The infusion of nanotechnology into cosmetic formulations marks a transformative shift in beauty science. Although Raymond Reed originally used the word "cosmeceutical," Dr. Albert Kligman popularised the idea in the late 1970s. Cosmetic Nano Wonders are redefining skincare by leveraging nanomaterials to enhance the stability, delivery, and efficacy of active ingredients. The paradigm shift holds promise for overcoming longstanding challenges in traditional cosmetic formulations. This article aims to explore and showcase the revolutionary impact of nanotechnology on the cosmetic industry. Focusing on key nanocarriers, such as liposomes and nanoparticles, our objective is to illuminate how nanotechnology elevates the performance of beauty products, providing advanced solutions for skincare concerns. This revolution promotes sustainability through green synthesis techniques and enables more accurate and effective therapies for a variety of skin issues, including acne and ageing that raises the bar for safety and innovation in the cosmetics business by enhancing product performance and environmental impact. Conducting a thorough literature review, we analyze recent scientific studies and industry reports to unveil the mechanisms and applications of nanotechnology in cosmetics. Special attention is given to the role of nanocarriers in stability enhancement, targeted delivery, and controlled release, unraveling the methods that drive the transformative potential of Cosmetic Nano Wonders. The database sources are Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Google Patents. The examination of recent research underscores the tangible benefits of nanotechnology in cosmetics. Cosmetic Nano Wonders demonstrate superior stability, enhanced penetration into skin layers, and controlled release mechanisms, showcasing their potential to revolutionize beauty science and address longstanding challenges in skincare. Cosmetic Nano Wonders represent a groundbreaking shift in beauty science, offering unprecedented possibilities for formulators and consumers. As nanotechnology continues to reshape cosmetic formulations, the future holds the promise of safer, more effective, and personalized skincare solutions, ushering in a new era in beauty science.

Exploring the Interaction of Incentives and Benefits on New Product Performance

This study investigates how to optimize compensation strategies by balancing incentives and benefits to achieve superior new product performance. Grounded in resource orchestration theory, this research proposes that firms should properly configure incentives and benefits for successful new product development. Survey data were collected from China to test the theoretical model. The results reveal that while incentives positively correlate with subjective new product performance, they are negatively associated with objective new product performance, despite a positive relationship between subjective and objective new product outcomes. Moreover, we uncover a significant negative interaction between incentives and benefits on objective new product performance. This result indicates that firms can maximize the sales contribution of new product programs by designing compensation strategies with low incentives paired with high benefits.

Benchmark of estimated solar irradiance data at high latitude locations

Estimated solar irradiances from CAMS, PVGIS SARAH-2, Solargis, Meteonorm, PVGIS ERA5, and NASA POWER are benchmarked against measurements conducted at 34 ground stations in Norway at latitudes between 58 and 76°N. We find that the data products that mainly rely on high-resolution, geostationary satellite images, i.e., CAMS, PVGIS SARAH-2, and Solargis, have higher accuracy with lower relative Mean Absolute Error (rMAE) and relative Mean Bias Error. By dividing the stations in distinct categories, such as above 65°N, snow-affected and horizon-shaded, challenges with irradiance estimation that are common in Norway and at high latitudes in general are highlighted and discussed. The accuracy of the data products is dependent on latitude, and by excluding stations above 65°N, the median rMAE of the different data products improves 3.2 – 9.4 %abs compared to the median rMAE when including all stations, depending on data product. Similarly, by excluding snow-affected stations, the median rMAE improves 1.9 – 8.1 %abs, depending on data product. The improvement in rMAE by excluding snow-affected stations is partially related to the difficulty of separating snow on the ground from cloud cover in satellite images. This difficulty is illustrated by concrete examples of irradiance time series from clear sky days when the ground is covered in snow. Although the performance of the data products is dependent on the categorization of stations, i.e., latitude, snow conditions, and local topography, the relative performance between the products is maintained regardless of sub-division.

