The Nexus of Quality Management and Construction Organisations' Performance in Urban Ghana: The Moderating Effect of Information Technology Integration

Effective quality management strategies improve and sustain organisations' competitiveness in the current business environment by incorporating information technology. The primary aim of this research is to investigate the moderating influence of information technology on the connection between quality management strategies and the performance of construction firms in Accra, Ghana. The study utilized a sample of 255 construction firms in the Accra- Metropolis. The data collected underwent analysis using inferential and descriptive statistics. The results indicated a favorable impact of quality management strategies on the performance of construction companies. Furthermore, a positive correlation was found between the integration of information technology (IT) and the performance of construction firms. Nevertheless, there was an insignificant correlation of the moderator (information technology integration) on the link between quality management strategies and the performance of construction companies. This could be attributed to the absence of skills and expertise, as well as the absence of a modernized information technology system that integrates communication and quality management processes in construction organizations in Ghana. Subsequent studies should concentrate on the barriers to integrating IT into quality management processes in construction firms in developing nations.

Exploring the Impact of Quantitative Easing Policy on the Business Performance of Construction Companies with the Debt Ratio as a Moderator

During the 2008 financial crisis, central banks (such as the Fed) adopted a quantitative easing (QE) policy to stimulate their countries’ economies and overcome severe economic and financial recessions. However, apart from stimulating the economy by issuing a substantial amount of currency to purchase long-term bonds and suppress interest rates, QE policy also contributed to a boom in the real estate and construction sectors. Therefore, this study employs data envelopment analysis to measure the business performance (BP) of construction companies, and explore the impact of QE policy on the BP of construction companies, between 2004 and 2015, using hierarchical regression. We also examine the moderating role of the debt ratio on the relationship. Focused on publicly listed construction companies in Taiwan, this research reveals three encouraging findings. Firstly, QE policy indeed enhanced the BP of Taiwanese construction companies. Secondly, performance improvements in construction companies due to QE policy show a time-diminishing trend, suggesting the importance of seizing the initial policy benefits of QE implementation. Lastly, construction companies with appropriate financial leverage may exhibit better BP. These findings can provide valuable insights for relevant government entities and decision-makers in the industry for policy and investment decisions.

Comparative Analysis of the Financial Performance of State-Owned and Private Construction Companies in Indonesia Due to the COVID-19 Disaster

In a competitive business era, company performance is a crucial factor that affects the sustainability and growth of an organization. There are various methods in measuring the performance of a company. One of them is by conducting a comparative analysis of financial statements to provide an overview and evaluate the financial conditions that occur in a particular year and predict future financial conditions. In 2020, the COVID-19 situation has a major impact on companies engaged in the infrastructure sector, including (Badan Usaha Milik Negara) BUMN in the field of building and construction and private construction companies. The purpose of this study is to determine the performance of construction companies in Indonesia, both private and state-owned enterprises with large business qualifications due to the COVID-19 disaster. The study was conducted based on the financial statements of each of these companies. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that the performance of BUMN and private construction companies is still feeling the impact of COVID-19. The performance of private construction companies in 2021 has the ability to pay long-term debt, generate profits, manage capital to run the company's operations better, while BUMN construction companies have the ability to pay short-term debt, as well as manage receivables, inventory and assets.

PERAN SOSIAL MEDIA MARKETING DALAM MENINGKATKAN MARKETING PERFORMANCE MELALUI PEMANFAATAN DIGITAL MARKETING CAPABILITIES PADA PERUSAHAAN KONSTRUKSI DI PROPINSI JAWA TENGAH

The aim of this research is to examine the role of social media marketing in creating a significant relationship between digital marketing capabilities and marketing performance in construction companies on the island of Java. The research method was carried out quantitatively by collecting data by distributing questionnaires via electronic forms and printed formats which were delivered directly to respondents where the respondents were directors who worked for contractor companies in Central Java province. The sampling technique was carried out purposively based on the criteria of directors who had worked for a minimum of five years at contractor companies in Central Java province. Based on these criteria, there are 225 company directors who have met these criteria. The data was analyzed using AMOS 22 statistical software. The research results showed that digital marketing capabilities had a positive and significant effect on social media marketing. Digital marketing capabilities do not have a positive and significant effect on marketing performance, and social media marketing has a positive and significant effect on marketing performance.

