Moderating Effect of CSR on Transformational Leadership and Organizational Performance of State Corporations in Kenya

The purpose of this study was to assess the associated relationships between transformational leadership, corporate social responsibility, and organizational performance. A total of 217 questionnaires were gathered from employees operating the various key state energy corporations in Kenya and then were analyzed using structural equation modelling (SEM). Findings - The results of studies show that moderating’s does not significantly affect the relationship between organizational performance, transformational leadership. The results of the data further show that first, transformational leadership did not have a positive influence on organizational performance. Second, transformational leadership did have a positive influence on corporate social responsibility. Third, corporate social responsibility did have a positive influence on organizational performance. These findings may aid future researchers in their quest in understanding the inherent relationships that lie between the variables in question and may provide a platform for managers in their efforts to improve organizational performance. EFFECT OF INVENTORY OPTIMIZATION ON PERFORMANCE OF STATE CORPORATIONS IN KENYA

Purpose: the general objective of was to determine role of inventory optimization on performance of state corporations in Kenya.Methodology: This research study adopted a descriptive research design approach targeting heads of procurement at the 187 state corporations. This method was preferred because it allowed an in-depth study of the subject. The study preferred this method because it allowed an in-depth study of the subject. To gather data, structured questionnaire will be used to collect data from 187 respondents. The research focused on primary data that was collected from questionnaires distributed to the target groups. This study collected both qualitative and quantitative data. After data collection the data was edited and coded in readiness for analysis by the researcher. The qualitative data collected was subjected to content analysis. On the other hand, the study used descriptive and inferential statistics to analyze the quantitative data. This study utilized the SPSS version 23 software to perform correlation and regression analysis on the collected data. The analyzed data was presented using statistical and graphical techniquesResults: R square value of 0.768 means that 76.8% of the corresponding variation in performance of state corporations in Kenya can be explained or predicted by (safety stock management, inventory control techniques, information technology integration and demand and supply forecasting) which indicated that the model fitted the study data. The results of regression analysis revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between dependent variable and independent variable at (β = 0.761), p=0.000 <0.05).Conclusion: The findings of the study indicated that; safety stock management, inventory control techniques, information technology integration and demand and supply forecasting have a positive relationship with performance of state corporationsPolicy recommendation: the study recommended that public institutions should embrace inventory optimization practices so as to improve their performance.

Influence of Leadership Competencies on Performance of State Corporations in Kenya

Start corporations needs to focuses on the critical aspect of leadership which involves Leadership competencies both in their present operations and in future. Leadership competencies determines the performance of the state corporation. The objective of the study was to examines the influence of leadership competencies on performance of state corporations in Kenya. The study used descriptive research design and adopted a question in the data collection. The target population were 34 CEOs and General managers of Kenya state corporations with Commercial objectives. Data analysis was the help of statistical package of social sciences. The study found out that a majority of the leadership competencies had a positive and a significant relationship with performance of state corporations in Kenya. But the impact varied in specific competencies. Social awareness leadership competency had the highest impact followed by self-awareness leadership competency and social skills leadership competency and self-management leadership competency. The study recommended that state corporations should conduct trainings on leadership competencies which will enhance a better financial performance of the state corporations.

Influence of Economic Factors as Determinants of Collective Bargaining Agreement on the Performance of State Corporations in Kenya

Collective bargaining agreements (CBA) are basic for any organization development and the nation’s monetary advancement. Industrial unrests have been known to create disturbances at the work place and sometimes affect the entire operations thereby suppressing or stopping productivity. The industrial actions seem unending since most of their solutions are temporary. CBA are known to be useful in minimizing or ending industrial unrests. The study adopted descriptive survey since it sought to ascertain respondent’s perceptions on the determinants of collective bargaining agreement in a structured manner. The objective populace of this investigation incorporated each of the 187 state companies in Kenya as of 27th April 2015. The unit of investigation was all the State Corporations in Kenya while the unit of perception was the Heads of Human Resources in every enterprise. The investigation utilized an example of 95 state organizations and gathered essential information utilizing a self-managed survey. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics comprising of mean, standard deviations, frequency distribution, percentages, factor analysis, correlation analysis as well as regression analysis. The study established that economic factors had a significant and positive influence on the performance of state corporations in Kenya. The study concluded that as a result of economic factors, performance of the corporations was affected. The study recommended that organizational leaders should embrace employee involvement and lead by example to promote employee performance.