Supply Chain Channel Strategy and Marketing Performance of Agricultural Products Firms in Nigeria

Even with the expansion of the vendor network supply chain channel strategy research and the development of the nation's agricultural industry, there seems to be no empirical research on supply chain channel strategy as it relates to marketing performance of agricultural products’ firms. Particularly, it appears that there have not been studies on the relationship between supply chain channel strategy formulation within the agricultural industry in Nigeria. The lack of literature by scholars with respect to supply chain channel strategy in the agricultural industry to trigger innovations in channel techniques and strategies could properly be the root cause of ineffective marketing performance of agricultural products’ firms in terms of customer’s service, profitability and product availability. The researchers therefore sought to discuss this limitation, thereby bridging the acknowledged gap. Based on the objective of the study, a systematic survey was utilized to obtain information from 376 management staff of agricultural product enterprises, and three hypotheses were developed. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The results demonstrated a favorable and significant association between marketing success of agricultural product companies and channel management. It was concluded that if supply chain channel strategy is well implemented, there would be an increase in marketing performance as measured by client fulfillment, profitability and product availability. Considering the results, it was recommended that sales, supply chain and marketing managers should manage their supply chain channels by placing more emphasis on channel strategy.

ASSESSMENT OF GEOMETRIC DISTORTION OF CANTILEVERS PRINTED WITH DIFFERENT INTERNAL STRUCTURES AFTER DIFFERENT POST-PROCESSES

This study assesses the geometric distortion of cantilevers fabricated from stainless steel 316L with varying internal structures using Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology. The cantilevers were printed under identical conditions and subsequently post-processed with Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) and heat treatment. The geometric deviations were evaluated using a micrometer and a Coordinate-Measuring Machine (CMM). This research underscores the importance of internal structure selection and post-processing in enhancing the geometric accuracy and mechanical stability of 3D-printed slender structures from stainless steel. By demonstrating that internal geometries can significantly influence the end product's structural performance, the findings provide valuable insights for the design and engineering of Additive Manufactured (AM) components, particularly in applications that involve bending.

B-018 Design and Development of MASTM Diabetes Max Controls, Ready-to-Use Plastic Tube Format

Abstract Background The Thermo Scientific™ MAS™ Controls are assayed controls to monitor assay performance within clinical laboratory settings. The user can compare observed results of controls with their expected ranges as a means of assuring consistent performance of both reagent and instrument. The objective of developing MAS™ Ready-to-Use Tube Controls is to provide MAS™ controls in a new automation-friendly plastic tube format, as an alternative to the current glass vials. Diabetes Max Control is the first MAS™ product designed and developed in this ready-to-use format to be placed directly on the analyzer. The new format will increase efficiency and allow for on-board refrigerated storage, and it is expected to reduce material loss and contamination. It contains Hemoglobin A1c formulated in whole blood matrix to mimic patient specimens. In this presentation we summarize the Feasibility, Development, Verification, and Validation results of MAS™ Diabetes Max Controls. Methods The performance was assessed by conducting the following studies for MAS™ Diabetes Max Tube Controls. The analyte Hemoglobin A1c was measured in functional studies to evaluate and verify the product performance. Other studies were also designed and performed to assess the product usability. Results MAS™ Diabetes Max Control results demonstrated comparable performance and Fit/Form/Function criterion on specified platforms, particularly the TOSOH™ platform. All feasibility studies provided very promising results passing per protocol criterion. Design Verification and Validation studies ensured product integrity and passed specifications for proposed claims. Process Validation is in progress with data being collected for both Value Assignments and Real Time Stability. Conclusions MAS™ Diabetes Max Controls provided in ready-to-use tubes met the design specification criteria. We believe that MAS™ Diabetes Max Controls will contribute to the increased efficiency of core lab workflow by allowing the analyzer(s) to aspirate controls directly from the tube and allow for control storage in an on-board refrigeration unit.

