revolutionize the functions of training and development through the combination of advanced technologies, including virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality. This article is the foundational attempt to provide a comprehensive summary of existing literature and case studies that highlight the potential of the metaverse in training within the context of HRD.

The Qur’an’s Speech on Vision and Mission from the Perspective of Human Development

تناولت هذه الدراسة حديث القرآن عن الرؤية والرسالة من منظور التنمية البشرية، من خلال سورة الفتح، وقد هدفت إلى مطالعة ما كتبه المفسرون، من خلال ربطه بالدراسات الحديثة، وبيان احتواء القرآن الكريم على كل مجال، معتمدة في ذلك على المنهج الإستقرائي التحليلي. وتطرقت الدراسة إلى جملة من المسائل منها: العلاقة بين العلوم الاجتماعية والقرآن في سوره وآياته. ومدى التلاؤم والتلازم بين العلوم الاجتماعية وبين سور القرآن الكريم وآياته، ودلالة ذلك التلاؤم. واشتملت الدراسة على مقدمة، وتمهيد، وثلاثة مباحث، تناولت فيها التعريف بسورة الفتح وبيَّنتْ فضلها وسبب نزولها وأهدافها ومحاورها، كما بيَّنتْ المراد بالرؤية وملامحها، ثم بينت المراد بالرسالة وملامحها من خلال سورة الفتح، والفرق بينها وبين الرؤية. وقد أسهمت في بيان توجيه القرآن إلى كل ما من شأنه تنمية القدرة البشرية على النظر للمستقبل والتخطيط والعمل له بالأدوات المتاحة. الكلمات المفتاحية: الرؤية، الرسالة، التنمية البشرية، القرآن الكريم، العلوم الاجتماعية Thesis title: Qur’an’s Speech about Vision and Mission from the Perspective of Human Development (Surah Al-Fath as an Example). This study dealt with the Qur’an’s speech about the vision and the mission from the perspective of human development, through Surah Al-Fath. It aimed at the perusal of what the commentators wrote, by linking it with modern studies, and showing that the Holy Qur’an is inclusive of all fields. In order to do this, the inductive, analytical method has been used. The study attempts the following: -The relationship between social sciences and Qur’an in its surahs and verses -The extent of compatibility and correlation between the social sciences and the surahs and verses of the Holy Qur’an and the significance of that compatibility. The study included an introduction, a preface, and three sections, in which I dealt with the definition of Surah Al-Fath and clarified its merits, the reason for its revelation, its objectives, and its frameworks, as well as the meaning of the vision and its features, then clarified the meaning of the message and its features through Surah Al-Fath and the difference between it and the vision. The study also attempted to highlight the Quranic guidance towards everything that would develop the human capacity to look into the future, plan, and work for it with the available resources. Controversial debates about workforce nationalisation: Perspectives from the Qatari higher education industry

ABSTRACT Workforce nationalisation in the Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) countries is a crucial challenge for their development plans. The current study explores controversial debates about workforce nationalisation to understand the existing threats from the views of less examined key stakeholders, namely, educators and senior students. The study argues that the identified obstacles relate not only to policy flaws but also to the education – employability gap, phantom employment, and detrimental social and community perceptions. Given its exploratory nature, the study adopts a qualitative approach and uses 28 semi-structured interviews to identify critical obstacles to effective workforce nationalisation from human development, legal development, and socio-cultural perspectives. The findings contribute to the literature on GCC workforce nationalisation by unpacking educators’ and senior students’ views.

Exploring Empathy in The Human Development Perspective and Its Practical Implications Based on The Islamic Foundations

This study aims to figure out the concept of empathy based on human development perspective and find its practical implication in the Islamic teaching, stated in its fundamental foundations, the Quran and hadiths. The exploration of the issue is based on the purpose to analyze the nature of empathy in human development and to provide a source regarding its implication based on Islamic view. Since the values are presumably derived from humanistic psychology (general knowledge), this study also explores the concept that is linked to the value in Islamic traditions. Descriptive qualitative research using a library study is employed to explore both concepts together with a content analysis for its data representation. The finding shows empathy is primed since infancy and continuously develops following the maturity of each stage of life. They develop similar emotion and process of it but different ways in showing their empathetic behaviors. Connecting to the implication in the Islamic teaching, there are 16 points elaborating the concept of empathy; five from the Quran and 11 from hadiths. Most of them are described in various ways of teaching but still closely relate to human social interaction. The result of this study reveals that both psychology and Islam are similar in defining empathy as a universal value in human life which drives people to the ability of understanding others’ feeling and being compassionate on it.

Fraud Behavior in Perspective Human Resource Development

Purpose: This study aims at finding out how the perspective of human resource development is in understanding and interpreting fraud behavior based on the informants' awareness of the state civil apparatus. Theoretical framework: Fraud behavior that will be investigated by researchers is fraud behavior which is the lowest or minor violation in the Human Resources and Human Resources Development Agency, but as a result that is not handled and resolved then the violation increases to moderate and high or severe which can threaten or provide opportunities for the country's civil apparatus likely to be dishonorably discharged. This means that prevention and opportunities to overcome them are not found holistically and comprehensively. For this reason, using the perspective of human resource development to be studied is expected to contribute, especially for the state civil apparatus to focus on developing themselves. Because when a person focuses on developing himself then cheating behavior will not be done because the concerned focus on developing himself because he already knows his potential. Design/methodology/approach: This research uses a phenomenological qualitative research method. Findings: The results of this study indicate that the perpetrators of fraud interpret fraud behavior as an expression of disappointment and dissatisfaction and consider this as something humanist under pressure because it is triggered by the dilemmatic conditions they face. In this case, the perspective of human resource development has three main components, namely the economic, psychological and system dimensions which are based on the ethics of human resource development as a complement to the three components. Research, Practical & Social implications: The researcher elaborates and adds the perspective of developing human resources with fraudulent behavior as an effort to prevent this fraudulent behavior from occurring. Originality/value: The researcher adds that integrity is an additional table leg as the implementation of fraudulent behavior.