The Influence of Strategic Maneuverability Practices on The Financial Performance of Bumiputera Contractors

Objective – There are limited studies on the impact of strategic maneuverability on the financial performance of construction companies, especially concerning Bumiputera contractors in Malaysia. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of strategic maneuverability practices on the financial performance of Bumiputera contractors in Selangor. Methodology – A questionnaire survey was distributed to 50 Bumiputera contractors in Selangor. The data was analyzed using SmartPLS 4 as part of the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Findings – The analysis of the feedback from the 50 respondents revealed a strong and positive relationship between the implementation of strategic maneuverability practices and the financial performance of Bumiputera contractors. Therefore, it is imperative for companies to possess strategic maneuverability in order to navigate the ever-changing business landscape of the construction industry effectively. Novelty – The findings of this study will encourage Bumiputera contractors to adopt strategic maneuverability practices to survive and remain competitive in the challenging environment of the construction industry. THE INFLUENCE OF INVESTMENT DECISIONS, FREE CASH FLOW, AND DEBT POLICY ON THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES

The construction industry plays a pivotal role in any country's economy, driven by the increasing demand for infrastructure, housing, and facilities during periods of rapid economic growth. Efficient financial management is paramount for construction companies to ensure sustainability and growth. This study explores the impact of investment decisions, free cash flow, and debt policy on the financial performance of construction companies. Investment decisions significantly affect financial performance as they influence the allocation of resources, with an emphasis on the Price Earning Ratio (PER) to gauge market expectations and future prospects. Free cash flow, representing the cash available after operational and investment costs, positively and significantly affects financial performance. Debt policy, as a crucial part of capital structure decisions, also significantly influences financial performance. The study uses quantitative methods and concludes that these factors collectively explain 62.9% of the variation in financial performance. Understanding these dynamics can aid construction companies, investors, regulators, and other stakeholders in optimizing financial strategies and achieving sustainable growth in the competitive construction industry.

Stakeholder Engagement and Operational Performance of Construction Firms in Rivers State, Nigeria

This paper investigates the impact of stakeholder engagement and operational performance of construction firms in Rivers State, Nigeria. To further understand operational performance, three measures including on-time delivery, project quality and cost minimization where used. This study was conducted in a non-contrived setting and the quasi-experimental research design method was adopted. A questionnaire was distributed to 121 study elements made up of managers and supervisors of eight selected construction firms with operational/regional offices in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The retrieved and valid copies of the questionnaire were analyzed with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings indicated that operational performance of construction companies in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria as measured by on-time delivery, project quality and cost minimization is highly dependent on how engaged stakeholders of such a project are. Such engagement leads to high project quality, timely delivery of projects as well as cost reduction as stakeholders would have better understanding of the firm’s operations. It is then concluded that stakeholder engagement is key to project success for construction companies operating in the Niger Delta, specifically Rivers State. Hence, managers and supervisors must deliberately ensure that project stakeholders properly engaged all through the various stages of the project.

Financial Performance of Construction Companies during COVID-19 Pandemic

The global construction industries were significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in substantial consequences for businesses in this sector. The operational activities of construction companies in the Philippines were significantly impacted by the imposed restrictions. The objective of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the profitability of three construction companies in the Philippines. Through the application of horizontal comparative analysis and ANOVA, the researchers have determined that there exists a statistically significant positive correlation between the profitability ratios of the three construction companies. Their Gross Profit Margin and Return on Assets (ROA) showed positive acceptable ratios during the pandemic.

Strategic Maneuverability Practices and Its Impact on Bumiputera Contractors' Financial Performance in Selangor – A Pilot Study

Strategic maneuverability is a rapidly evolving field of research especially when it is connected to company performance. Earlier research on strategic flexibility began with Gotcher (1977) who believed that long-term planning requires flexibility. In this regard, a company's freedom of movement, its environment, and the quality of strategic control within the company contribute to its flexibility. Some scholars have proposed that in order to deal with strategic disruptions, companies must be strategically agile, able to change their course of action, and maintain competitive advantage. This includes identifying and sensing major opportunities and threats, as well as responding to unexpected environmental changes. However, there are very few studies on the impact of strategic maneuverability toward the financial performance of construction companies, especially among Bumiputera contractors in Malaysia. Financial Analysis of the Construction Company's Product Quality Management System

This scientific study considers the issues of financial analysis of the construction company's products quality management system. The functioning of this system is of great importance in the activities of a construction company, since the quality of products is one of the main evaluation criteria of its activities; therefore, the analysis of the financial component of this system is of primary importance in terms of evaluating the final quality of construction products. The relevance of the subject matter is determined by the need for a thorough study of the features of the functioning of construction enterprises in terms of the financial component of the activity of the quality management system of manufactured products in order to create effective control tools and improve various aspects of their activities. The purpose of this study is to identify the main aspects that affect the financial performance of construction companies in terms of trends in improving the quality of products. The leading approach in this study is a combination of a system analysis of the features of the functioning of enterprises in the construction sector with an analytical study of the financial component of the activities of enterprises in the construction sector in the context of the functioning of the product quality management system of these companies. The main results obtained in the course of this study should be considered an assessment of the economic efficiency of the activities of the construction organisations selected as an example of quality management systems in Almaty, as well as a statement of differences in the activities of the construction companies selected for the analysis of quality management systems. The applied value of this study is determined by the possibility of practical application of the results obtained in the course of it to develop optimal criteria for assessing the quality of the functioning of the quality management system of a construction organisation in the context of the financial aspect of its activities.