Oil-based drilling cutting pyrolysis residues- phosphogypsum foamed ceramics: Basic properties, microsintering mechanism and heavy metals solidification

Oil-based drilling cutting pyrolysis residues(ODPR) and phosphogypsum(PG) are typical types of industrial solid waste in China, characterized by low utilization rate and high output. The large amount of untreated accumulation will release heavy metals(HMs) and other pollutants, posing risks to the environment. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a high value-added building material product that can reduce environmental hazards while improving utilization rate. Based on this background, this study uses ODPR and PG as raw materials to explore their potential applications in the field of foamed ceramics. Research has shown that different sintering processes have a significant impact on the appearance and performance of products. By adjusting the preparation process, foamed ceramic products with excellent performance can be prepared. When the sintering temperature is 925℃, the foaming agent dosage is 3 %, and the raw material ratio ODPR:PG:Borax=35:45:20, a foamed ceramic product with a porosity of 60.95 %, water absorption rate of 3.4 %, compressive strength of 4.8 MPa, thermal conductivity of 0.8016 W/(m·k), and acid and alkali resistance of 98.57 % and 99.44 % can be prepared. The product meets the relevant requirements of “Fired heat preservation brick and block (GB/T 26538)” and “ General Specification for porous ceramic products (GB/T 16533)”. The HMs content test showed that the Ni and Pb contents in the pre-sintered blanks were the highest, at 0.6308 mg/kg and 0.3182 mg/kg, respectively. However, after high-temperature calcination, the solidification rate of HMs could reach up to 98.93 %, and the leaching amount was significantly reduced. The three further evaluation methods indicate that HMs in the pre-sintered blanks and foamed ceramic products do not pose significant ecological risks. The research results provide a green inorganic insulation material in the field of solid waste control and building materials.

Intercomparisons of the Latest Precipitation Estimates from Satellite, Reanalysis, and Merged Products over Alaska

Abstract This study uses National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Stage IV (Stage IV) precipitation data over the state of Alaska to assess and cross compare precipitation estimates from the most recent versions of multiple precipitation products, including satellite-based passive microwave (PMW) [Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS)–F17, Microwave Humidity Sounder (MHS)–MetOp-B, MHS–NOAA-19, Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2), Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and Global Precipitation Measurement Microwave Imager (GMI) in V05 and V07], active microwave [AMW or radar; Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) dual-frequency precipitation radar (DPR) in V06 and V07], combined active and passive microwave (DPRGMI in V06 and V07), infrared [Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS)], reanalysis [fifth major global reanalysis produced by ECMWF (ERA5) and Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications, version 2 (MERRA-2), and satellite–gauge [Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) V1.3 and GPCP V3.2] products. PMW estimates are generally improved in V07 compared to V05 in terms of overall bias, pattern, and capturing precipitation extremes. DPR and DPRGMI show low skill in capturing different precipitation features. ERA5 and MERRA-2 show the highest agreement with Stage IV for all precipitation rate metrics. AIRS and GPCP capture the overall precipitation pattern and magnitude fairly well, performing better than the radar and comparable to the PMW V07 products, although the geographical maps suggest that they provide a relatively smoothed spatial distribution of mean precipitation rates. The outcomes of this study shed light on the performance of various precipitation products over Alaska (partly representing high-latitude regions) and can be useful to guide the development of multisensor products.

