Soret and dufour impacts on radiative power-law fluid flow via continuously stretchable surface with varying viscosity and thermal conductivity

The intricate dynamics of mixed convective thermic and species transport in a power-law flowing fluid through a continuously stretched surface are investigated. The uniqueness of this study lies in the consideration of fluid variable thermic conductivity and viscosity, which introduces a higher degree of realism into the analysis. The transformation of similarity is used to transform the fundamental governing equations, and after that, the set of equations is processed numerically utilizing a non-similarity local approach. Furthermore, the effects of Soret and Dufour represent the cross-diffusion phenomena, accounting for the energy exchange with the surroundings. These factors collectively influence the stretching surface’s gradient velocity, affecting the thermal and species concentration rates. The findings offer a comprehensive understanding of these complex interactions, paving the way for optimizing thermic and species transport processes in various industrial applications. This study, therefore, holds significant potential for enhancing efficiency and performance in relevant industrial sectors. The main terms are the combinations of Dufour and Soret numbers that significantly impact the flow rate profile and mass transfer field. The coupled study of the nonlinear velocity, energy distribution and chemical mixture variance made the study more impactful in practicality. Skin friction variation shows limited impact with variations in the Soret number. The enhanced thermal gradient results in improved non-similarity parameters, yet it demonstrates a decrease with an increase in variable thermal diffusivity. There is a decrease in the temperature gradient as the buoyancy term reduces, while an increase is observed with changes in the Prandtl number. Similarly, the Nusselt number experiences a comparable impact due to changes in the Soret number.

Government Spending and Industrial Sector Performance in Algeria: Using the ARDL Approach

The study aimed to investigate the impact of government spending on Algeria's industrial sector during the period from 1995 to 2022, with a focus on its effect on the dependent variable. To achieve this, competitive industrial performance was used as an indicator to measure the sector's performance. Additionally, independent variables such as inflation, international oil prices, GDP, and the growth of non-hydrocarbon exports were analysed. The study employed the Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to conduct the economic analysis, considering the slow time lags of these variables. The study concluded that there was a positive short-term relationship between government spending and competitive industrial performance in the first year. However, it turned into an inverse relationship in the following year and became insignificant by the third year. In the long term, the study found a significant positive impact of government spending on competitive industrial performance. Additionally, the study identified a significant positive relationship between oil prices and competitive industrial performance, while both inflation and non-hydrocarbon export growth had a significant inverse relationship with competitive industrial performance. The study also found no significant relationship between GDP and competitive industrial performance.

Industrial Sector Performance and Labour Force Participation in Nigeria: A Gender Perspective

The literature on the role of industrialization in labour force participation in Nigeria is quite scanty. Besides, there is significant disparity between male and female labour force participation rates in the country. To this end, this study investigated the impact of industrial sector performance on labour force participation in Nigeria. The total industrial sector output was disaggregated into the outputs of the various components of the Nigerian industrial sector namely; manufacturing, mining and quarrying, utility and construction sectors. Total labour force participation rate was equally disaggregated into male and female labour force participation rates. Annual time-series data for the period 1981 to 2022 were used for the study. The Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) unit root test, Johansen cointegration test, error correction model (ECM), and Granger causality test were the econometric techniques used in analysing the data. The findings from the study revealed that manufacturing sector, and mining and quarrying sector outputs have significant positive impact on male labour force participation rate; construction sector output has insignificant positive impact on male labour force participation rate while utility sector output has insignificant negative impact on male labour force participation rate. On the other hand, manufacturing sector, and mining and quarrying sector outputs have significant negative impact on female labour participation rate while utility and construction sectors’ outputs have insignificant positive impact on female labour force participation rate. The main conclusion from the study is that while the total industrial sector performance largely encourages male labour force participation, it largely discourages female labour force participation in Nigeria

Balancing profit and planet: The effect of corporate tax rates on environmental quality and innovation in Asian Countries

In contemporary literature, extensive research has focused on the influence of environmental taxation on the environmental performance of industrial sectors. However, it is still uncommon in the existing literature how corporate statutory tax rate (CTR) affects environmental performance. Therefore, this study aims to empirically investigate the relationship between CTR and environmental quality (ENQ) as well as environmental innovation (EIN). To conduct this analysis, we utilized 19 years of financial data spanning from 2001 to 2019 across all 48 Asian economies. Our research employed both panel quantile regression (PQR) and system GMM models for the regression analysis. The empirical findings reveal that the corporate statutory tax rate has a positive impact on CO2 emissions, leading to deterioration of the environmental quality, while simultaneously exerting a negative influence on environmental innovation, inhibiting green innovation. These effects of the CTR on ENQ and EIN remained consistent even when controlling for factors such as economic growth, foreign capital, financial development, and environmental taxation. These findings have significant policy implications, suggesting the need for a reevaluation of current tax policies and the introduction of tax rebates for companies striving to enhance their environmental sustainability. This study contributes to the literature by shedding light on the adverse consequences of high taxation on the environmental performance of businesses.