After data collection, quantitative data was coded using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0. Data was analyzed through descriptive statistical methods such as means, standard deviation, frequencies and percentage. Inferential analyses was used in relation to correlation analysis and regression analysis to test the relationship between the four explanatory variables and the explained variable.Results: The response rate of the study was 82%. The findings of the study indicated that administration strategy, monitoring and evaluation, stakeholder management and conflict management have a positive relationship with performance of state corporations in Kenya.Conclusion: Based on the study findings, the study concludes that performance of state corporations can be improved by administration strategy, monitoring and evaluation, stakeholder management and conflict management. First, in regard to administration strategy, the regression coefficients of the study show that it has a significant influence on performance of state corporations.Policy recommendation: the study recommended that public institutions should embrace contract management practices so as to improve performance and further researches should to be carried out in other public institutions to find out if the same results can be obtained.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to establish whether strategic procurement management has contributed to the performance of state corporations in Kenya.Methodology: The study employed a descriptive research design; the researcher preferred this method because it allowed an in-depth study of the subject. The target population was all the 187 heads of procurement of the state corporations in Kenya. From the four strata, a sample of 127 was selected using simple random sampling. Semi-structured questionnaires were administered to collect qualitative and quantitative data. Once collected, data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Quantitative data was analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The qualitative data generated was analyzed by use of Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.Results: In regard to inventory management system, the regression coefficients of the study show that it has a significant influence of 0.561 on performance of state corporations. Second in regard to strategic sourcing, the regression coefficients of the study show that it has a significant influence of 0.198 on performance of state corporations. With regard to supply base leveraging, the regression coefficients of the study show that it has a significant influence of 0.112 on performance of state corporations. Lastly, in regard to the fourth objective, the regression coefficients of the study show that it has a significant influence of 0.019 on performance of state corporations.Conclusion: Based on the findings, the study concluded that supply base leveraging, inventory management system, e-procurement and strategic sourcing have a positive relationship with performance of the state corporations.Policy Recommendation: The study recommended that public institutions should embrace strategic procurement management so as to improve performance and further researches should to be carried out in other public institutions to find out if the same results can be obtained.

Descriptive statistics were used aided by Statistical Packages for Social Sciences version 24 to compute percentages of respondents’ answers. Inferential statistics using linear regression and correlation analysis were applied to assist examining relationship between the research variables. The results were presented using tables and graphs.Results: The findings revealed that supplier competence explained 44.1 % of the total variations in performance of state corporations in Kenya. Further, the results indicated that the overall model was statistically significant as supported by a p value of 0.000. This was supported by an F statistic of 111.904 and the reported p value (0.000) which was less than the conventional probability of 0.05 significance level. In addition, the findings show that there is a positive and significant relationship between supplier competence and performance of state corporations in Kenya as supported by a p value of 0.000 and a beta coefficient of (0.903). This implies that an increase in supplier competence by 1 unit would increase the performance of state corporations by 0.903units.Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: Based on the findings, the study recommended that suppliers should develop competent technical abilities so as to provide high quality products or services. Some of the technical dimensions that suppliers should develop competence in include; compliance with quantity, compliance with due date, compliance with packaging standard, production planning systems of suppliers, and maintenance activities of suppliers, plant layout and material. It’s also recommended that state corporations in Kenya should check frequently if supplier organisation is abreast with the newer information technology developments as technology is very dynamic and changes regularly as the technology that was used in the past is not the one we using now and it will not be the one we will use tomorrow.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of pro activeness on performance of state corporations in Kenya.Methodology: The study adopted an explanatory research design. The population of the research consists of the 187 state corporations in Kenya as at 2013. The unit of analysis was the state corporation. A purposive sample of 55 commercial state corporations was included in the study. The study used primary data gathered using questionnaires.Results: Results indicated that pro-activeness is a key determinant of firm performance for commercial state corporations in Kenya.Policy recommendation: The study recommended that state corporation steps up to promote pro-activeness among its employees.