High Resolution (30 m) Burned Area Product Improves the Ability for Carbon Emission Estimation in Africa

AbstractFire significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. The current global burned area (BA) products mainly have coarse native spatial resolution, which leads to underestimation of global BA and carbon emissions from biomass burning. Performances of BA products in Africa from GABAM (30 m), MCD64A1 (500 m), GFED4s (0.25°), FireCCI51 (250 m), and GFED5 (0.25°) were compared. From 2014 to 2020, GFED5 detected the most BA, 1.58 times more than GABAM during the same period. GABAM detected 0.09 Mkm2 more burned area than FireCCI51 on average. From 2014 to 2016, GABAM detected an average of 2.99 Mkm2 of BA in Africa, which was 1.03 times more than GFED4s. From 2014 to 2021, the average African BA derived from GABAM was 2.89 Mkm2, 1.22 times more than MCD64A1. The increase in BA will inevitably lead to an increase in the estimation of carbon emissions from biomass burning. Based on GABAM products and GFED framework, we estimated the average vegetation burning carbon emissions in Africa from 2014 to 2021 to be 1113.25 Tg, which is higher than GFED4s' carbon emissions in the same time period. This shows that the use of high‐resolution (30 m) burned area products to estimate carbon emissions can effectively avoid the underestimation of overall fire carbon emissions.

Reprecipitation-mediated regulation on the surface architecture of uniform spray dried lactose microspheres

Lactose microspheres (LMs) are commonly used in the pharmaceutical field. Although the surface architecture of LMs directly correlates with the performance of the final products, surface manipulation remains challenging. In this study, uniform LMs were fabricated using template-assisted spray drying with polyethylene glycol 200 as the template. The influence of the solvent composition (methanol, ethanol, 1-butanol, and acetone, with and without added water) and post-treatment parameters (time and temperature) on the moisture content, particle morphology, surface architecture, and crystal polymorphism were investigated. The sample surfaces post-treated using methanol were covered with particulate crystals with a crystallinity of ∼88.3 %, whereas those treated using acetone were covered by coral-like crystals with a crystallinity of ∼80.6 %. This is attributed to the higher solubility of lactose in methanol than in acetone. Adding a small amount of water to the post-treatment solvent facilitated amorphous lactose reprecipitation, achieving a block-like crystal stacking surface with a more stable Lα∙H2O content (∼40.4 % w/w). Lα∙H2O enriched on the LM surfaces prevents water absorption during storage, thus maintaining their high dispersity, uniformity, and surface architecture. This study provides a promising strategy for tailoring the surface architecture of spherical crystalline lactose microspheres.

Added value of merging techniques in precipitation estimates relative to gauge-interpolation algorithms of varying complexity

Data-fusion techniques leverage the strengths of multisource precipitation data and can significantly enhance the accuracy of precipitation estimates. However, the extent to which these techniques improve precipitation estimates (i.e., added value) compared to interpolation algorithms and the factors driving this improvement remain unclear. To address these gaps, this study compared the performance of two merging techniques, i.e., double machine learning (DML) and geographically weighted regression (GWR), with multiple interpolation algorithms in estimating precipitation across China. The interpolation algorithms vary in complexity and include typical methods (IDW and Kriging), semi-physical methods (GIDS, DAYMET, and MicroMet), and climatologically aided interpolation (CAI). We quantified the added value of the merging techniques over these interpolation algorithms and investigated the driving factors using a data-driven approach. Results indicate that the merging techniques outperform all the interpolation algorithms, regardless of their complexity. The merging techniques provide greater added value in gauge-scarce regions (e.g., Northeast China) than in gauge-rich regions (e.g., Northwest China). The magnitude of the added value from merging techniques is significantly influenced by the choice of interpolation algorithms due to their varying performance. Additionally, our data-driven model reveals that factors such as the amount of precipitation, number of wet days, performance of precipitation products, and gauge density are key drivers that negatively affect the added value of merging techniques. This study highlights the importance of integrating multisource data to improve precipitation estimates, especially in regions with sparse gauges, rather than relying solely on gauge-only interpolation.

