Elongated ferromagnetic amorphous nanoparticles, with an average diameter of 25 Å, have been created by heavy ion irradiation of paramagnetic crystalline YCo2 thin films. As expected in such elongated particles, a perpendicular shape anisotropy is observed. The anisotropy field decreases as the fluences increases, as a result of the onset of dipolar interactions between the nanoparticles.