City-level green growth accounting: Evidence from China's thirteen urban agglomerations

Cities play a pivotal role in achieving 'Carbon Peak' and 'Carbon Neutrality' objectives through the implementation of strategies aimed at mitigating environmental risks. While the environmental impacts of industrial production activities have been widely examined, the nuances of their internal structures remain obscure. This study delves into the industrial sector across the 'thirteen urban agglomerations (TUAs)' in mainland China, covering the years 2006–2016, by developing a comprehensive (source-specific and variable-specific) decomposition framework for Malmquist productivity index. The framework is utilized to discern whether efficiency changes or technological advancements drive productivity growth, considering input/output variables such as capital and labor. Findings show that the average annual environmental productivity gain during the examined period was 2.6 %, suggesting a general enhancement in productivity within TUAs' industrial sectors. A detailed breakdown of productivity changes indicates that a combined contribution of 1.8 % to environmental productivity growth stemmed from energy use and pollutant variables, with emissions of industrial sulfur dioxide being the most significant at 0.9 %. Conversely, the 'catch-up effect,' or environmental efficiency change, was negative (−0.2 %), indicating the TUAs' inability to emulate the productivity levels of more advanced areas. Industrial energy use and capital inputs were the primary contributors to this negative trend, each accounting for a −0.2 % impact. The results underscore the importance of facilitating technology transfers from more developed to less advanced regions, especially regarding renewable energy and capital investment, to bolster environmental performance and productivity in the TUAs' industrial sectors.

Climate change is an issue that is being widely discussed internationally today. The aim of the research is to examine the effectiveness of carbon tax implementation and explain comprehensive results. This research method uses a systematic literature review of research conducted in the last 10 years. The search for the effectiveness of carbon tax as climate change mitigation then synthesizes the results of empirical studies that have been conducted. The researcher found that there are 3 things that should be of concern to the government; economic performance, industrial sector performance and social welfare. Carbon tax certainly has an effect on a country's economy, as carbon tax is basically imposed directly on products or services that cause emissions. many companies are burdened by the carbon tax because it will change the management of the company to use renewable energy. the price of products from the industry will also increase because the carbon tax is imposed directly on products that cause emissions. Welfare should be considered in the implementation of carbon tax by the government, as the policy will certainly have a negative effect on social welfare. The researcher found 3 things that should be the main consideration in planning and implementing the carbon tax policy itself, first is the macroeconomy, the industrial sector that contributes to social and macroeconomic and social welfare.

Effects of energy consumption on human development and industrial sector performance in selected Sub-Saharan Africa and OECD countries: comparative analysis

ABSTRACT The objectives of this study are to implicitly investigate the relationship that exist between energy consumption (renewable and non-renewable energy) and human development (with the Human Development Index as proxy); and energy consumption and industrial sector performance (with industrial output as proxy) in selected sub-Saharan Africa and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. Four groups of models were specified and estimated using Panel data for 21 countries according to income criteria from 1990 to 2022. These data were analyzed using Panel Ordinary Least Square (OLS) before which they were filtered with the use of Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) unit root test while the Johansen cointegration test was used to justify the long-run relationship among all included variables. The findings of this study revealed that energy consumption was positively related and statistically significant in explaining changes in human development and industrial sector performance in the selected sub-Saharan Africa and the OECD countries. However, changes in Human Development Index (HDI) were not statistically significant in explaining changes inindustrial sector performance in both regions. The results of the estimated models revealed a three-way directional causality among the selected variables. Additionally, it was established that a significant gap exist in human development, energy consumption and industrial sector performance, in favour of the selected OECD countries. Furthermore, it was also established that energy consumption and industrial output are potent determinants of human development in the selected OECD and sub-Saharan African Countries.