Identification of stable restorers and high-yielding hybrids using diverse sorghum male sterile cytoplasmic sources and established pollen parents under different water regimes

Sorghum hybrids demonstrated increased productivity and helped offset the decreasing cultivated areas, particularly in Asia. The diversity in cytoplasmic male sterility systems, stability of restorers and high yield of sorghum is an important factor for achieving food security and sustainability. In sorghum, hybrid production has been limited to A1 cytoplasmic source to date, primarily due to limited number of restorers on other cytoplasmic sources. This work aimed at filling this gap through diversifying and assessing the producibility and stability of cytoplasmic backgrounds across environments, evaluating the stability of restorers across cytoplasms and environments, and evaluating the performance of the hybrid F1 products under different water regimes across cropping seasons. The effects of genotypes and interactions between the genotypes and the tested environments were shown visually using GGE biplot, which also categorized the genotypes based on performance per se and stability. Analysis of variance revealed significant (P< 0.001) differences between genotypes, environments and their interaction components for all the plant characteristics studied. The various GGE biplot patterns revealed that the restorers G4 (IS 33844-5), G5 (M 35-1-19), G8 (ICSV 15014), and G10 (ICSR 13009) were stable across environments and cytoplasms. We observed the following order of superiority in cytoplasmic restoration and seed producibility, A2 >A1>A3 >A4. The A2 cytoplasm can therefore reliably offer seed producibility advantage to commercial seed producers. Furthermore, the which-won–where model for hybrid grain yield revealed specific adaptations of hybrid genotypes G143, G195 and G215 to first mega environment (E1 and E3), whereas G167, G110, and G112 were adapted to the second mega-environment (E2 and E4). With a GGE biplot goodness of fit of 70% the best possible yield- and stability-based ranking of hybrid genotypes was G143, G215, G189, G200, G69, G162, G119, G54, and G81. The newly uncovered hybrid products should therefore be considered for downstream testing stages and candidates for release and commercial cultivation. Clearly, this work resulted in novel findings particularly in terms of seed producibility, universal restorers across the 4 cytoplasms and environments, and superior and stable hybrid products, all of which are expected to add value to conventional and heterosis breeding in the process of sorghum cultivar development.

Transformation of iron-minerals from natural aquifer media by sulfate-reducing bacteria: Behavior, mechanism, and Cr(VI) removal

Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and iron minerals are widespread in subsurface environments, where their mediated Fe and S transformations are crucial for contaminant immobilization. However, the mechanism mediated by SRB to transform natural iron minerals into reduced iron–sulfur compounds and the contaminant removal capacity of the transformation products remain unclear. Herein, the mechanism of native SRB-mediated transformation of iron-minerals from natural aquifer media into biogenic ferrous sulfide (FeS) was revealed and the Cr(VI) removal performance of the transformation product was evaluated. The results showed that Fe2+ production, sulfate reduction, and sulfide production occurred sequentially (rather than simultaneously) in the liquid phase. This suggests new processes and mechanisms for iron-mineral transformation: first, iron minerals dissolve to produce Fe2+ under enzymatic action rather than sulfide reduction; then, the generated Fe2+ accelerates sulfate reduction by SRB, producing sulfide in large amounts; finally, sulfide combines rapidly with Fe2+ to produce FeS. Elevated temperatures markedly shortened the required transformation time to start: maximum Fe production occurred at 18–24 days, 6–12 days, and 0–6 days at 10 °C, 20 °C, and 35 °C, respectively. Ambient temperature strongly affected SRB community composition, with Desulfosporosinus dominant at 10 °C and 20 °C and Desulfotomaculales prevalent at 35 °C. Sequential extraction, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analyses confirmed FeS as the main transformation product, which exhibited a highly efficient Cr(VI) removal capacity. Extending transformation time or increasing transformation temperature enhanced the Cr(VI) removal capacity of the transformation product. In column experiments, in-situ stimulation of SRB growth in aquifer media is able to form FeS, the Cr(VI) removal capacity of FeS reached up to 90.1 mg(Cr(VI))/kg(media). These findings suggest that biostimulation of SRB to mediate the in-situ transformation of iron-minerals to FeS has great potential for remediation of contaminated groundwater.