The Effect of Risk Management Practices on Project Performance: A Case Study of the Libyan Construction Industry

Purpose: The general aim of the study was to investigate the implementation of risk management in the construction industry in Libya. Theoretical framework: The role of risk management in project management in the construction industry in Libya is described in this paper. The study involved more than three hundred construction companies located in Tripoli and Benghazi as these are two main cities in Libya where construction was most active and involved big projects and large investment. Design/methodology/approach: Questionnaires which were designed based on cluster sampling were sent to respondents i.e., basically the company managers and 250 replies were obtained. Structured equation modelling was used to analysis the information by Smart-PLS program. The risk management processes defined by identification, assessment and monitoring which contributed to the project success was also related to the financial risk. Findings: The study found that risk management practices had substantial and favourable effects on the success of the project's execution. Further the awareness of quality management in terms of risks was most encouraging. Research, Practical & Social implications: The current findings of this research have shown that most studies focus on the effect of risk management practices as strong tool to improve the project performance. A productivity survey might give a better overview of risk management at other sectors as it concerns the actual output of the construction companies. Originality/value: The systematic literature review approach was hardly found in study of risk management and project performance. At the same time, the exploratory method was applied to synthesize previous studies on risk management and project performance in construction companies.

The Influence of Human Resources Aspects on Worker Performance in Construction Companies in Manokwari Regency

Manokwari Regency continues to experience progress in construction development carried out by the government, where those who identify changes in construction are the construction of office buildings, hotels, shopping centers and other infrastructure. An important factor in supporting the successful development of the construction industry is the available resources, such as models, people, equipment, methods, materials used and information. Human resources are the main factor that determines the success or success of a construction company. The purpose of this study was conducted to find out how the influence of human resource aspects on improving the performance of workers in construction companies, and what aspects most influence the performance of workers in construction companies. Based on the results of the analysis that has been carried out, that the results of the multiple correlation analysis show that aspects of human resources such as competence, motivation, loyalty, and work discipline have a strong and very strong influence on the performance of workers in construction companies. These aspects are competence of 0.675, motivation of 0.799, loyalty of 0.717, and work discipline of 0.959, and these four aspects contribute 69.5% to the total influence of the construction company's performance.

IMPACT OF PROJECT PLANNING PRACTICES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF CONSTRUCTION FIRMS IN UGANDA: A CASE STUDY OF MASAKA CITY, UGANDA

Construction is a complex activity as it contains several inputs to achieve the desired objective. Efficient project plan practices have a significant impact on the performance of construction companies. Several companies engage in construction activity with little or no planning. This study investigated project planning practices among the construction firms in Masaka City, Uganda with a view to understanding their performances. Qualitative and quantitative techniques in a cross-sectional approach were used in this study. Data was collected from professionals working in 20 construction firms in the city making a total of 175 participants. Using questionnaires and interview guides. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the aid of SPSS software. Three project planning practices were considered: Safety and Resource Planning (SRP), Equipment and Material Usage Planning (EMU), and Work Scheduled and Time Planning. The results showed that none of the companies fully complied with the requirement planning practices, which led to material wastage and delays in project delivery. The regression model formulated has a coefficient of determination of 77.45%, indicating that the model has the capacity to predict about 78% of the performances of construction firms. The study concluded that the poor performance of the firms is influenced by the lack of planning practices. It is therefore recommended that strict conformance and enforcement of the project management principles throughout the lifecycle of the project should be given more attention.

Modelling the Impact of Environmental Factors on the Performance of Construction Companies through the Lens of Institutional Pressures

While investigating how environmental factors affect the performance of construction enterprises has remained a topical issue in the literature, many concerns about these factors, particularly in developing nations, are still unresolved. This study empirically examines specific environmental drivers affecting construction firms' performance and establishes the role of institutional pressures on construction firms' performance outcomes. Primary data were gathered from a sample of 197 respondents working in Syria's construction industry and were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). When considering the impact of some environmental factors (economic environment, human capital, leadership, communication culture, socio-cultural environment, and political environment) on construction firm performance, the findings revealed that institutional pressures (coercive, mimetic, and normative) play a mediating role. However, the mediating influence of institutional pressures on the technological environment and performance of construction firms was not significant, thus indicating the need for more research. The findings of this study make a substantial addition to the current discussion about the most important environmental factors impacting construction firm performance. This study adds to the current debate about the causes of poor performance in construction firms by assisting managers in recognising the impact of the mentioned factors above on a firm's performance.