Pengaruh Employee Retention dan Stress Kerja Terhadap Kinerja Karyawan PT. Multistrada Arah Sarana

This research aims to see the differences in the results of the influence of employee retention and work stress on employee performance in various organizations and industrial sectors. In this study, quantitative methods were used to examine employee retention and work stress that affect employee performance at PT Multistrada Arah Sarana. The population in this study were employees of PT Multistrada, while the sample taken was 86 respondents who were randomly selected using accidental sampling. In this study, data analysis used multiple regression method den R square. This study concludes that employee retention has a positive effect on employee performance, and work stress is proven to have a negative impact on employee performance. R square or the coefficient of determination in Table 8 produces a value of 0.376. This figure implies that the independent variable has an impact of 37.6% on the dependent variable, with the remaining 62.4% being influenced by other factors.

Industrialization and Employment Generation in Nigeria: An Empirical Analysis<b></b>

This study examined the impact of industrialization on employment creation, taking evidence from the Nigerian economy and using annual data covering the period of 1990 to 2022. The specific objectives were to determine the causal relationship between industrialization and employment creation in Nigeria and to examine the impact of industrialization on employment creation in Nigeria. To draw empirical evidence, the econometric methods of autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) with Error Correction Mechanism (ECM) and the Granger causality test were employed as the analytical techniques. The results of the ARDL and ECM reveal that a short-run and long-run relationship exists between industrial sector output and employment creation (proxied by the unemployment rate) in Nigeria. With the establishment of a long-run relationship and the aid of the ARDL bounds test for cointegration, the long-run and short-run estimates were estimated. The findings of the study reveal that industrial sector performance has a negative and significant impact on the unemployment rate in Nigeria. In other words, it has a positive and significant impact on employment creation in Nigeria. Therefore, the study, among other requisite recommendations, suggests that the Nigerian authority prioritize the growth and improvement of the industrial sector through the provision of basic infrastructure such as transport networks, energy systems, and communication technologies, among others.

Industrial Sector Performance, Human Capital Development and Economic Growth in Nigeria

This study examines the relationship between industrial sector performance (ISP), human capital development (HCD), and economicgrowth (EG) in Nigeria. Data used in this study was obtained from World Development Indicators (WDI) and Penn World from 1981 to 2020 on GDP/capita, human capital index, and industrial output. The augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test was applied to obtain the stationarity conditions of the variables before performing the autoregressive distributed lag test to determine the short- and long-run relationships among the variables. The study reveals no long-run relationship among the variables; however, a negligible impact on human capital and industrial output in the short term exists, highlighting the need for government intervention. This is thefirst study to examine the tripartite relationship between industrial sector performance, human capital development, and economic growth in the Nigerian context, providing insight into the dynamics of the relationships in developing countries.

Sustainable Lean Six-sigma: A new framework for improve sustainable manufacturing performance

Sustainable Manufacturing is essential in supporting a more sustainable production process in the current era. However, continuous improvement research that utilizes Manufacturing Sustainability Index (MSI) scores in improving Sustainable Manufacturing performance is still limited. Therefore, this study aims to propose a new framework for evaluating Manufacturing Sustainability based on lean Six Sigma and Sustainable Manufacturing concepts using Sustainable Value Stream Mapping (Sus-VSM). We call this new framework Sustainable Lean Six-sigma (SLSS) based on the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) approach. The SIPOC diagram and the Delphi method are used in the Define stage to select relevant indicators. Then, the selected indicators were evaluated in the Measure stage, and the Manufacturing Sustainability Index (MSI) was calculated. At the Analyze stage, the Sus-VSM is analyzed. At the Improve stage, improvement proposals are made using Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and a future Sus-VSM is created. Finally, in the Control stage, check sheets are created to control the implementation of the proposed improvements. In the DMAIC process, Sus-VSM is used as a production flow mapping using a traffic light system to map indicators in each process and MSI values on the production line. A case study was also conducted on the Agro-Food Industry. The results showed that the proposed framework could be implemented in the company and successfully improved the Manufacturing Sustainability Index (MSI) score from 88.78% to 93.80%. The implication of this research shows the potential of using the SLSS framework in improving manufacturing sustainability performance in industrial sectors.

