Abstract A single-phase induction motor (SPIM) is one of the most widely used types of electric motors for applications that require small to medium power even his features don’t look very efficient energy parameters point of view. This motor runs on single-phase AC power, a real advantage for residential and light industrial applications and coupled with a DC permanent machine can emphasize its behavior in some specific situations. Starting and running performance of single-phase induction motor depend on running torque requirements of the load. Some statements about power factor and efficiency will be done, also.

Speed Sensorless Direct Rotor Field-Oriented Control of Single-Phase Induction Motor Using Extended Kalman Filter

Nowadays, Field-Oriented Control (FOC) strategies broadly used as a vector based controller for Single-Phase Induction Motors (SPIMs). This paper is focused on Direct Rotor FOC (DRFOC) of SPIM. In the proposed technique, transformation matrices are applied in order to control the motor by converting the unbalanced SPIM equations to the balanced equations (in this paper the SPIM with two different stator windings is considered). Besides this control technique, a method for speed estimation of SPIM based on Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to achieve the higher performance of SPIM drive system is presented. Comparison of six steady-state models for single-phase induction motors

This study compares six different models to simulate the steady-state performance of single-phase induction motors. The different models were obtained from a basic model, based on the double-revolving-field theory, by adding modifications to include the iron losses and rotor deep bar effect. The parameters of the six models were adjusted to minimise the error between the experimental results and the results of each model. For each model, the global error was defined as an average of the current absolute errors and the active-power absolute errors. These errors were calculated in per-unit, in order to sum absolute errors associated with different physical magnitudes. The experimental results were obtained through laboratory tests, with four types of single-phase induction motors: split-phase, capacitor-start, permanent capacitor and capacitor-start/capacitor-run. The results indicate that the six models have different precision to represent the steady-state single-phase induction motor performance. The deep bar effect had a greater influence on the results than the inclusion of magnetic losses. The inclusion of different resistances for the representation of the core losses because of the forward field and the backward field did not significantly improve the error of the approximation.

단상 유도전동기의 전자식 기동장치 개발

본 논문에서는 단상 유도전동기의 전자식 기동장치 개발에 관해 연구하였다. 전자식 기동장치는 콘덴서 기동형 단상 유도전동기의 보조권선 회로에 장착된 원심력 스위치를 대체하기 위해 활용된다. 개발된 전자식 기동장치는 보조권선의 전압을 관측하여 전동기가 정격속도에 가까워지면 보조권선을 전원으로부터 개방하는 역할을 수행한다. 범용 단상 유도전동기에 사용되고 있는 원심력스위치는 기계식 접점을 사용하기 때문에 접점에서 불꽃이 발생하고 전동기의 수명과 신뢰성을 저감시키는 요인이 된다. 개발된 전자식 기동장치는 무접점 반도체 스위치인 트라이악을 적용함으로써 전동기의 신뢰성과 특성이 개선될 수 있으며, 저전압 및 반복실험 등의 다양한 실험을 통해 신뢰성을 검증하였다.

The transient and steady state performance of single-phase induction motor with two capacitors fed by matrix converter

In this study, a single‐phase induction motor with constant v/f, fed by matrix converter, is considered under various frequencies. The modeling of the motor, mechanical load for single phase induction motor and matrix converter have been obtained by using Simulink package program. The performance of the motor under various frequencies is determined. A single‐phase induction motor considered in this work has a running capacitor. The analysis and simulation results are presented.

Cross-Field Analysis of Capacitor Motor with Windings not in Quadrature, Extensions to 1- and 2- Phase Thereof

Equations to predict the performance of single-phase induction motor with windings not in quadrature are developed based on a concept of representing a winding by two mutually perpendicular windings, using the cross-field theory. Since the capacitor motor is more general than any other motor in the family of single-phase and even two-phase induction motors, emphasis is thereby placed upon its calculations. The adaptability of equations thus developed to other types of notors is also indicated. A systematic procedure to analyze an induction motor is also given by making use of the present equations. In order to show the influence of winding displacement, the results on a permanent -split capacitor motor are also tabulated.

Generalized Theory for the Starting Performance of Single-Phase Induction Motor with Asymmetrical Windings

An analysis is developed for the starting performance of single-phase induction motors having asymmetrical windings not in quadrature. Based on Morrill's double-revolving field concept, the analysis leads to an equivalent circuit which accounts satisfactorily for all the space harmonics including those arising from irregular winding distribution. All the parameters for the equivalent circuit can be calculated from the design details.

The apparent-impedance method of calculating single-phase-motor performance

In the past several years there have been offered a number of calculation methods to be used in connection with predetermining the performance of single-phase induction motors. While such methods are usually based upon either the cross field or the revolving field theory, they differ from each other according to individual preferences. In the present paper there is proposed a method which seems to be convenient and simple, and which, because of symmetry, involves a minimum of charts in carrying out the necessary calculations. The method is proposed because it has been used in one design department for a number of years and found to be very satisfactory as a practical method.
