In the late 1976, Commodore, a well-known pocket calculator manufacturer, carried on an extra-ordinary vertical integration process. After having taken control of MOS Technology (the forerunners of the 6500 microprocessor family which is presently the best seller) and of keyboard, tape-recorder, TV monitor, etc. makers thery were able to control the whole process of mass-volume microcomputer fabrication. Very soon after that, the announcement of the PET computer completely upset the personal computer market. Its name showed its home computer vocation in in its creators' minds, but it may have other fields of application.