INFLUENCE OF INNOVATIVENESS ON PERFORMANCE OF STATE CORPORATIONS IN KENYA

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of innovativeness on performance of state corporations in Kenya.Methodology: The study adopted an explanatory research design. The population of the research consists of the 187 state corporations in Kenya as at 2013. The unit of analysis was the state corporation. A purposive sample of 55 commercial state corporations was included in the study. The study used primary data gathered using questionnaires.Results: Results indicated that innovativeness is a key determinant of firm performance for commercial state corporations in Kenya.Policy recommendation: The study recommends that firms can increase the innovative capability of their firms by paying more attention towards learning orientation and entrepreneur orientation to improve performance. The investment in learning based capabilities and developing of entrepreneurial instinct to exploit opportunities plays a key role in the maintenance of innovativeness.

INFLUENCE OF CORPORATE ENTREPRENEURSHIP ON PERFORMANCE OF STATE CORPORATIONS IN KENYA

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of corporate entrepreneurship on performance of state corporations in Kenya.Methodology: The study adopted an explanatory research design. The population of the research consists of the 187 state corporations in Kenya as at 2013. The unit of analysis was the state corporation. A purposive sample of 55 commercial state corporations was included in the study. The study used primary data gathered using questionnaires. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used in the analysis of data. Reliability and validity tests were conducted to determine the internal consistencies of the variables under investigation. The data was analyzed by use of descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics produced frequencies, trends, means and percentages while inferential statistics produced regression and correlation results which showed the causal relationship among the variables. Results were presented on frequency tables and charts.Results: The study findings indicated that there was improved firm performance which was linked to corporate entrepreneurship. Results showed that companies initiated actions to which competitors responded to, the firms had a tendency to be ahead of other competitors in introducing novel idea or products and the companies strived in identifying new markets to sale products. Results indicated that risk taking, innovativeness, competitive aggressiveness and organizational factors were key determinants of firm performance for commercial state corporations in Kenya. The study findings also indicated that the companies had a strong tendency to increase the market share by reducing competitors through competitive marketing strategies, the companies spent substantial amount of financial resources in sales promotion and the companies actively searched for significant opportunities to improve market share.Policy recommendation: The study recommends to the management of firms that corporate entrepreneurship should be pursued as a competitive and performance improvement strategy by all firms regardless of size. This is because corporate entrepreneurship influences firm performance positively. For corporate entrepreneurship to thrive, firms need to put in place an environment with support systems, structures and resources that encourage employees to behave entrepreneurially. The management should therefore ensure that they engage all the employees as they embrace corporate entrepreneurship to ensure that all staffs are working towards achieving the same objective and company goal. The study is a justification of the fact that an organization with competitive innovativeness skills has a deep understanding of the business enterprises which catapults their growth to a large extent. The study recommends that the management should use technology in controlling the production cost while maintaining competitive prices as it results in continued profitability of a firm and therefore growth. Managers should be efficient time managers with a control on the firm cost of operation to help provide a working schedule and competitive prices which fit the client needs.

Effect of Conflict Management Strategies on the Relationship between Corporate Governance and Organizational Performance in State Corporations in Kenya

This study seeks to explore the influence of corporate governance on organizational performance of state corporations moderated by Board Conflict management Strategies in Kenya. A survey design was used to arrive at the expected outcomes in this study. Data was collected from 375 respondents with a response rate of 82.4%. Descriptive and inferential statistics were computed using statistical package of social sciences. Linear regression model was used to determine the relationship between corporate governance and organizational performance. The study revealed that board conflict management strategies are key factor in resolving conflict within the board and in the State Corporation. Once a conflict is resolved, the study found that organization performance changes by 7%. The researcher recommends application of Arbitration, Negotiation and Mediation strategies in resolving a conflict in the state corporation for the effective and efficient service delivery.

Decision making failures in Kenyan Parastatal Boardrooms has more to do with independence of mind and competences as well as behaviors of directors sitting around the boardroom tables. This includes how they work together, their degree of transparency and accountability as decision-making groups and the team production culture in task performance. This study seeks to explore the influence of corporate governance on organizational performance of state corporations in Kenya. A survey design was used to arrive at the expected outcomes in this study. Out of a population of 187 State Corporation, a sample size of 125 was considered with 375 respondents. Data was collected using questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistics were computed using statistical package of social sciences. Linear regression model was used to determine the relationship between corporate governance and organizational performance. The study revealed that the Board Strategic Involvement, board CEO-Chair Collaboration and Board Members knowledge & skills respectively are statistically significant (P-value=0.000). This implies that the three variables together influence organization performance of state corporations and account for 68% variation on performance. Board Leadership and Board Team production Culture (together) were not statistically significant at 5% level.