An investigation of prototype development using 3D printer: A digital fabrication approach

Abstract Additive manufacturing (AM) is a widely used technique in several industries for rapid prototyping and layer-by-layer fabrication of a new product. The influence of printer settings and print quality is essential for the performance of products in a variety of applications. The popularity of manufacturing using 3D printing is growing rapidly. In view of this, an investigation is carried out on the 3D printing techniques, their applications, and prototype materials for complex mechanical parts such as an impeller. The present study thoroughly considers the fundamental techniques in 3D printing technology, materials, and recent advancements applied to the current application and accepted trends. The 3D printing technology is advantageous as it accepts a wide range of designs, allows customized manufacturing, minimizes waste, builds intricate structures, and creates prototypes rapidly. Layer height of 0.2 mm, speed of 90 mm/s, and infill density of 80% were determined as the optimal print settings considering time, material cost, and properties. Considering the flexural qualities, the optimized values of layer height, print speed, and infill density were 0.15 mm, 70 mm/s, and 50%, respectively. It was observed that the uniform elongation (UEL) and ultimate stress (UTS) of a component increase as the layer thickness increases for the considered layers.

Application of metal additive testing and thermal conductivity technology in optimizing product appearance design in intelligent manufacturing industry

Metal additive manufacturing technology has the advantages of rapid manufacturing and personalized production, but due to the complexity of the manufacturing process and differences in material characteristics, products made with metal additives often have appearance defects and process performance issues. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the application of metal additive detection technology in product appearance design and process performance optimization. This study proposes a comprehensive detection and optimization method that utilizes non-destructive testing techniques to comprehensively inspect metal components. By identifying and locating these issues, the quality status of the components can be accurately understood. Based on the test results, a series of appropriate optimization measures have been taken to improve the appearance and process performance of the product, adjust process parameters, improve the forming quality and surface smoothness of the components, thereby achieving better appearance effects. Metal additive testing technology can effectively detect and locate appearance defects in products, and by optimizing process parameters and material selection, it can significantly improve the appearance quality and process performance of products, providing support for improving the reliability and production efficiency of industrial manufacturing.

Enhanced fatigue SN curve generation for gear bending fatigue life prediction using multi-objective optimization algorithms

This study presents a comprehensive methodology for fatigue life prediction and SN curve generation in gear systems, integrating specimen and product-level testing, simulations, and multi-objective optimization. The approach addresses the discrepancy between specimen-based testing and actual product performance through a novel multi-fidelity framework. To solve the proposed multi-objective optimization problem, several optimization algorithms were compared and analyzed, demonstrating the effectiveness of each approach in balancing different objectives. A key innovation is the development of an empirical formulation-based surrogate model, enabling efficient optimization while significantly reducing computational demands. The methodology covers both specimen and product-level testing along with simulations, offering a holistic solution for accurate fatigue life prediction. Extensive validation through experiments and comparison with commercial software confirms the reliability and practical applicability of the method. This approach provides a sustainable and efficient solution for SN curve generation and fatigue life prediction in automotive gear train development, allowing for continuous improvement as new data becomes available. Its practicality and accuracy make it particularly valuable for early-stage design optimization and large-scale applications in the automotive industry.