Optimizing the Performance of Construction Companies using Goal Programming Model

The construction industry is the driver to the social and economic development of a country. However, the construction industry is capital intensive and resource-reliance with high risk. These characteristics of the construction industry show high vulnerability to financial uncertainties. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the financial performance of the construction companies in Malaysia with goal programming (GP) model. This paper found that ECONBHD, GADANG, and MELATI have high liabilities while GADANG and MELATI have low profits. The powerful GP model has highlighted that the construction companies have high liquidity and solvency risks and could face problems to sustain their operations. This study could help the companies to determine the decremental and incremental values to reach the benchmark values for better financial performance.

Internal Audit Practices and Financial Performance of Construction Companies in Nigeria

This study was carried out with the aim to examine internal audit practices and financial performance of construction companies in Nigeria. In order to actualize the objectives of the study, various literature and theoretical issues was discussed. The instrument used for the purpose of this research was gathered through primary source. The researcher administered a total of two hundred (200) questionnaires to respondents, out of which one hundred and eighty-eight (188) was retrieved and was used for the presentation and analyses. The hypotheses were tested using Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression technique. The findings from analysis revealed among other things that there is a positive and significant relationship between size of the internal audit, experience of the internal audit, qualification of the internal audit and Financial Performance. The study also revealed that there is a positive and insignificant relationship between independence of internal audit and Financial Performance. In line with the findings, we recommend that the internal auditor should have maximum independence from the industry they work in. The internal audit activities must be positioned in such a way that it may obtain cooperation from industry that is being audited that have free, unrestricted access to all functions, records, property and personnel including those charged with governance.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRANSFORMATIONAL, TRANSACTIONAL LEADERSHIP STYLES AND EMPLOYEES PERFORMANCE IN CONSTRUCTION SECTOR, UAE

Employee performance can be defined as how workers behave in the workplace and how well they perform the job duties that obligated to them. In reality, employee performance in construction companies in UAE was poor due to poor leadership style. Many of the employees have been leaving one construction company to another company for the sake of proper reward. The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between transformational leadership and transactional leadership styles on employee performance in the construction sector, UAE. By using quantitative approach, simple random sampling technique was applied to randomly to collect data from 46 construction companies with 331 employees completed the survey. The findings indicated 77% of the variance in employees’ performance (F=1131.050, p<0.000). With this result, the hypothesis was supported. The result also found that leadership styles strongly associated with employees’ performance at construction companies in UAE. Some of the studies on leadership styles were majorly investigated in western countries and few of it was found in UAE. It is crucial to expand the literature in conducting more research in UAE and developing countries. In short, this research helped to clarify in more inclusive global picture of the leadership styles influencing employee performance.

Evaluating the Impact of Computerized Accounting Information System on the Economic Performance of Construction Companies in Iraq

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the three contexts of Computerized Accounting Information System (technological, organizational, and environmental) on construction companies’ economic performance. To achieve this aim, a survey was conducted on 208 construction companies that adopted CAIS with 152 valid responses received, representing a 73% rate of useable responses. The data analysis was carried out adopting the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. The results indicate that the technological and organizational context of CAIS had a positive significant effect on construction companies’ economic performance while the environmental context had a negative significant effect on construction companies’ economic performance. This research’s findings are significant to the practice of adopting CAIS technology on construction projects in developing countries since it provides the likely effect of the various contexts of CAIS on the economic performance of construction companies which will be beneficial for planning and decision-making to the construction companies’ management. Theoretically, the findings of this study will enrich existing literature by providing empirical proof of the variable effect of the various CAIS contexts on construction companies’ economic performance in Iraq which has not been considered in the existing literature. This study is limited to construction companies in Iraq.

Intellectual Capital and Performance: A Case Study of Construction Companies

Intellectual Capital Management is a key element for a company's development and value creation in achieving sustainable competitive advantage. Since intellectual capital is unique in the marketplace, companies retaining and transferring internally generated knowledge can face the external environment with more agility. Due to the importance of civil construction in the Portuguese economy, this exploratory research uses a case study methodology applied to construction companies in Portugal. The findings of this research evidenced that intellectual capital management influences the performance of construction companies. By recognising the importance of intellectual capital management and how it influences the performance of companies, it is possible to trigger a set of investments in human capital that will become structural capital through the transfer of their competencies and, finally, relational capital. Therefore, higher performances are achieved without losing the knowledge acquired over the years. This research can help to understand the importance of investing in intellectual capital management competencies in civil construction companies to leverage their competitive strategic development.