This article discusses the analysis of potential defense industry policy development with the Total Quality Management (TQM) approach. The defense industry plays an important role in maintaining the security and sovereignty of a country. In the face of increasingly complex and dynamic security challenges, the product quality and competitiveness of the defense industry must be continuously improved. TQM has proven effective in improving performance and quality in various industrial sectors. This approach emphasizes continuous quality improvement and involves all members of the organization in process and product improvement. In the context of the defense industry, TQM is becoming increasingly relevant to achieve industrial independence and improve competitiveness in the global market. This research uses literature study, data analysis, and case studies of defense industries in several countries. This data is used to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in developing the defense industry with a TQM approach. The results of this analysis are expected to contribute to policy makers and defense industry management in formulating strategies to improve the independence, efficiency and overall quality of the defense industry. By exploring the potential for developing defense industry policies with a TQM approach, the country can strengthen its defense capabilities, increase the contribution of the defense industry in supporting national security, and face the future with greater confidence and resilience. By exploring the potential of integrating the TQM approach into defense industry policies, this research strives to fortify a nation's defense capabilities. It also seeks to amplify the defense industry's role in bolstering national security. Consequently, this comprehensive analysis offers a blueprint for a future that promises increased self-assuredness and resilience, enabling the country to navigate evolving security challenges with confidence and adeptness.

Adoption of renewable energy sources and sustainable performance in palestinian industrial and commercial sectors with governmental role as a moderator: An explanatory approach

Renewable energy has attained enormous attention in recent years due to the exhaustion of many energy resources, and the pollution caused by fossil fuels. However, the adoption of renewable energy sources (RESs) is a complicated process influenced by multifarious factors. This study aims to investigate factors influencing the adoption of RESs by the Palestinian industrial and commercial sectors and their effect of this adoption on sustainable performance, besides examining if the government plays a role in moderating the relationship between the adoption of RESs and such sustainable performance. To this end, a quantitative method was used to collect data through questionnaires from 100 top managers in the Palestinian commercial and industrial sectors. The data analysis was conducted using the Smart PLS software to test the formulated hypotheses. The findings support the positive relationship between the adoption of RESs and sustainable performance. There is also a positive relationship between the adoption of RESs and the government's role. However, the relationship between the government's role and sustainable performance is not established, but the government's role is found to be a moderator between adopting RESs and sustainable performance.

The present study aims to identify the factors that drive renewable energy consumption in the MENA region. For this aim, the study employed panel data that consist of seven selected countries namely Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia from 2000 to 2021. The current study performed a Panel ARDL and causality test to determine the long-run effect of the variables and the direction of these effects. With that in mind, the study unveiled that energy importation and national income have a detrimental impact on renewable energy consumption while indicators such as inflation, government expenditure, economic growth, and industrial sector performance uncovered to rise the renewable energy consumption in MENA countries. Interestingly, the trade coefficient revealed no remarkable impact on the dependent variable. The results will offer insights to the MENA nations and the countries struggling to promote renewable energy consumption by identifying the factors that need to be prompted in order to increase the consumption of renewable energy and dissociate from non-renewable energy without compromising to achieve sustainable economic development. The paper also contributes to the literature by establishing a link between macroeconomic and microeconomic factors on energy consumption.

Skin‐Inspired Nanofluid‐Filled Surfaces with Tunable Icephobic, Photothermal, and Energy Absorption Properties

AbstractIce buildup can significantly and negatively impact system performance in various industrial sectors, and has remained a persistent challenge for decades. Many compliant materials exhibit excellent de‐icing performance but are easily eroded by impacts from supercooled water droplets, sand, dust, and debris. A composite panel inspired by animal skin, consisting of a facesheet protecting a nanofluid layer beneath, which exhibits durable anti‐icing and tunable photothermal properties is proposed. The viscous liquid layer beneath the facesheet increases flexural rigidity, preventing large deflections and increasing deformation resistance, which alters ice's adhesion to the surface. The non‐uniform fluid pressure exerted by the viscous nanofluid‐filled composite panels facilitates ice detachment, resulting in ice adhesion strengths as low as τice ≈ 10 kPa. Further, by altering the fluid properties, different additional functionalities can be endowed to the system. Incorporating fumed silica in a fluid‐filled composite panel results in rheopectic behavior, and this doubles their impact resistance when the shear thickening properties are properly tuned. Additionally, the combination of a transparent facesheet and a solar light absorbent nanofluid allows for tunable photothermal properties, further enhancing the anti‐icing performance of the system. This durable and tunable nanofluid‐filled composite panel shows great promise as a multifunctional de‐icing material.