Impact of Different Packaging Configurations on A Topical Cream Product

PurposeThe objective of this study was to investigate whether different dispensing processes can alter the physicochemical and structural (Q3) attributes of a topical cream product, and potentially alter its performance.MethodsAcyclovir cream, 5% (Zovirax®) is sold in the UK and other countries in a tube and a pump packaging configurations. The structural attributes of the cream dispensed from each packaging configuration were analyzed by optical microscopy, confocal Raman microscopy and cryo-scanning electron microscopy. Rheological behavior of the products was also evaluated. Product performance (rate and extent of skin delivery) was assessed by in vitro permeation tests (IVPT) using heat-separated human epidermis mounted in static vertical (Franz-type) diffusion cells.ResultsDifferences in Q3 attributes and IVPT profiles were observed with creams dispensed from the two packaging configurations, even though the product inside each packaging appeared to be the same in Q3 attributes. Visible globules were recognized in the sample dispensed from the pump, identified as dimethicone globules by confocal Raman microscopy. Differences in rheological behaviour could be attributed to these globules as products not dispensed through the pump, demonstrated a similar rheological behaviour. Further, IVPT confirmed a reduced rate and extent to delivery across human epidermis from the product dispensed through a pump.ConclusionsDifferent methods of dispensing topical semisolid products can result in metamorphosis and Q3 changes that may have the potential to alter the bioavailability of an active ingredient. These findings have potential implications for product developers and regulators, related to the manufacturing and comparative testing of reference standard and prospective generic products dispensed from different packaging configurations.

Design of novel bracket structure for falling film devolatilizer and numerical simulation of its film-forming property

The falling film devolatilizer is a new type of devolatilization equipment, which has the advantages of high film-forming efficiency and no mechanical transmission. In this study, a devolatilizer with an open falling film substrate was designed, and the film-forming performance and surface renewal performance of high viscosity fluids under the falling film structure were numerically simulated. The results indicate that the opening of the falling film substrate makes the liquid film thinner, which is beneficial for the stretching of the liquid film. The advantages of the falling film under low viscosity and high flow rate conditions are more significant. Simultaneously, four bracket structures were designed. Compared with the rectangular bracket, the renewal frequency of fan-shaped brackets can be increased by more than 20%, and the flow rate can be increased by about 10%. The improvement of the two can directly improve the falling film devolatilization performance, so as to improve the polymer polymerization degree and improve the product performance. Therefore, exploring the falling film support frame with high devolatilization performance provides a certain engineering practical significance for the design of devolatilization equipment.

Aspect based sentiment analysis of Twitter mobile phone reviews using LSTM and Convolutional Neural Network

The proliferation of online shopping has led to a surge in product reviews, providing valuable information to consumers. However, the overwhelming volume and subjective nature of these reviews make it difficult to assess product performance accurately. We propose a machine learning-based system that extracts sentiment from online reviews to address this challenge. Our system effectively identifies positive, negative, and neutral sentiments and classifies sentiment for specific product aspects. By offering concise and clear information, our system empowers consumers to make informed purchasing decisions and assists manufacturers in improving their products. Our proposed LSTMCNN model, trained on a dataset of 62,563 reviews, achieved impressive results with an accuracy of 95.84%, precision of 95.6% and recall of 95.8%. This significantly outperforms existing models, demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach. Moving forward, we aim to further enhance the accuracy of our system, track sentiment changes over time, and develop personalized product recommendations. These advancements will continue to increase the value and utility of online reviews in e-commerce.

The effect of repair and lifetime extension on the environmental performance of energy-using products. Application to electric water kettles

This study evaluates the environmental impacts of extending the lifetime of electric kettles through repair strategies by means of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. A total of 2640 scenarios were analysed, each considering six variables: material composition, usage intensity, year of failure, failure management, lifetime extension, and end-of-life (EoL) management. The results demonstrate that extending kettle lifetimes through repair can reduce the total environmental impact by up to 35 %, particularly in scenarios where low-energy use is combined with maximum lifetime extension. The use phase contributed the most to the environmental impact, accounting for 48–64 % of the total in most scenarios, driven primarily by energy consumption during kettle operation. In contrast, material composition and EoL management had a smaller effect, representing only 5–10 % of the impact. Repairs focused on lime descaling were the most effective, reducing the environmental burden by up to 20 %, while repairs involving component replacement were less impactful in this regard. These findings underscore the potential of repair strategies to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of household appliances. Policymakers should prioritise repairability in product design and promote consumer awareness to extend product lifetimes and achieve lower environmental impacts.