Effect of Education and Health Infrastructure on Industrial Sector Performance: Empirical Evidence from Nigerian Economy

The purpose of this study is to empirically examine the impact of education and health infrastructure on industrial sector performance in Nigeria. In that vein, an annual time series dataset was generated from Central Bank Statistical Bulletin and World Development Indicators (WDI) for the period, 1980 to 2022. The study employed Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model to analyse the parameters. Ex-post facto research design was also adopted. The descriptive results suggest that all the variables have positive mean. The implication of the positive mean is that all the variables in the model recorded positive average growth rate during the period under review. The inferential analysis began with estimation of unit roots tests and the results revealed that variables were stationary at different orders of integration. Furthermore, the cointegration test shows that there is an evidence of cointegration among the variables. Based on the cointegration result, this study applied ARDL approach to generate the estimated short-run and long-run results. Based on the short-run estimate, this study reveals that there is positive but statistically significant relationship between education infrastructure and industrial sector performance. There is negative but statistically insignificant relationship between health infrastructure and industrial sector performance, while there is also a negative but statistically insignificant relationship between communication infrastructure and industrial sector performance.

Human Capital Development and Industrial Sector Performance in Pre And Post Covid-19 Era: The Australian Experience

The importance of the ravaging pandemic on human development and industrial sector performance cannot be overemphasized. This is because an improved and quality industrial output is a function of quality human resources. This study explicitly examined the effects of the ravaging pandemic on human development and industrial sector performance in Australia during pre and post COVID-19 era. Human development was measured with the Human Development Index (HDI), Inequality Adjusted HDI (IHDI), Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and the Gender Development Index (GDI) while the Earnings before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) and the Industry Value Added (IVA) were used to capture the trend in Australia’s industrial sector performance during pre and post COVID-19 era. Data were sourced from Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the United Nations Development (UNDP) Report and World Bank indicators. The study findings revealed, amongst others, that human quality was better off before the pandemic than after it and this was explicitly reflected in the country’s industrial output, as a better performance was recorded before the pandemic than after it. Australia, like China, needs more aggressive net zero CO2 emission policies including those relating human development to industrial output. Aggressive export diversification would help her economy recover faster from the adverse effects of the ravaging pandemic through effective and efficient utilization of her renewable energy sources.

COVID-19, firm performance, and the value relevance of earnings

In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, there has been a growing interest in investigating how stock markets behave during times of uncertainty and crisis. This is because it has been shown that stock prices seem to disconnect from fundamentals during moments of extreme uncertainty. Using earnings and returns data from publicly traded corporations for the twelve months beginning January 1, 2020, we assessed the performance of major industrial sectors during COVID-19. We also investigated the concurrent earnings/returns relation to discover whether earnings changes convey useful information during times of high uncertainty. Following prior literature along similar lines, we used firm-level earnings and returns data and estimated cross-sectional regressions to examine the earnings/returns relation. We found considerable variation in the earnings and returns data across and within the industrial sectors. Our results mostly showed a positive relationship between accounting income and concurrent stock returns, implying that accounting earnings numbers were value relevant during the pandemic. Positive earnings news (earnings increases) seemed to generate a greater market response than negative earnings news (earnings drops), leading to a shift in the overall stock market's outlook from negative to positive in the second half of 2020. These findings will help the decision-making of investors, creditors, policymakers, financial analysts, and other stakeholder groups.

Industrial Development and Economic Growth Nexus in Nigeria

Purpose. Industrial development is crucial in converting all resources to humanity’s use and benefits. Economists observe that the development and utilisation of the industrial sector are essential in a country’s economic growth. Disaggregating the industrial sector into various components, this paper empirically analyses the performance of the industrial sector on economic growth in Nigeria over the 1970-2015 period. Hence, to evaluate the relationship between industrial development and economic growth in Nigeria. Design/Methodology. The paper adopted autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) as the technique of data analysis. Findings and implications. The results further revealed that the coefficients of all industrial subsectors, such as manufacturing, solid minerals and crude petroleum and gas, have positive and statistically significant influences on economic growth in both the short and long run. Among the industrial subsectors, the crude petroleum and gas sector appears to be the highest driver of Nigerian economic growth compared to other industrial subsectors, showing that the Nigerian economy is still far from diversified. Limitations. Limitation emanates from the problem of missing data from the source of data on the variable labour. However, effort has been made to overcome this challenge by applying a two-year moving average gap for periods of missing data. This method conforms to the rational expectation hypothesis (Muth, 1961). Originality. The development of the industrial sector of any economy can be measured by the contribution of various components (Isiksal & Chimezie, 2016). It is expected that as an economy becomes transformed, the share of industrialisation should be increasing (UNECA, 2011). The examination of industrial sector performance involves its sectoral components.
